Can we acknowledge the pianist who let the singer lead? He did his best to keep the tempo. Very good on both. And the little girl beaming up at her dad... precious.
This man is nothing short of a professional. Whether he makes money from his voice or not, there's no way he took the time to learn the Ave Maria with such perfection as a normal man. Absolutely beautiful performance.

Another thing, there are MANY great singers (not a high percentage when accounting for the population) who are not professionals and all into this hidden gems category. In churches all over the U.S. there are ridiculously good singers and instrumentalists who aren’t professionals. This guy might’ve sang this song in a high school recital or concert, or he might just do it for fun. But you’re right, most people don’t know the words, so maybe he is a professional or a vocal coach or something. Or maybe he is just trained

That's what a good pianist does, SD. When I play for a/the soloist, I always follow them. I can change much quicker and without much notice than a/the soloist.

Pianist doesnt really know it, he was sight reading, or he might be using a chord chart and just improvising, some of the chords were kind of in the ballpark but not really, lol! Because he wasn't that familiar with the piece, he wasn't really listening to his phrasing, and he was playing cautiously under tempo, which made the singer have to extend his breath longer than he needed to. Sounded more like the dad was following the pianist. Lol! Anyway, great voice. Good faking on the keys. He's probably more of a jazz pianist (?).....
No, you just sight read and play if you don’t know the piece by heart. There is no ‘following’ a vocalist. In the event the soloist elongates phrases (it happens if they’re feeling it!), the pianist will improvise. Solo instruments follow rhythm which follows bass which follows percussion. And in a symphony, for example, there is no following - you play with your section - if someone fucks up or just doesn’t fit, they’re usually given so many ‘gentle reminders’ before being asked to leave. But that is the purpose of and audition. Anyway, no one is ‘trying really hard to follow’ here bc ‘someone is just that fucking good’. They each consented to a role and played their roles wonderfully, done deal. You should think before you make idiotic comments about that which you do not know.

@@shiekahfan01 it's just a simpler term the common layman can understand. Do you think people who aren't interested in music will understand all of that? It's just a way to get everyone acquainted. That's like watching a video named "I Created a Program that Uses Neural Learning and C# to Accomplish So-and-So Task." The only people who are gonna understand is the niche community you're trying to appeal to. With a media company like GMA, it's a whole lot easier to keep things simple, even if it's a tad bit inaccurate. They cover many, many things, so appealing to such a niche community wouldn't be a good idea when they have so many other kinds of people they need to keep happy

Due to tons of overt and subliminal images and propaganda that we (especially in America) grow up with, one does not readily associate a football fan with someone that would appreciate opera. This is just another beautiful reminder to myself of the importance of the individual in life.
I ate lunch in that same hotel last fall. Two things- one, the restaurant (which he was right outside of) is amazing. And two, that resort is super expensive and if I’d heard his voice from the dining room, I would have assumed they’d hired someone to both sing and play. His amazing voice perfectly fits with the beautiful resort.
The building has great acoustics and his singing wonderful.

Rewatching this and I’m reminded of the very kind man who played the piano every day at the Mayo Clinic during my second week of testing up there. He was a patients (adult) son and he’d go down to the main lobby of the outpatient building around lunch time and play all kinds of amazing yet upbeat pieces and even took requests from the crowd. Our visits just so happened to overlap that week and I’m glad they did. (Their piano was occasionally played by hired people but mostly it was left open for the public to use. The staff said they’d seen some amazing and complicated pieces played by the most unlikely of people.)
