Absolutely beautiful, this is one of my favorite songs. I studied opera in the 70's as a teen. It wasn't popular for a young black girl but I defied the odds, I loved it.
In the early 80's my college professor asked us to share a highlight in our lives. I told the class I sang the Star Spangled Banner at Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia PA. They started chanting sing, sing, sing. so I did. Everyone in the class was in tears. My professor was so excited he asked for permission for me to sing at graduation. Everyone in our college music department was excited to try something new and have someone sing the Star Spangled Banner, because it had never been done before.
I auditioned before the two heads of the music department, yes, it went very well. I was told a few days later that they changed their minds. They weren't going to change things. I was crushed. My professor met with me, with tears in his eyes he said remember this day. The only reason why you're not singing at this graduation is because you are black. We both cried as he apologized for a racist system that quickly decided this black girl wasn't worthy, simply because I am...

What a shame that so many people were denied the opportunity to hear you sing due to such prejudice! I am so sorry that your opportunity to sing was denied. I am thinking, or maybe hoping, the vast majority of your potential audience would have felt privileged to hear you sing, and only a few racists prevented that.

Dear Miss Lisa, I am so sorry that you were treated like that. You and I must be about the same age. I also know the pain of rejection from the narrowmindedness of the 60s and 70s. I am not black, and yet we shared the same emotions. Not only was I deeply hurt, but it left me so angry. Despite all of Amber Heard’s lunacy, I can’t help but feel a little sorry for her as with each new story we listened to, I would just shake my head realizing that her anger and fear were the real puppetmasters pulling Amber’s strings.
I am appalled. But please tell us, when this was - how long ago?

Pianist was talented but this piece is not meant to be banged on the piano keys but played with a lighter touch. It detracted from the beautiful voice singing Ave Maria

Wow. Hearing this song brings back memories when I sang in the choir in school. It still gives me chills when I hear it. We sang in Latin, all the songs for Mass on Sunday and that was when the Mass was in Latin also. Itis such a beautiful song to hear and sing.
I remember singing in Latin....now I smile at the nun who kept making sure we pronounced the words correctly..she didn't seem to noticed that we were in a children's home from all parts of NYC! 😊😃😉

I sang fo r30 years,and even made a living of it for some time. Several engagements involved me singing this song in the church at weddings. The se young men are very talented. I'm a senior citizen now and can no longer sing. Do I miss it? God, yes! It was such a big part of my life/identity.that's why I can appreciate the talent exhibited here.
