    Part of settling down in a new country is figuring out all the different systems and the hurdles you need to jump. Just like the IRS! We had no clue that Richard needed to fix taxes until he needed to file taxes, even though he has never worked a day of his life in USA. So... off to the IRS we go to try and figure this all out.
    Also an update on Richard's work situation! It's not looking good but we have some answers and some direction!

    It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me
    At tea time, everybody agrees
    I'll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
    It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero
    Looking forward to seeing you all over on the podcast channel soon!

    Be patient brother! I worked for the government and they get in zero hurry when it comes to pushing thru paperwork. Best of luck!

      Thanks Charlie. Just one of those things I guess. And no point in getting upset about because then no one wants to help.

    Hang in there Richard and Lindy, nothing comes easy. Plant your feet firmly and roll with the punches. Meanwhile prayers can only help. Hugs.,.

    Listen, I'm serous. You need to take everything you've learned form the start when you were still in SA till now and may a special playlist that is very clean cut and precise as to what you guys were told, prepared for and what actually is required. Basically, a 10 things to know before emigrating to the US. That playlist will not only help a LOT of people but get others that have gone through this before to hopely jump on and give more tips

    I would check with a tax expert on this, but me and my wife went through exactly the same thing. If she files married filing jointly you guys get a bigger standard deductible than if she files separately.

    • @nardovanvuuren
      @nardovanvuuren ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At least once you get your ITIN, you can use it every year afterwards until you get your own social.

    • @RichardBauer_
      @RichardBauer_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the plan to file jointly or whatever you call it. Everyone we spoke to recommended TurboTax which is what we used but couldn't file electronically due to me not having my ITIN. So thats the next thing to resolve once we go back to IRS.

    • @nardovanvuuren
      @nardovanvuuren ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RichardBauer_ At least after you get the ITIN its very easy with turbo tax

      Me and my wife have been here just over 4 years, and we are finally on the last stages of our Green Cards. She will be getting a work permit in the next few months. Its such an annoying process!!!

    Hi there, thank you for your channel and sharing your experiences. We are in the process of trying to emigrate and appreciate learning from your experience. I would like to know what you would recommend is a good amount for your first month in America, set up costs of food, car, accomodation, Sim cards or any other costs you think are important when you just arrive there. Would appreciate it. Thanks!

    • @RichardBauer_
      @RichardBauer_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s such a difficult answer because it all depends on where you live in USA. We bringing out a video soon on our apartment and what it costs and then can do a breakdown video of what it cost to get set up as well. It also depends on your standard of living. Car can be brand new or second hand.
      But I would say for your first month, and spending $10k on a vehicle, you need about $20k just to get started
