@@nonnayoubuzinnes1669 interesting! I’ll have to go back and listen to Core and see if I can hear what they were. My favorite song from their last self titled album, between the lines, as a pretty obvious musical reference/tribute to the nirvana song, stay away. So I don’t doubt that the influence is there.
@@wtclifford I don't think they sounded like Nirvana at all, it was just the music press being lazy. Even now they try to put grunge down and make out Brit Pop was far better when Brit Pop was just Beatles and Kinks rip off bands. I think they were unique and should have got more praise. Scott's lyrics were so good too. Big Bang Baby in particular.
I was in high school from 92-96.....I hate that I was so engrossed into Hip Hop and R&B that I missed all of the rock stuff. I remember classmates talking about all these bands, but it wasn't until I was an adult that I went back and dug into what I missed then. The 90s truly was a golden era for music in the U.S.
I wasn’t really into metal or even rock music growing up but as I got into my twenties and I heard Scott’s voice and read his lyrics it became really hard not to love every STP album. He had a way of sharing his pain through his music exactly like every talented artist has and it totally broke my heart to hear of his death. The really talented musicians are always tortured. RIP Scott.
When it came to hard rock of the early 90s, these guys were really at the top of their game, propelling their edge to a different level. The DeLeo brothers were such a force of a tandem on guitar, putting out one bad ass, menacing riff after another, particularly on STPs first couple of albums. And Scott Weiland had that unmistakable voice that carried perfectly with Robert’s backing vocals. Although regrettably, I never did see them in concert. But I did manage to see Velvet Revolver at the ‘05 Oz Fest, right before Black Sabbath took the stage. It’s really sad what happened to Scott as addiction is such an enormous beast to conquer. May he RIP.
musicians come and go but scott passing really hit me hard. I grew up going to iconic concerts and shows but when I saw STP live the first time, that was such a moment of clarity of what a show should be. unfortunately, if you followed even his later career, you saw the writing on the wall. the video of his last concert was just sad to watch cause he was so far gone, it was over already.
I remember when I saw them on the tour for No.4, it was a phenomenal show. They had a drape set up covering the stage and when the show kicked off Scott had the megaphone doing the opening of dead and bloated and when the heavy riff hit, the curtain dropped and we were off to the races. It’s hard to believe almost a decade after it first was released, dead and bloated was still one of the best set opening songs ever. Besides the drama with the start though, the show was stripped down with no lights show/spectacles really just raw live music and it was awesome.
Core was the first CD I ever bought, been a huge fan ever since. They were the soundtrack to my life then as an awkward kid of the 90's. They were great live too, no pretentiousness, played what everyone wanted to hear. Great video!
LOVE STP! Their LP, Core was by far my favorite from the 90's. I have seen STP at least 3 times, , maybe four. The last time I saw them with Scott was in 2010 and they were amazing, tight set and they played everything! Such a great time.! I love Weiland's showmanship - it was like no other.
I saw STP three times live, and out of the hundreds of shows I've been to and hundreds of bands I've seen, they were my favorite to watch live. Weiland was one of the most underrated front men in recent history.
The name change was one of the biggest reasons they were considered a label plant, STP literally didn't exist and then all of a sudden there's this unknown band signed to a major label. I remember no one, NO ONE, ever mentioned this. I was big into grunge and rock and read everything I could get my hands on and I never knew about Might Joe Young and the years they spent building their reputation. Even Vedder said he never heard of them, no shit mate, STP didn't exist but I bet, 100%, that he saw MJY at some point in the day. They were a great band, something different to the 'Seattle sound', one of the classic 90's LA sounding bands like Jane's Addiction as opposed to Nirvana.
I first saw STP before Core was released on the Megadeth tour and I’m shocked to hear that the audiences were unreceptive because we were blown away by it. Had never heard of them and woke up first thing in the morning to speed to Streetside Records to pick up a record and was devastated to learn that it hadn’t been released yet. It was a crazy good show and I didn’t miss a single show after that. Not one. And Velvet Revolver, too. God I miss those guys. Such amazing live shows and music.
I will always love STP to this day. I miss Scott. I don’t understand why they would get so much hate from the media and other bands. They have nothing but classics tracks that I still sing to this day. Scott had a sound of his own so I don’t get how they could compare them to Pearl Jam or Alice In Chains.
We came back from Desert Storm, and within that year, music shifted from heavy metal to grunge. I remmeber being at a record store in Tacoma and they introduced "the big three" Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains. It must of been right after Core was released. Man, that was a great time for music. Pearl Jam, Soungarden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains dominated. It was the beginning of the end of music as we knew it.
I remember sneaking my girlfriends In through my bedroom window late at night MTV on and for some reason, the songs plush or interstate love song would always come on, and it would light the room up with purple blueish pinkish lights. Great time to be a young teenager. I loved their early music, but my favorite album ended up being tiny music from the Vatican gift shop, the 1996 album.
STP is my favorite band from the 90's. It became obvious that Scott was not going to outrun his drug problem. I so wanted to see them live and got tickets for the October 10, 2000 show in St. Paul but could not attend as I went into labor with my third child 6 weeks early. I saw Velvet Revolver with Alice in Chains opening, an awesome show, but still regretted I missed STP. So when they reunited in 2008 and went on tour, announced a stop back in St. Paul, I took the day off of work to get tickets. It was a good show, but you could see the toll drugs had on Scott. I knew afterwards I would never see him at a STP show again. It is ironic he died in a tour bus outside the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN just miles away from St. Paul. I saw STP one more time with their new front man Jeff Gutt in 2018. The band was good as ever, but still miss Scott.
My favorite band from the 90's..Robert and Dean are insane musicians..and Scott ( imo ) is the greatest frontman of all time..they saud if you seen them live and didn't like them that they'd win you over with their live shows..I never got to see them.. 😢 Rest easy, Scott aka Melody Man
Core came out while was in high school. A kid sitting next to me was singing Dead and Bloated and I was like "WTF are you singing" and I haven't looked back. I just ordered Purple on vinyl after watching this. Great video.
Great video as always. You always wonder what any band's next album would've sounded like, if all members were still alive. It's amazing how all their albums sounded different.
When Dave Mustaine isn’t being bitter or getting his ego hurt, he’s actually quite the good egg. Love STP and Megadeth and am not surprised Dave helped STP out as he essentially was in their shoes 8-9 years before then building his own band from scratch. RIP Scott (and Chester!)
One of the best, if not the best documentary out there in TH-cam on these guys, STP, loved them so much then and still now. RIP Scott WEILAND. Hope you are living the life you always wanted. His voice was golden. ❤
I was a BIG BIG fan from the get go in early 1992… I never really considered them “grunge” they sorta had their own vibe. Epic band only regret never seeing them live.
I saw STP in 2008 and it was the best concert ive been to. Scott Weiland gave an amazing performance and the sound the band was so clear and crisp. So grateful to have seen them even though i was in the throws myself at the time.
i love when musicians wait until after the record is finished to go to rehab. Richard Patrick of Filter waited until after they finished Title of Record to go to rehab and that album is fuckin killer. RIP to Scott. super sad story. i've been clean from H. and all other hard drugs for 10 and a half years, myself
Trippen on a Hole- I get a Janes Addiction vibe on that one. Fine tune. I only heard STP on the radio over the years, now I’m appreciating all the great songs they created. Riff City!
I went to see STP recently with Jeff Gutt on vocals when they came to Costa Rica and the show was really really good. They mostly played songs off Core, Purple and Tiny Music, which is a shame since their record from 2018 has some good rockers in it. Their last album is very good too, if you enjoy acoustic mellow music.
I loved stp from the moment my ears were blessed to hear them. They have so many bangers, they made amazing music together. Addiction is such a b*stard. Steals so much talent from humanity. Grateful I was alive to hear them.
I tried to hate these guys and couldn't. For my money, these, guys were 10x the band Nirvana and Pearl Jam were. They embraced Rock n Roll, when all of their peers were pretending to shun it. They left behind some timeless, incredible music.
These guys were far and beyond better than everything that was going on back then heck even now,Dean made that Gibson howl very open minded guitar player good job Dean!!
Great video. 43-year-old metal-head now but back in the early 90’s I was more into the hip-hop and dance music of the time. I liked rock music but it was stuff like the Black Album and Use Your Illusion. Didn’t much care for the grunge bands back then. But the first time I heard Interstate Love Song, I swear it touched my soul. The catchy hook and massive guitar tone just sucked me in and set me on the path to loving Hard Rock and Metal ever since and I will never look back. So glad I finally got to see these guys when they reunited in 2008. I will always remember that show. I don’t listen to them as much anymore but STP changed my life and they will always have a special place in my heart ❤.
Way back in August '94; friend of my brother's kept calling our house, looking for my brother; after HOURS of NOT being able to 'locate'; I was given the option to pay for the ticket (brother hadn't paid yet) for the STP show in Massachusetts (we lived in NH); EXCELLENT SHOW
Back in 1989 or 90, when they were still called Mighty Joe Young, and I was 19 or 20 years old I used to crash their rehearsals, sit on the ground in a very small practice room at Trojan Studios in Garden Grove (recently known as Backline Studios,), and drum on the carpet along with them practicing. They didn’t seem to mind, and I gave them lots of compliments. telling them that I know that they’re going to be famous. And that they sounded so amazingly tight and have such great feel. They were by far the best sounding rock band I ever experienced. And I’m pretty sure nothing was going through the PA but vocals. I’m not saying they welcomed me with open arms and smiles, but they seemed to tolerated me and let me hang around. One of the greatest experiences ever!Extremely inspiring! I ended up singing most of their big songs in my cover band all throughout the 90s and early 2000s, playing gigs in Hawaii, Alaska, and all over Orange County, California.
Im glad i got to see Stp in 97 and Bush, both bands were brilliant live and on records..👍🏻🎸 Scott is sadly missed. 1990s had he best music. I wish i could have seen Stp unplugged. Velvet revolver was pretty good.
One of the few bands I can actually say you can just push play from start to finish and get through their entire catalogue without a bad song. My favorite band from the 90's and Tiny Music is my go to🤘
I use to listen to all those bands! The 90s was my decade! The 90s was the best 10years for music! And for me! I had everything in the 90s! The best jobs the best women! I had money to spend! The best friends, the best vacations! The best apartment! Everything was great in the 90s! I went to the both woodstocks! I saw all the best bands live! I knew once 2000s came! It will never be the same!
I’ve seen him sober; just out of rehab in CA. Saying how happy he was to be sober and enjoying life. You could literally feel the light coming from him. The band wasn’t sober though. I saw him and the band in Denver. He was lost again in his addiction. The sadness had reached him again. He was incredible to watch! Undeniably, a man that cast his spell on you.
This is tremendous. Thank you. Soooo much to tell about icons like Weiland & Staley. And both their bands just so incredibly talented & underappreciated here in sh*tty 2023.
Look at his EYES during the Big Bang Baby video. That says everything about Scott Weiland that you need to know. He was on drugs for decades at a time. RIP Scott. But having the band fronted by some other dude singing his songs for nostalgia dollars is B.S.
I am a huge STP fan. I've seen them play 4 or 5 times. The last time was right when he relapsed for the last time. Sadly it was one of his best performances. Some front men just aren't the same sober.
Have a place in ❤for them. Maybe cuz theyre part of my younger daze in CA and i respect the power they brought. I love this bio!Plush and Interstate Love Song are as beautiful as any 90's music by Sinead, Dylan, REM Grant Lee Bflo, etc .
STP was the band that raised me, I loved their album and have always felt their music helped me get thru hard times. Went to see them, but they didn’t show because I think the lead singer by that time was too far gone into his bad habits. Wish I could have seen them live at least once. 😢 RIP Scott, one of my favorite lead singers. ❤
Best band of the 90s. Hands down. 4 great albums in that decade. Hardly a grunge band. Hard rock band that had more experimental and laid back stuff to offer than so called grunge.
Sadly he was last seen at a bar/restaurant down the street from me the night he passed away on his tour bus. Such a talent. So much talent in the 90’s when i was young.
Rick Beato’s interview with Robert DeLeo was really good and I recommend it. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the band and he went into the whole backstory behind each song, not just the bass parts although that was there as well. I guess I never realized how good this guy is and how integral he was in terms of songwriting within the band including all the disparate influences he draws from, but also how collaborative the band chemistry was.
I saw STP when Core came out. They opened for Megadeth and the entire show was fantastic. The only show I saw that topped it was Ozzy/Alice in Chains/Motorhead.

My favorite song from their last self titled album, between the lines, as a pretty obvious musical reference/tribute to the nirvana song, stay away. So I don’t doubt that the influence is there.
I remember the comparison to Pearl Jam. I never really heard it, myself. At that time, I loved both of them.
That guitar sound on "Plush" is like a buzzsaw! One of the best guitar tones I've ever heard.
STP was my favorite band as a kid before i discovered punk. Saw them in concert multiple times and they always put on a hell of a show
I was in high school from 92-96.....I hate that I was so engrossed into Hip Hop and R&B that I missed all of the rock stuff. I remember classmates talking about all these bands, but it wasn't until I was an adult that I went back and dug into what I missed then. The 90s truly was a golden era for music in the U.S.
We were spoiled w good music back then.
May he RIP.
It's just sad that many great artists even up leaving us so soon.
Scott broke my heart. I didn't realize he had so much trouble as a kid. Such a beautiful man. So is Robert. I love tall Italian men.
musicians come and go but scott passing really hit me hard.
Always loved STP growing up as a kid. I saw them open for Smashing Pumpkins recently and both bands were awesome!
2 of my faves from the 90s.
A great time to be alive 1989~1999. 74 cent gas, 10 cent wings and this new music known as grunge. Fk yeah!
Randy
Core was the first CD I ever bought, been a huge fan ever since. They were the soundtrack to my life then as an awkward kid of the 90's. They were great live too, no pretentiousness, played what everyone wanted to hear. Great video!
LOVE STP! Their LP, Core was by far my favorite from the 90's. I have seen STP at least 3 times, , maybe four. The last time I saw them with Scott was in 2010 and they were amazing, tight set and they played everything! Such a great time.! I love Weiland's showmanship - it was like no other.
I saw them 3 times as well. So amazing live.
I saw STP three times live, and out of the hundreds of shows I've been to and hundreds of bands I've seen, they were my favorite to watch live. Weiland was one of the most underrated front men in recent history.
Yeah? Underrated by whom?
"Core" is one of my most important records, ever
Still remains…. One of the great love songs, the lyrics are poetry…..
Greatest love song that doesn’t use the word “love” for sure.
The lyrics to that song are incredibly deep.
I have to agree. In Asheville nc the crowd loved stp opening for megadeath
As soon as you mentioned Cleveland in Scott Weiland's backstory, I knew I was going to have to buckle up for some real deep, dark shit.
😂😂😂 what's that mean?? I'm from Cleveland! It's a great old blue collar city!
Haters. When he said “bands felt they were an overnight success and didn’t work as hard as they did” it screamed HATERS!
What they were doing musically was a lot different than the other bands. Very Beatle-esque
I hate to be this person but I’m gonna be .. the Big Three
Alice In Chains,
Pearl Jam
Nirvana.
Thank you for your service. :)
@@HildeAzul yeah. Those three are also the big three. Depends on your click. But yeah. You're right
@@HildeAzul STP instead of Pearl Jam they’re good but they aren’t in the 3 maybe even Soundgarden but not Pearl Jam
That's my favorite album too. I love the jazz elements
The band was good as ever, but still miss Scott.
always loved his voice and their music is still great even today
I still cry. Needless death. Rest in Power sweet darling man...... truly missed
He was genuinely handsome when he was young.
My favorite band from the 90's..Robert and Dean are insane musicians..and Scott ( imo ) is the greatest frontman of all time..they saud if you seen them live and didn't like them that they'd win you over with their live shows..I never got to see them.. 😢
Rest easy, Scott aka Melody Man
Core came out while was in high school. A kid sitting next to me was singing Dead and Bloated and I was like "WTF are you singing" and I haven't looked back. I just ordered Purple on vinyl after watching this. Great video.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
This just goes to shows that critics' options mean nothing, and individuals can, and should, make up their own minds about what they like. ❤
Thanks for this one! STP has so many fans.
You’re welcome! One of my favourite bands
Yet they usually fly under the radar, it’s strange
It's really painful since losing Scott. But the love is still there. Always will be.
One thing about Scott that made him so unique was that as STP grew and changed, so did Scott’s voice. It was like music adaptation
Rick Beato posted a fantastic interview with STP bassist Robert DeLeo recently. Highly recommended.
It was really a fantastic interview. He’s so chill and talented.
He was really gracious about Scott too which was endearing
Yeah that was good!
His bass parts are very good and he is a skillful player
One of the best, if not the best documentary out there in TH-cam on these guys, STP, loved them so much then and still now. RIP Scott WEILAND. Hope you are living the life you always wanted. His voice was golden. ❤
I was a BIG BIG fan from the get go in early 1992… I never really considered them “grunge” they sorta had their own vibe. Epic band only regret never seeing them live.
Scott, Layne Staley, Chris Cornel, Chester Benington, Kurt Cobain. Pretty crazy.
Rest easy Scott✌️ one of the last true rock stars
I saw STP in 2008 and it was the best concert ive been to. Scott Weiland gave an amazing performance and the sound the band was so clear and crisp. So grateful to have seen them even though i was in the throws myself at the time.
i love when musicians wait until after the record is finished to go to rehab. Richard Patrick of Filter waited until after they finished Title of Record to go to rehab and that album is fuckin killer. RIP to Scott. super sad story. i've been clean from H. and all other hard drugs for 10 and a half years, myself
Trippin on a hole in a paper heart.... my fave. Interstate love song, creep. So many good songs. Seen them once in Nashville. RIP Svott Weiland
Yes! The best song ever!!!!
Trippen on a Hole- I get a Janes Addiction vibe on that one. Fine tune. I only heard STP on the radio over the years, now I’m appreciating all the great songs they created. Riff City!
Saw them in 96! With Cheap Trick opening for them. One of the best concerts I've seen!
Same! In Portland, ME. I loved the acoustic set they did in the middle of the show, with this little lounge set coming down from the ceiling.
@@aperturius Yep! Great set! Awesome show!
One of my favorite bands growing up. My mom was a big fan so I got to listen to their cds in the basement or on car rides. Great memories!
Big Empty is one of my favorite songs ever
STP was the first band I ever saw live. Amazing show
I went to see STP recently with Jeff Gutt on vocals when they came to Costa Rica and the show was really really good. They mostly played songs off Core, Purple and Tiny Music, which is a shame since their record from 2018 has some good rockers in it. Their last album is very good too, if you enjoy acoustic mellow music.
Yeah saw them in February in New Zealand. They were awesome!
Last two albums have some great songs
I loved stp from the moment my ears were blessed to hear them. They have so many bangers, they made amazing music together. Addiction is such a b*stard. Steals so much talent from humanity. Grateful I was alive to hear them.
Awesome video man, thanx. One can never get enough of these 90s-bands videos..
Thanks
Man, drugs has taken sooo many great musicians from us as time goes by. Great classic tunes that affected millions. You can't take that away from them
I tried to hate these guys and couldn't.
No need to put other bands down to boost STP up. All were great, all can BE great at the same time.
I didn't. I personally believe STP were better.@@jt9800
Hi hill
One of the purest rockbands of alltime!
Way back in August '94; friend of my brother's kept calling our house, looking for my brother; after HOURS of NOT being able to 'locate'; I was given the option to pay for the ticket (brother hadn't paid yet) for the STP show in Massachusetts (we lived in NH); EXCELLENT SHOW
You did a great job on this episode.
Thanks! We have some really cool stuff coming up!
RIP Scott... Your pain is mine.
My favorite band from the 90's and Tiny Music is my go to🤘
Teresa. ?
I use to listen to all those bands! The 90s was my decade! The 90s was the best 10years for music! And for me! I had everything in the 90s! The best jobs the best women! I had money to spend! The best friends, the best vacations! The best apartment! Everything was great in the 90s! I went to the both woodstocks! I saw all the best bands live! I knew once 2000s came! It will never be the same!
One of my favorite bands!! Saw them in the 90's and will be seeing them at Welcome to Rockville in May 2024
Love STP one of my favorite of all time 😊.
Scott, on stage with his megaphone and dance moves was a thing of beauty. He was in his element.
I’m surprised that there was no mention of “Army of Anyone”, which was essentially STP with the singer from Filter.
Loved the whole Crow soundtrack and also contains one of my fave STP tracks .
Saw them when Purple came out. Think it was 95 or 96. They were fuckin unreal. I've seen pink Floyd in 94. STP best concert I've ever seen.
Same. I saw them in Austin back in 2011 and still sounded the same if not better.
@6:35 I met them in Chicago in 2000 and they were the nicest people all around. They took that quote to heart.
Me and my bro's fave band to jam to as teens. 🙌🏾🎸
Core was constantly in my cd player in highschool. That album is a beast. 🤘
Wow i didnt know how rocky their career and lifes were scott is in my top 3 favorite singers in that era
This is tremendous. Thank you. Soooo much to tell about icons like Weiland & Staley. And both their bands just so incredibly talented & underappreciated here in sh*tty 2023.
Heh sh*tty indeed. All there is now is lame music like Byonce and Lady Googoo. Can't stand music today. Rock truly is dead.
He lived so much longer than I ever thought he would . Rip. I didn’t think he would get outta the 90s .
Damn perfect timing! Ive been on a Scott Weiland binge!
Almost 35 years later this is still a top 5 band for me.
Look at his EYES during the Big Bang Baby video. That says everything about Scott Weiland that you need to know. He was on drugs for decades at a time. RIP Scott. But having the band fronted by some other dude singing his songs for nostalgia dollars is B.S.
I saw Scott with Velvet Revolver and I’m grateful I did. He was an amazing performer.
I am a huge STP fan. I've seen them play 4 or 5 times. The last time was right when he relapsed for the last time. Sadly it was one of his best performances. Some front men just aren't the same sober.
Eris
Have a place in ❤for them. Maybe cuz theyre part of my younger daze in CA and i respect the power they brought. I love this bio!Plush and Interstate Love Song are as beautiful as any 90's music by Sinead, Dylan, REM Grant Lee Bflo, etc .
Dead and bloated is always on the radio here in northeast Tennessee
Interesting! Can you go more in-depth with this comment??
STP was the band that raised me, I loved their album and have always felt their music helped me get thru hard times.
Went to see them, but they didn’t show because I think the lead singer by that time was too far gone into his bad habits. Wish I could have seen them live at least once. 😢
RIP Scott, one of my favorite lead singers. ❤
Best band of the 90s. Hands down. 4 great albums in that decade. Hardly a grunge band. Hard rock band that had more experimental and laid back stuff to offer than so called grunge.
Then his solo Album fr 98.
"12 Bar Blues" was good
1999's "No.4?" My 3rd fav album by STP
Sadly he was last seen at a bar/restaurant down the street from me the night he passed away on his tour bus.
Such a talent. So much talent in the 90’s when i was young.
Una de las mejores voces .grscias por tu legado. One the best voices .thanks
Love Rick Beato. Gotta find Robert. Thank you for the post.
Yeah great interview that one
I saw STP before the 97 Hiatus they still performed awesomely
I saw STP when Core came out. They opened for Megadeth and the entire show was fantastic. The only show I saw that topped it was Ozzy/Alice in Chains/Motorhead.
