  • The sixth video of my "Hatching Turkey Eggs" series. This is (Part 6) Hatch Day ~ What Not to Do. We'll talk about this process all the way to the last egg hatching. Also what I did different and how the outcome was not what I expected. I will share my heartbreaking experience and how I learned what definitely NOT to do next time with my Little Giant Incubator.

    Thank you for this video. Last week I had 9 chicken eggs in the incubator. 5 hatched very well. Very textbook hatch. I had 2 more that had pipped. They both started breaking their shells. I knew they were struggling. My instincts told me to intervene. This wasn't my first hatching so I knew what I was doing but I trusted the "experts" who discourage intervening. I lost one egg completely to shrink wrapping. The other egg hatched but the chick struggled from day of hatch. We ended up losing the chick on day 3 of life. The last 2 eggs I lost somewhere along day 18 or 19. By day 21 I knew they were no longer viable. I've been beating myself up since last Thursday for not intervening. Thank you for helping me find peace. 💚

This was the 3rd time to hatch and I was in the process of hatching chicks which I learned how to by watching your video series🤗 (Thank You!!) This time I was very heartbroken because this time my chicks Wer having trouble and and they Wer dying inside so I rewatched and rewatched Your series to see what I was doing wrong.I was to the point of quitting 😭 and although I still had 8 eggs in the incubator I took a break I started to watch Your Turkey Series! Instead I have a Pair of Turkeys and have thought of hatching some of their eggs. Hallelujah🙌🏿 and now I know what I did wrong!!! I also propped up my Incubator 🤦🏿‍♀️!!! I will definitely correct it for next time💕 Thank You Margarita💕

  • @453421abcdefg12345
    @453421abcdefg12345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think Turkeys require a much different incubation system to Chickens, in the wild, Turkeys (no not Wild Turkey hic!) have a very humid pile of decomposing vegetation as a nest , so this must generate a lot more humidity , I think although the humidly meter was showing the correct reading, the fact that there was too much air flow allowed the shells to dry out too much, but that is what you have concluded by your analysis, so all this was not for nothing, you have learned a lot from this project, well done! Stay safe, Chris B.

    • @farmmom7140
      @farmmom7140  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Chris. Yes, I did learn a very important lesson. There we're signs through out the process that had me wondering. I was constantly filling my water trays and the fact that I never had condensation building up on the see thru windows had me second guessing what was going.

      @@farmmom7140 I think you just have to put these things down to gaining knowledge, it can be very frustrating when you do everything to the book and still have problems, but it does make us all wiser , you must feel very upset loosing them at this late stage, but it will not happen next time I am sure. Those eggs were pretty dirty. That might have had something to do with it. YES humidity is extremely important on all fowl eggs. I have trouble with humidity all the time. I use a smaller room with a heater to help raise the humidity. If I turn a fan on the humidity drastically drops. They look healthy don't beat yourself up, it's trial and error. We live and learn

    I have a couple of questions. 1. How old were your eggs when you initially put them in the incubator? 2. How can I increase my humidity with my incubator having a preset humidity guage?

    • @farmmom7140
      @farmmom7140  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! The eggs were 5 days old and stored in a cool environment. On the humidity I would purchase a separate humidity reader just to double check that your incubator one is accurate. I've found they are somewhat different. Are you wanting to increase the humidity at lockdown time or during incubation time?

    I had chickens and turkeys way back and I check on them all the time when they are hatching and when if I notice that some chicks takes too long to hatch I check the inside for the veins and if rhe yolk is gone already and no more blood on the veins and theu still don’t hatch I helped them hatch and they all alive that’s why IT IS NOT BAD TO HELP to hatch this chicks especially if it is hatching from the incubator. Most of the videos I watched in youtube who don’t help the chicks hatch pissed me off coz they can actually help them not to die.
