You are sooo passionate about everything you are doing. Nothing but positivity. You are an important person in the bass world. And a hell of a pass player as well. Enjoy the tour.
Love you, dude. You do so much for the bass community in such a nice way. Without you and Scott I‘d miss so much encouragement, you really made my basslife a lot better. Pretty sure, I am not the only one.
Sir ! You are a living, breathing bass legend ! Love your sound and work approach. I have (as I'm sure many others have too) have learned so much from your work. Many thanks !!!
I dig it all. I played guitar in bar/event bands for over twenty years and switched to bass out of necessity and found SBL and you which is very helpful. What I’m trying to do is get 40 years of playing experience in a short time to be an effective bass player and you all help with that. I’ve purchased a number of big pieces of gear because you have to get a hold of it somehow (guitar stores carry no inventory these days) just to experience the gear and spend time with it. Fellow Minnesotan !!
Would love to see Ian do a longer length breakdown on using the HX Stomp and how he goes about building sounds and orchestrating/managing it. E.g. flipping between snapshots and presets etc
That would be awesome. I have got the presets that I like. And they are in groups. But sequencing for a set list/group of tunes is still a mystery to me.
I came here to say thanks to Ian for his Helix presets. I’ve been trying to get the DI tone in HX Stomp for months, but Ian’s Ultimate DI just works, and 100% matches the sound I was looking for. I’m happy af
Mr Allison, you are such an inspiring bass player/musician. Your talent, genuine passion for all things bass and music overall, is wonderful to see. Try to never lose that, sir, it serves you well…
Thanks Ian. More of these please! Stoked to see this drop in my feed. Discovered you via TH-cam and you pretty much just answered every question I’ve had about you as a musician.
I love watching you and Scott together. You’re both incredible musicians and your chemistry is great. Educational and entertaining. Oh, and that girl, Sharon, I think? She’s a perfect addition to your team. She’s also impressively talented.
Mate, I’m so impressed with the sounds you always manage to get with the Stomp ! I played with the Helix for 4 years and ended up ditching it for the QC because I just couldn’t get more than ok tones out of it.
Ian I clicked like on every video that has you in it and I thank you for all you have done to improve my bass playing skills. You are the tone Master when it comes to bass effects pedals and I encourage you to expand on that. I took an oath of poverty when I decided to dedicate myself to the bass so I don’t know if I will ever be able to afford the HX but I do buy the occasional effect pedal and you have made suggestions as to the order in which they should be connected. Thanks for that. Please let me know more about what pedals sound good in what order. I have seen suggestions elsewhere and you blow them away with your knowledge and understanding of the functionality of pedals. The pedals made for bass sound better than the guitar pedals and there’s where you can get rich in the industry we live for 😊

Great to get an update on your Rig and sounds. I have to try the Super Polished Strings!
Thanks for the tour, Ian! That Noble head is ridiculous. Overall, super cool rig and I'm definitely checking out those strings. I'm an HX Stomp XL guy for my bass rig, and maaan...it does SO MUCH and makes life so easy. If they'd just get a good position-6 model from the Digitech Bass Synth Wah pedal, it'd be basically my entire rig.
@@jimmyhartmanbass La Bella Super Polished, they've hit general availability now, they had been limited numbers only through their roadie club. I've been debating trying them but of course Ian is already using them and taunting me :P
Thanks lan, l love to see other peoples' approach to gear choice & implementation, especially when they've invested something of themselves in it. Well as to other peeps gear, l would certainly be interested in Scott's & Shaz's as all three of you cover different areas / styles of music.
I love Ian's tone shaping skillz. He's got a buffet of fun, creative, musical and usable tones going on. And that Noble head has me all sorts of green with envy. I love my Noble DI and would pony up for a head in a heartbeat. Ian... I'd be super interested in those strings. I play mostly flats in the projects I'm in and every now and again, rounds are the better way to go but years of flats have left my technique playing rounds a bit more on the noisier side than I'd like. I'd order multiple sets of those in 4 and 5 string flavors if there's any way for a rube in the wilds of Oregon to get my hands on some.
I have that Wireless, it’s the best wireless, as a stomp box and the tuner is the best ever! You can drop to anything you want it picks it ALL up! That neck is absolutely gorgeous!!
I love this and this is exactly the type of rig that I'm looking to setup for live. Sidenote: I did a Fox spotlight during American Idol with Eric back in like 2008. Awesome artist.
Love it Ian. Couple of questions, 1 - Do you change compressor settings at all during the gig for different songs, or is it set it and forget it?; 2 - Do you use the B side at all on the CAPO?
I always love watching Ian he’s always so happy and cheerful. I do have a question though about the di box pedal thing. Do you need one if you already have a bass amp at home? Or is it mostly used for a live setup? New to playing bass. Coming from playing guitar. Love you guys cheers.
Fantastic stuff! You're an inspiration! Is that Noble not a tube amp (surprising)? Those strings seem perfect for me. I never would think of putting non Jazz Bass pickups on a JB, but those ones sound really good!
God what a hell of a bassist. I've stolen more riffs and techniques from this man than he will ever know. Awesome bass rundown! Was this recorded at The Fine Line in Minneapolis?
Love to see Rob Walkers rig setup, bass player for The Main Squeeze. Love the Lull, got to play a few in the showroom and even get a glimpse of one of the IMAs being sent to a lucky customer!
Thank you Ian, it is always great to see you do stuff with all the passion that you have for the instrument. Can you do a Linkin Park Dave Farrell bass rig rundown, I don't anyone has done that yet. Even thought they are one of the most influential and loved bands in the last 20 years.
Is the Noble Transistor? Cause I had a thunderfunk the same weight. I searched around for a eden 550 (older model) got one but needed caps. Super quiet now. I am sort of happy with transisters as they are a little more meaty to me. I have to check out those strings. Love the bass. Let me say it again. Love that bass.
Would love to know your Cali76 basic settings. Nothing worse than too much compression. It makes me shy away from using compression and let front of house use theirs for the master mix.
I have a #238 made Mike Lull Modern 4 string bass. Ash body, laminated quilted maple top, Lindy Fralin pick-ups, Bartolini pre-amp, maple/pau ferro fretboard. ❤
Hey, wonderfull presentation. Question: why the Cali? Cant the helix do compression? Thinking of buying a helix. Main reason is that i want to have different comp settings. Will that work with the helix?
Nice ! Would love to hear more about the Shure in-hear rig as well . Also your Cali 76 compression settings ? How different are they from playing live vs studio ? ❤️🙏🏻🎸
Mr. Allison, I have some question: do you run to the noble Amp from the Stomp? If that’s how you do it, then you separate the PA and Amp line or not? Do you send the Amp and Cab simulation to the Noble Amp, or you don’t use any Amp+Cab sim with the Stomp? Thank you. And thank you for all of the contents.
Very interesting! I'm curious whether you're running any amp sims on the HX Stomp? And why the amp? You go from the Stomp to the DI to FOH, why bother with the amp? It's cool, I get it, but still ;-) Thanks!
I have a question on using the HX Stomp live on a Pedalboard. I purchased the IMA-SignaturePack for my HX-Stomp and i really like the transparent tones. Do i have to turn the PreAmp-Block in the HX-Stomp OFF, if i use an MXR Bass PreAmp after the HX-Stomp to FOH? Or do i have to keep it ON for some color in the tone?
Thanx for getting us thinking &.Dreaming about how crappy our gear & hopes of stepping well not that bad but Loved all of it. That Bass is Friggin Sick also the Head is Badass thats how I like stuff Simple, light. But still Delivers, Thanx 4 Sharing Bro...
Hey Ian, so a pedal is something I certainly need for my own practice as a bassist. Currently, and I've mentioned this before but I run my bass through a guitar amp. My problem with that, when I practice slap for example, there's a lot of feedback and it sounds like an earthquake in a way. What pedals do you recommend for running a bass through a guitar amp, in order to cut out the rumbling? Would the HX Stomp help out with that? I don't even know how to plug a pedal in honestly
Hey Ian, Thanks for the insight! Just one question remains: What is the power section of this noble amp like? is it like an analog class a/b thing, or is it class d? i would rule out an all tube power stage cause of the weight you mentioned and the 1000watts rating on the front 😅 Thanks in advance for taking your time to answer :)
I'm really interested in the Super Polished strings when they come to market in the UK (can't find them available outside the US). I'm primarily a guitarist, but when I've gigged on bass previously I've used the La Bella Hard Rockin' Steels because my sweat is quite corrosive, kill nickels in no time at all (been using Elixir nano/opti-webs for all my guitars for the past 15+ years). I like the tone of the steel La Bella's but hate the feel, which is also quite aggressive in attacking my calluses.
Awesome run through. I'd love to try those strings too. Are they coated at all? Labella's feel almost glossy and there's way too much friction for me personally. Anyone else get that?😂
Was this filmed at the Fine Line? That stage looks super familiar! Also, a Noble amp into a Barefaced cab is the lightest and most drool-worthy rig I could think of!!!!

I second that! Totally. There's bits and pieces across SBL where Ian works his magic on the HX stomp, but in-depth sound scaping would be really nice.
I second that too! Ian's way with crafting sounds on the HX Stomp is second to none
I came here to say thanks to Ian for his Helix presets. I’ve been trying to get the DI tone in HX Stomp for months, but Ian’s Ultimate DI just works, and 100% matches the sound I was looking for. I’m happy af

Only one bass on a tour? Bold. Sick rig though. And I love the ICP "Magnets, how do they work?" shoutout.
This is one of the best breakdowns I’ve seen! Amazing tones and use of gear, great player! That band is lucky 😊

Would be awesome to actually have one of your performances (or at least a song or two) on SBL.

That Lull bass is absolutely gorgeous!
Have a great tour Ian
Idea: Take the “ XYZ Bass Crushed Everything” format and apply it to amps. SVT Crushes Everything, Mesa Crushes Everything, GK, Ashdown, Aguilar…
This comment is for all of you! You make me play my bass. Thanks. Great channel

Brilliantly explained as always Ian. Really worthwhile.

Awesome rig, looks awesome and sounds really damn cool as well (especially that rotary fuzz, that was unbelievable)
Absolutely love it!
