    Ian, another fascinating video. For all aspiring bass players your content is essential watching and learning!. I play in local covers bands, so very far removed from your level, shows and stages but you've got me thinking about being a better musician and band mate. I also find your content very entertaining (the preformance snippets, your gear, very detailed gear breakdown and usage, your actual playing, your extremely desirable bass tone, professional pragmatism, etc)
    I've many questions 😂.

    • @iankingbass
      @iankingbass  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi BassClefCity, thanks very much, really glad you found it useful! I often find myself in situations where I’ll need to play very quietly (as well as loudly at other moments) so I tend to avoid compressors because they bring up the quieter notes/sounds as much as they bring down the peaks. It’s very much a personal thing, and compressors work brilliantly for a lot of people, but for me right now, I’m making do without. The Caveman is incred, I love it, it just makes everything thicker and juicier!

    Man your playing is so even on those isolated samples. I love these breakdowns- fascinating for an amateur like me to see a pro at work. I had the BBP34 as well and for some insane reason sold it- it was the most reliable and easy playing bass i ever had. The original pickups were a bit lifeless as I remember it but i should have just put nordstrands in.
    Also have the SLB300 upright which is lovely. I think the only difference between the standard and the pro is that the pro has a much nicer flamed maple neck, more expensive tuners and thicker wire on the bridge but the chambering and pickup system is identical. I looked at both and decided to save a few $.
    Your pedal board is very clever- the work of a real pro- look forward to the more detailed video!

    Just found your channel Ian -and very happy to have done so! Absolutely fantastic playing; perfect blend of solid groove and unbelievable chops! 👌Playing at this level do you ever stress over having just the 1 five string on stage -incase of malfunction? Hi Rob, thanks for that, very kind of you to say! I know what you mean re. the 5-string, and I always change the 9-volt battery out before a gig like this. But overall, I know that I’ve got the passive 4-string to use if anything goes wrong with the 5-string. That 3 Leaf pedal is great actually, and while v expensive, I think I’ll always be pleased I got hold of it. I’m going to do another video featuring my smaller board soon, and I even wondered whether a video on putting together a more affordable rig would be useful to bass players.
