THE JEFF WORD
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 พ.ค. 2014
Hi, and welcome to the Jeff Word Book Show. I love books and talking. One day I had an "episode" and I was talking to myself nonstop about books and I accidentally left a camera on and I filmed it and that's how the channel started.
I love thic books. Horror books. I mostly unbox the treasures I buy from small press publishers like Suntup and SST and Centipede as well as shelf candy from 19th Edition.
Often, the books I show are out of print. This channel is the only chance for many people to see these insanely wonderful books--though only a few do. Still, I'm like a saint, only better--without all the moralizing and fiery judgment.
I'm thinking of being a beauty and lifestyle influencer so I can get my subscriber count up. I don't know. Watch now while it's still about the books. Is this extortion? That's for the courts to decide. Subscribe today and prevent this from escalating.

The Girl on the Porch by Richard Chizmar | Book Review
ZERO STARS
Sometimes it's important to read something that's not going to clog your silly brain all up with thoughts! We think enough during the day! WHY on EARTH would we torture ourselves with more thinkin' in our freetime. Get The Girl on the Porch by Richard "I don't give a fuck about my readers" Chizmar and enjoy the braincation (that's a vacation from your brain. Doesn't make sense? Doesn't matter! SST is one of the best in the publishing world. NO TWO WAYS about it. Black Mad Wheel is the latest in a long line of incredible editions. Night of the Long Knives by Tyler Jones | ARC unboxing and Book Review
มุมมอง 13328 วันที่ผ่านมา
I don't like doing book review videos. Because I don't want to reveal details readers should experience on their own. The only thing you need to know is what I thought about it. And that's usually summed up real nice in the stars I give it. That means book review videos should only be 5-10 seconds. I make them longer because I fill them with "I really like this one!" and "[BLANK] is SUCH a good...

Still waiting on mine!
Really? Sometimes it takes an insanely long time but it always shows up.
I was getting a "Where's Waldo?" vibe from that outfit :)
hahahaha Freddy is rolling in his grave!
Word up!
Onwords!
When the review is better than the book :)
I need to read more Chizmar so I can leave honest reviews.
I shaved my buttocks and had quite a lot of bloody nicks. Then I sat in a bowl of vodka and read the book. It made reading it less painful.
Atleast if you run outta toilet roll, you got that for back up.
Great point! It isn't a waste after all.
I mean im sold
I have a copy for sale.
I'm waiting for the Suntup letterpress edition.
Signed by King.
i need a book like that. it's the perfect size to level my kitchen table. Ill just put it under that one wobbly leg.
Yep, other books just throw everything off balance.
I've never heard of an "AUTHOR" like this who is rightfully despised! Awesome.
He's the best of the worst.
Swan Song ……
AMAZING novel.
I watched this on Netflix and I regret watching it. I wanted to read the book first and thereafter nothing is good enough😢. Can someone please recommend a book just like this one?
I'd read Insomnia or They Say a Girl Died Here Once if I were you. Both are also by Sarah Pinborough. In fact, there's an Easter egg for Behind Her Eyes in Insomnia.
@@THEJEFFWORD woow added to my list 💃☺️
I agree with you that this is a stunning sleeper of a title. I can’t believe any are still available. I own a bunch of Suntup titles, including some numbered states, and this is already one of my absolute faves!
I'd love to get the numbered of this title!
Nice copy
I'm thrilled.
Thanks for the heads up! I have a stack of loved paperbacks that I will have to get signed. Only a 3 hour drive for me to the Booksmith. Cheers!
I'll see you there. It's about 2.5 for me. 2 if I defy the laws of man and physics.
Score!
Thanks!
I got exactly the same hardcover just last month! First edition, but not quite as good condition as yours. Looking forward to reading it.
There are some great finds on eBay for McCammon. It's criminal.
Word up!
Everybody Scully!
Good vid. I’ve never read Kin so I’m looking forward to it. Of course there just about 53 ahead of it on the TBR pile.
The damn TBR is a real cockblocker!
I was thrilled when this one arrived. I like KPB's work - both his writing and his artwork - and the Suntup Guests CE is a long-time favourite. I haven't read Kin yet, but Im looking forward to reading the CE and appreciating more KPB artwork.
I almost bid on the CD lettered edition of Kin on eBay but it was a CD auction and I just can't send them money. But I like the novel so much, it was a struggle.
KIN is a great read. Burke is a great writer. Jeff has a great channel.
Phil is a great dude!
It took me months to decide on ordering this book. With how Kin is generally regarded, myself wanting to try Burke, and with what was said by you and others on the livestreams, I pulled the trigger. If you’re going to sample an author, why not read a beautiful edition? Besides, if I end up hating it, it's not the book's fault and I can gift it to someone who would value the craftsmanship.
And reading a beautiful edition actually does boost enjoyment of the story--as shallow as that it is, it does.
That's exactly why I freak out when the Pauls and Jerad do my favorite stories. Also, I feel only the most-deserving authors should've these wonderful editions. What Tyler did with the 50-limited set is sort of a hybrid. If I was in the publishing business, I would start by doing/redoing books by Tyler Jones and Philip Fracassi. I'm glad for Mitch's newest passion for chapbooks. Could he eventually expand and turn into one that does books, or is he going to remain the best chapbook publisher?
Jeff Word totally rocks!
I'm so out of shape I also roll.
Ordered my own copy of the Ronald Malfi from Broken Binding after your video.
That book isn't easy to find on their site. I keep checking to see if it's sold out and every time I have to use the search function on their main site to get it. They don't even have a search field on their special editions site. Not user friendly. But the books are!
So Sub Press is publishing Jump Tribe? It's not on their site. I saw something somewhere about it but looked over it. In my mind I lumped it in with the Abarat books (cover seemed similar (brain's dumb at times)), which I doubt I'll ever get to. But after seeing your video and seeing what it actually is, I'm more intrigued. I collect odd children's books and that would fit in. Like you I never knew anything about the early versions, or the toys.
Ah well this book fits your collection perfectly. I'd snag one of the toys on eBay if I were you. It seems they're affordable.
Word!
UP!
I just started reading Malfi, 4 books in now and am in awe of how good he is. I am just amazed he has escaped my attention this long.
Really?? That's awesome! I think I'm in the same camp as you are. Mitch has been pushing me for so long and I'm sure he's right.
Stellar unboxing!
THANK YOU!
I’m down with the redness.
It's got stopping power!
I love this edition. I brought it with me when I saw Mr Malfi at Merrimac Valley Halloween Book Festival, also picked up a nice signed copy of Small Town Horror. I also enjoyed December Park, Night Parade, Little Girls and Come with Me. Still many more to read.
I'm so jealous that you get to go there every year. I want to make it just once!
I've read several Malfi books, and the only one that was kinda a miss for me was "Little Girls." Recently finished "Night Parade," and it was excellent.
I've heard so many great things about his stuff. I'm itching to get into Small Town Horror.
This is Bitchin
I saw something about this, thought it was an email newsletter but guess it could have been a FB post, now can't find it.
The first I heard about this was Brian's post on Patreon. Never heard of this book before.
BFJ is the man! So is Jeff!
I had to check, but yes I'm a man! BJF is a SAINT!
Was nice you were one of the first 20 to answer. Some of us aren't near our phones constantly! Congrats!
I'm usually not. Sometimes I'm lucky.
Nice I got one yesterday.
It's a cool little book. And I'll take anything new from Clive.
For horror fans still young at heart.
Start 'em early!
love the sweater, dude.
The Dude abides that comment.
Thank you for introducing me with Suntup. They are truly amazing. Just a shame that even the artist editions which I would like to buy are sold out quickly. Then on the second market they to expensive for me
Yeah I don't buy off the secondary, BUT there have been deals lately on certain titles. On others, yeah they get out of reach quickly. My advice to you is to be ready when the books go live. Tomorrow, the new release will be announced at 9am Pacific. Sign up for the newsletter and you'll be informed the moment ordering opens. OR just be at the site right on the dot and you'll be able to order. The artist/classic editions don't sell out that fast. You should have a few hours (in some cases days, and in others, they're still available on the website).
The quirks don't bother me, the pacing didn't bother me. What bugs me the most is this masturbatory, self-referential, meta-ness in the beginning. Maine has literally nothing to do with the plot or premise. The protagonist could have been from Alaska or Tennessee or one of the Dakotas and it would not have mattered in the slightest. It felt like Maine was in the story for the sole purpose of revisiting Derry. Oh look, King is referencing one of his books in one of his books. Oh look, a character I've heard of from one of his books, talking about one of the things that happened in one of his books. The Harry Dunning plot could have happened anywhere. When it happens in Derry, it just feels like King's jerking himself off all over again. Oh look, the narrator said "Beep, beep Ritchie" AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!! Who gives af? I LOVE the premise of this book, but I hate the narrator's cringey jokes and nonsense, the fourth wall breaking [in novel's character's never go potty, but *this* is real life] and I hate the fan service of going back to Derry, revisiting Bev and the gang. It's all so transparent
Excellent point. As a longtime King reader, you just get used to him staying in his Maine bubble. Makes one wonder if he has any clue what's going on in the rest of the country. But the whole vibe of King writing for King was overwhelming in this one. I don't understand the cult following this book gets, but the self-indulgent stuff was too much for me.
i love when people tell other people what they meant to say lol
It's fun. And it's more fun when you explain what you meant to say and they still argue with you.
@@THEJEFFWORD I’m learning that explaining things to morons is a waste of time And makes me feel like the moron
Great show, Jeff!
That means a lot coming from you
Think the word you were looking for was ephemera. About the Rapture chapbook case, can't believe no one brought it up, but what about it being shaped like a keg, or a six pack? Something like that. I know it can be done I've seen oddly shaped DVD cases and they're similar in shape. Bet PMK would know exactly how to do it. If a keg, the round space along the sides could have shelves for collectable shot glasses, and I know you have a couple of those. I'm basically thinking of a standard slipcase inside of a barrel or keg with space for other ephemera. If Mitch hasn't already thought of doing little extras I'm sure some would be along eventually.
That case would be amazing! A deluxe lettered case. I worry for my shelf space, but I'd love to see it.
Word!
UP!
This is one of my dream books, the numbered is amazing but I want that lettered so badly haha
It's a book I never would have own--or even held--if Paul didn't gift me that PC copy. It's stunning.
I still need to pick up both of the Spanish paperbacks
Yeah I can't get them all. I just can't. But I'm sure I could find them . . .
Third 😂 STAY FROSTY! 😝
Ice cold!
Second!! Lmao
Ka is a wheel and it comes around!
FIRST

Great show tonight!
THANK YOU!
