- Join me goofing around and learn how to obtain 5-way, 7-way, and any higher symmetry you like. This is a great method for building ring stations! Hopefully, this video teaches you a thing or two and gives you some inspiration for your builds :)
This video is effectively the first part of a loose trilogy of ring-related fun.
Part 2: • Building and Breaking ...
Part 3: • Building a Ring Around...

Oh and I did notice that part of the ring loads inside one of the satelite dishes, but even when I raised it on launch clamps or loaded the craft from one of the other launch-sites the Kraken still came to town.
now make a dyson sphere arround the sun or a planet as a spacestation. maybe multiple parts could work
You said this wouldn't be the end, so 10km, 100km?
now make a O'Neill cylinder
my question is, can you make a ring around kerbin?
@@official_julianvandermade10km you say...
*halo music kicks in*
There's only one logical next step.
A Halo around Kerbin
First step would be one around gilly first, then kerbin...
then jool
And then : DA SUN
@@julienn3078 IS A DEADLY LASER
AROUND DA SUN YOU MORON ! (my apologies)
That would be epic.
You invented a way to model gas molecule behaviors with KSP crew cabins...... Legendary
he didn’t invent it tho
@Carp then how do I have a video showing how to do it from several months ago?
once again, I’ve learned this from others and it’s been around for a long time, the only new thing about it is the “remove from symmetry” trick to get 5 and 7 way symmetry, which requires the advanced tweakables, which in turn should be on by default imo, it adds so many features that a lot of people just don’t know about
@@marianandnorbert He found a better way to do it. The older symmetry exploit got patched, and I’ve known about the symmetry removing for quite some time.
@@KC-bu8qq Nah not really, this same way to duplicate parts has been a thing for quite a while, he didn't really invent it, he just put it in a more clean professional video really. Still nice to see. He even said himself in his comment " *I'm sure some of you already knew about this "feature"* but I'd not seen a clear way to determine the desired symmetry (rather than just making loads) and use it to plan orbital rings. It's given me a couple of new prompts for further development and I hope it gives you a few ideas!"
@@marianandnorbert He had a video from 2011 showing him doing it but he deleted it, so yes, he did invent it
Love this bug/feature, and love what you've done with it. Really cool shots of the orbital ring!
why are u not uploading bro
Its not a bug its a feature :)
@Barack Obama Yes sir
@@truth12340 Hes probably figuring out how to do the Jool-5 on jet engines only ;)
@@roelwieggers4181 oh
I'm sure some of you already knew about this "feature", but I'd not seen a clear way to determine the desired symmetry (rather than just making loads) and use it to plan orbital rings. It's given me a couple of new prompts for further development and I hope it gives you a few ideas!
8:21 looks like all the dust when Thanos snapped his fingers
You can make fractals in KSP now
Hazard-ish Challenge. Make a craft that can carry the most passengers possible, while having a long range, and having STOL abilities.
Thanks for the vid, I had no idea how people did it until now
Hazard-ish I have a great idea! Capture a astrroid/comet and put some sort of ring around it, maybe a space station? And sobyou havr a little ring asteroid! Cool isn’t?
A useful tip is to create groups of parts with different number of symmetries and save then as subassemblies; that way you don't need to repeat the whole process next time you need that number.
Can you make an O’Neal cylinder with this?
probably
You can most definitely do a Stanford Torus with this.
This is a fantastic idea! I will have to see what I can do
@@Hazardish hmm maybe there is a way to get very large parts to keep the partcount low ... wasn't there a mod that lets you scale the stock parts freely?
@@DonTekNO tweakscale

Here we see the wild Mk3 Crew Cabins in their natural habitat
THE KING RETURNS!
Love to see you back, even for a moment.
Hello!
@@Hazardish I think the ring clipped through the observation dish of the tracking centre, waking the kraken. ;)
@@Hazardish make this ring have its own planet so it will look like we have a moon
One of these around Gilly would be epic. It would be interesting to see how the gravity engine handles it.
a fun "little" experiment
considering the root part would be inside the planet, probably not well
The solution might be separate it into at least four parts and dock them. It would be a mammoth undertaking just getting the things off Kerbin, let alone the ~7000 m/s of ΔV needed to get to Eve.
@@skylerjr2648 I think there are issues with physics rendering distances once you try to separate them. Check out the video of the guy building a bridge across the canyon on Dres
@@ares7181 Hm... Good point.
With the part count already around a thousand for a 1000 m diameter, the part count for over 13000 m diameter would definitely be beyond any computer's ability to handle.
Maybe if you scale a single part to that size, but then as you say physics becomes questionable.
i also recommend the Editor Extensions Redux mod which gives (among other things) up to x20 symmetry (editable in the settings for more !)
And the mod Recoupler which would make these parts attached together
You can edits its settings for whatever amount of symmetry you want. 20 isnt the limit :)
@@arifkramer4974 Oh I didn't know that thanks !
How would Recoupler work here?
@@Hazardish The attachment nodes of each parts being really close to each others would basically connect, so all the cabins would be connected 2 by 2 (just like the strut you added but better because I guess attachment nodes are stronger).
I already used it in circular stations and it does help a lot
@@remigaillard4802 That's incredible! I'd not heard of that mod before. I'll have to investigate immediately!
So... next week Danny uploads an incredibly fine tuned Jool5 SSTO with foldable wings? I like this parallel Timeline
Yeah looks like some realities got inverted.
Hey, even MrOverfloater might come back, right?
@@vitsalava1251 We can hope!
Worth the wait as always.
I lost count of how many times my mind was blown. I can't remember the last time a video did that for me.
Hazard-ish + Halo, is this paradise ?
You, sir, have impeccable taste in music. Beautiful craft, I look forward to seeing a ring around Gilly.
WOW. I just started rewatching your Videos yesterday!
trippy video, wow, man! glad to see your return
excellent video, looking forward to whatever you have planned next
This is your best one yet, fascinating
Astounding work!
Thank you for sharing!
Am exited to see next one !:)
Your camera-work is incredible!
This video was friggin cool! I've been playing 10 years now and I still learn little things every day. I used to painstakingly use radial symmetry to get odd-numbered symmetry.
Great video man! i loved it!
I dunno what's cooler, the parts rattling around as a swarm or zooming across minmus as a ring
I'd heard about this 'feature' but had never seen a recorded example of how to do it. Thanks greatly
the king of ksp come back!!!
love your works!!
Damn!!
Thats amazing!!
thank you for the trick!
what a great video!
Wow!! That was unbelievable. Congrats 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. 😄
Haha, you brought a new level of Kraken in this one xD. Love the ending too!
i was confused about if i am watching hazardish or danny for a moment lmao
jokes aside i am glad that ring didn't got the kraken attack in the orbit, or it did a lot of times and got edited out, we will never know.
Very Useful info, especially in the more smaller ranges
you seem to have a powerful computer
mine start hating me after 200+ parts and call for the kraken to save him
I"ll have to watch this again and take notes. Thank you.
Your explanations of how you build things is much clearer than Lowne (or anyone else).
Really cool tutorial, hazardish! This opens up so many possibilities! I wonder if you could make the ring even bigger...
There's no doubt about it
I’m glad you didn’t leave a craft download in the description, that would have killed 99% of everyone’s computers. 💻 💥
True, I'd only have a couple left after that
I've just gotten this vid in my recommended after having forgotten about this channel for a couple years. For once, TH-cam actually recommended me something good. Have a nice day Mr. Hazard-ish!
awesome job mate!
8:30 oh so that's what an atom actually looks like. loved that you used this to rip a hole into another dimension too lmao
Love the wave music. It’s fitting
Great video style :) High five!
Wow this is a cool technique! It even works on console! I can’t believe I didn’t know this. Thanks!!!!
Thats awesome dude:)
This guy is crazy, and a genius... I don't play KSP, but your vids are so much fun. Next step... orbital ring ? Gundam 00 style ? ^^
Neatly, a ring 1,000m in diameter would need to spin just under one time a minute to generate earth-surface artificial gravity.
Exactly what ì was about to search up. Thanks!
Incorrect.
500 m radius would require 1,337 RPM at a tangential velocity of 70 m/s for 1 G. Slightly rounded down.
Really, even 0,5 to 0,75 G would be enough for long durations. So even 1 RPM at 500 m radius would suffice.
To get the RPM under 1, you would need a radius of 1000 m (diameter of 2000 m) and a tangential velocity of 99 m/s for 1 G.
@@skylerjr2648 still, it is approximately correct. Close enough for "practical" purposes
@@xbrsq Approximately? No. It's 0,55 G meaning he's off by 45%.
He likely used an online calculator and used the diameter instead of halving it for the radius.
@@skylerjr2648 by close enough, I mean off by less than a factor of 3 or 4. Anyways, 0.55G is acceptable, even if it takes time to adjust to.
Edit: They probably did use a calculator, or at least did the calculations, just not nessecarily an online one
I sure know what youtuber will love mesing with this!
This is amazing!
9:44 thats some serious The Expanse vibe there, beltalowda
9:36 that shots the money right there; Larry Niven phoned asking if you'd seen any Builders lately
The man the myth the Hazard has returned to bless us with such a godly creation
This is Remarkable. I'm wondering how excited the KSP devs must be when a new Hazardish video comes out.
Best intro I've ever seen or heard

This is incredibly cool
welcome back!
oh my god ive been playing ksp since vers. 0.23 and idk how new this is but i would have never even thought of using this "touching smth with smth to make it that symmetry" to get like 5, 7 or any symmetry really appreciate this one i can build so much more shit
You just earned another subscriber.

He's back yay
the frickin cabin dance party bit is hilarious

I played around with this symmetry bug a long time ago, it was fun making super round objects out of braces and other things ~
10:29 I thought the camera turning was about to reveal a even bigger ring XD
The Mad Lad has spoken words of wisdom!

This is so epic
8:28 looks like an angry bee swarm
He come back, YAAAAy
He's back!!!!!!!!!!
holy shit this is hazard-ish for some reason i thought you were stratzenblitz the entire video
This, is possibly the largest single craft structure in ksp, the next largest is possibly the Dres bridge but that uses several crafts.
You definitely now need to fly a spacecraft through the ring in an opposite orbit
Everything is literally possible with Harard-ish on our side!
It would be insane to see a ring like Saturn's around Minmus
This was spectacular!! Have some algorythm food 💕🥰🌸
We will watch your career with great interest
OMG ... You CRAZY SON OF A BISCUIT ... you actually did it. ಠ_ಠ
Love it.
I say this needs to turn into a challenge. Fit moho through a ring!
I can't wait for the Ori ships to come through.
I fully expect us to wittness a dyson sphere around Kerbol after couple more videos on the subject
Oh press shift+x lower the symmetry by one… I literally pressed every key trying to find this but no luck, thanks hazard-ish!
absolutely genius, perhaps evilly so!
That's some happy parts jumping around. They must be high on something.
Amazing!!!! =)
Sweet! Larry Niven’s Kringworld! I think you need to try and play orbital hoopla with Gilly
