This episode was a clever rebuttal to the fans, because of the long hiatuses between seasons, and the growing calls for them to address long-running questions and theories about things like Rick’s real origin story and wanting more Evil Morty, etc. Using this story device, which is literally a train based on Dan Hermon’s ‘story circle’ concept, they got to poke fun at the fans while giving themselves permission not to be beholden to addressing canonical issues every week (the freedom to do standalone ‘story of the week episodes’, like how the X-files was for the first couple seasons before the fans started demanding answers to long running mysteries). There is a direct follow-up to this episode in a later season, but you won’t even realize it when that episode starts 😏
Then he said 'fck you god, not today bitsh' 'There is no god!' 'One dot, motherf*ckers!!' And in this second scene this is not even an actual rick. Its a toy.
He didn't actually call on God, tho. He purposely added the christian continuity to the story, thereby ruining it. That's why Storylord was freaking out, he knew exactly what Rick was doing. There are interesting ways of using Jesus in fiction, but making traditional christian theology the actual logic and cannon rules of the in-story universe is not one of them. Faith-based fiction is universally seen as trash by audiences and critic alike. The threat was not beyond Rick, it was the only way to ensure the story would suck.
14:40 also the Canaanite deity El, which literally meant "god/deity". They used El ALMOST exclusively until around, i think the "Second Temple Period", they started canonizing teachings more heavily, and getting rid of the lesser gods and reassigning all the good stuff to El, and UN-goding all the others, and recognizing EL as the only, one real legit God (with a capital G)
This is one of the few Rick and Morty episodes that when I first watched it I didn't like it that much, but after rewatching it multiple times, it's now one of my favorites.
This episode is very meta. It is basically writers making an spisode full of writers-humor and references to how they work when creating episodes. Not just for Rick & Morty but for a lot of different shows.
People have mixed opinions on the heavy meta episodes of Rick & Morty. Tbh meta can be an acquired taste. You either love Ryan Reynolds or you want him to shut the hell up. Personally i can enjoy both Deadpool and Smokin' Aces. Sorry for the loose analogy.
i personally think 4th wall humor is kind of lazy and overdone, and R&M's constant use of it, especially as the show goes on, makes my eyes roll each time. with that said, if they're going to do the 4th wall stuff, i think they should commit super hard and go completely off the wall, because it'll at least be original, that's why i adore this episode and its followup in s6.
If anyone's reading this likes art and comic books, I'm both an artist and a writer, I paint original art and I'm creating a comicbook while writing a book, any subscribers would be appreciated also I love this channel keepnup the great work, I'd suggest the boys or ugly Americans but may get u canceled lol

Notice how twice in this series up to this point Rick has prayed to God when the threat was beyond his science.
The first time it wasn't quite beyond his science. He was just praying while he was "swimming in the air" towards the collar.
That reminds me of the fact that thru our all of dragonball (the show) vegeta only refers to goku as goku 8 times
Then he said 'fck you god, not today bitsh' 'There is no god!' 'One dot, motherf*ckers!!' And in this second scene this is not even an actual rick. Its a toy.
Ironically god in this case would be the writers of the show

I like when Rick has unique villains. Story Lord could be a legit super villains in the comic books
6:46 damn because that people watch mostly nowadays...
You think this episode is weird. Wait till the episode of all the backup families I'll leave it there!

You didn’t ask questions, or raise ethical questions. You just looked straight into the bleeding jaws of capitalism and said “Yes, daddy please.”
