  • Please join me in this video, True Story of Actress Sheree Winton and TV Legend Dale Winton.
We celebrate the lives and the true story of actress Sheree Winton and TV legend Dale Winton, and visit their final resting place, bringing flowers and much love to remember this incredible mother and son team. Remembering their talent, determination, beauty, and kindness while also recognising that a smile doesn’t always tell the true story - we are not always aware of what’s going on behind that beautiful smile.
It was a little time before I joined the dots... One of my favourite 50s/60s British blonde bombshells Sheree Winton was the mother of the fabulous Television presenter Dale Winton - how did I not realise sooner?
I’d been interested in Sheree for years - and I’d discovered Dale in the mid-1990s around the time of Supermarket Sweep and Pets Win Prizes and it sort of went from there - and yet, I still didn’t connect Sheree and Dale until a couple of years later and it was a huge WOW moment - I should have known!
Then.... already aware of Sheree’s sad ending - my heart broke afresh for what Dale had to endure with the death of his beloved mother of whom throughout his entire life he was so terribly proud - Dale Winton said he gained his work ethic from his mum, who told him that no matter what he decided to do, the important thing was to do it to the best of his ability - which is exactly what Dale did.
Dale of course loved all the Carry-Ons - he was close friends with many of my favourite celebrities including Barbara Windsor - and he was fiercely loved by those who knew him best.

Another educational, respectful and poignant video from yourself. Whilst I wouldn't class myself as a huge Dale Winton fan, I can't deny he was well liked by many and a huge household name. I knew vaguely his mother was an actress but was unaware of Sheree's interesting and ultimately tragic life story. Like many of your videos, I must admit to shedding a tear at the end.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment - it’s very much appreciated and thank you for watching too ❤️ I loved Sheree before I became aware of Dale to be honest - I’ve always been interested in vintage actresses and pinups - so she’d been on my radar for as long as I can remember! I found this video really emotional to make - I was so sad when Dale passed away ❤️😢

I was lucky to bump into Dale Winton twice in my life while I was out and about in various parts of London. I was in a huge queue at a cashpoint in Silvertown at 1am. Dale was chatting to total strangers in the queue, being utterly charming to everyone. It was genuine and unaffected and this was quite a rough crowd!!! Everybody loved him and went away with a hugely positive impression.
I met home again in Brixton on a hot afternoon and he was in his convertible Jaguar stuck in traffic. He was chatting with pedestrians, motorists and me!! He pulled over and went into a cafe and came out with bottled water for himself and a few others stuck in traffic.
A lovely genuine sweet man. I miss him.
By the way, I think he had more talent than people give him credit for.

What a surprisingly complex storyline. Quite fascinating to think of a celebrity’s mother also being something of a celebrity with a complex lifestyle and broken marriages and unhappiness along the way. It all seems so strange.

Poor Dale has a child being so happy with his very much loved mother and then everything just takes a nose dive. 😢. Bless you both Dale and Sheree. Mother and Son together always.

Was nor a big Dale fan, always thought he was and was in cheesy shows, but i always thought he had a genuine love for what he did and a kindness for the people he met, i was shocked when he died and that's when i realised exactly what a lovely lovable bloke he was. I love the pictures of him and his mum when he was a kid he looks spoiled and loved and his mum looks like fun, what a shame she led such a disturbed and tragic life in the end, i hope they both rest in peace. x

Dale Winston interviewed the Sex Pistols for United Biscuits radio, with Steve Allen ( now at LBC) as the sound man. They seemed to have differing memories of the event, Dale said in his autobiography that they were on their best behaviour, Steve said on the radio (many years ago when I heard this) that Dale said as they were leaving that they wouldn't be able to broadcast it.

Thank you so much for revealing, with love and sincerity, two people I knew very little about. I had heard of Dale, through other people talking about Supermarket sweep, and I think I recall seeing him on the National Lottery. It’s sad to see them die prematurely, and alone. Maybe they are reunited on another plain, I hope so. My mother had a great love of film stars, collected their autographs and knew a lot of them personally ( as her mother ran a tearoom where they used to go, in London) and although I don’t have the same dedication to collect autographs, I do love reading autobiographical books. I just love the insights to these fascinating people, you explain in great depth, thank you.

For what it is worth, l believe Dale created and enjoyed the luxury of being company with loved ones and indeed complete strangers, in everyday situations.
He sounds very well brought up to me, to be able to meet anyone, in any circumstance, and hold your own , is a blessing which in turn would allow you to move in the widest possible circles, his Mother would have witnessed this in her lifetime, and so would be happy and proud of her son, two things a Mother would love to witness from their child.
She was a Mother beyond the grave too, which Dale would also realise, and it is to this end l sincerely wish them both everlasting peace.
Life provides us with our story, which once it is lived we may see in its fullness for the very first time, an opportunity to complete our circle, and rejoin as a family once more, l wish this for his Father too who l would like to think can be part of that circle also.
We never have all the answers to our life, but once our time is over, we may be able to see for the first time all the choices we may of made, to remain perfectly happy .....
    For evermore.

This was really well told…very informative, and your voice is nice and clear, as well as easy on the ear, You told us so much about Sheree and Dale, which was fascinating. Sheree had a really good head on her shoulders, and did well for herself, until the suicide attempts…so very sad. Mother and son had become so close over the years, and sounded to have a really happy life together….Dale started doing well as a DJ too…how utterly utterly tragic that just seven days after he’d had his twenty first birthday she finally committed suicide…my heart goes out to the poor boy Dale was at that age and time. That was very sad.
Poor Dale always having weight problems, from being a child, that was a horrible thing to go through.. he did well throughout his career, but it’s tragic he died when he did. The one consolation to me is that he would be with his mother again. As there is no a death…and it would have been a great celebration when they reunited bless them. Goodness , between then what busy lives they led! Makes me feel like a snail by comparison in my life! Thankyou for the beautiful roses ..I’m sure they saw you lay them down for them, and would be touched and very grateful. Thankyou for taking time to do this video and for all the love,y old photos you had managed to collect. Sheree was very beautiful, I’m sorry she felt so low she ended her life….as I was told “it’s a permanent action to a temporary problem “. RIP Sheree and Dale…you are still greatly missed. 🙏💕💐

I plod through slowly taking in the scenery!

She was still very pretty in middle age, wasn't she? but it's sometimes harder to break back into the business once you've left it than it was to break into it in the first place. Poor Dale! I hope his final note from his mother was a loving one reflecting their happy history together and not her momentary anger over a prescription misunderstanding.

She was! Sheree was an absolute beauty and I think Dale took after her - he was very handsome! I also agree - Sheree had hit her forties and the roles she had been playing were getting snapped up by younger actresses - Joanna Lumley was 11 years younger when they both went for the role of Purdey x yes I think the note was very loving from what I understand ❤️🌹

The photograph of Winston and his parents; him, sat on the bonnet of a car, apart from his parents, says a huge amount about the relationship between them. How Dale thought the public didn't recognise his true sexual orientation is very strange. It shows how showbusiness life can truly separate those in it from reality. I'm not surprised he had a completely non religious funeral.

Yes I agree - the picture is very poignant ❤️ and yes - bless him he was worried that he would lose some of his audience and sadly some he would have - but it’s only with age and confidence that you realise that wouldn’t have been a bad thing! ❤️

I didn't know before he had such a turbulent life with his mothers' problems. Interesting that he could never find partner, he was famous and a handsome chap, maybe he he worried too much about people given what he knew about his mother and father. His father died in his 50s, Dale in his early 60s, could have been genetics.
