The fastest woman ever, Florence Griffith-Joyner died when she was sleeping, she suffocated in her pillow during a severe epileptic seizure. She was 38 years old. Some say due to enhancing drugs, other say that was a congenital defect. Before the 1988 season, Griffith Joyner's best 100 meter time was 10.96 seconds. In 1988 she (was 29) improved that by 0.47 seconds to a time that no one has approached since, 10.48s. Nowadays she is the record holder. Both in 100m and 200m.
@Gauchoo1234 You're right, Brazil's first two exchanges were superb, but even if the third and last exchange was as good, they still wouldn't have won. At 27 seconds into the race, you can see USA have a 1.5 metre lead which wouldn't have been closed up much at all after the stagger of the bend. Plus Greene was faster than Da Silva - Greene pulls away in the last 50m
damn wat state u from if u don't mind me asking... in IL which isn't really known for its sprinters more competitive in distance but our state qualifying mark for the highest class is i believe 44 flat 44.5 for ours... you would deff take 1st in IL
To be fair, none of the USA runners in this race ever tested positive to drugs. Tim Montgomery who ran for them in the heat admitted to doping and using drugs. The 4 guys in this race are all great legit runners.
Well stated! With the self righteous, holier-than-thou attitude. Have you heard of Dwain Chambers? Cheaters abound, and they are not limited by nationality.
@eXodusVV I love Flo Jo but you're right......10.49 (faulty reading) ..10.54 oylmpic finalsand no women has come close since.......even Jones best times were around 10.6s.....
@chubble101 U gotta be kidding. Jamaica, a country which didnt have it's own antidoping commitee until recently. They probably test 90% less then in US due to lack of funds.
what you talking about??? the brazilian team finish in second. Nigeria's team wasn't in the finals. The "dum" commentator was right because he had a list with him in the paddock. Now, he said "Greene" many times, from Maurice Greene, not green, the color.
That's interesting. If 4 Bolts, the first leg would be his current time +.2 for the curve, then three flying legs about a second under his best, with another +2 for the other curve. That WOULD average 9, wouldn't it? 35 point!!!
Yes Bruce McAvaney is the man. He did all the aussie commentary from 1984 to 2008. It;s a shame we don't have him doing it but the australian telecast switched channels so he have a terrible announcer who doesn't know diddly squat
On August 2, 2008, the International Olympic Committee stripped the gold medal from the U.S. men's 4x400-metre relay team after Antonio Pettigrew admitted to taking EPO and human growth hormone. On July 21, 2012, the IOC decided to reallocate the gold, silver and bronze medals to the teams from Nigeria, Jamaica and the Bahamas that finished behind the US team, respectively.
Your 200m time should be quicker than double your 100m time.. work on your speed endurance and you'll be flying under 23 seconds, my friend has run 11.2 with 22.6 200m pb so is in the same situation as you!
@eXodusVV its funny how everyone talks about Americans drugging...but has anyone noticed the SWIFT UPRISING OF Jamaicans.. This video is from 2000 and there is no Jamaican team, and then in 2008...both men and women's sprinting was dominated by Jamaicans? And ALL 3 of the fastest races had the world record broken by Jamaicans?
Brasil arrebentou, mas o passado e passado. Uma pena que nao continuaram na mesma balada, para acabar dos esses americanos que sao foda no atletismo, pra isso temos que tirar o chapéu para os EUA.
for 100? if so than you r lying look at an olympic 100m time it is in the 9 seconds area so it is imposible for you to run 9.5 when you are 9 years old...see my point!!!!!
Umm are you completely oblivious to the fact that the US relay team had to give back thier medals for this Olympics, since Tim Montgomery was found to be a drugs cheat? So it is fair to say that this record should not have stood either.
Who's this non English speaking dude posting crap. Nigeria was second and USA first. We were just awarded the gold in the 4X400 relay. I'm sure eventually, Nigeria would be awarded gold in this one too. Nigeria we hail thee, son. By the way, radamantissp, don't they have an Español version of TH-cam?
yeh cos she used steroids probably. aint beleivin no other story, nobody improves there best times by such a margin in such a relatively short space of time!!
I LOVE THE ANNOUNCER
i watched it for 20 times, thanks

Nice!
The last brazilian handover took away Brazils chance for gold.
hey, it is allowed for second , third and fourth to run even before hand over, there is no any mistake on the video
@keonist but not the team from stuttgart 1993! they ran 37.40 in the rain in the semi-final with burrel slowin down in the last 20m!!

@chubble101

I reckon if Ato adopted the US team and ran with Mo, they probably would have broken 37.4
dam green killt it
Running 20 meters, I guess - good job, guy.

I'm not sure about fastest woman (slipped my mind) but the fastest man is Usain Bolt with a time of 9.69 in the 100 meter
Wow, you're right...That was awkward

DOPPING FOR US
brasil is the champion!
look at those us boys run !
im an idiot its in the beginning
yeah that will help with my 400 too.
at the time we never had many intl meets in jamaica most of our athletes were tested over seas in ur modern test facilities.......so whats ur point
eu vi esta prova...
resultado:
1-EUA
2-BRAZIL
3-CUBA
no way 42.9 would win state in illinois, not with east st. louis and cahokia, cahokia runs a 41.14
Aww they didn't show them celebrate and put on a show for the audience after the race.

they would be beaten to a pulp by the Jamaican team right now.
an thats quick i can get 11.5 on the 100 and im a freshman. i like the 200 better though 23.5 is my best in that.
Why it a same that Jamaica smash the world record . They are just good.
USA: The kings of the doping and drugs.
The gold medal, in Sydney, goes to Brazil
37.90
BRASIL WINS... THE BEST ! usa allways doing the same !
im 15
our teams best is 46.5
owned
I ran 9.5 whan i was 9 but the wind was 2.1 si the world record didn't count
Brasil arrebentou, mas o passado e passado. Uma pena que nao continuaram na mesma balada, para acabar dos esses americanos que sao foda no atletismo, pra isso temos que tirar o chapéu para os EUA.
even I could run under 13 in the 110m hurdles if i got on steroids!
@puljacina so you really think that team can beat a Jamaican team of Carter, Blake, Bolt, Powell? yeah right keep dreaming.
Don't try blame doping for talent. Jamacian athletes are the real deal. It's cause time brings change. You don't seem to undestand that.
unites states is the best
brasil...........xxxxx
