Porch Build // Finishing Out Ceiling Boards // Waterproof Tyvek Roof Wrap // Off Grid Home Build
Tag along as we finish putting together the porches which will help us move scaffolding around so we can finish working on some roofing projects! In this video, we finally finish up the tongue & groove ceiling boards and then apply the Tyvek waterproof wrap! The wind was not very helpful for that project but Eddy got it done regardless!
---------------------Welcome to Our Maine Homestead!
We moved onto 200 + acres of raw land in northern Maine in September of 2018. We’re building our off-grid homestead, literally, from the ground up with our own four hands.
Our goals are to share our simple, self-sufficient, and sustainable lifestyle using traditional, old fashioned on purpose, and natural methods the same way our grandparents, great grandparents, and those who came before them did.
Along the way we hope to pass on the best parts of this lifestyle to our daughters and to all of you. We want to share the experience of how we live and the challenges we face as we build our dream homestead, raising animals, growing our own food, and working on the many projects required to live this lifestyle.
We’ll show you, not necessarily how to do things, but how we do things. We’ll also share video series that go deeper into specific aspects of our lives and what it’s like to live the way we do in the 21st century.
There’s a saying, “There’s a first time for everything.” Here, there’s a first time for EVERYTHING, because almost everything we’re doing here, we’re doing for the first time.
While our life is simple, it’s not always easier. It’s a lot of hard work, but we were raised knowing that nothing worthwhile comes easy and as you’ll see there are way more positives than negatives.
Thanks for watching!

Wanted to ask how milking the sheep was going? I wanted to eventually switch to hair sheep for milking so just wanted to check in to see if it was going okay.
We missed the auction this year but would’ve loved to run into you folks. Enjoy this beautiful weather! 😊
There's always next year!!!
I'm going to the amish auction north near the border tomorrow. I'm excited! I've been forbidden from buying anything living though! ;p
🤣🤣🤣 We won't be making it to that one this year, but have fun!!! Let me know if you get anything good!!
I was wondering if your park adventure was going to end with ice cream across the street from the park. 😁 Sweet Emery was too tuckered out from a long day of supervising the construction site, navigating the SxS trails, and swinging at the park. Tomorrow can be a Craig's Clam Shop stop for a treat! ❤
You have no idea how close we were to ending with a big cone 🍦 from the Clam Shop, but in the end I decided to forego it... next time though!!!!
Where did you get that Lumber? Damn near clear.
If there is one thing I could suggest it would be lose the bulkhead and build a doghouse over it with and entry door.
Poor Olivia…those ducks just love her. 😂
One of the OG's! LOL But at least now it's only one on one, not three on one! HA!
It's looking better and better. That looks like a cool wheeler that Emery has.
Drove right by there last Friday! Love stopping by the Pioneer place when heading to Presque Isle!
Seriously we watch you pack food - nope
They sell food there
You definitely need to keep an eye on us…we were left unattended and bought a bunch of wheat berries. 😅
It looks like a great day was had by all! I especially liked the quick change transition with you and Emery. Reminded me of the original Wonder Woman TV series. 😁
I’m so impressed what you did , the house structure looks very strong , it looks beautiful, surrounding with an amazing view❤
If the tongue and groove gets wet at the same time it turns into a warped nightmare if it's not covered up.
We've been doing a pretty good job at keeping it protected during bad weather! We definitely don't want to deal with warped boards!
Phello y'all you hiys have put your entire heart and soul into this post and being built new house for the homestead and it looks amazing. I Glad that i been watching your progress for the last several months on. And we can't wait to see next up date . Have a blessed week
❤❤omg thank you so much for this!!! One of my good friends sent me a lot dehydrated starter and with your video I now have active starter 24hrs later!!!
How long from butchering did they sit in ice water before you cut up and canned.
I typically wait 8-12 hours or overnight.
Fantastic work - I'd be very proud if I were you as well! Thanks for sharing - very inspirational :)
Damn that's a huge place
Keep up the great work. Watching with interest from Virginia.
looks like it’s coming along nicely. Are you doing SIP panel walls? What part of Maine are you in?
SIPS were a bit outside our budget being that they are not cheap! So, no. No SIPS. But, we are in Aroostook which is northern Maine.
Eddy I learned a little secret put your roost level it stops alot of who gets the highest . Check out carving a path chicken coop.
We try to stay out of chicken politics 😉
I didn't know that Amazon delivered chickens. 😂 and now the chickens have come home to roost! Great repurposing of the wood. Barnwood Builders, Maine Division. Keep up the great work! 👍
Unbelievable nice ❤
Tillamook Cheese sells the whey to Protein Bar, Powder makers. Very valuable. Learned this in a Job interview.
Nice to see you both back and making good progress BestWishes from England UK
Thank you so much!!
Great work, you guys are building a really strong, beautifully designed house !
Very nice video
th-cam.com/video/dqvcdHr5Qes/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1lTjc6baR9GCMoJm
The grade stake method many TH-camrs use is just plain dumb. All they had to do was snap a chalkline on the walls and make it go lower to the drain.
Wife is a cutey
Hope it was square as You will maybe not detect with a Timber Frame.
Promo*SM 😆
Looking like a million bucks.
Ich bin offensichtlich die einzige, die entsetzt ist😮
The new video guys of the roof going up with the rafters great job . Another amazing video. The little one look like had fun at the park😊
Just found your channel now trying to catch up watching all your videos 😊
You two are something I know the beams are heavy but it doesn't stop you . I really enjoy your videos . Be careful work hard you will get there
Thank you! We appreciate it!!
Hey you too I just seen you guys on TH-cam and decide to watch you I kind of like the Beam work that you guys are done can you tell me what size beams those are and what size house you're doing how what's the dimensions on how wide and how long is it keep up the good work it looks beautiful man I love it
The posts and beams are all 8x8's. And the house is 20x34 with additional porches and decks so it will be a nice size for us!
Not to be a broken record, we just found your channel. We are also in this state, a little south of you on the Kennebec. You are doing a great job and you have your work cut out for you. Rock on! 😊
Thank you so much! We appreciate it!
Just discovered your channel. Love the content. Of all the homestead channels out there, your home is the most beautiful and skillfully crafted. When you said "forever" home, you weren't kidding! Can't wait to see more. Thanks.
I've watched so many videos on how to do this and I've tried multiple times but every time I fail because it grows a bunch of mold.
broken seeds and environmental conditions cause mold issues, check seed quality, pre-treatment, humidity, and temperature.
I have a couple questions for y'all, first one is can you just build your home without the county coming out to inspect it? and second is how are y'all liking it up yander in Northern Maine compared to the South? I'm really thinking about moving up there because it's just become over ran by people in South Carolina now...
The county we're in does not oversee building permits, inspections, etc. That is left up to local governments which is nice! We absolutely love living in the north vs the south!
Keep up the good work! ❤👍
Hi, beautiful Emery! ❤️🤗 Great job helping Mom and Dad with The Homestead build. Great leaders lead by example, and Emery is no exception. Keep them on schedule with a 😊. Her pitching arm is in regular season form already. 😁 I miss you all and hope to see you this summer, if not sooner. ❤
I just built a greenhouse with raised garden beds. Can I just add worms directly to the soil and therefore they would continually add fertilizer naturally plus kind of till the soil?
Sure!
Its an adventure for sure. I hand built our cabin mostly solo (the plans were all in my noggin) and June will be our leave the apartment, move into the camper and finish the house date. Need to install drain pipe and the radiant heat system and the grey water system. And then we have broilers coming mid June too. No pressure. Looking forward to watching your progress.
Hi, looking forward to making this salve, but could you please tell me how much bees wax and shea butter you used and also how much coconut and olive oil you used? Thanks so much
1 oz each of beeswax and shea butter and then I filled the jars about half and half with olive oil and coconut oil with enough to cover the dandelions. Hope that helps!
