Thanks Darren, was great to finally meet you too. The Wrekin really is a special hill although there's incredible riding all over Shropshire (and a lot of the UK to be fair). What they lack in elevation, they make up for with fantastic trails 😃👍

Definitely for carnage and laughter but Harter Fell/Nan Bield and Grizedale were crazier - if you have forgotten about the former, we can go back 😂 The Wrekin always fills me with nerves too, think that's why I love it so much 👍

I started riding in the Lakes in around 1990; back then, we'd just look on OS Maps and stick to the bridleways, mainly the ones that wouldn't shake us to bits on our cheap rigid bikes with 120mm stems 😂 My mate Keensy (been in a couple of videos) has always been an explorer so as bikes got better, the more we looked at stuff to ride but in all honesty, it's only in the last few years that I have started looking at footpaths, using OS Maps and Strava mainly to find them (as well as searching on STW to see what others have posted about them - I never use TH-cam to find trails) 👍

Love your videos mate - great to see lots of areas I know! Can I ask, do you run 27.5 or 29 wheels? The last bike I brought was back in 1999 😬 I’m still quite confused by these modern wheel sizes..!
Thanks mate. Both my bikes are 27.5; I did consider 29 but until three years ago, I was riding a 2007 Alpine Five with 26” and was very happy with it; 29 seemed a step too far. Plus, I am a self confessed Luddite 😀

@@Stopadoodledoo can I ask what travel your full suspension bike is? I’m siding on a trail bike as opposed to an enduro bike…although though the travel on both types of bike blows my mind. I still remember the when DH forks, like the Rockshox Judy DH, came with 80mm travel, which was considered huge at the time 😂
@@BR0SE1DON It's an Orange Alpine, 170mm front and 160 rear (I think). To be honest, I reckon a trail bike would have done me fine but I wanted a lot of travel for riding in the Lakes, etc (or thought I did). Enduro bikes are great but you need to be quite physical with them to get the best out of them; they are probably a bit harder to ride than a trail bike (if that makes sense). I'm an old fart too - went for years with rigid forks as the suspension forks of the time (especially the ones I could have afforded) were just awful; RS Indy's, etc. Just noodly pieces of elastomer filled pap basically 😃

I'm in my late 30's but bike were a lifetime ago for me - god, I remember RS Indys, a friend had the XC's, they were appalling! I spent my lifesavings (I think I was 13) on a Kona, snapped the forks (Bomber Z2's) in a month and the frame within 3 months... things have moved on a looooong way since then! Really looking forward to getting back into it, thanks for all your help! Massively helpful!
