I said it on the other vid, and it's still true: For that price, it HAS to be better than the sur-ron. While a comparison between them is fine since they are in the same category, there's no question that at 3x the cost of the sur-ron, if this bike wasn't better it would be DOA. The question becomes, is it better to buy this and ride it as is or upgrade a sur-ron. Lots of peoples sur-rons end up costing 9K after they replace the battery, controller, forks, etc. That's the comparison I'd like to see. What's the value difference between a $9k, upgraded sur-ron and the Drill One, which one provides better value once you've built them up to the same price.
@caramelzappa Thanks for the note! That's just it, I said that they are the same category of bike but I did no actual comparison here. I agree that comparing a modified Sur Ron vs Drill One is a good metric and while I do plan on doing that in the future, this one is not a comparison video. It's a Q & A about the Drill One. AWESOME TUCKER 15K view's already! I've been talking with them(cz)for over a year now to get mine. Thanks for updates and giving me the opportunity to build wheels for you. Yes they are completely similar to the SR but so very different. The D1 actually fits a normal size adult unlike the SR's whitch kinda makes you look comical because looks like your riding a kids bike/pit bike. These hybrid midsized EV's witch use both MTB & MC parts are awesome! Has made a completely new segment to the MC market! This is the real only thing the two bikes have in common I think. One is a entry model and the other is a pure performance expert model. Each doing well what the company's designed intention was. SR`S stamped aluminum frame compared to the tubular aluminum D1 frame is the first of many BIG difference between the two.. Glad you got your hands on it and keep up the awesome work your doing 🤘

Put together at the factory. “Stock”
@@Beniamin6665 I got an ebike that cost about that. 6.5kwh and 30kw of power. Rokshock in the back and Manitou Dorado in the front with moto wheels. Might not look as streamline as a sur ron but will destroy any with whatever mods you can throw at it. The price is good because everything is cheaply made on it. Weak controller, shit suspension and it's really undersized for anyone 6 feet or above.
$15k in Australia 😡 I think those that will pay, and there will be, $9k USD / $15k AUD have more money than brains! Great review though! What will be interesting, which will last longer, we know anything Chinese made is NOT made to last, and the Czech do actually make good stuff!
I have original RevX (now it's called Drill One). 1. Sur Ron, Kuberg ect. looks like a toy compering to Drill One even after upgrades. 2. Top parts and technology used in Drill One makes the price!!! Its not a Chinese product. E.g. Only 2 fictionless bearings in the motor costs about 300-400$. 3. It's not true that on the highest mode battery will lasth for only 1 hour. The battery is enough for about 2-2,5 hours. 4. Perfect weight distribution 50/50% 5. Over 450Nm of torque on the wheel, so climbing on even steep hills is easy. 7. In my opinion the most beautiful frame in this class of vehicles.
For me, there are 3 huge drawbacks to this bike that make me prefer the Surron: - motor is exposed (I smashed mine on the Surron and yet, it had a bash plate, so can't even imagine riding this one), - the battery cannot be hot swapped, - it's ugly (but that's just my opinion), looks too raw.
I think we all know it was obvious you could spend 8k on a normal dirt bike. I’d take the 8 or whatever this bike costs and buy a sur ron and a crf250 or something
A conventional dirt bike weighs twice as much, doesn't come with a lifetime of fuel, but instead high maintenance costs. Something often overlooked when comparing prices ;)
great review dude, the comments on these two bikes are always entertaining. I had almost the exact same questions/comments on my review. pretty funny. keep up the great work.
@Hicks Family Adventures Thank you! Haha, definitely entertaining and passionate to say the least. Appreciate the note and you too. Hope to ride with you in Aus sometime!
competition is a good thing, surron needs to step up their game a bit and fix a couple issues with their bikes. having said that, I just ordered a surron and its going to arrive in april, i cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For everybody complaining that this bike is $9,500, go by a cheap Chinese e-bike or nothing at all. In my opinion 9K is more than a fair price. This is clearly a high quality piece of equipment with a ton of research and development behind it to get it to your front door all nicey nice so you can just jump on it and go play. This is not something that's stamped out on some giant multi billion dollar companies assembly line. These are essentially made to order and a very niche product. Just the battery technology alone in my opinion is worth it. This is a big boy toy for people with big boy money and clearly targeted towards people who want a high-end product..not for someone who typically stores their bikes in their parents' garage or outside in some dilapidated shed. Stop complaining and go out and make the money to where you can comfortablely afford one of these.. as there are lots of people out there that can and will...or find something better to do than complain about shit you'll never have..
@Goop Man You bring up some great points. An unfathomable amount of resources are required to develop any motorcycle and we are lucky to have small companies that take a huge risk to develop bikes that push the industry forward. I'd like to add that EVERY bike in 2021 is expensive. It doesn't matter if it's gas, electric or a straight up bicycle. I don't want to discredit $9K for being a small sum of money because it is indeed a lot of money but most new mountain bikes fall within this price range. Something to consider!
Too much money for only 5+ mph over Segway, and the range is very disappointing. But it would quick AF with 12-15 fewer lbs. Thanks for the Q & A Tucker
Looking forward to the review of the Evo version, wish they had an optional range extender pack under the seat. Keep up the great content. Sure a lot of sensitive Sur Ron fans out there. The CZEM is cheaper than a bunch of high end E-mtb and even some that don't have any assist, so I am sure there is enough of a market for this bike. I think I would choose it over the CAKE I just think it is great to see some options in this market segment. Be cool to see a comparison of the new Evo vs the modified XX.
I agree looks are a big part in peoples buying decision's this looks awesome, personally I don't like the look of the Cake but love the fact they made a street legal one you can plate would love to do this with the drill...
We have both Drill and Surron X, we gave both a 21 "wheel ..... Drill is much better in performance, the chassis is better, the brakes are also, and most importantly, it's bigger ... My son is 198 cm and can't fit Surron. When I switch to Drill, I feel like I'm enduring, unfortunately I'll have to sell Surron because I don't want to upgrade, it would be more expensive and it will still be small.
Sur-ron puts down big numbers and came in far cheaper than 9.3k+ tax , have bac8000 NXT display and the 72v litspeed pack/W Fisher Fab light came in alot less, can dial "everything" on the fly. If i had to choose again I'd save the money and do the minimal effort to updrage mainly the wait when dealing with Alan at ERT was only tiff . Would only buy the display from him if i build another
Just learned about the Kollter Banshee ebike. I would love to see a review if you can get your hands on one. I enjoy your channel. Always excellent content. Cheers and Thanks!
I like this guys videos and like the way he rips on a bike. I have a fully modified 2020 SRX and I can assure you my Fox suspension and Woody's Wheelworks 21/16 wheelset are far superior to the stock D1. Not sure about my EMB controller kit being faster but has to be close. With all the bar, tubeless, no. plates all around and other goodies(that both bikes require for HS racing) I'm into it for 8k. Add that SR has produced for 3 yrs. with no frame breaks to my knowledge, the D1 has a lot to prove before any real conclusions can be made. I wish this Czech company well, they're great folks. And it looks like a bashguard would require a redesign or it would already have one. But it'll be fun as heck to see what happens.
Biggest thing holding me back from grabbing an e dirt bike is the lack of a clutch. I rode dirt bikes for a couple years and I modulate power like crazy using the clutch because my right hand has some wrist issues - while I'm riding through rocks and getting kicked around, I have a much easier time modulating a lever in one direct than keeping my wrist twisted the right amount. Particularly considering the bike is electric and so I can't hear the engine (to get a better idea of where I am on the throttle position), a clutch lever would be amazing. I'm honestly really surprised that no manufacturers have added a left-side lever that cuts throttle power, essentially imitating how a clutch lever would function.
@Geddy V I hear you. Having a clutch would make all of these bikes better, especially when the going gets rough. It seems to be both a cost issue for the manufacturers and they want to allow both brakes to be up on the handlebars, another thing I am not a huge fan of. I would be in favor of a rear foot brake and a clutch up on the bars. Thanks for the note.
There is one, it’s a trials electric bike. I can’t recall the manufacture but they have a clutch type system mounted on the left bar on their electric bike just like a motorbike. Don’t ask me about the rear brake cause I can’t remember how they set this up. Do some research, you’ll find it.
anyone buying this over a surron and upgrading BAC and battery is absolutely raving mad. The quality of this bikes build is less than that of a surron and its almost triple the price!!! insane.
It's better than a stock Surron, but is it better than a Surron with 5k of upgrades, so that we compare two bikes in the same price range (fork, brakes, controller & battery)?
The Drill One is an amazing bike, that fact has should stand on its own. If all the short sided people who can't see that and want to bring up the cost difference are not addressing the typic at hand. Is the bike better or to say it in not a lame way is it a Suron killer. Well?
Keep up the honest reviews of the Ebikes. You were a big help to me when I pulled the trigger on my Sur-ron purchase, Nov 2020. Don't let those manufactures corrupt you.....!! For Real brotha.
The Sur Ron really started the mass produced electric dirt bike segment. Plus all the modding for capability and power that is being served by the aftermarket. When an obvious direct competitor comes out, it gets compared. Does anyone have any other mass produced commercially available dirt bikes to compare these two against? The KTM Freeride is also expensive, but a different segment because of it's power and build, and the price reflects that. Quite frankly, the market for a 1 hour race electric bike that costs almost $9000 doesn't sound like a broad market. The success of the Sur Ron has been it's low entry cost. Guys gripe about the suspension and MTB bits (yes, I do too, I own one) but these can be addressed along the way to upgrading. A fully trail modded Sur Ron would go for about $8000+ all in. Battery, controller, suspension, controls, drive upgrades including sprocket, primary chain drive, wheels and tires. Which one can guys afford as an entry point?

@@Beniamin6665 watching it again i wouldn't want this bike, i dont like how the battery can't be removed quick!! Sur ron is a great bike just needs a lot of parts changing to make it feel better! I have owned my sur ron 2 and a bit years now and was hoping all the parts would be cheap but it seems there's a lot of company's hear in uk just trying to get rich from selling parts!! If your a clever business man you would sell cheaper and get a million customers! They should be getting cheap but now seem to getting more expensive! Its heading into a Motorcross life style, made for the rich only as always, people will give up and make there own for way less money
Looks really cool. Definitely a beast. To rich for my blood though, id rather use the extra cash to buy a 2nd sur ron and upgrade both pretty nice for friends, and family to ride.
Compared to the Sur Ron are the “ergonomics” any better.? The stock Sur Ron is a little cramped for me, I’m working on pro tapper bars (sold out right now), and possibly other mods to make it a bit less cramped. I just got my Sur Ron X, and I really like it! Does the Drill have better fenders? Basically does the Drill eliminate the standard mods you outline in your videos needed on Sur Ron ( tires, brakes, fenders, bars, bar mount, etc.)?
If putting ur money down on one of these type of bikes... would you buy one of these? Or the suron x at half the price? ... also is the range of the suron x better?
This is an awesome bike, but Id still have to go with the Sur Ron. Entry price is so much less and you can upgrade as your budget allows. Also, if I did get the Drill bike I’d still want to spend more money on it to make mods/upgrades that suite my riding 😂🤣
I’m looking into the different wheel setups for this bike. I’m about 5 foot 8 170 pounds what would be a good fit for me? The marathon with the 26 inch downhill looks nice but I’m wondering if the trail 19 would be better ? The enduro has the 21 front 19 back. So many options with not a lot of description.
Love the channel. I’d like to see this bike compared against either a SurRon that’s been heavily modified or something in its price class like the Cake, Kuberg, or KTM.
I would buy the drill one right now, if the range was considerably greater and the charge time a lot shorter. Let's wait and see what the drill 2 or 3 looks and acts like. 9500.00 bucks sounds a little steep to me as well.
Think they missed the mark on the battery placement and lack of motor protection, if they would've moved the down tube to the norma position and put battery between top tube and down tube, it would be protected and give some mounts for a bash guard.
You forgot about the Kuberg Freeride with a 14kw controller and 30mah battery. You may ask Kuberg California to get one for testing. It's cheaper than the Czem and looks really close to it.
I think a comparison video of this bike to a Cake would make a very interesting video since they are at similar price points and are a little juicy than the Sur Ron X. In my opinion, they're both overly expensive for what they offer compared to Sur Ron anyway but still would like to see the comparison between them!
I bought a 2021 Sur Ron and just sold it because to get it up to what I would want was going to be another 4K to 5K and I was not willing to do that. If I am going to go that high for a bike it would be the Zero. I know it a couple thousand more but it's it that 10K range. I would also take the $5K upgraded Sur Ron over this bike because it would last longer on a charge and go farther on a charge.
I sold my Sur Ron for pretty much the same reasons. One other thing about modding the Sur Ron is that not only would the bike be heavier, but it still would not hold up to hard riding. I've yet to see a electric dirt bike (other than the Alta Redshift) that is built to take the punishment of dirt bike riding. That includes the Zero and the KTM. These electric bikes are built with mountain bike components, which won't last long if subjected to big jumps, hard acceleration and braking, etc. If you're looking for something with the durability of a good dirt bike, you're going to increase the weight substantially when you start adding more robust parts ... and then you're looking at an expensive electric dirt bike. I think most people in this segment want something much lighter, but they don't understand the performance/durability trade off. If you're not going to hit big jumps, if you don't need quick and aggressive throttle response, if you're not going to take the bike off road much, then the Sur Ron is okay for that sort of thing. But beyond that, it not a bike that will hold up if subjected to more aggressive riding.
@Neal Peters Thanks for the question. They are 2 very different bikes. The EM Escape is more of a trials bike with street legal options. It's very good in slow, technical terrain. The motor feels like it builds power a bit more linear and especially if your friend has the clutch (R) model, it is great for hard enduro and trials riding. The Drill One is more at home going a bit faster and would be better suited for single track and flow trail type riding.
@@ElectricCycleRider Thanks & yeah he doesn't have the R model. He wanted it but none in stock so he bought the other. He switched it to a digital clutch and didn't like that so it's back to a regen lever for today. Would be great to see a test on the UBCO FRX1 as it falls into the same category. I like the looks of the CZEM but the power cutoff is very concerning, had that on Oset 20.0 it cut out at the worst times.
I admittedly like this more than a suron but the price is just non justifiable. I'd buy one of those sondor metacycles and put knobby's on it and could probably retrofit it with high end suspension and still come in under the drill one.

I want someone to make a Drill or Sur Ron with a dirt bike geometry, suspension, wheels/tires, and a battery pack that takes the weight up to 190 lbs., an electric motor with 50hp, and 6 controlled throttle curve mapping options that mimic a 230cc, 250cc, 300cc, 350cc, 390cc, and 450cc four strokes... The Drill and Sur Ron are awesome electric bikes but I don’t think they have the right geometry for motocross or off road trail riding to compete with adult dirt bikes and would fatigue the rider. At 190 lbs it would be interesting to know how much battery 🔋 and range could be crammed into a dirt bike geometry and still be substantially lighter than traditional gas bikes.

Top speed on drill one is 55 at $9,000
A new controller and battery for sur ron is rounded
Up to 2,500 which adds up to $6,000+

I have original RevX (now it's called Drill One).
1. Sur Ron, Kuberg ect. looks like a toy compering to Drill One even after upgrades.
2. Top parts and technology used in Drill One makes the price!!! Its not a Chinese product.
E.g. Only 2 fictionless bearings in the motor costs about 300-400$.
3. It's not true that on the highest mode battery will lasth for only 1 hour.
The battery is enough for about 2-2,5 hours.
4. Perfect weight distribution 50/50%
5. Over 450Nm of torque on the wheel, so climbing on even steep hills is easy.
7. In my opinion the most beautiful frame in this class of vehicles.
For me, there are 3 huge drawbacks to this bike that make me prefer the Surron:
- motor is exposed (I smashed mine on the Surron and yet, it had a bash plate, so can't even imagine riding this one),
- the battery cannot be hot swapped,
- it's ugly (but that's just my opinion), looks too raw.
interesting bike, not cheap, not a lot of range, and for that price you can get a conventional dirt bike
I’m on the same page as you
..obviously..
But they're obviously 2 very different things
I think we all know it was obvious you could spend 8k on a normal dirt bike. I’d take the 8 or whatever this bike costs and buy a sur ron and a crf250 or something
Way too expensive. Price is too steep, will stick with Sur Ron.
A conventional dirt bike weighs twice as much, doesn't come with a lifetime of fuel, but instead high maintenance costs. Something often overlooked when comparing prices ;)
YES! Ive been watching a lot of your vids recently cuz im interested in e-bikes, and I wondered if you´d post another vid about the Drill One! :)

@1Lifeonearth Absolutely! It's great to have options. It's only going to push the industry forward.

We have both Drill and Surron X, we gave both a 21 "wheel ..... Drill is much better in performance, the chassis is better, the brakes are also, and most importantly, it's bigger ...
@Steve Arrowood Thanks for the note Steve!
Thanks for sharing! Another question - what is the seat height, and wheelbase? How does it compare in size to the Sur Ron?

This thing is WAY better looking than a sur ron. Honestly, between these bikes I would just opt for a kuberg freerider with the 14kw controller.
I’d love to see a preview of the Torp motors bike they are developing, to include Controller for the Sur Ron.
So, given 10k to blow, would you buy 2 surrons or one drill?
I think the Sur-Ron is still a good value with all considered. Esthetics and performance considered. If you have $$ to burn go fur it.
@Earnie Absolutely. The Sur Ron is a great value.
I really want this bike just wish the price would drop a little looks so nice

@Josh Jorgensen I think the 26" MTB wheel is downright scary on this bike. a 19" moto wheel with moto tire is a much better way to go in my opinion.
I liked when compared the ktm freeride. There like the only ones other than this new 9k one.
Love the channel. I’d like to see this bike compared against either a SurRon that’s been heavily modified or something in its price class like the Cake, Kuberg, or KTM.
@Mobb Genius TV Thanks for the note, I plan on doing that in the near future.
Hey Tucker... Quick question... Will the charger plug into a standard US outlet or will it require a Euro setup? I am a serious buyer and wondering.
@Mobb Electric It's a standard US plug! 👍
I would buy the drill one right now, if the range was considerably greater and the charge time a lot shorter.
Let's wait and see what the drill 2 or 3 looks and acts like. 9500.00 bucks sounds a little steep to me as well.
@Gordon Deitz (godog) That's a fair assessment. Range/Charge Time/Price will hopefully be improved over time.

My friend just bought a 2121 EM Escape. It was the same price as this Drill. How would it compare? I've seen your test on the EM bikes
