SO excited at the prospect of modded KSP on this channel! You've done an excellend job showing off for years what can be accomplished in vanilla(-esque) KSP, and I'm excited to see what's next!
Nice to see a KSP1 video again! KSP-1 with parts mods is fab! The main ones I use is the base-building one that you're using there, a lot of Nertea's mods (ALWAYS including the space station mod), Snacks! for simple life-support, SCANSat, Konstruction (mainly for the "welding" docking ports), Outer Planets Mod, Minor Planets mod, and I'm starting to try out the Galaxies Unbound stuff. Plus some other bits and bobs, but none of which drastically change things.
Amazing video Matt! As much as I love parts mods (especially Nertea‘s, excited for you to try out near future technologies, or maybe far future as well), I really hope you play with the outer planets mod at some point in your modded ksp endeavors, it adds so many new and exciting destinations.
I think the point would be to use landing legs and then adjust them all so that the base is perfectly level no matter the ground conditions. And I would love to see more modded part vids! Good luck for the house renovation!
I for one would love to see more KSP 1 videos. I will always support your channel and i know ksp 2 videos were doing well for you, but man do i miss these types of videos.
Near the beginning, you mentioned not wanting to mess up what mod what parts are from, there’s another mod called the janitor’s closet that lets you see what mod it’s from when you hover over it. The mod also lets you filter from mod and more precise cross section area.
Finally Matt playing ksp with mods. Love it! May i suggest FreeIVA for if you use Nertea’s Stockalike Station Parts Redux? Jonny has done a lot of amazing work on FreeIVA and it really adds a nice layer to ksp. Possibly a nice use for you kerbal controller?
Matt, I recommend you get the outer planets mod right away, it is an absolute blast and makes the system feel so much bigger. Also consider getting the Kcalbeloh black hole system mod if you want an interstellar stage to the modded playthrough you feel like doing down the track, it is absolutely breathtaking. ALSO GET FREE IVA IT IS ONE OF THE BEST MODS!!!
personally, for my KPBS bases I usually start with a Minmus one - lower gravity than the Mun, relatively easy to get to, and it has those nice big flats that don't have any awkward hills or anything to deal with Also, I usually assemble it in situ - that is, on the surface - by having each module basically having just. wheels and landing jets and such on the sides that can be scrapped and recycled once they're attached to the rest of the base
Because of this (and the other mods I use that interface with it), I have an order to the modules I send and attach: Core (includes a comms array on top), followed by Solar Array (incl. capacitor banks), followed by Recycling, followed by a rover bay for autonomous vehicles, followed by a greenhouse, followed by habitation, followed by science modules, followed by a mining rig, and finally followed by a remote launchpad
Matt, definitely don't feel bad going back to KSP1. You don't need to explain yourself, we know... lol modded ksp is the way to go for sure! Excited to see it :)
Honestly the other worlds mod seems cool, it's a planet pack, story pack and a part pack in one mod Edit: the Precursors planet pack is a neat one, you should try it
You should get a mod called "freeiva" it allows you to walk or float around in first person inside your space stations or surface bases. Really fun and makes surfaces bases and space stations feel way more immersive. (you can also open doors and interact with things in it)
thank you for this video! i love Nils277's BPS Mod, will never forget the endless hours of testing before i was able to establish a PBS Base on Laythe (using chutes to land and PBS wheels to align the separate modules)... glorious times!
I would love to see a full colonizing the system series with mods. Like creating space stations for refuelling, a mun station for creating and launching ships from so you only need to transport crew from Kerbin and launch the actual mission from the mun. Slowly pushing to the further reaches of the system using stations and colonies to provide resources and lower the fuel needed on a vessel allowing you to make smaller more efficient ships that refuel along the way. Would be awesome to see an attempt at making the kerbals fully take over and have a multi planet civilization. Would also be very cool to role play science stations/colonies for the unique places in the system that might not be suited to being actually settled. Basically a save where you do everything you have probably done before but in one continuous save using mods to facilitate the more advanced stuff. And maybe by the time you feel finished with it, ksp2 might be in a better spot haha.
Hey Matt! Loved the video and if you want to show the ivas in full detail you could try the freeIVA mod that allows you to walk around in iva. Loved the video!
A couple years ago when your channel slowed down, I was sad to not see your ksp videos as frequently. I'm so excited to see you play modded ksp now. I hope this continues for a while.
I love the Planetary Base System. I've built some pretty cool bases with that. Add in the Orbital Construction Facility and you can build ships in orbit and also as part of your base.
Hey Matt! Would love to see Outer Planets Mod or Galaxies Unbound (or if we're lucky and because they are compatible, both of them) make it into the mix! Excited to finally see you make a series dipping your toes into ksp mods!
Hey Matt, Been watching you since I was about 9 years old, im almost done with high school now! Glad to see you progressing onto KSP modded when we all did a while ago , I just purchased blackracks volumetric clouds and am loving it. Thanks for inspiring me to go into the aerospace industry, and im joining the royal australian airforce in just over a year!
Really nice! I can't believe that the "bear in mind" comment was an accident while the bear was on screen. I've built a few surface bases with this mod and usually use landing struts so I can change their settings to level the base.
Matt, you should use free iva it is literally what the name suggests you can walk around in iva. And a good mod but very complex is mks(modular Kolonisation system) and space station expansion redux or something like that
Honestly, I haven't been into Matt's stuff in a good few years. This has delightfully proved me wrong! I'd like to suggest the mod Editor Extensions, due to its functionality to autostrut every part on your ship with the click of a button. It's real useful!
I think I'm not alone in saying that I would watch the heck out of any sort of "interstellar" career or science save from you. One where you build up over many episodes to get the technology required to use far future technologies to travel to another star system. Glad that the state of KSP2 doesn't mean that you are stopping uploading KSP1 content!
In terms of building mods, I highly recommend Kerbal Inventory System and Kerbal Attachment System, they make building bases phenomenal. If you like Restock, it’s sister mod Restock+ adds parts that feel like stock and match the style of the parts you’ve got. If you’re looking at life support, I use Kerbalism but it’s a bit intense, TAC is a good minimal life support version as well. Looking forward to a modded series!
@@thePalindromeCrafter not that I’ve experienced, but I haven’t tried it on every version and haven’t tried putting breaking ground parts in inventory so maybe, haven’t gone that in depth though.
YES MODS PLEASE I have always found your videos entertaining and educational when it comes to the core content of KSP, but I kinda wished all this time you'd use more mods! My suggestion for consideration (out of the many mods I personally like) is TAC Life Support :3
Modded KSP let's go! I'd love to see a USI Colonization series, that gets complicated fast. I'm definitely happy to see you going back to KSP 1, I don't really care for the visuals of KSP 2. If you keep going with modded KSP 1 I will definitely be tuning in. Also, very excited to see my two favorite KSPtubers working together
Yay! Matt is finally playing with my favourite mod! Don’t forget to turn off (or on? I forgor) the brakes if you build a big base, or the Kraken will eat it. This mod is perfect for a fueling station, but moreso for stories with Kerbals doing specific jobs all over the solar system. Plz RPG the hell out of this series!
Suggestions: All of nertea's mods (near future series, far future technologies, space station parts expansion), bluedog design bureau, tantares, habtech, SOCK, estreetrocket's mods (ORANGES, Rocket motor menagerie, eisenhower astronautics), and photoncorp.
Oh my god, Matt and modded KSP, this is gonna be the most amazing series ever 😍 The planetary bases mod already looks great - i paused the video during the showcase all the time to read the post-its and "Chips of unknown taste" 😆Hilarious, the mod creator had a lot of fun doing it.
I think if it were any other youtuber, I'd be annoyed if I came to watch a video and they begun telling me their life stories.. but with Matt, I actually enjoy listening to how his life is going while I watch him play xD
I have this mod, and ive just spent the best part of a few days trying to figure out how to build and connect a station together, this has given me some good ideas of pre building in orbit
I've used this mod my entire KSP career (I play heavily modded) since it adds another gameplay goal besides just get to another place and put a long term probe or station in orbit. Long term survival on another planet is a human goal, it only makes sense that long term survival on another planet or moon would also be a Kerbal goal. If you're looking to do modded from now on, I'd recommend SpaceY (play on SpaceX) for more and much larger rocket parts. Makes launching large heavy parts fun again since some of the rockets are obscenely large and entertaining.
Great you are coming to Paris! I hope you have a lot of fun here. Also great to see you play KSP 1 with mod's. Mod's and especially part mods are quite easy to use in KSP 1 even for beginners.
Great to see you push boundaries in KSP 1 again. :D Dont forget to ask very critical questions at the event like budget amount of people and time on ksp 2 and why the hell choose unity engine with same bugs.
KSP2 developers only needed to integrate existing KSP mods with the core game without the modding bane of frequent crashes. Excellent video, keep it up! Only you Matt, Manley and the mod squads can save KSP2! Private Division, hire them as directors, with a bonus! (Years of accumulated back pay for extensive R&D and marketing)...
I"VE WANTED THIS FOR SO LONG, if you really want a great experience I highly recommend the other worlds story mod on career mode, however you will need a good amount of other mods to make that work as it is an interstellar system mod.
Here is me voicing my support for more Matt Modds KSP!!! (Feel free to use that as a series title if you want, I doubt I'm the first to think of something like it though haha!)
Funny, I had the same train of thought: KSP2 will take some years to get interesting, and I did practically everything in KSP1. Recently I reinstalled MKS, Modular Kolonizations Systems by Umbra Space Industries / Roverdude. I've been building colonies on Minmus and Duna since then and are just bringing the next colony to Vall. Really nice and complicated mod. With Life Support and Habitation timers, it gives you a real incentive to explore systems more like in real life. No more Kerbals in command chairs orbiting the sun for several centuries. Now, you're sending probes ahead of your colony, you setup infrastructure and build a proper base. Got many more hours of fun out of Kerbal Space Program with it.
Good luck with the busy week Matt! Don’t push yourself to make a ksp video if you don’t have the time though, we are all used to waiting for ksp 2 updates XD
you're going to LOVE this mod together with the mod that allows your float around the habitats in IVA. It's an AMAZING mod! has opening port doors and everything
I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long. You should also add freeiva to be able to move through the habitats freely and feline utility rovers for very cool rovers!
Keep doing Modded stuff. You taught me to play this game on my X-box but now that i bought a computer to play KSP2.... i want to do a modded Black hole game. Would like to see you tackel it aswell.
Imagine living in such an awful place that you can't move your car out of your garage without getting a permit. What a wild story in the middle of the video there.
Its all about the delta V and time efficiency for space missions. So the E-sport event will definitely be about making the most optimal and efficient transfer or at least a part of the challenge. Good luck to your team!
FYI - Matt, we love your rambling. Its like 50% of why we watch your vids. Its funny as heck though that after years of doing it in every video you apologize for it. XD
Hey Matt!! You ABSOLUTELY need to install all of Nertea's Near Future mods.....his mods are truly what turn KSP1 into KSP2 imo. Great vid as always!!!!
Dude ! Been following your channel for idk how many years now, followed how the sequel was turning out, and I am totally on your side. Fuck ksp 2, ksp has lots of mods that could 100% give so much new life to your content. I 100% agree with you on this one. Genius !
Scott Manley was actually the one creator that kept me playing ksp back as a teen... I really miss his modded Interstellar play-through. Looking forward to yours Matt!
Colonize the ENTIRE Sol system will be the challenge! All jokes aside, it might just be some really difficult to get to place, plus having relays that allow 24/7 connectivity to said place? Or WAIT! What if it was a CAREER mode run?! What if you need to finish the tech tree in 24 hours 😱. Good luck Matt!
There are actually special little legs that come with the mod. Easy to miss because they look like just an odd little square. They lift the base like 4" off the ground and i think are mostly there for safer landing and damping out imperfections in the terrain. They're slick though. I've used them in some other random projects too, they're great low profile legs.
This was a nice vid! And while KSP2 is still being developed and you have played through stock KSP1 a couple of times, its nice to see you try new conspets. I would not complain if youd try some modded carreer playthrough on super hard or something. Not as hard as RP-1 or anything but something in between.
I would love to see a modded career mode series. Maybe add a bunch of mods for features that would've been in KSP2. Near Future technologies for some of the futuristic engines and such, Galaxies Unbound for interstellar (maybe the Outer Planets Mod too), a couple of colony part packs, all the fancy visual mods, Extraplanetary Launchpads for the capability to construct and launch vessels in orbit or on other celestial bodies, etc, etc. I think it'd be really fun, and there aren't all too many KSP career lets plays (for 1.12 in the stock system anyway). The main one that comes to mind at the moment is VAOS.
I would LOVE if you dared get Kerbalism, that would REALLY step up the challenge and give meaning to evry single base you build as you colonize further !! Hope to see you soon at KSPContest in Paris !
Hey Matt! Loved the video, you mentioned not being opposed to video ideas - what about a supply mission and crew swap to this base with only reusable craft? Kerbal Reusability expansion could work great for this…
fun fact, there's a mod set designed to work with Planetary Base Systems called Extraplanetary Launchpads. With This mod installed it adds a few parts to PBS which allows bases to now mine resources from a planet or moon and convert it into rocket parts in order to construct fully working rockets. It adds that thing KSP 2 also promised but won't get for a while. It is a fairly complicated mod so I definitely recommend getting to know the layout and how everything works together. PS: when creating your save file you can group the surface base parts together into a single tab in the VAB so they aren't scattered all over the place. (also works with EPL) ~Happy Launching o7
Really nice video Matt, can I suggest the freeiva mod so that you can tour base and station interiors in first person. Freeiva also supports tons part mods (including planetary base systems) as well as stock. You can also use the "through the eyes of a kerbal" mod for first person view on EVA.
We should develop a community mod pack with mods like this that implements the features of the sequel. We’ll call it: KSP Too.
We'll build our own KSP 2, with Black Jack, and Hookers. -Bender Rodriguez, Futurama
ooh, we could have what is essentially a KSP version of STALKER's Anomaly's modpack. A standalone foundation for community mods.
pretty much the ksp interstellar pack that manley played way back when.
Procedural wings is also a thing and pretty much brings the same features as the procedural wings in KSP2
Someone start a Git repo. I'm happy to lend a hand and get involved.
It's about time we see KSP 1 modded in a Matt Lowne video.

one "absolutely critical" mod you need for your "bases everywhere" playstyle is Kerbal Attachment System (KAS), it allows you to "weld" structures together using modified docking ports the create a permanent attachment
also Kerbal Inventory System (KIS) same dev, but kerbals on spacewalk can unattach, move, pocket, and attach parts to existing vehicles

Yes! Welcome to the modded KSP1!
We makin it onto Proxima Centauri b with this one
And a good mod but very complex is mks(modular Kolonisation system) and space station expansion redux or something like that
He already wanted to do the latter, he talked about it in the video
@@memereview305 ow ok, I skipped a part like where he did the launches etc
Honestly, I haven't been into Matt's stuff in a good few years. This has delightfully proved me wrong!
I'd like to suggest the mod Editor Extensions, due to its functionality to autostrut every part on your ship with the click of a button. It's real useful!
0:27 more like never now lol
I think I'm not alone in saying that I would watch the heck out of any sort of "interstellar" career or science save from you. One where you build up over many episodes to get the technology required to use far future technologies to travel to another star system. Glad that the state of KSP2 doesn't mean that you are stopping uploading KSP1 content!
Imagine a interstellar return mission
The fact that you can't just park in front of your house is wild to me.
The UK is a totalitarian state
I loved the colony mods when doing my "kerb-x interplanetary" stuff years ago. I was hoping to use KSP 2 to get back into it, but oh boy, what a mess
Yay, Matt Lowne!
pleeeease, i've been wanting modded career series for so long, and they exist but your narrative style is wonderful and would be so nice to watch
Rip ksp 2
In terms of building mods, I highly recommend Kerbal Inventory System and Kerbal Attachment System, they make building bases phenomenal. If you like Restock, it’s sister mod Restock+ adds parts that feel like stock and match the style of the parts you’ve got. If you’re looking at life support, I use Kerbalism but it’s a bit intense, TAC is a good minimal life support version as well. Looking forward to a modded series!
Doesn't KIS conflict with the Breaking Ground dlc?
@@thePalindromeCrafter not that I’ve experienced, but I haven’t tried it on every version and haven’t tried putting breaking ground parts in inventory so maybe, haven’t gone that in depth though.
this did not age well
YES MODS PLEASE
I have always found your videos entertaining and educational when it comes to the core content of KSP, but I kinda wished all this time you'd use more mods!
I have been waiting for literally years for you to embrace part mods. I'm honestly super hyped!
Suggestions: All of nertea's mods (near future series, far future technologies, space station parts expansion), bluedog design bureau, tantares, habtech, SOCK, estreetrocket's mods (ORANGES, Rocket motor menagerie, eisenhower astronautics), and photoncorp.
Oh my god, Matt and modded KSP, this is gonna be the most amazing series ever 😍
The planetary bases mod already looks great - i paused the video during the showcase all the time to read the post-its and "Chips of unknown taste" 😆Hilarious, the mod creator had a lot of fun doing it.
Always wanted to see modded content on this channel, I really hope you'll keep doing this
oh hells yeah!!! KPBS is one of my all time faves, i've built many a massive colony with these parts
I love modded ksp, the ease of installing and the scale of the modding community is what originally got me interested in the game.
Imagine living in such an awful place that you can't move your car out of your garage without getting a permit. What a wild story in the middle of the video there.
hey matt, a really fun mod to use is for surface bases and space stations, is free iva, it allows you to move around during iva,
also it works with most modded iva's as well as stock, very fun with iva mods that give you interactable iva's.
I miss the good old days of modded ksp playthroughs, im so glad your going to do one. I loved scott manleys interstellar quest
XD
This was an amazing way to wake up this morning. Thank you so much Matt for making another KSP 1 video.
Hey Matt!! You ABSOLUTELY need to install all of Nertea's Near Future mods.....his mods are truly what turn KSP1 into KSP2 imo. Great vid as always!!!!
It is good to be back. Missed KSP1
Dude ! Been following your channel for idk how many years now, followed how the sequel was turning out, and I am totally on your side. Fuck ksp 2, ksp has lots of mods that could 100% give so much new life to your content. I 100% agree with you on this one. Genius !
That base mod is the absolute best.. one of my favorite mods and they make bases look cool. ALSO good parts for spaceships as well.
Great video, Matt!
I would really like to see more moddet ksp 1 content from your.
:D
There are actually special little legs that come with the mod. Easy to miss because they look like just an odd little square. They lift the base like 4" off the ground and i think are mostly there for safer landing and damping out imperfections in the terrain. They're slick though. I've used them in some other random projects too, they're great low profile legs.
I was so happy to see this video. Thank you so much Matt!!!! FYI if you want recolourable parts get Textures Unlimited Recolor Depot and Lazy painter.
Why am I more happy to see Matt using mods than seeing ksp 2s release
So great for your Channel.
I love watching you with a great game and fresh content.
Ksp2 is just nothing of the above but you.
Kerbal Reusability expansion could work great for this…
I’m starting to cry
Realising there will never be anymore thunderbirds are go episodes
Ever again 😢
I'm so glad your first one of these videos is of one of my favorite parts mods
fun fact, there's a mod set designed to work with Planetary Base Systems called Extraplanetary Launchpads.
(also works with EPL)
~Happy Launching o7
Really nice video Matt, can I suggest the freeiva mod so that you can tour base and station interiors in first person. Freeiva also supports tons part mods (including planetary base systems) as well as stock. You can also use the "through the eyes of a kerbal" mod for first person view on EVA.
