Heck my 5 year old loves Rick’s music. Not only are we Rick rolled often, but we know the deep cuts like Together Forever, It Would Take a Strong, Strong Man and Cry for Help.
You're kidding, right? He didn't sing much of the song - took the lazy singers way out and held the microphone out to the audience. And the interruptions and talking were infuriating.

Probably - at least in part - because he did not just start out singing trying to be a frontman, he started out singing in a choir. And in a choir, if it's any good, you learn things like you warm up your voice gradually first before trying to outsing a church (or a crowd). (ETA: Incidentally, Bruce Springsteen mentioned somewhere that he doesn't have any proper vocal training but that that's exactly the reason why he will often come out on stage before the concert actually begins and sing just with an accoustic guitar for the people who have been waiting there for hours. If you do a workout, you stretch first. You do the same with your voice.)

It took him a lot of years to get to Glastonbury, but once he got there he gave two of the greatest sets ever performed there. His own set was brilliant, but his set with the Blossoms singing the Smith's songs went into the stratosphere. Legend, indeed.
Rick Astley is STILL an incredible performer and vocalist. BUT what I love the most about seeing him perform this song, is how he makes it all about the fans. He's clearly there to serve his audience and help them have a good time. He's a legend.
This is unironically awesome. A lot of '80s singers struggle to re-create their heyday voice. But OMG Rick Astley actually sings *even better* than he did back in the day. Not to mention a real tight backing band. If he ever takes his act to the USA, I'm totally going.
I like how the crowd are so open-minded. He's an incredible singer and performer. First time I heard him since the 80s. He could even start some indie band or indie cover band. He respects his musicians too and were top class too.

This is one the legendary moments in music history! Rick sounded amazing and his interaction with the crowd and the band is great. Love the dancing security guards. And loved it very much when he gave the band members their own solos and time to shine. What an amazing performance all in all! And this show probably wouldn't have happened at all if it wasn't for the song becoming a meme. Once again, the power of internet!
I miss the 80's and early 90's really bad. This singer deserves full praise for making one of the most iconic feel good happy songs to rely upon. Thank you Rick.
Rick is one of the REAL singers who likes to get remembered for his good performances and not any scandals. He is still in good shape and not a wreck like many other artists nowadays who consumed drugs for many years. People who like to hate on him, don´t know anything about singing. He is a good singer and sadly good artists are not allowed to performon live for at least 30 minutes at Glastonbury. It´s a shame 😭
I agree. Saddens me to see once handsome/ attractive stars waste away from drug use. George Michael was one such person. Absolutely gorgeous, with a voice to match, but he had a hard personal life and became addicted. Died at 53 from heart failure-Sad. 😢
@@desertrose1226 Yes, he suffered the loss of the love of his life and his beloved mom. I guess taking drugs was an escape for his mental pain. But drugs are always the way into the false direction cause they take the natural personaliity of the drrug consumer away.
If people don't like him they probably just don't like pop, or that particular era he came up in. Personally i consider that the silver age of pop (next to the golden age of Sinatra etc), but it's down to personal taste. I can understand why someone like Bill Hicks wasn't a fan. But regardless of the style is to one's taste, Rick's talent is undeniable.
If anything, it makes me want to appreciate Rick even more due to his determination to defeat his heroin (or was it cocaine?) use and to dedicate the rest of his life to entertaining the world.
I'm more of a metal/punk guy but I love the positive vibes and energy Astley gives in this performance. Sometimes you just need that kind of music and I got this the older I got (was "that guy" that shat on pop music in high school).
Yeah I'm in the same boat as you to be honest. I'll still be a Metalhead first and foremost until the day I die but as time has gone by my 'Death to all but Metal' attitude has mostly evaporated. Ultimately, good music is good music regardless of genre!
That was an absolute joy! What a lovely, humble man. And blimey, can he sing! If I didn’t know the origins of that song I’d say he was a 70s soul singer. Thanks Rick - you’re a true artist and a lovely human!
Pete Waterman signed Rick after seeing him perform with a local band in the north of England and had him work as an assistant in the studio, supposedly to help him learn about the business and overcome his shyness. I find it hard to believe that Pete would bring this guy over and hang around, and not have his two partners hear his voice. But, they eventually did listen, and decided they needed to do something with him.
Usually I use to listen to hardrock or metal, but Rick Astley is an absolute groovin' and funky musician. Like his songs since the 80's. So, never give up Rick and keep on rocking !! The bassman is playin' like hell !!!
I also listen to a lot of different stuff: Rock. Metal. I even have a favorite K-Pop group. I’ve loved Rick since he broke through in America, and see him in concert whenever he comes to town, especially since I missed his early shows here. He really is a fine performer, and seems to be a genuinely nice guy. I think that getting off the showbiz carousel helped him in the long run because he got to spend quality time with his family, and it gave him a good perspective when the opportunity to re-enter the business presented itself.
It's crazy to think there was a time he refused to keep performing this song. This song's timeless and I'm glad he embraced how much everyone loved it and that we knew he had other hits in his catalogue.

Amazing how this song is 35 years old yet its fantastic seeing the younger kids singing the words even ❤😮
Heck my 5 year old loves Rick’s music. Not only are we Rick rolled often, but we know the deep cuts like Together Forever, It Would Take a Strong, Strong Man and Cry for Help.
@@andysorensen1737Tell your 5 five year old his music taste is amazing and also together forever is such a good song.
This is the song that put Rick Astley on the map throughout the world! They’re still playing it in the clubs today, after 36 years!
What a class act. That was amazing! Introducing the entire band, thanking the security, venue and dancers.. this man is impossible not to love!
This is Rick Ashley’s greatest live performance of his iconic hit. He nails it here at Glasto. Love how security got involved in this performance.
You're kidding, right? He didn't sing much of the song - took the lazy singers way out and held the microphone out to the audience. And the interruptions and talking were infuriating.

If they use their real own voice, mind you, and not some sort of voicebox. Refrase, they all use voicebox or some sort...All of them. P.S. I meant singers from your generation, not Rick's voice. Cheers, take care.

It's so wonderful to see people of all ages singing this song. And Rick's voice still sounds great as ever!
Anybody who doesn’t find joy in that great performance has no soul. What a performer he is - professional, humble, talented. Who’d have imagined 36 years ago that this song would be a highlight of Glasto in 2023.

His voice has matured so well. I think if he re-recorded this as a single celebrating an anniversary, it could trend again.
“You’ve been gorgeous, I’ve been Rick Astley” he’s a treasure ❤️
I'm glad that Rick in his 50s is embracing his talent and musical back-catalogue. Such an amazing artist!!
Just seen a vid not too long ago of him playing the drums, while singing and playing the guitar..... Super talented artist.
I mean, in fact, he still looks 22 or something enviable like that! On ya, Rick, well done!
Damn he looks amazing for being in his 50s. Talk about aging great, vocally and physically
An actual artist that acknowledges his band, you can tell that he really just love MUSIC.
This man is a pur legend. Embrassed the dark pass of its own and turned it into light. He could denial all of this if he would stay on his bad feeling.
The lead playing "sweet child" at the end even though rick banned him from playing it was the cherry on top for this performance. What a blast! 😂❤
That was genius and so subtle.

Rick Astley has been 21 years old since 1987
And still he is, until he's 100 y/o
This is unironically awesome. A lot of '80s singers struggle to re-create their heyday voice. But OMG Rick Astley actually sings *even better* than he did back in the day. Not to mention a real tight backing band. If he ever takes his act to the USA, I'm totally going.
me too....
World record for most amount of people rick rolled in seconds.
I like how the crowd are so open-minded. He's an incredible singer and performer. First time I heard him since the 80s. He could even start some indie band or indie cover band. He respects his musicians too and were top class too.
Like The Smiths?
I think he started in a post-punk-ish band actually
Superb performance by Mr Astley and a flash of inspiration having all the security guards primed for their very own performance. Loved it!
I loved that part with the security guards!

I’ve only seen him in a meme but it turned out he has a humble, energetic, glowing personality 🥹🥹🥹what a star to be willing to share so much stage time with the band❤❤❤
It's kinda heartwarming how this song sneakily became the GOAT of 80's pop music.
Omfg, what a performance, what a bassist, what a crowd, this is awesome! Thanks for rick roll us since 1987 Rick Astley!!!

Rick Astley is an absolute legend. Great singer and lovely human being.
@@boofert.washington2499 Hating won´t change your negative personality.
He won Glastonbury 2023. Life is the funniest thing.
His voice is so well preserved.

Legend has it he was the tea boy or some sort of junior office assistant at SAW until they heard him sing!
@@kimchi_bHe recorded this when he was 21.
Rick didn’t let his guitarist play Sweet child o mine then he plays it a little at the end 😂 Perfectly orchestrated performance
One of favorites😊
Unbelievable vocals, so much respect for this guy as a performer
his acapella was gold.
If you listen to metal. Definitely you can listen to other genres. Especially Rick Astley. 🤘
