Triss is good for me, Yen is good for Geralt.
See, I gotta disagree. Oddly it was something Kiera Metz said that crystallised what was seeming off to me about Geralt and Yen's relationship; she described Yen treating him like a dog. Which tracks for me; you love your dog, you'd do a lot for your dog but you also expect it to trot along beside you and do as it's told. And that's pretty much how Yennifer treats Geralt. Triss gives him more respect.
@GriffinPilgrim oh 100% agree Yen is pretty shitty to Geralt, I genuinely think she's insufferable. (To the point i always pick Triss in my playthroughs) But I think speaking from perspective on canon, Geralt is also sort of an asshole as well and tends to neglect Yen. I think they're good for each other in sort of a toxic "old married couple who argue constantly but still love each other" kinda way. Idk that's just how I look at it.
Yen is good for nobody. Being arrogant, demanding, and secretive are not the foundations of a healthy relationship.
@@pixelspy5791 Agreed that that's what comes from the books but part of what I like about how they did the games was that they treated it as an evolution of the books rather than a rehash (at least after the first game they did). With some distance from everything Geralt changed as a person (which happens even if he picks Yennifer; he's clearly a more reflective and somewhat more compassionate person than he was in the books). I can see "Wild Hunt" Geralt as someone who has grown and is ready for an adult relationship. Ditto Triss. Yennifer has stayed much the same. So I think it works as canon with the canon of the games.
Sapkowski hates it of course but, well, he gave CDPR the rights and was, unusually for authors, not screwed on the deal so I can't feel too bad about that.
@@GriffinPilgrim I disagree that Yen doesn't stay the same seeing as if you stay with her romance, she gets less prickly with Geralt and becomes sweeter to him. I can understand her selfishness too seeing how much she much she adores Ciri as her only daughter (being the one thing she cannot have as a Sorceress) and seeing how the world of the Witcher is like, I don't blame her on focussing on her loved ones at the expense of others. Also, I do note that a lot of characters who express their low opinions of Yennefer (which kinda reinforces certain players' perceptions on Yen) either have limited understanding of the situation or have personal biases even if some of them are valid.
With Witcher Ciri's ending in mind, I can see the pair working out long term in retirement in Corvo Bianco. I can see post-book Geralt and post-game Geralt getting along with post-Witcher 3 Yen as she certainly has come a long way since The Last Wish.

I literally prefer her personality, like in the meme. It fluctuates between games, but I like where it landed after 2 and 3 (let's be real, in the first one she was just Yennifer substitute). Yen is not a bad choice, but I just like Triss more.

Most fans prefer Yennefer. Especially anyone who's read any of the books. I really like game Triss, but its no contest, especially if you consider what works for Geralt and not just who you (the player) prefer
They've made Triss work for Geralt too, he even says so himself ig when he talks to Siri, saying it's just easy with Triss, there's no fight, no nagging, that it just feels good. Even after reading the books, you're playing the game and both Triss and Geralt changed, Yen didn't.

Yeah anyone that only played the games usually prefers Triss. She was the main love interest in Witcher 1 and 2.
That's my take on it. Triss is what most fans thinks is a healthy positive gf for them. Yennefer is who I think makes sense canonically and given his personality. Triss also is cheating somewhat because she gets whiplash character development from the books and the last two games -- where she's framed either as a real parasocial weirdo, comic relief or an unwitting pawn in the greater power schemes of other sorceresses. One who, by the way, takes advantage of Geralt's memory loss to gaslight him into thinking they were always dating. She sort of gets better, but not by a lot.
She got this lightspeed development or retcon into this resistance fighter who isn't overly clingy about Geralt. And that's the only reason she is competition now. In a vacuum, with a blank slate, she makes perfect sense as a partner. But Geralt has history with Yennefer. And that sort of trumps any other considerations. He already has a bond with her.
If you think Yennefer is toxic, yeah, she is. But it makes sense if you understand her background and she's much better person by Witcher 3 than before. She's jealous, possessive and prickly, but she does genuinely care about Geralt and Ciri and would go to the ends of the earth for them. The thing is, Geralt was just toxic in a different way. He was a complaining manchild and he ran out on her without any explanation while they were getting serious. They more or less both had to fix themselves to start having a functional relationship and Yennefer dies trying to heal him of a pitchfork wound. Their story wasn't about an idealized anime romance, it's a more realistic one that's messy with its ups-and-downs. Two flawed people bonding over shared experiences.
Geralt is also just sort of an M. So he's actually into that sort of behavior with Yennefer and it comes across in their flirting. His sense of humor is very much in line with teasing and being teased back.
As someone who only played the games, I do prefer Triss more than Yennifer, the first 2 games just mentioned her by name while Triss is always there.
Triss also did manipulate Geralt when he lost his memory. i feel like witcher 3 makes her seem much more benevolent than the first 2
She is mentioned so little because Triss actively lies to you to keep you on a leash. She knew the relationship and their shared history and still prefered to stay silent KNOWING that would piss off Yen and would help her get in Geralts pants.
@@Rafalga84 Even ignoring Book Triss (Who is awful), and Triss in the first two games (who is an extension of Book Triss, manipulating Geralt and trying to destroy his relationships), Triss literally leaves you to hang for Foltest's murder. She is aware of what is happening the entire game because she is part of the Lodge of Sorceresses who started the whole thing. She specifically knows who killed Foltest (even if he was going off script). For the entire game, Triss could cave your life and chooses not to. Instead she plays spy against you and passes everything along to the Lodge. People have some weird taste in women.

I think what people don't get about Geralt is that Geralt is an M. He loves powerful women who step on him. You're thinking, "Why does Geralt keep going for manipulative women who were partially responsible for the North going on a witch hunt and being softened for a foreign invasion?" He's into girl bosses who gatekeep and gaslight. That's why.
@@Nice-sp8mx Triss is significantly less manipulative than Yennifer. Triss treats Geralt with respect, Yennifer treats him like a pet; beloved but still beneath her. And Ciri likes Triss just fine, the two call each other sisters. Ciri is obviously closer with her de-facto mother but she has no issues with Triss and if Geralt picks her Ciri is fine with it, just happy he's happy.

Honestly, I'm a loyaltybro too, but Yennefer has cheated on Geralt so many times, and she's honestly a little abusive to him, so I choose Triss. I know in canon Geralt is also a cheater, but when I'm behind Geralt, I don't play him that way.
So in canon, yes, Yennefer is the correct choice. In my playthrough? I not only went with Triss, I bugged Yennefer so much with that fact that she teleported me in the air above a lake lmao

An open relationship implies that both parties consent to the "open" part. At the very least, Yennefer doesn't. She wants Geralt to herself, while also sleeping around.
They have a complicated history but that doesn't really change the fact that Triss actively lies to Geralt for 2 games straight and purposefully stays silent concerning Yen. And since this is continuation of the books, she %100 knows Yen would be pissed off but decides to decieve Geralt and fuck him anyway. She voices no excuses in game aswell.
Ciri was honestly what's missing in both their lives. Yen and Geralt's issues were honestly fixed since she came in. Mostly Yen honestly. Geralt still got around.
Yen went to hell and back for them Ciri and Geralt while Triss was sitting pretty with the Lodge. And then Yen literally died because she used too much magic trying to revive Geralt. And Triss, who was there watching when they were dying, withheld all this for 2 games.
It's apparent which one of them really loves Geralt, and which one just wants to get in his pants. Triss is so down bad for Geralt she's willing to manipulate him and take advantage of him just to sleep with him, in books and in games. Her priorities are clear. Sorry. She's a snake, bro.
