I personally agree with key difference 4. Especially for me when I went to high school from middle school, I could also feel the sense of play fading away as it slowly became more of a competition sort of. Therefore, I feel like it is just life when high schoolers lose that sense of play b/c they start to realize how the real world is mostly about competition.

    Hi Caylee!
I am a director of a theatre program. (for kids, i mostly do JR. shows.) Me and the other director are deciding between two titles. Those two titles are "Frozen JR" and "Moana JR" so we thought we would comment on one of your videos and help us on this difficult topic. If you have ANY suggestions please let us know in reply. Thank You so much! P.S me and my Co. Director are your BIGGEST FAN!

Hi there! I appreciate you reaching out and your kind words about my channel. These are my initial thoughts:
-Both titles are going to be BIG ticket sellers, although I have heard that Frozen is a title that really brings in the crowds.
-I love that both titles are currently only able to be performed by youth performers beings no full versions are available yet, BUT I will say that Frozen is set to release the full version (for community theatres and high schools to perform) in the near future, so that window to be the only age group allowed to perform that particular title is closing soon.
-The music in Moana Jr. is actually VERY challenging! I believe there is a pronunciation guide with the showkit to help you out, but be prepared to spend extra time on it. For an example of the difficulty, just look up Tulou Tagaloa from the show. If you have a spectacular music director and ambitious performers, great!
-Both shows require some creativity with costuming and some special effects (think about how you'll handle Elsa's dress change and how you'll convey the ocean and Te Fiti in Moana).
I hope this helps you make your decision! Break a leg

I think it would depend on the age range, what ages is this for? Frozen might work better for smaller kids while Moana may work better for middle school kids!

Wow!!! I also do a theatre camp for the summer, the first show they ever did there was this past summer and we did Moana JR, it’s really fun for all ages really, our cast was (going into 5th to going into 12th grade) and I got chief ancestor 2!!! (Thats pretty good considering I was going into 5th grade.
In 2024 August, the same theatre is doing Frozen JR, and I really hope I get Young Anna, Middle Anna, or Anna. I’ve read over the script, and honestly it seems like it would be just as fun!! You need strong singers for Elsa and Anna, so it really could go for any age! But young anna and elsa are usually for the youngest in the group. For young Moana, they brought in a 1st grader who was adorable!

I personally disagree with the last difference. I am 13(turning 14 in the fall) and is in the 7th. In 6th grade the drama program at my school decided to do Lion King Jr. Which to the eyes of an adult might sound innocent and fun, but really it wasn’t. I could tell that a lot of my friends were not comfortable, with only a few exceptions like the person who played Nala, Young Nala, Pumba, and Banzai. Now 3 of what I just mentioned were 6th graders at time. I pretend to comfortable with it all because I was Ed the hyena, but it was still weird and embarrassing. Many of us cried, the person that played Shenzi cried when she first saw the one of the 3 hyenas costumes and can’t blame her, I cried at the end of rehearsal. To sum up, I think middle schoolers can sometimes be like that, but it all depends on what it is middle school is just preparing you for high school. Take my example of crying over the costumes. It wasn’t because it look bad, it look really good and was very nice. I cried because I knew I would be called a furry and I wasn’t wrong. The reason why middle schoolers are more are more positive because we have lighter topics in plays not because we are younger. I not in high school, but I know for fact that no high schooler wants to be known as furry. So in my opinion it matters on what the show is and what it is about. I do agree with other points though from a middle school perspective.

I appreciate you sharing your experiences and I'm sorry that your musical experience wasn't ideal. I hope that your next experience is much more positive

I was just assigned MS drama as a long term sub. Any suggestions or tips so I can help them feel like they are getting the full, most fun experience out of this class while their teacher is away? Or what you would wish for in a sub for your class?
