Now, let's start making this house look like a house with some walls! Woo!
---------------------Welcome to Our Maine Homestead!
We moved onto 200 + acres of raw land in northern Maine in September of 2018. We’re building our off-grid homestead, literally, from the ground up with our own four hands.
Our goals are to share our simple, self-sufficient, and sustainable lifestyle using traditional, old fashioned on purpose, and natural methods the same way our grandparents, great grandparents, and those who came before them did.
Along the way we hope to pass on the best parts of this lifestyle to our daughters and to all of you. We want to share the experience of how we live and the challenges we face as we build our dream homestead, raising animals, growing our own food, and working on the many projects required to live this lifestyle.
We’ll show you, not necessarily how to do things, but how we do things. We’ll also share video series that go deeper into specific aspects of our lives and what it’s like to live the way we do in the 21st century.
There’s a saying, “There’s a first time for everything.” Here, there’s a first time for EVERYTHING, because almost everything we’re doing here, we’re doing for the first time.
While our life is simple, it’s not always easier. It’s a lot of hard work, but we were raised knowing that nothing worthwhile comes easy and as you’ll see there are way more positives than negatives.
Thanks for watching!

Interior walls look great.
I wish I got your husband ‘s skills and talents , i could see it’s become a beautiful house now after the front wall installed, I can’t wait to see you are move in , great channel ❤❤
i saw the thumbnail this morning and went "Oh! They have roof AND outside walls going now! TH-cam's algorithm wasn't putting your stuff in my feed, so I'd missed a few episodes. It's looking great!
This house is going to be amazing. I'm watching 3 different post and beam style builds. 2 are from a barn kit style build. I like your build the best. The others are following blueprints and you are following a jumbled mess in Eddie's head 😅 I love it. Wish your vids were longer. But that's ok. Wish you guys the best. Stay safe and get eer done!
Excellent progress! I can't wait to see it in person a week from now. At this rate, my basement apartment will be ready by Thanksgiving. 😊
Wow the house is looking great! Oh and I loved hearing Emry playing with what I will assume is the same dumptruck my little man loves as well ❤
Yes! It is her mighty dumptruck :)
Interesting how you are working from top down and inside out thank you for sharing your journey we have land in maine and will be building soon
Great job ya'll! Questoin: Is the house oriented North/South (i.e., front to south, back to north)?
It faces South!
I built my Log Cabin, all the interior walls I used 1 x 6 , you always stager your seams, and never, I mean never face nail the 1by, Nail into the Tung hide the nails, only face nail when no one will see them. Why face nail when everyone will see them. Take 20 min. and build saw horses so your not working on your knees, don’t make sence
No one will see any nails or seams on our 1x t&g. That's the beauty of wrap and strap style! Addressing your other concern, we have saw horses but this system we have is much simpler so we choose to work on our knees. It's also a great system for getting lots of squats in throughout the work day so win win!
