Three Days Grace with Adam Gontier? I know Him. Our Lady Peace? I met them. The drummers Grandmother was a pt of mine. Saw then 4 times. Saw The Cure 10 times.
Nina (along with Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries) had one of most distinctive voices of the 90's. You couldn't mistake her with any other singer, absolutely effortless and full of grace.
Yes! Everyone forgets that album. Honestly it's probably top 10 or 15 albums of the 90's. The album is really underappreciated and seemingly largely forgotten it seems as there are now a couple of these "Hey, you guys remember the Cardigans? Did they ever do anything after Lovefool?" video's up on YT now.
they're actually still doing gigs and i think they've found the perfect balance in their lives - they have the cash to live and still doing shows whenever they feel like - and they sound AMAZING
I´m from Ecuador, one time I saw two guys having a fist fight in the middle of the street, out of their cars, under a bright sun, they were insulting each other and punching each other while "lovefool" sounded loud through the car´s speakers. I´ll never forget that, it was so cinematic. It happened many many many years ago.
Favorite best song on it was Couldn’t care Less. There wasn’t a bad song! That was their masterpiece album. But good luck affording the best recordings of it: OG vinyl (2003) and the SACD (you haven’t lived until you heard it in surround sound). Four digits used on eBay all day everyday.
I truly found the Cardigans with Gran Turismo (I had heard Lovefool, of course). I fell deeply in love with that entire album. It was dark, moody and catchy. Really interesting guitar work, electronics + Nina’s voice just made such an interesting album. One of my favorites of all time. I really wish they were more well-known. They deserved it.
I remember running into her once in Athens, Georgia, and she was, oddly enough, with Billy Corgan, and they asked me for a light. I did not smoke so I was unable to help them. Still, it was surreal - when someone taps you in the shoulder and says “hey man, got a light?“ And you turn around and you see those two faces it’s just weird.
Long Gone Before Daylight is from start to finish one of the best albums ever. There's so much depth, soulfulness and richness to it. It's like a warm blanket that I have to listen to start to finish every time I put it on.
Fantastic album. Kind of sorry for the band to be reduced to the two big hit singles very often. All their albums have something and they changed their style always a little.
This band is AMAZING! I saw them when "Lovefool" took off and I always loved them as a Indie/Euro band. If you only know them for "Lovefool" then they were only a one hit wonder but they are so much more than that. The album "Life" always puts me in a better mood after I listen to it, definitely check it out, it's an easy listen.

Yep, got me throught the 00s along with all their other albums. One of my all-time favorite albums ever, you can listen from the first song to the last without a pause. But all other albums are super as well.
Sometime after 'Love Fool' came out, I remember an interview with Nina where she was asked for what must have the millionth time, 'How did the band get together?' Her response was, 'The record company found us at a modeling agency.' 😂
MTV: "yeah sorry Cardigans but we can't air your new music video, it's too controversial and might be a bad influence on the youth. Besides, we need the air-time to show more reruns of Beavis & Butthead."
I was 12 in 1995 and have loved this band ever since I first heard them all those years ago. Love that you also mentioned The Sneaker Pimps… they are also still in the rotation since I first stumbled upon them in my youth. Thank you for the story!😊
I love listening to the Cardigans. Takes you down a 90’s nostalgia trip. I more recently came across one of their songs called “For What it’s Worth”. Great song! Awesome rhythm and vocals.
Persson seems to be a very genuine woman. All of her quotes are no nonsense and a little self deprecating in its humor. I like her and always liked the band. Time to download some Cardigans. Great vid.
Learned a ton about from this video about The Cardigans....biggest thing is that MTV refused to air the main release from "my favorite game" because it was too edgy! Like "WHAT?!?!?!?" MTV in that day and age played some wild stuff and had even more edgy videos! As in, they refused to play the video because she was driving with one hand. WTF????? Was it because MTV's music interest lied in them being a pop band instead of an indy band? This truly blew my mind. MTV seemed never one to censor bands and artist back then. I really need to know the "behind the music" on this subject with MTV and The Cardigans. Great video.
Except that the sugar sweet "Kiss me" doesn't find redemption in a second part as the story continues and ends. "I don't know what you're looking for. You haven't found it baby that's for sure". (Favorite Game)
I wish you had spent more time talking about Long Gone Before Daylight, it's absolutely their best album and one of my top 3 favorite albums of all time.
Thx for that nice docu! 😊 Such a great, underrated band. And so much more than Lovefool, especially Gran Turismo. For me, they are the Blondie of the 90s. ✌️🎶😎
The song Erase / Rewind is such an underrated song. God, I love everything about that track, and imo Nina was extremely pretty back in the day, hell most women were prettier during the late 90s early 20s.
@@IvanoForgione Yea they did this festival gig in Malmö, Sweden, in July, and I think they had one or a couple more shows planned, but no major tours as of now at least.
I've visited their gig once (in 2013). It was a strange feeling like in church. I can't describe it. The performance was so great and with cozy atmosphere.
A Camp is the solo side project of Nina Persson, vocalist for the Swedish indie pop band The Cardigans, her husband, composer Nathan Larson, and former Atomic Swing guitarist Niclas Frisk. Persson formed A Camp when The Cardigans took a break after several years of touring and the recording of their 1998 album Gran Turismo. A Camp recorded and released two albums, in 2001 and 2009, after which the project has been inactive
The year was 1996. I was excited to meet them behind the club during their tour with Beck. As a group was leaving the bus, Beck stepped off in front of me and said "hi" and I said, "you're not the Cardigans!" and we shook hands. I did not meet them but great show from both.
I was into punk music mostly at the time but they were giving their single for lovefool out as a casette tape with some other track on the B side at the record store and ended up really liking it. It was pretty late for a cassette tape thnking back, but it was a clever way to promote the band giving it out for free!
Long Gone Before Daylight and Super Extra Gravity is my favorite phase of The Cardigans. I was smitten by the very first track, "Communication." I wish those albums were recognized more. There were so many brilliant songs on each of them. "Live and Learn" is one of my favorite songs of any group ever.
The Cardigans are legends. Would love to see them play the UK with the full band lineup. Erase/Rewind, Iron Man, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, I need some fine wine… , Feathers and down.
sincerely love their discography, but Long Gone Before Daylight was SUCH a big album - just GORGEOUS. it's a shame they won't be making new music, but they've been touring again, so THAT'S something...! also, their side projects are really great, from soundtracks Nina has done with her husband, Nathan Larson, her band, A Camp, Magnus' solo Righteous Boy and latest outing, and "Brothers of End" from Lars & Bengt, three albums of GOLD. def look 'em up!
This man couldn't end the video soon enough. Didn't show nearly the respect the songwriting of the last two albums deserves. If you're into American Country as a music genre I highly recommend them both!
Carnival is definitely my all time favorite’s tune of The Cardigans. Tore Johansson also played the big part of their recording album (except for Long Gone Before Daylight)
You TOTALLY overlooked that “My Favourite Game” was the title song for Gran Turismo 2 for the original Playstation. The popularity of the game and song drove the Cardigan’s success to new heights. It was similar to how The Prodigy became universally popular due to their hit song, Firestarter in the WipeOut XL PS1 game.
My Favourite Game will forever be linked with Gran Turismo 2 for a lot of people, me included and it's my number 1 driving song. Absolutely love it. As well as I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need To Be Nicer...very underrated track
