What a nice, simple quilt for Christmas! Anyone would be happy to get a cuddly quilt as a gift. The best part of this project is that it's only 3 hours for a one-size-fits-all quilt for someone - male or female. A great way to use those stashed fat quarters (which I have too many of!) or beautiful yardage stashed fabric. Another great project, Tracy! 🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟
Your so right. I sent this to my daughter what.im making for our 7 grand kids. My daughter texts me and says ".yes , she said they'll love it with the type. Than says. Me and hubby want one for Christmas also".. lol 😆 so now that said it all. Fast gift.
I’m with you about knowing ahead the time it should takes. I work often in 15 or 30 minute time blocks. This makes me want to make a Christmas quilt for everyone in my family.
Thank you! I like the more minimalist styles and I want a cuddly blanket not a stiff quilt. Im also a beginner quilter but I know sewing so this is great!
Hi Tracy this is a great tutorial. When my son was about seven I tried to make my first quilt. Of course it was a hot mess. I had no idea what I was doing now that my son is 53 I want to make my first quilt the right way. So thank you for the great tips all of your tutorials make me understand how to do them the right way. Suzanne
Thanks for this, I anxious to try this! I want to make it one more row and column for the over hang on our queen size, and I have fifteen fat quarters, plus my teal as the blank spaces, not sure yet!😀
Hi Tracy, I absolutely love your videos! I wanted to just share a tip that I use to “tie” my quilts using my machine. If your sewing machine has a candlewick stitch (the little asterisk shaped stitch), one complete candlewick stitch can be used as a tie!
I just made my first lap quilt and was not looking forward to doing the binding, and then I saw this, I went out and bought a sherpa throw and I am going for it, I hope it comes out as good as yours. Thank you, I love everything you do, you explain everything.
I love this I plan to make all my cousins a family quilt for Christmas and this seems easy enough for me as a beginner but fancy enough to think it wasnt easy lol
Tracy, I love 💕 this idea to make all my kids a special Xmas Blanket. I’m fairly new at Patchwork but I do know how to put this idea together from the earlier years. I have fabric and ready to start tomorrow. Thanks 😊
I made a queen size quilt for my grand daughter for high school graduation. I used a plush blanket for the backing. The project was so difficult when it came to the backing. Your quilt made me some encouragement for using the plush blanket. Thanks for sharing this.
*_Kami...minky/plush can be tricky if you are adding it to the back of a traditional quilt. Tying the quilt together is how they used to do it years ago. Tying is very easy and quick✅_*
@@TheSewingChannel I had used one of the fleece blanket, king size for a queen blanket. I machine quilted and since it was so big machine could only do so much. But I think it was pretty good for my first.
I just saw this video and you have given me such inspiration with using that plush blanket. I want to make my 4 best friends a lap quilt. It is our 50th High School Reunion! We have been friends since seventh grade. I know when people see us they see old, chubby, grey haired grandmas. They can’t see the five giggling girls 👧 we can.
I love your story....that would be great to make them all the soft quilts....these are the best quilts....and people will actually use these quilts because they are so comfortable....so drapey and soft💛
*_LOL 😂so funny!!! Claudia...you had better get busy then LOL ! If you start now...you could get 2 quilts done in one work day✅and then everyone you know can have a quilt for Christmas!_*
I made this one in a large queen as just a light weight spread for Florida! I just put a lightweight backing on also, and many of us are tying it! It is 90 x 108 in Corals and teals!
Another great idea. So beautiful to see your subscriber count growing. When I found you it was like 3-400 and an ironing board cover then your creative facemasks. You are so sweet, talented and a wonderful teacher.
Your quilt turned out so pretty! The soft blanket makes such a difference....l did that with my granddaughter's I Spy quilt and she loves it. Thanks for sharing!😁
It's very beautiful but I will never finish that in 3 hours not even 5 hours thank you so much for sharing I am a beginner and I have made a few quilts just lap size thank you
I'm going to make this quilt for a niece my question is: instead of trying it off do you think stitching around the blocks will work? I don't think I have a needle that will fit the yarn so I was thinking just stitch around them?
@@TheSewingChannel okay Thank you. Have you ever heard of using seran wrap on your machine when sewing certain fabric to prevent the drag? Or did I hear that from you??? I don't remember???
I’m a complete novice to quilting, but my toddler has asked Santa to bring him a very specific quilt for Christmas so looks like I’m getting into it! Only problem: I don’t have a sewing machine. Would it be possible to hand sew a smaller version of this using the same basic steps? Or am I setting myself up for failure?
Well Aurora....hand sewing will definitely take longer....Depending on how much time you would spend each day at it......If I were you-I would check the thrift stores for a used sewing machine🤷🏻♀️
Looks like a great quick project. I'm wondering how it handles washing. My cotton quilts shrink quite a bit. Did you have any trouble with the quilt top shrinking more than the plush blanket?
I am always looking for quick quilts for charity. I've never worked with minky. Does the backing you used (or minky?) go through hot dryers very well? I'm thinking of the quilts we make for donation to nursing homes. Thanks for the video! :)
Absolutely washer/dryer safe...the one in the video is used daily at my house...and it's been washed so much that I can't even give a number. Did not change at all!✅
What is the brand of your sewing machine? I made a "rag" bedspread for my granddaughter's bed using my old Kenmore (41 yrs). My Kenmore is in a cabinet, so making the bedspread was a challenge, but I did it. My granddaughter has just about worn out her bedspread by washing it so much. Her fur baby sleeps with her, hence, the constant washing. I guess it's time for another bedspread or quilt. LOL And I'm not a tip top sewer. I'm just someone with a desire to do things.
What kind of machine thread did you sew the blanket to your quilt top with. My local Quilt Shop owner told me that Polyester will cut cotton; so, I have been avoiding polyester threads. However, later that same Quilt Shop owner tried to talk me into buying Minky backing fabric (exter wide fabric). I did not buy it; because, she taught me not to use polyester when I bought my machine from her. I now don't trust her.
*_That is very interesting that they would tell you that. I use "So Fine" by Superior Threads. It is polyester and is my main thread for everything. "So Fine" is one of the best threads for machine quilting (in my opinion of course)-It works beautifully in my machine...I have no problems at all 🤷🏻♀️maybe try it in your machine and see for yourself? What kind of machine do you have Arvetta?_*

Just a suggestion - when done tying quilt use fray check on the knots to keep them from coming loose. It works great.

I laid my blocks to the side, sewed them together and *voila* 20 years later, I still have one square. #truestory
This I may be able to do. 👍🏾

I'm going to make this quilt for a niece my question is: instead of trying it off do you think stitching around the blocks will work? I don't think I have a needle that will fit the yarn so I was thinking just stitch around them?
I would try a test block first. Sometimes on plush...it will drag the plush...✅
@@TheSewingChannel okay Thank you. Have you ever heard of using seran wrap on your machine when sewing certain fabric to prevent the drag? Or did I hear that from you??? I don't remember???

Looks like a great quick project. I'm wondering how it handles washing. My cotton quilts shrink quite a bit. Did you have any trouble with the quilt top shrinking more than the plush blanket?
No problems washing at all. I have washed it probably 8x since I made it. It gets used a lot because it’s so comfy💛
Love this. My question is what dollar store has a minky blanket ???
*_They call them "plush" I think...I bought mine at Dollar General. I have linked some plush blankets that will work in the description box✅_*
Where can I buy your rotary cutter and is it good for authritus?
I cut off access minky with pinking shears.
How easy is that? Love this.
*_Super easy!💛_*
Tracy it's fabulous? Did you wash the fabrics and/or backing blanket before cutting?
*_No t's easier to work with non washed....✅ I like the "crinkle" after wash look that it gives when you don't wash prior to sewing together✅No_*
What stitch length do yo use??????
2.5 ✅
Did you put batting in it?
No batting✅
