Interestingly, Land Raiders are only used by Astartes and Custodes, no other faction in Imperium is permitted to use them, despite being very common model across Imperium during the Great Crusade. When the Horus Heresy started and numerous important Forge Worlds were lost, Emperor decreed every Land Raider conscripted for Astartes use. After Heresy ended and Emperor got stuck on his throne, he never had a change to rescind his order and it is upheld as a holy decree even ten millenia later.
Which is kind of sad since I would love to use a land raider for guard, since, you know, WWI.

On the Primaris in a rhino thing: There is actually a joke in The Gate of Bones where a squad of Imperial Fist Intercessors are stuffed in a Sisters of Battle Rhino. They talk about how, in all the battle scenarios Cawl prepared them for, none involved riding to battle hunched over in a vehicle too small for them.

Now need a goofy Space Marine Chapter that is just clowns. And a Rhino can hold twice as many Primaris Marines than is physically impossible and some Warp Chaos Magic going on. Yeah...I'd have to make them a Chaos Faction or make a counterpart that is lol.
I like to imagine the Primaris marines are too stuck up to ride in a Rhino. Ogryns are bigger than Primaris marines, yet 4 of them can stuff themselves into a Chimera.

The treads that are angled up on the land raider and ww1 tanks are designed so they can travel over trenches. Instead of getting stuck when they tip forward: the up angled part snags the the other side and it pulls itself over

In case they're curious about early tanks; the treads and "bow" (they were a navy project originally) are on purpose.
They were so that they could crawl over barbed wire and trenches. They effectively bridge them, singlehandedly, with the bow crashing down on the other side of the trench when the balance shifts. Their purpose was very different to modern tanks.
Why would that design exist in 40k? Someone at GW **REALLY** likes WW1.

The inventor of the Lasgun, Merrick Gun, coined the term “Las” as the innovation was the last of his long line, and he had a very difficult time pronouncing hard consonants, thus, it was his “las” invention. His "las" "gun", if you will.

In actuality, the Sisters' organ missile thing is basically an MLRS, functionally. Using different lengths of launching tubes and different caliber missiles might actually produce the effect of having different tones to the individual launches, thus creating a playable rocket-organ.

There're at a great bit about the Land Raider in the book "The Great Work" where Cawl chuckles as he remembers the way the guy who made the tank would stomp his feet and say "No! It's LAND'S Raider! NOT Land Raider!!"
Other fun fact: "tank" was actually the code name the allies used before they were unveiled in order to trick the Central Powers into believing they were just moving big storage tanks around

The Astartes were named after Amar Astarte, who in turn was named after a Greek goddes of war and sex, Hence the name "Adeptus Astartes" Translates to Masters of warfare, or in the case of the Emperor's Children, Eternal Sex

The First World War Tanks are designed for crossing trenches hence the rhomboid shape . More ground contact spreading the weight. It all fits the WW1 aesthetic of warhammer battles. The guns on the sides designed to fire down the trench as they cross.

Said trench-crossing is seen in the bronze-age 40k FPS 'Fire Warrior' - where both successful and failed trench-crossing is seen in the opening level.

Edit: Yeah, in the books a Chaos Marine gets flattened into paper by one of those antigrav tanks.
Cos he thought it was actual anti gravity tech like what they had in 30k, so rolled under it to stick a bomb on it, but got squished because repulsor plates push the tank off the ground as opposed to anti grav plates which actually make the tank float

@@sequinbandit2097 In a throwaway bit of fluff in an old issue of White Dwarf, some Harlequins steal a Land Raider and decorate it like a big silly parade float to taunt the Space Marines. The Imperials immediately divert all their efforts to destroying the desecrated tank, and lost the fight as a result.

My favorite part about the "land raider" situation (I think it was in the gods of mars series, or more likely, the cawl novel) was the quote from arkan land himself going "those idiots! They should have called it 'Land's Raider' or 'Land's Speeder!' That one even hovers!"
The Astraeus Super Heavy Tank is like putting a GDI Mammoth Tank and the Chinese Overlord tank together, make it float, and put it in the 40k universe.

If only GW also showed some love to Land Raiders, most iconic 40k vehicle since RT. The fact that Primaris Crusaders can't embark on Land Raider Crusader is heresy in itself. Land Raider datasheets need proper update and love.
As a CSM player who gets even less versions of the land raider, it's sad that my big purple box has to keep getting sidelined. It doesn't even got any of what made it special in 8, and while sure Armor of Contempt probably helps that 2+ save the lascannons and THB isn't enough to justify it taking up an 8th of the list when fighting local players. All it needs is something like Assault Ramp to make it less crap or something in the current generation, gimme an excuse to carry angry terminators in it.

If I remember correctly in the book Dark Imperium an Iron Warrior attempts to dive under a impulsor tank and strap a bomb to its underside. Unfortunately, the gravitic field was on and he was reduced to paste.
The Mastodon also completely opens up on the back as well, acting as a portable gate too. The idea is that you drive up to a wall, burn your way through with the melta cutter, bust through with the front end, open up, dump 40 Marines, then open up the back and let even more Marines storm through.
At this point they are trolling us by making the thumbnail show Blood Angels
WW1 tanks were designed to be bullet proof and traverse through no mans land and over the trenches. That's why they're that shape.

I really think that, of the 30/40K tanks, pretty much all have 'Chode Syndrome'; Wide as fuck, with 0 depth.
Like, just stretch every tank out 50% length-wise, and they all look acceptable, but most are just _especially_ fucked pugs in my opinion.

The retcon with Arkan Land is the single most pointless stupid thing in 40k.
Nah. I'd say Erda was way worse. She could have been super cool. Instead she suddenly showed up and died to Erebus... She was the second most poweful perpetual, only surpassed by the Emperor. The genetic mother of primarchs and astartes, basically a female Emperor. Then she dies, having contributed fuck all to the lore, exept muddle it...
TL;DR: She was basically the Empress of the Imperium of Man. She did a stupid, pointless appearance and died to Erebus. She is such a pointless waste of a character. :(
@@probablythedm1669 not at all. Erda's entire existence is entirely lore breaking and itself devalues the gravitas of the Emperor. The point of the Emperor is that's he's so unique and above humanity and even the Primarchs that he's unfathomable.

So my guess is somewhat correct. Land Raider (or as Akhan Land prefers, Land's Raider) is the tank used by Space Marine as their tank base. I was so looking forward to the monkey-scorpion hybrid that he created.

@@thomasolympia3731 Arch Magos Arkhan Land lived during the Great Crusade era. He created a 'monkey' with venomous scorpion tail tip (because he literally couldn't fathom why spider monkey would need such long and grappling tail for, so it must've have an offensive use).

They forgot to mention the Lascanon + twin plasma gun loadout for the razorback. It was really good at killing heavy infantry but the power requirements kept causing the tanks reactors to overload. As such, the razorback would either shut down in the middle of battle and be destroyed by the enemy, or the reactor would blow up and destroy the tank with everyone in it. Genuinely interesting and pretty hilarious lore

I'm on the process of making my own chapter specific land raider variant I'm calling it the land raider Annihilator, replacing the troop capacity for a Imperial knight grade plasma cannon, and with two plasma cannon sponsons. Its to be used as a frontline seige tank
Sounds Awesome, I thought up an Iron hand variant of the Land raider ares called the Land Raider Morlaag still equipped with demolisher cannon but twin grav cannon hull turret, twin flamestorm sponsors + pintle assault cannon for fun.
I could not help but just start laughing hysterically at the pipe organ/missile launcher thing.

33:20 oh you can make fun of the German SuperHeavies, believe me when I say that the Tigers were only good because they rushed em through with heavy Armor and excellent Guns....oh, and when the Tigers first debuted against the British in the Africa Campaign they were all swiftly knocked out by British AT Guns. No, Tigers weren’t invincible. Funfact: The Germans encountered MAJOR issues against the French and Soviets because they had tanks like the Char B1,KV-1&KV-2 which had juuust enough Armor so none of the Standard German AT Guns could penetrate them. It’s my own Theory that the Germans got traumatized by early encounters with Tanks in WW1 and early encounters with Heavy Tanks in WW2 and they struggled to penetrate them with a lot of their equipment(yeah Artillery and Field Guns in WW1 could clap the cheeks of WW1 Tanks but those took time to deploy, and had issues hitting their Targets), and they were like “if those inferior Bolsheviks and French had success with heavily Armed&Armored Tanks then imagine what us superior Aryans could do with Heavy Armor&Guns!”(dont personally believe any “race is superior, just capturing the thought process of what some literal Nazis may have had)
Anyone that thinks the German Big Cats other than the Panther were genuinely well designed Vehicles is either ignorant,biased and possibly naive. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing the German Big Cats but those vehicles had so many reliability and mechanical issues, meanwhile the Allies didnt rush most of their Tank programs as much as the Germans did and so they were able to have much better balanced Vehicles overall.(yeah T-34s&IS’s were all a bit shoddy, but they weren’t anywhere near as different to maintain as the German Big Cats.

Query. This is my first time encountering grav tanks so please bear with me.
In dark imperium, there was a part where the ultramarines and their successor chapters (and primaris marines) had to charge through a nurgle-ified swamp/bog/river because the guardsmen can't. Why did they not use grav tanks? Was it because the Robot Girlyman "somehow" did not have those, but has a legion of primaris marines? I just find it hard to believe his strategic genius sometimes even when he has that creepy Archmagos Belsaurus Cawl backing him up.

You know, the Rhino is one of the most interesting things in 40k. It’s one of the few cases where the vehicle that inspired it has more wacky stuff floating around the internet than even the most over the top 40k version.
Even the mighty pipe organ Rhino pales in comparison to the majesty of the Aerogavin.
I love that the outlandish Warhammer 40k weapons/vehicles can still be compared to absurd designs of IKEA furniture.

I kinda wish they revamp the Capitol Imperialis for the Sisters, I believe Sisters got it in ultimate apocalypse (or some other mod, I don't remember). The idea of a literal full mobile cathedral city on titanic threads really would fit the Sororitas aesthetic.

The mastodon is awesome as it's designed for sieges, using that front melta array to blow a giant hole in the wall, drive into it and open the doors, then open the rear hatch as well so guys on foot and dreadnoughts and use it as a tunnel, while the little command center on top is protected by the anti air gun

I truly believe seeing the sisters of battle assault campaign on a plant of Heretics, would have everybody all in for the rest of the ride.
The idea of seeing a large scale battalion of Exorcists “performing a refrain” and it’s one long scene of carnage and synth techno space Catholic organ work, would be something I’d remember to my dying days.
I once won an competitive RTT with an Iron Hands Astraeus just surrounded by characters giving out buffs, and imperial fists thunderfire cannons in the back.
The astreus had like a techmarine giving it "hit on 2s, 1 free hit/wound/damage reroll" and could heal it for flat 3 wounds a turn, a librarian giving it +1 to it's saves by casting psysteel armour (which back then ALSO worked on the void shields) and who could ALSO heal it using reforge. It was insane.
Now that it's got armour of contempt I'm actually tempted to break it out again...
The Mastodon is so big, that in the "Dark imperium" books Roboute Guilliman rides in one.
