#Kosmic #Mario #SMB1 - เกม
basically everything here is insane but as someone whos dabbled a very small amount in smb1 romhack stuff seeing just even the shape of the terrain is bizarre knowing how that works in the original
Let us celebrate the comeback of Romhack Wednesdays!!!
Amen!!!🙏 We pray
I came here to celebrate good times
P-speed animations in SMB1 is such a surreal thing to see
We need to make them a bit diagonal
This is one of the craziest rom hacks ive seen in a while
This is like if Super Mario Bros. got modernised or something with new complete levels
How kind of you to rescue that Koopa from bouncing forever.
20:21 You are correct. In Lost Levels, for right-side-up piranha plants, green vs. red is determined by the world number. They're also the same enemy ID, so you couldn't even manually place them both in the same level. And what's more, the red piranhas work by modifying the code of the green piranha plants, so even if you could somehow place a red piranha plant in a level that has green piranha plants, it would change all the piranha plants in that level to red.
The upside-down piranha plants are a different sprite, and they're always red, so in theory you could get upside-down red plants and right-side-up green plants in the same level… if you changed the criteria for when piranha plants are red (or the level-loading code), since the code for the upside-down plants is only loaded when you get to world 5 or start the letter worlds (that's one of the things loaded during the loading screen, along with level data and the code for the wind effect), and those worlds all use red piranha plants. (Maybe if you used a glitch to load worlds 1, 2, or 3 while the worlds 5-8 or A-D file was loaded, but I think then you'd still need to have not played a level that has red plants since you started the game.)
Of course, if you were making a romhack, there are probably ways to modify the code itself to get around these restrictions.
Looks like the coin animation is different from vanilla too. They appear to be spinning.
This is absurd. It feels like a dream. At this point it might be easier to just make a game from the ground up and just copy the physics - and i know what you would say: "where's the fun in that?"
It's one of those hacks that makes you look at the original and think "Is this an actual game I'm playing"
Oooo, the underground parallax BG is very clever. You can see that it's simply redrawing the tile depending on your X position.
"At seven is when you have pee" -- Kosmic
This is crazy cool, and unlike Celeste Mario, actually looks like a Mario game
That's a cool romhack. Very glad to see the series return.
2:42 400 kick, baby! Wait... 😆
These romhacks never cease to impress!
We need to appreciate the fact romhack Wednesday is back! Also hope a video about 4:53 being secretly possible happens soon!
It's possible on the SNES version.
This one definitely deserves two parts
19:55 missed the opportunity to try 2 at once making that sound.
Recommendation for a Romhack Wednesday: Panic at the Mario Disco. It's a short one, but really, really cool. Though you might need to mute the game on the final stage just in case TH-cam gets uppity.
Either way, please keep this series going. It's some of my favorite stuff of yours!
Romhack Wednesday is back?! I’m so happy!!
Imagine trying to speedrun this that'd be one wild speedrun!
Imagine if a hack like Extra Mario Bros could scroll to the left.
you can try Celeste Mario's speed & Dash
@@linglin92
I did. I'm not much good at it.
I was missing a lot this series... Thanks a ton for returning with it!!
funny thing is you can still damage clip. i did it on accident lol
Thanks for bringing these back. Discovered your channels a few months back and watched most of the older ones!
Glad these are backed, definitely noticed the absence and missed them!
Наконец-то вернулись ромхаки по средам
It's been a while! Glad to see Romhack Wednesday back in action!
I am in love with this hack with all the features this adds. Imagine making levels with this rom! I would so make stuff with this!
What a cool hack to come back to rom hack Wednesday on!
The most impressive thing about this hack is it looks and performs better than Mario 3.
Never have I seen a worse opinion
@@shyguy85 I've said a lot of things that I might expect such a comment, but this wasn't one of them. Is it that you think something else is more impressive about this hack? Or that it doesn't perform as well as Mario 3?
@@brianarsuaga5008 that it looks better than Mario 3. That's just sinful man, Mario 1 is terrible when compared to Mario 3's graphics. I do enjoy it's simplicity but Mario 3 is much better at portraying what was in the official artwork for the game
@@shyguy85this isn't mario 1
the hack killed the blue lava but gave us red water in return, truly a blessing
I love romhack Wednesday vids!
man this looks super fun! Also lets hear it for romhack Wednesdays return!
Rom hack wednesday is back baby
Brilliant to gave these back!
Is there a secret of you swim under the 4-1 castle?
this looks like an smb3 hack with smb1 graphics & sounds imported. if it actually is in the smb1 framework i'll be pleasantly surprised
Was waiting for him to try grabbing a fire flower as small Mario and see if he gets big or becomes fire Mario…
If you bring koopas, can you despawn a flag?
Wooo! Romhack Wednesday!
Nice! I *really* missed Wednesday romhack!
woooo it's so cool to have romhack wednesdays again!
What a return! What a hack!
Happy to have you bake kosmic always glad to see another adventure
Awesome video. Hacks like this really are inspiring for the community, as they demonstrate a new thing and foster interest in new works being made with those new things. Love that. Rare type of contribution and a great video. I don't know if i missed it, but can you do standard shell jumps against a wall?
I think this might be a Mario 3 romhack disguised as a Mario 1 romhack 🫣
I love RomHack Wednesday!
YAY romhack wednesday!! I was worried you ran out of SMB romhacks
Lots of respect to the creator(s) of this hack!
This is amazing
Every good rom-hack must have the 8k
This is the most impressive SMB1 romhack I've ever seen
I am anxiously awaiting part 2.
Pretty cool romhack. Crazy how many 1Ups it gives out tho.
In this game the 1-Up mushrooms are more devalued that the moons on super mario odyssey
I love how it is. Maybe I'll will play it with on my own home
They made the superstar give shell points rather than fireflower points! ❤
Yay!!! Rom Hack Weds is my favorite!!!!
A maker-like mario on real hardware. Very impressive!
this seems like a rom hack of mario 3 more than 1 with stuff like the P-speed, the different physics and P-switches
@@poleve5409 smb3 is also an NES game though
And here I thought Rhorleitung Gate was the most technically impressive hack of this game. Then I saw this and Celeste Mario.
I was thinking you might be able to cheese 2-2 by jumping out of the water and running to the end.
Hi Kosmic, have you ever played Mario Forever (free Windows game developed by Buziol)?
This was awesome!
He’s baaaaaack!!!
You know, I remember the days when we needed to root around in level data and cause arbitrary code execution just to play a custom level. So glad we don't need to do that now
15:33 that was CLEAN
Awesome!
someone should just take the changes in this game and apply them to vanilla smb1, it would probably be a far more enjoyable experience
@@poleve5409I think they meant to port the mechanics of the hack (picking up shells, the P-Meter, etc.) into vanilla SMB1. In other words, have the new mechanics to replay the original levels with them. In practice, it'd be easier to reimplement the OG levels into the hack, but you get the idea.
amazing!
literally the best 3 rom hacks of smb1 are (in order of my opinion)
1. Super Mario Freedom
2. Super Ale Bros
3. Super Mario Ultimate
Holy cow
11:44 I just noticed the lifes count is randomly changing
He got a 1-up from the flagpole, and collected another in an 18-second gap that wasn't included in the TH-cam video. You can see the whole thing on the Twitch VOD.
hold koopa shell while under 1 block gap
I’ve missed romhack Wednesday
cool they had the background scrolling on the castle levels, but why not on the normal levels?
I made the title screen for this hack
Star swimming in lava!
Part 2 is never coming, is it?
Hi there, that was cool! I have a question, there was a game I played back around 1989 - 1990 ish, it was in similar style as Double Dragon II or at least the gameplay was fighting and moving forward, I only remember small stuff, I believe there were male and female characters to choose and play with but not sure, I also remember that you could use some special attacks and some cool higher quality graphics (better than gameplay) would pop up on the power up and attacks then switch back to regular play graphics. My siblings can't recall the game, I do not know the name but I know we played it a lot. Anyone have any idea which game this might be? Thank you!
Wish they didn’t change physics tho
Wonder if this runs on original hardware
Sorry i’m only 5 minutes into the video but I’m wondering if you can shell jump with these “patches” or whatnot. I’d also love to see the code for this hack or just a breakdown on how these are even made and coded.
@21:46, 1337 coins!
They probably just modded SMB1 to make this.
Umm.... The mushroom gives you the opportunity to double jump if you grab it in mid air?
That’s called a power-up jump. If you’re not pressing anything at all when a power-up hits you or you fall onto one, and then *during* the power-up animation you press and hold A, Mario will buffer a jump. Do this mid-air and you’ll do what looks like a double jump. It’s a glitch that’s in the original game too.
SMB2J
you forgot the 2 level secret zone:(
Where is you? Where are romhack Weds?
Does this ROM hack work on real hardware, tho?
what has been going on in the rom hacking scene lately? and how is this even possible?
Where can I download this mod?
Check the link in the description, i have a spreadsheet with links to every hack ips patch
This doesnt fit on original hardwear does it?
This video is on original hardware :)
@@Kosmicd12 The creator of this hack is insane.
its a hack of smb3, i think
edit: nah maybe not
at least feels like smb3 logic much
edit: maybe more

Mario 1 if it was good
Please play Super Mario Celeste next time (If you haven't)

Part 2: th-cam.com/video/qRHsHWDTyzg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6KJ8VbTt4OggBjm9
Can you really play this on the NES?
@@poleve5409 that’s so cool!
@@melley420 This vid is played on NES :)
If this was possible on the NES, why did we get SMB1 as it was?
They didn’t entirely know how to optimize their games as well as they could with later NES games
Sharopolis has a great video where he shows how impressive SMB1 was/is. I haven't checked, but I'm pretty certain this hack has to use either MMC3 or 5. While impressive (very impressive), you can't really compare SMB1 (which had no mapper support whatsoever when it released - meaning it was running exclusively under the limits of the NES hardware) to either this hack or its later brother SMB3 (which used the MMC4 on its cartridge).
Think of it this way: Star Fox for the SNES is an incredible achievement, but it'd be unfair to compare its 3D environments to, say, F-Zero's faux 3D racing, when one has the power of the SuperFX, and the other is running on pure SNES Super Power™.
tl;dr
SMB1 was the best it could be, without any extra help. SMB1 didn't have the luxury that SMB3, as well as impressive hacks of SMB1 like this one, have in special chips (mappers) that enhance the NES beyond its initial limits, and wouldn't be possible without that, just like the more well known SuperFX games that would've been impossible on just the SNES hardware. Bottom line: they're all impressive in their own way.
they didnt have 256 kb prg rom + 256 kb chr rom and bankswitching and battery saves in 1985
