      Hi Peter, thanks for the kind words :) . I m glad cause that is the idea of the channel, to help and explain properly to people that may not have great technical experience so as to do the tasks on their own, step by step. If you want stronger hand guards, there are already some available on the market and known to be tough. Hit me on fb if you want details about that or anything else. Thanks, The Doc

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dimensions are not enough. My advise it to remove the Philips bolt and the metal weight from your bike and go to a local hardware store. In this way you can ensure proper length, width and also proper conical shape of the bolt head to ensure it fits to the weight opening correctly.

  • @kkiwi54

    Unscrewing the Phillips screws holding the bar weights is much easier if you turn the bar weight at the same time

    Great vid. Let me give you an advice. Apply gently some silicone grease, or neutral vaseline inside the handlebar before insert the full set of rubber-bushings, etc. It could prevent to deteriorate rubber bushings over time.
    Also, a question. Could you let us a link in order to buy these long allen head bolts?? I need to replace my OEM philips head bolts, they look like older than they are...

    But how strong are the OEM hand guards? Can they take a fall without breaking a lever? Will they stand up to moderate off-road abuse or are they just wind protection? (I’m asking because my bike has not arrived yet and I’m buying all sorts of parts in anticipation)

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay Whoisit The OEM are not even good for wind protection. It all depends on the fall, angle they hit, etc. Yes the after market choices are better to protect your hands but it also depends on the fall, or what use your bike is for. If you are planning extreme use then the hand guards are not they only weak link you should change. As an example, if you have the 650, the suspension is also not for extreme off-road stuff. Hope that helps.

    • @jaywhoisit4863
      @jaywhoisit4863 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doctor Vstrom I live in Kenya and the roads are everyday off-road. I will be upgrading the skid plate and installing crash bars. Maybe radiator guard also. The hand guards look like plastic junk but maybe I just use them until they break? I’ve not actually seen my bike yet.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jay Whoisit yes use them until then. If the roads are so bad then maybe you should considering using other tires more oriented for off road use cause else in dirt and gravel or off-road roads with the stock tires it easy to fall.

    • @jaywhoisit4863
      @jaywhoisit4863 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doctor Vstrom that’s a good advise. The bike comes with Battlewings. I think they will be shit in Kenya. Maybe some Mitas E07 will be better.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jay Whoisit you will see stock tires are more road oriented and they are not good for off road. Be careful until you change them.

    I think it would be better using button head allen screw plus wash instead of flat head one on the right hand lever. Thanks anyway your video is clear and objective and helped me a lot. Best regards from me and my 2019 yellow 650 XT Vstrom.

    • @John_Ridley
      @John_Ridley 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, the flat heads on the end were nice but the flat head and washer on the brake lever look trashy, worse than the original screw.

  • @Hipopapika
    @Hipopapika 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, but I think your left hand guard is not installed properly. At least that's not how mine one is installed. On the top of the clutch lever pivot bolt you have two nuts. Mine one sits between the two bolts there therefore I just remove the top one to remove the hand guard and don't have to slide out the pivot bolt. That also sorts the space issue you solved with a washer. I am talking about the top of the pivot a 2:43. There should be one more washer between the two nuts and the hand guard plastic should sit between the two nuts therefore when removing the hand guard for like clutch adjustment you only remove the top bolt and can remove the hand guard not having to slide out the entire pivot bolt.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey my friend. The bike was bought new and came with the hand guards installed by the suzuki factory. The issue was there. What i did afterwards fixed the issue. Drive safe.

    You mentioned that the OEM hand guards were not the best. Which brand of hand guards do you recommend?

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zacharry Jacob any hand guard that has metal frame around for protection from falls, hits, etc and can also be extended with additional parts to better protect from the wind/rain. There are at least 2 very well known Brands with these characteristics.

      That JIS, not getting stuck to words is of bad quality. Suzuki cuts corners in some parts like that for costs reasons. Dont believe me? Take whatever screwdriver you want and untight, tight several times to torque value. Then you will see

    I would suggest the Phillips is incorrect. Being a Japanese bike, it’ll use JIS screws, not Phillips. JIS driver would work better, and not chew out the fastener.

    Just a reminder that the phillips looking screws on any japanese motorcycle are not really phillips. They are JIS. Learn about them here;
