  • The Haunting of Hill House was the first Suntup numbered I ever unboxed. This unboxing is very near and dear to my heart and the book is flat-out amazing. This edition would skyrocket in value. It was also the last Suntup edition in the 185 copy print run.

    Beautiful edition, Jeff. What else? I received and immediately sold the toothless Folio Society edition. Very disappointing.

      OUCH! I didn’t see that edition in any detail. I just wasn’t interested after the Suntup and Centipede editions (though I don’t own the Centipede Press edition) there’s nothing left to be said. That book has seen its potential realized.

    I love the materials on this book but I think my definitive edition is the Centipede Press version. The artwork and bonus material really sold me on it. I loved my folio copy but it doesn’t really stand up to the Suntup and Centipede versions. I wish I could fuse the Suntup and Centipede versions to create the perfect copy haha

      Yeah it's a trade off, or at least a matter of taste. I don't have the CP edition to compare, but I think the Suntup edition, with the understated, gothic, art and one lonely window on the front board, captures the tone of the novel in a more harmonious way than the CP edition. I LOVE Matt Mahurin's style, but it's a touch too manic got the overall isolation of the novel. Of course, I would LOVE to own the CP edition. My preference for Suntup's doesn't negate my appreciation for what Jerad has accomplished with his edition. If I didn't have the Suntup edition I would have bought the CP for sure. And I agree--it looks like Folio's would be a distant third.

      @@THEJEFFWORD Well put, the Suntup edition’s biding is perfect for Hill House. I can’t choose between the two ultimately so both it is haha. I love Folio Society when it comes to their editions of The Godfather and The Handmaid’s Tale. However, I’ve been feeling increasingly let down with their newer releases.

    That is a fine looking book. I ordered the Artists edition of horns because there were no other editions left. I saw the movie of it a few years ago and thought it was pretty decent.
    Anyway, thanks for a great video.👍

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Did you also preorder the artist edition of Rosemary's Baby? Paul just announced the print run (it's a low one of only 500) and revealed the dust jacket art. shop.suntup.press/products/rosemarys-baby-by-ira-levin-artist-gift-edition

      I'm getting Horns too. It'll be the first Joe Hill book I'll read. I'm really looking forward to it.

    i ordered horns but wondering of the binding alot are sewn but folio society seems the best made books i bought ill know when i get horns

      I can't speak to the quality of the Folio Society stuff (I was going to get their edition of The Shining but then I didn't) but Suntup's quality is superior to almost everything else I own. And by almost I mean not almost--it's better than anything I own. And collectors who have been collecting much longer than I have and are selling books I could only dream of owning all say that Suntup is the top of the heap. If you go to the Suntup site, Paul usually goes into detail about the binding. For example, Hill House is a sewn binding and Horns is described as "a Bradel binding with Japanese cloth boards, and a genuine snakeskin spine. Endpapers are Hahnemühle Bugra, and the edition is printed letterpress on Mohawk Superfine paper. It is housed in a custom two-piece die-cut enclosure, covered in Japanese cloth."
      I wouldn't worry about quality.
      Also, keep an eye out, Paul is about to announce Suntup's next book on January 16th. People are guess that it'll be Rosemary's Baby.

    Have you seen the Centipede Press edition of Hill House??

    • @THEJEFFWORD
      @THEJEFFWORD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Gerlach I’ve seen the info on their site and it looks gorgeous. Centipede Press always produces exceptional editions. I passed on the Centipede edition because it was more expensive and I also wanted to get a Suntup number to hold onto.

    • @richardgerlach515

      jeffingoff that makes sense. I want a Suntup book but they sell out so fast.

    • @THEJEFFWORD
      @THEJEFFWORD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardgerlach515 Yeah they do. And that's why I jumped on Hill House when it was announced. I figured it would sell out quickly and getting a numbered Suntup means that I'm able to order before the general public. Which is what I did when I ordered the numbered edition of Horns. I ordered two days before the general public presale window was opened.
      If you want a Suntup edition, the Artist Gift Edition of Horns is still available. It's signed by Joe Hill, contains a new introduction by Joe Hill, it's inexpensive, and Suntup is only printing 1000. I also ordered the Artist Gift Edition. I already own the Suntup Artist Gift Edition of Misery and it is a fantastic, high quality production.

    • @richardgerlach515
      @richardgerlach515 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jeffingoff does the artist gift edition include the main book? Or is it just the illustrations?

    • @THEJEFFWORD
      @THEJEFFWORD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardgerlach515 I think you're referring to Artist portfolios. Those are just folders or cases that contain prints of artwork without the novels. I don't usually buy artist portfolios. What I'm referring to in my earlier reply is the level of limitation that contains the combined novel and artwork.
      Suntup publishes books in three states:
      1. the Artist Gift Edition is the lowest price and it's typically signed by the artist who works on the edition. This edition has the highest print run
      2. the Numbered edition--more expensive than the AGE, signed by the author and the artist with a much smaller print run than the AGE
      3. the Lettered edition--signed by the author and the artist and made with the highest quality materials. Limited to 26 copies (one for each letter of the alphabet.
      All three editions contain the novel as well as new artwork.
