I feel like "Simon is an addict" refers to the painkillers he is on rather than his antidepressants, considering the morphine he uses in-game. Simon being on strong painkillers after his accident is more than likely.
that could be possible, but aside from him using morphine while in the book world and the 5th ending where he takes david's pills (which is not canon) there really isn't anything that would hint at it. There's just way more clues pointing at the antidepressants

Actually Simon does take anti-depressants, and on the first ending he was probably getting the same vision as David. David was also an addict, anti-depressants have side effects including hallucinations. The first ending is pretty much a homage to AoM. Edit(things i forgot to mention): Ending 5 with David is a joke ending, as for the organism, that's an asset from Paranoia, another really great HL1 mod.
David Leatherhoff was not addicted to Antidepressants though, he was addicted to a PCP like drug, most likely strong painkillers which also made him hallucinate.
@@ethhics well those can also be used for depression, and him standing in the hospital, they must've been prescribed, either way they were the cause of hallucinations.

Damn. I remember that game. 10 years already. I was only 16 when it was released. I was just in school. I now have a gf, a dog, a job, a car and an appartement. Time flies
My personal take on the Doctor and his Gasmask: The Doctor still has the gasmask because to Simon, he might want to seem trustworthy when everyone else seems like a monster, or everyone else wants to hurt him/judge him. He may have killed innocents, but I believe those innocents may have represented Simon's mistrust towards Purnell, and justifies it to us, the player, by showing the Doctor how Simon sees him. Malevolent.
At 24:46 I’m pretty sure that the thing on the table is how Simon felt after he got hit by the car, he pretty much felt like a lump of meat since he lost his legs.
love the game, love the creator's way of expressing the history, and i absolutely love the fact that there is still people talking about this game like 10 years later.
About Simon’s father, it may be the most mysterious thing in the game. But I still got some theories: -Simon’s father was never in his life, no mentioning of his parents physical appearance has been made and despite having a Scandinavian last name with a Hispanic appearance, and his mother so detached from her son’s situation and putting him away from the house, it may be a sign that Simon was adopted and unloved. That could partially explain his depression at the beginning and the feeling of being abandoned. -His parents could have got divorced at a very early age, his father gone before he was born or died before or shortly after Simon’s birth. -Seems very unlikely but still astonishing, Simon always hated social contacts, has an attachment issue and an unexplained depression even before he got the accident. He was also very protective towards Sophie because she seemed fragile and bullied. He also couldn’t or refused to mention his father’s existence and gets very angry when talking about the accident and his past. And his despair about losing his legs and making him feel weak and useless are all clinical signs of early childhood trauma. The feeling of despair, weakness, uselessness, loving too much and deep hatred towards the rest of the society, agressive behaviors when talking about personal stuff, difficulty to express feelings and amnesia/denying his past and family figure could lead eventually to the fact that Simon’s father may have been sexually abusive towards his son. The fact that he was « never here » could also mean that he was arrested or removed from the Henriksson family. Finally, if you look closely at the bottom of the iceberg, there’s a topic about « Maniac Pedophile » where a man is seen beheading a person in a videotape and delivering a coded message. I don’t think the developers chose this title randomly, « Maniac Pedophile » could have a link with the exact nature of the abuse inflicted to Simon and the person that got beheaded in the videotape could be a metaphor of Simon definitely losing his mind after that. The coded message may be a cryptic crying for help and the importance of videotapes and photography in the game makes me think of how depraved his father could have been (Likely involved in a Hurtcore case.). Whenever if these theories are true or not, it is undeniable that Simon’s mother was a toxic parent. She did little for Simon despite his suffering and doesn’t seem to care that much. In the recidivist scenario, Simon eventually got imprisoned after his arrest and the death of Dr Purnell. Again, no mention of his mother was made during his sentence or even in the bittersweet ending where he was put in a mental hospital. Meaning that she truly doesn’t give a fuck about Simon.
wholeheartedly agree with your vision. in the 4th chapter you can find a note where simon refers to himself as a "broken child", who's being blamed by this parents for "walking late at night." this sheds light on the sad, sad, sad relationship with the mother, and this act of victimblaming may be perceived in a different way, including sexual abuse. was it a relative of simon or not - we can tell the left relatives... did not care. and the lack of father and his support completely messed up his view of this world. you can also think of the game as if it tells simon's story in a linear way, (ignoring locations relevancy). childhood (1st ch.) > growing up, teenage years, first love, drowning in depression, sorrowing oneself (3rd ch.) > coming out of age, college, more serious hallucinations and delusions, falling into the self-harm pit and darkness (4th ch), following by the full isolation and distrust, trying to get psychological help, (6th ch), and... his mother's rejection, losing his home, complete loneliness and the final of his life.. or the previous at least. so it makes sense to the first chapter being focused around predator and his child victims, while sawer might me... his incarnation. simon is literally disturbed by sawer, throwing up after a fight and passing out. well, he literally fought a bunch of zombies and dead kids previously, watching a handful a snuff and rummaging through corpses' belongings. so, it must be nothing compared to the act of sexual abuse... shown as a boss fight. the trauma never leave him: now it's altered, coming in the new form as a sawrunner or sawcrazy, always following you.
I remember that some of my friends told me: "Hey man, you should definitely write a book", but knowing how destructive books can be I won't do that just yet. And also because if I was Book Simon I'd enjoy taking life from those foul creatures

11:47 "History is book" the icberg creator was probably refering on how everything that happens during the game is part of the book real life simon was writing
I feel like people doesn’t appreciate how good this game is and how good of a video this is. Generally I love iceberg videos about games I like but for CoF, I found literally 3 vids, and one of them is this one. Still thanking about the fact that I stumbled across this one
Damn I hope your channel blows up. The intro was hilarious, and the health bar concept was nice. This is a top tier Iceberg video, I might be a little biased cause of my love for this game lmao
Definitely found it enjoyable regardless, also super informative. I didn't think I could learn much more about this game than all the research I had done but I learned a couple more things from this that I hadn't prior.
22:54 I like the idea that some of the male characters or monsters in game represent his dad but due to deformity he just doesn't recognise them. The guy who died in hotel in bloody bathtube, the first boss, the guy who shot himself with shotgun. I especially like the idea that shotgun guy is metaphorically represent his dad but due to no head he doesn't comment on him(also metaphorically he maybe doesn't comment because he doesn't know or hates or forgotten his dad) also the fact you can smoke near that shotgun guy... Could it be implication that it's his dad who gave him this smoking habbit?
On the wiki, it says they removed the radios for co-op because "it was very awkward to use - it took up an inventory space, and had to be equipped just to ask for help."
I played it in 2013 and yes even today i still come back to this game, specially for the Soundtrack...the way they describe depression is perfect, its living hell 4 someone who suffers from it...great mod with great story and Soundtrack
@@bigblue344 In my opinion Carcass is the way Simon sees himself in a mirror. Filthy and weak creature stuck in a chair (wheelchair), covered in chains. Simons desperation and anxiety made Sophie leave him, as well as Carcass made Sophie leave Simon in the Book World. Carcass is embodiment of all things that made Sophie reject Simon
I played Cry of Fear many years ago and it's still my favourite urbanistic horror game next to Silent Hill 3. I didn't even realize until now how many secrets and hidden content this game has. That's a rabbit hole indeed
I just finished a playthrough of Cry of Fear and have been looking into it deeper to find out more. Cry of Fear has a very interesting and deep story behind everything. The way that enemies represent things are a really neat touch (though I like the goofy names I gave them during my playthrough). It's kind of unfortunate to see some of the pieces aren't in the game anymore, such as the Stephano easter egg, but it doesn't take away the charm this game has. For its time, this is among the better stories (and rabbit holes) I've seen. I actually felt genuine fear in certain parts and cheap jumpscares were few and far between. Discussing the game and how I interpreted things was the most enjoyable part of it all, especially seeing what I did and didn't get right when it was all done and over with. Love this vid btw ^^
I think what the reddit poster was trying to say about the psycho being a real maniac was the person in the video tape that cut off that person's head with the shears. Maybe, just maybe, Simon wrote that into the book because he felt as if there was an maniac or something living in the some apartment complex as he was.
about the 911 call. im not sure but the sound of someone screaming might be simon screaming when he was trying to unstuck himself from the car or maybe some poor dude got chainsawed. thats all i know for now
911 call might be Simons legs getting removed from being crippled or somebodys legs getting removed due to amputation to remind Simon hes crippled while hes writing the book.
@@Errorrdr im not talking the main story but the lore sorrounding it also keep up the amazing work. I love to see when people play and enjoy cry of fear.
Very cool video, I have followed this game on and off since it got released in 2012 and had no idea about some of these theories or facts. Pretty interesting what the fandom has come up with and which obscurities Andreas and his team has hidden in the game. Idk about the presentation of this video though, there are editing errors and it sounds like you are fiddling with something during recording your lines.
well you'd be right about both. As i've said before i made this video in about 3 days so near the end i was rushing it and yea i was fiddling with something
14:14 Jesus, I remember when I did that, it was very embarrassing to tell my psychiatrist that I had taken 4 antidepressants with cheap rum. Also as far as I know antidepressants are not addictive, or i'm stupid. Good video anyway bud.
There is a theory about the yellow blob of flesh on the surgen table. Its a metaphor for how Simon felt when he was in the hospital on the surgery table bc of the accident. He felt like just a chuck of meet being stitched up.
15:55 GP-5 (from Russian "Гражданский противогаз модели 5" - Civilian gas mask Mk. 5) is actually a Cold War gas mask targeted mainly for civilians protection in event of nuclear war
Some people forgot that, Both Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear is made from the same Engine as Half-Life. (Goldsrc) It's is where the name "Headcrab" came from. It's really cool that He Made the Goldsrc look really good.
Regarding the theory that Simon is one of Davids victims, he sort of is, in a sense. The one who hit Simon with the car is David, its revealed in the secret ending/ending five. While he didnt kill Simon, Simon was a victim of him.
I think the "history is book" entry is referring to the game's story being Simon's book... Obviously, the iceberg's author isn't an English native speaker haha.
21:21 This music should've ended somewhere in Ending 3, since it's the most sad ending where Simon is somewhat still human(only hating doctor and even then it's less severe hate then... What he does to Sophie if you spare carcass).
I still thoroughly believe that Simon is one of David's victims, due to the monster commonality, and yes, I'm the loser who adopted the joke ending okay fuck This was an eye opening video
I think with the helpline that Simon did call it in reality but it only helped in the short term not the long term. Since the guy on the phone ignored Simon's pleas for help he did give him the code to procede but nothing more. Just my thought
I really love this game :D But just to inform you: I think you got the idea of this iceberg video format a bit wrong. It's not about "the deeper it goes, the more disturbing it gets". It's about facts that are sorted on how commonly or uncommonly known they are. So tip of the iceberg could be knowledge that is easily accessible because the game itself explains it, for example how to unlock extra stuff, and the deep iceberg could be facts that only a few people know because developers mentioned in a post or something, for example cut content or unused ideas

I'm so fucking happy to see that the community of CoF is still alive and doing well! This game is a masterpiece!
same
11:47 "History is book" the icberg creator was probably refering on how everything that happens during the game is part of the book real life simon was writing
you're probably right, but then why didn't they say "The book is a projection of real life events" or something along those lines
@@Errorrdr maybe the creators english wasnt that good, or idk
@@cshmarkcreator used google translator
Why is 'The carcass is Simon's fault' part silent? 24:16 It actually was pretty creepy for me.
But this is still a cool video!
This is a top tier Iceberg video, I might be a little biased cause of my love for this game lmao
i mean i think it is a bit biased imo because it's definitely not a perfect iceberg video from my somewhat monotone voice to some errors in editing
Could it be implication that it's his dad who gave him this smoking habbit?
the living organism is more of a ref of what simon felt lile on the operating table
On the wiki, it says they removed the radios for co-op because "it was very awkward to use - it took up an inventory space, and had to be equipped just to ask for help."
Love this video, Cry of Fear has been my favorite indie horror video game for quite a while now
I’m in love with this game, soundtrack too
I played it in 2013 and yes even today i still come back to this game, specially for the Soundtrack...the way they describe depression is perfect, its living hell 4 someone who suffers from it...great mod with great story and Soundtrack
Why was "carcass is Simon's fault" skipped? Wondering if its a dumb theory or common knowledge
I didn't have the voice lines for it and forgot to edit it out because near the end i was rushing the video a lot
@@Errorrdr oh ok, no prob :)
My guess its that he couldn't let go of the girl he liked so therefore the carcass was his fault as it represents her.
@@FuturekGaming well Said.
This is still one of my favorite videos of Cry Of Fear and the icebergs
thank you for putting so much time and effort into your video. i really enjoyed watching it and loved the passion you have for the game. keep it up ^^
i think the "suicide" part is just talking about the many references to suicide in CoF, or just talking about the suicide maps
but eh, who knows
it's too vague to tell and i didn't want to bother the OP more than i already did
@@Errorrdr true
I think what the reddit poster was trying to say about the psycho being a real maniac was the person in the video tape that cut off that person's head with the shears. Maybe, just maybe, Simon wrote that into the book because he felt as if there was an maniac or something living in the some apartment complex as he was.
Might explain Simon having a gun with him. He was paranoid before being suicidal.
Only 74 subs? Damn. I hope you get more
Seeing as how i only have 3 videos on this channel i think it's insane how i have that amount of subs and it's still growing.

Great video I'm glad someone did a cry of fear iceberg 👍
about the 911 call. im not sure but the sound of someone screaming might be simon screaming when he was trying to unstuck himself from the car or maybe some poor dude got chainsawed. thats all i know for now
1:58 i never thought Stephano would have been unsealed after so long
Cry of Fear is something amazing I’ve been introduced to and I can really relate to Simon on an emotional level.
Hi sorry for the Spam , i love so much cry of fear too, and i think you will like that too
th-cam.com/video/Kj85GC8LONo/w-d-xo.html
911 call might be Simons legs getting removed from being crippled or somebodys legs getting removed due to amputation to remind Simon hes crippled while hes writing the book.
I never knew cry of fear had this much lore.
i mean not really. The basic story is very straightforward with not much to add, but the theories are always fun
@@Errorrdr im not talking the main story but the lore sorrounding it also keep up the amazing work. I love to see when people play and enjoy cry of fear.
Great video! You can definitely improve in the future, but this was a fun watch
I really liked this vid dude, good job. Im looking forward to see what u bring netx
First time seeing your videos but your attitude and quality makes me watch more:)
Super underrated video bro, your channel deserves more subs
10:43 It's still in the game and affects near all enemies, just instead of instant kill it's just increased dmg
This video is really well made. You deserver more subs. :)
Thank you!
yooo epic, i saw the original post and knew someone would make this, i like it! you did pretty good with this!
"Sweden, a city of Stockholm" I think you've got them mixed up
yep definitely did. Autism moment
12:31 as a native swedish speaker, hearing you speak "alla älskar kanniner" was so funny
This vid is really worth watching but i wonder Why ur so underrated?
i theorized that simon was in purgatory when he was hit by the car
not in a post apocalypse
Very cool video, I have followed this game on and off since it got released in 2012 and had no idea about some of these theories or facts. Pretty interesting what the fandom has come up with and which obscurities Andreas and his team has hidden in the game.
Idk about the presentation of this video though, there are editing errors and it sounds like you are fiddling with something during recording your lines.
well you'd be right about both. As i've said before i made this video in about 3 days so near the end i was rushing it and yea i was fiddling with something
15:56 that ain't no ww2 gas mask , that's a gp5 from the 60's, Purnell uses something similar to the german GM38
I am glad I wasn't the only one that gave Simon some much needed drip
Simon explains Cry of Fear iceberg
Simon explaining the lore of Cry of Fear
Great video man , i can see you put a lot of work in it👍👍👍
I'd be down as a clown to read the mf cry of fear book
I live in Ljubljana Slovenia and Stockholm strangely fells like home
14:14 Jesus, I remember when I did that, it was very embarrassing to tell my psychiatrist that I had taken 4 antidepressants with cheap rum. Also as far as I know antidepressants are not addictive, or i'm stupid.
Good video anyway bud.
There is a theory about the yellow blob of flesh on the surgen table. Its a metaphor for how Simon felt when he was in the hospital on the surgery table bc of the accident. He felt like just a chuck of meet being stitched up.
i really loved this video i will sub to you keep on the work !!
Obviously, the iceberg's author isn't an English native speaker haha.
great video bro...cry of fear is my favourite horror game
21:21 This music should've ended somewhere in Ending 3, since it's the most sad ending where Simon is somewhat still human(only hating doctor and even then it's less severe hate then... What he does to Sophie if you spare carcass).
>open video
>"if you don't know what an iceberg is-"
>close video
Amazing video dude!
I still thoroughly believe that Simon is one of David's victims, due to the monster commonality, and yes, I'm the loser who adopted the joke ending okay fuck
This was an eye opening video
Really cool vid. Keep up the good work
you sound ridiculously similar to simon
i was thinking the same lol but it's so good to hear
This video game would have so much potential if it was adapted in a movie or tv series
Great vid, this game is true horror
I think with the helpline that Simon did call it in reality but it only helped in the short term not the long term.
Since the guy on the phone ignored Simon's pleas for help he did give him the code to procede but nothing more.
Just my thought
that's most likely what happened
@@Errorrdr Still a great video m8 think I might play it again since I have not touched it in like 6 years
i just found this video and i really didnt expect to see kale in the thumbnail of another video
Nicely done video dude
Thanks for this video always wondered about a lot of these
Great video my guy, keep up the good work
I really love this game :D But just to inform you: I think you got the idea of this iceberg video format a bit wrong.
In most icebergs things take a dark turn the deeper you go so that's why I said it
the part of "the carcass is simons fault" has no voice audio from you
24:10 I loved this
but fr tho nice vid
first time i played cry of fear the first number i called was 911 and got the wierd secret thingy lol
haven’t played this since I was 9 can’t wait to play again today
I’m just getting into the game it’s really good :) glad to see stuff about it and learn more about it.
I have almost 200 hours of playtime on Cry Of Fear. See how addicted i am.
pathetic. come back to me when you have 400 hours
