I bought my 2002 CRV very early, só it’s Japan built. Have 195,000 miles on it and even though I just bought a 2023 Lexus Gx460, I’m keeping it as a second car back up for the family. It’s such a dependable vehicle.
Just bought my ultra clean 06 Honda CR-V. It's been kept like new inside and out by previous owner. Looking forward to picking it up in a few days. I will be checking everything as I intend to take it on its maiden off-road camping trip.
I bought my 04 crv 5 speed manual AWD 133k miles for THREE GRAND all original parts and the car was sitting for some time I’m third owner. I love this car so much Iv rebuilt the entire front end suspension and brand new clutch kit this car has never failed me other than the a/c compressor..😅 spent lots of money on they unfortunately BUT IS DRIVEABLE I found a perfect size built that runs without the a/c and keep it handy juuuust in case because I’m traumatized now. Other than that not problems whatsoever
I bought a 2003 CR-V in 2022. It had exactly 239,000 miles on it when I took ownership. I have had to do regular maintenance, and replace a few things, like an alternator, a radiator fan, VTEC solenoid gasket, but that's normal for any vehicle to need parts replaced. I don't use A/C in cars anyway, so who cares? And what did I pay for it? $3,000 cash. Talk to me in 5 years.
Excellent vehicle I had my crv 2nd generation for 8 years. I bought it 2nd hand it was 10 when I got it. It's probably the oldest car I've had but there was no major mechanical issues. We just recently upgraded to the newer model but I strongly recommend the mark 2.
I've had my 2003 crv almost 2 years drove it from 176000 to well over 220000 miles and still going strong all wheel drive and the rarer 5 speed at that
These things rule. I had an 02 and miss the lack of intervention nannies, it would do axis spins on snow/ice whereas our 2012 steps in and halts the fun. 🤙🏼🍻💯
I have 2005 CRV all wheel drive which I bought in 2008 from Honda dealership. It has 210,00 KM on it and still drives great. It has a remote start, I never had AC problem in 15 yrs and ice cooling in no time. Heating also works great. Besides periodic maintenance I never had any break down or major repairs. I want to buy a new SUV but they are very expensive to finance and I am also retiring in two three years.
If every one of all the old and new generations was in the store with the same price, i would go with the 2 generation cr-v manual gearbox every time. They are much better than the newer ones in my opinion. I bought one of them from a guy who didn't care about maintaining it. Engine still works like new. im currently doing the clutch on it. was easier than i thought it would be and is actually the first time i have ever done that on a car. and the AC is not needed that much because the climate in my area is not really that hot most of the year. Don't be too scared of the miles, most important is its condition and you don't wnat to buy it if it has alot of rust
I just bought a 2005 EX with 4WD in the same redondo red color as yours. Mine is a standard transmission though! It has just over 200k miles on it and I love it!
Just purchased an '05 EX with 5sp manual transmission and AWD. 271,000mi on the odometer. Runs/drives/looks like it's only a couple years old. Gets 25mpg on the freeway (in SoCal).
I bought my 2006 2nd gen almost 2 years ago and really like it. Mine is an AWD 5 speed that was kept immaculately clean. It did have kinda high highway miles, 187k, but the service records were all there and the dreaded A/C death had been dealt with the year before I got it for like $3500. It is relatively gutless but gets pretty good mileage. I would love to add a supercharger, I think you can get one that’s almost plug and play for around 3-4K. They are great!
love my 1st gen 5 speed, i agree its the most practical all around vehicle out there. i like how the 1st gen looks vs the 2nd gen and im fine with a more simple non vtec engine, also nice to have the double wishbone front suspension vs the McPherson of the 2nd gen. mine just hit 200k and is down for some routine maintenance and upgrades, but other than that its been very reliable. i will say some of the stuff on it leaves a bit to be desired, but overall im happy. it will tow 3000# without a sweat, ive done it many times. a few issues with the 1st gen, not sure what got fixed on the 2nd: *wiper linkage is based on plastic ball joints and wears out fast *window motors are weak *mirrors dont go out as far and up as far as they should for a tall person *rust issues under plastic fender trim *rear license plate holder is very fragile and is easy to accidentally grab instead of the door handle, one time is all it takes to break it and ive never found a used intact one *1st gen engines valves must be adjusted regularly or they will get burnt valves, manual says 70k some people say 30k *timing belt every 100k is a must *5th gear synchro's aren't the most robust *u joints for the rear drive shaft are pretty small and non serviceable / greaseable, pretty common to fail. they want you to buy a whole new driveshaft too because the u joints are staked in place and dont have c clips. *why oh why did honda put the dipstick hole in between the exhaust manifold and impossible to see in any lighting situation
We have a 2004 CR-V that has 309,000. It has been very reliable. We've had it since it had 95,000 miles. Just now, we had the alternator (and tensioner pully) fail.
Have a 2nd Gen Great all round vehicle. Heaps of internal space. (would have preferred if the rear seats were removable without a spanner, and fold flat) And can work as a micro camper. Lets call it "Cozy" for two. Well worth a look
Are you able to take an AC unit from the newer ones at a scrap yard and put it into the older one fairly easy? I want one of these but I'm in Florida and I'm not dealing with anything bad AC wise. Lol
Hi there! Youre the one who inspired me to look for a 2nd gen CR-V. Meanwhile, I searched a lot on the internet and I see that it is a really great car. I want to upgrade it for overlanding. Install a 2 inch lift kit, drop kit, bigger wheels, and roof top tent. What I wanted to ask you is that when it breaks (and something will break eventually - like wheel bearings and joints), what do you recommend? OEM parts or aftermarket parts? OEM ones are much more expensive...A loooot expensive.. :D Thank you! :)

Hi, planning to buy one for the growing family. Question on the AC Compressor issue - is it a design issue of this generation where if mine gets broken and i replaced it, the replacement also has tendency to break with the same problem? As you mentioned you’re on your 3rd AC now. Is there a way to use other generation/design AC?

@@joepearlzz8504 Yes, I did change the oil every 2-3000 miles actually. They are programmed to run good to 250,000 miles and then one needs to start babying it. my car had 251,000. One day I looked at the dipstick and no oil showed up on it! i immediately put a wuqrt in and drove it 7 miles for an oil change. One week later a little knock started and it just got worse. Then, it stalled and sat for couple weeks down the street from my driveway. I flatbedded it to the city and had it checked. The knock was too deep to fix.
@@joepearlzz8504 Probably! It was a sad day to get rid of it. I tried to sell it on Marketplace and ended up selling it for 825 to an insurance auto action firm. Now it is probably getting revamped in a body/mechanic shop on a ship to the Ukraine for an overseas buyer.
MPG is some of the worst for Honda (18-21 - sometimes lower, rarely higher). Terrible access in engine bay. Honda has discontinued various parts (eg: PVC hose) Lots of road noise. Wheel bearings are horrendous to replace. Not for off-roading, despite what ppl claim/do. Rear seats do NOT fold flat, although they do recline a bit to create a lounger. Claims All-Wheel Drive (4AWD) BUT, it's actually front wheel drive with (allegedly) electronic transfer to rear wheels if stuck/spinning (see 4:46) AWD is an expensive and unnecessary add-on (makes tire purchases more expensive). 1st Gen has true ground clearance; but, 2nd Gen ground clearance is reduced due to fuel tank Fun car but know its limits.

What do you recommend? I want to buy AT tires but feel like I need to resolve this first
Could be the transmission, maybe takes time to shift. If you don’t have any check engine light. Tune up maybe: air filter spark plugs coils , injectors (use cleaners ) etc

Cant tell any difference with the code, but clearing it works for about a week or 2 before it throws it again. Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and what you did to correct it? Is it possible to just change the sensor on the side of the throttle body? Or did it turn out to be something else? Vehicle has 102000 miles and other than this every thing is rock solid.
I purchased it a year ago... Paid $7000. Most vehicle prices then we're over priced due to the covid era.
I been 10 with my 04 crv and I still love it maintenance is key
Excellent vehicle I had my crv 2nd generation for 8 years. I bought it 2nd hand it was 10 when I got it. It's probably the oldest car I've had but there was no major mechanical issues. We just recently upgraded to the newer model but I strongly recommend the mark 2.
I have my 2003 Honda crv and it’s at 205,000 miles and running amazing
I've had my 2003 crv almost 2 years drove it from 176000 to well over 220000 miles and still going strong all wheel drive and the rarer 5 speed at that
Nice! Gotta love the Crv!
I just hit 1920000
5 speed, awesome!
SRV2002 года пробег 300.000 миль золотая до сих пор полёт нормальный и ещё столько проедет ездит супруга не нарадуется
These things rule. I had an 02 and miss the lack of intervention nannies, it would do axis spins on snow/ice whereas our 2012 steps in and halts the fun. 🤙🏼🍻💯
My 2002 CRV is at 304,000 miles and still running strong
I have 2005 CRV all wheel drive which I bought in 2008 from Honda dealership. It has 210,00 KM on it and still drives great. It has a remote start, I never had AC problem in 15 yrs and ice cooling in no time. Heating also works great. Besides periodic maintenance I never had any break down or major repairs. I want to buy a new SUV but they are very expensive to finance and I am also retiring in two three years.
Thanks for your advice I am looking for a Honda just debating what year is the best year to buy
Really happy with my 2005 2nd Gen AWD.
Now showing 101,000 km.
Just picked up an 03 with 58,000 miles on it. Paid a pretty penny but it’s mint already love it
Just brought a 03 crv. Drove it from Iowa to Milwaukee wi no problems. Has 140k on it. Their cheap I paid 3300 and it had 2 sets of brand new tires
love my 1st gen 5 speed, i agree its the most practical all around vehicle out there. i like how the 1st gen looks vs the 2nd gen and im fine with a more simple non vtec engine, also nice to have the double wishbone front suspension vs the McPherson of the 2nd gen. mine just hit 200k and is down for some routine maintenance and upgrades, but other than that its been very reliable. i will say some of the stuff on it leaves a bit to be desired, but overall im happy. it will tow 3000# without a sweat, ive done it many times. a few issues with the 1st gen, not sure what got fixed on the 2nd:
*wiper linkage is based on plastic ball joints and wears out fast
*window motors are weak
*mirrors dont go out as far and up as far as they should for a tall person
*rust issues under plastic fender trim
*rear license plate holder is very fragile and is easy to accidentally grab instead of the door handle, one time is all it takes to break it and ive never found a used intact one
*1st gen engines valves must be adjusted regularly or they will get burnt valves, manual says 70k some people say 30k
*timing belt every 100k is a must
*5th gear synchro's aren't the most robust
*u joints for the rear drive shaft are pretty small and non serviceable / greaseable, pretty common to fail. they want you to buy a whole new driveshaft too because the u joints are staked in place and dont have c clips.
*why oh why did honda put the dipstick hole in between the exhaust manifold and impossible to see in any lighting situation
I have a 2001 CR-V with 220k miles that I bought this year and it's still going strong
I picked up my 2002 CRV with 65k miles for around $6k in 2020.
Best purchase in a longgggg time
That is an insanely good deal!! Just got one with more than double the miles for $500 less and I thought that was good lol
I just bought my 2004 CRV with 210k now i had put 2k miles in less than 2 months runs like a champ
I just bought a 2002 with 152,000 km, I am doing maintenance on it and replacing the generator. But I hope I have the same luck as all of you.
Hi! thanks for the video. Do you think this Honda can tow a 1500 pounds camper trailer through a hill?
Hell yeah! I have a Honda CR-V (2005)...and it's GOLD... 🙏In Europe the 2.4 it's not available...I have the 2.0,but it's OK 😎
Love mine. its been so useful.
Hi, I like your crv! What's size of tire you use?
We have a 2004 CR-V that has 309,000. It has been very reliable. We've had it since it had 95,000 miles. Just now, we had the alternator (and tensioner pully) fail.
Have a 2nd Gen Great all round vehicle.
Heaps of internal space. (would have preferred if the rear seats were removable without a spanner, and fold flat)
And can work as a micro camper. Lets call it "Cozy" for two.
Well worth a look
Not only replace the compressor. But condenser/radiator. Evaporator. vacuum, and flush clean all the pipes. Regas.
Are you able to take an AC unit from the newer ones at a scrap yard and put it into the older one fairly easy? I want one of these but I'm in Florida and I'm not dealing with anything bad AC wise. Lol
thanks for the video! what about 2nd gen with 2.0 engine?
I am not familiar with that engine set up for the 2nd gen Crv. But I assume it's a k series so it should last forever! Lol
I need tires like yours. I bought all weather tires and regret not getting all terrain tires. But it still does pretty well in mud and snow.
I have a 05 crv , my Aircon compressor has packed up now , but not needed realy in the uk , ( engine management light on due to this ) its on 170,000 and i have done 30,000 with no problems , annoying is that cd drop down flap beeps often and tells me that the satnav door is open , picnic table is a bonus , purchased to do the mountains of spain , which will be next month , yipeee , i love this car
Not needed in the UK? We've just had a punishingly hot summer.
@@asensibleyoungman2978 open the window , aircon just uses more fuel ,
@@Travelling-Tim Opening the window in 29 degrees heat just blows more hot air inside the car.
I'm half assed looking for a manual 2nd Gen. Once i find a half decent one ill purchase it.
Bought my 2003 crv yesterday! and it rides like a Lamborghini. well-maintained by the previous owner and its awd. oh and btw just paid 1695$ cad tax in. that'll be half million in few years
Where did you find one? I can't find anything in Ontario.
My girlfriend has a 2004 exact the same color of you, pick it from 3rd owner back on 2019 put some bucks on her, and she's still in love with the CR-V
Just got a 2002 ex awd with 110k miles and I love it
How much did you pay? I’m shopping around right now
@@JS-ez2tw $4500 but It was a godsend that fell in my lap
Hey I’m looking to buy one. Would I be fine simply not replacing the A/C if it fails? And will it still corrupt the whole A/C system even if im not using it? Thanks.
My 2001 CRV has good power. 90 miles on freeway and passing no problem.
Yes you should, I just got a civic 2003 for 2000$ and the car runs very well, be wise with your money and get a mechanic to check your cars.
Where’s the review for the element bro? LOL!! GREAT CARS!!
I have this car and it’s great and reliable
What tires are those? I think they look amazing... loved to throw those on mine
Thanks! They are Road one cavalry tires. 235/75s. I wouldn't recommend them in mud tires though.
Just got a 2003 crv with 89 thousand on it no rust and im in Wisconsin 🙏
Congrats! Sounds like a great deal!
I just bought a 2002 with 168,000 on it after my 2005 Toyota Highlander engine started a steady engine knock/tick.
Sad about the Highlander! I have driven it for 8 years.
The Honda is pretty cool!
Highlander is usually petty reliable.. did you change oil often enough within every 5000k miles?
@@joepearlzz8504 Yes, I did change the oil every 2-3000
miles actually.
They are programmed to run good to 250,000 miles
and then one needs to start
babying it.
my car had 251,000. One day I looked at the dipstick and no oil showed up on it! i immediately put a wuqrt in and drove it 7 miles for an oil
change. One week later a little knock started and it just got worse.
Then, it stalled and sat for couple
weeks down the street from my driveway. I flatbedded it to the city and had it checked. The knock was too deep to fix.
@@Suns41 maybe you had an oil leak and didn’t see it on time?
@@joepearlzz8504 Probably!
It was a sad day to get rid of it.
I tried to sell it on Marketplace and ended up selling it for 825 to an insurance auto action firm.
Now it is probably getting revamped in a body/mechanic shop on a ship to the Ukraine for an overseas buyer.
Hey what kind of tires are those? Did you have to use a lift kit to get them to fit?
i have one and is the best rather than having a new car with those crazy monthly payments..
Sweet CRV! What are your tire dimensions?
Thanks! They are 29 inch tires 👍
Just bought my 2002 CRV 77,000 miles
How is it now?
What limits? Idk anything about cars and maybe be buying it.
I have the 2003! Still haven't had major issues. Just under chassis bushings and door rubbers. Yeah, mostly rubbers and gaskets were the issues.
I’m looking to replace wheels and tires but idk 16 or 15inch ??? Any recommendation??? (Off road look)
Mine is a k20 2.0 engine (Japanese version imported to st Lucia) still runs nicely
My driver seats rocks a little I still have the same ac compressor someone stopped me yesterday asking about n ac compressor so I’m hoping mine holds up
But honestly this is a great car easy to repair 👨🔧 good for a daily
I agree!
If anyone is here still I’m 15 and my first car is an 04 crv with the 5 speed manual I think it’s got around 184k on it and I’m just wondering how long it will last before I have to get something new
December 2023 now, the 02+ LX with 200k is averaging 3300, 220k at 3100, 240k at 2800. I have been on Craigslist for months, i love this generation of crv, and its not worth the price currently in my area. I would like to get one at 150k but theyre like 4500. The honda name has made this not worth it. I will wait a bit. If i can get one for 3k at 150k miles thats worth it.
What tires are you using?
I love my 2002 crv.
I need help! I have a 2003 CR-V but my MPG is around 14mpg. the 3 things I feel could be the issue is a cracked coil pack at the tip(it's missing a bit of plastic but I put black tape around it for the time being), the PCV valve, or the O2 sensors. What do you recommend? I want to buy AT tires but feel like I need to resolve this first
I have a similar mileage unfortunately. Did you make any progress in finding the root cause?
Could be the transmission, maybe takes time to shift. If you don’t have any check engine light. Tune up maybe: air filter spark plugs coils , injectors (use cleaners ) etc
I have a 2004 model and it has been really a reliable well running vehicle. Recently, I have had the vehicle throw a low voltage throttle position sensor code. Dont really want to go to repair shop if I can avoid it
I had a 2006 crv as my first car back in 2016 kept if for about 2-2.5 years untill it gave out on me I had a total 300,500 miles. Honestly I think if I would have took better care of it it would still be going. I miss that car daily and the mileage really speaks to the reliability of Honda. Crazy thing is I had only recently discovered the table and was like there was so much more for us to explore.
Stopped running? Never changed the oil?
Your tires look nice, i just got ko2 for mine 👍
Just bought a 2003 crv 3 days ago at 180k , I’m so I love .it runs nice and is such a beauty.any tips for first time car owner?
Check the tires. Battery && fuses asap
Swap out the AC compressor for a non-OEM one
Sup bro. I lifted mine also. Same color as yours.
Nice! One of the best colors!
Nice tire ! What ms the size

2001 13 years...327K. Awesome tax deduction from school. 2006 17yrs...316K. Bought with 95K. No AC for 3 years. Managed Maine logging roads like a champ. But it was time. Bought 2017 with 84K. Looking forward to another decade...or two.
How much should I pay for a 2nd generation near 200 000 miles?
