The best thing I like about being off grid on my 60 acres is that it doesn’t matter if it takes me 3 days or 3 weeks to do something as there is no time restraints and as a retired service technician that is truly a blessing to work at your own pace. Good luck to you all!

I mean there is somewhat because depending on where you live you kind of need to get things done before winter because it can be a bit harder to get food during winter because less animals out and less plants growing but other then that yeah you have a pretty big time limit
That is my dream to once be able to be nearly 100% self sufficient and sustainable. I’d like to wakeup and work at my own pace in my own space. Eat food that I’ve grown and raised. Such a satisfying and rewarding feeling. I am pushing towards it. Aloha👍🏼🙏🏼🤙🏼

Beautiful film. It's not only the Portuguese who shared their farmhouses with animals. The Welsh Longhouse was designed to do exactly that, with the thought that the heat given off by the beasts in one half would help to keep the family warm in the other (that's the theory, I've never actually tested it). Recycling pallets is a great idea, the cost of new wood at builders' merchants is astronomical. You could build yourself a large flat trolley (like a kid's go-cart) to transport heavy things from the road to your homestead. It's amazing how manageable heavy things become once you get some wheels underneath them. I would level the track with a pick, using earth and stones from the high spots to fill in the ruts. The Sprinter will roll it down. Onwards and upwards!

Growing up we recycled everything that neighbors would scrap. Our family home became 80% neighbor scrap lol. They actually would come over and just ask us first if we wanted their scrap before tossing it into the transfer station. We lived off the land farming, hunting, fishing, shrimping, crabbing, going into the jungle and scavenging for wild yam, and other bounties it would provide. Time moved by at a snail's pace and the only stress we had was that from each other's personalities lol. It would all change when we discovered Netflix, cable tv, "convenience". It's been 12 years since moving from the island to the States for work and living the corporate slave life. I have discovered there can be more stupidly stressful things and this video has reminded me of my roots and the important things in life. I simply want to say thank you and it may be time for me to return home and become the ultimate hunter gatherer once again.

I have not missed a single part of your journey. It's so close to the way we started. Keep at it, after a while you will be doing jobs you WANT to do not jobs you HAVE to do. That makes all the difference in the world.
I realize the budget is tight and currency is an issue but with Christmas being right around the corner maybe you can sweet talk Santa (or Father Christmas if you prefer) into bringing you a sturdy garden cart. One where the sides are removable Moving your IBC's would have been a breeze once they were balanced on it. You will find it more useful than the wheelbarrow over time. If he won't spring for that, you still need a decent garden rake especially if you plan on planting some crops of your own. It never hurts to ask!
Recap videos are hard. A lot of editing and a great deal of time is required. You did a GREAT job with this one!! Keep smiling, keep working and keep making the videos we like to see!

Dan Laura to help you out wen moving those big totes around again re-invent the wheel tale scraps make wheel say20 inches in dimeter your choice make an axle out of wood post and then hook one wheel on each end of axle make two axles and then put beam in center so you have a 4 wheel cart. when done it should look like a huge H with wheels. you could either push or pull it. it should roll fine if you make the wheels thick enough.

If I can help you with one tip get approximately 12 foot length of rope or cloth and tie it together to make a loop now put it through the pallet on one side of the ibc then use the rope cloth to carry the ibc by putting the rope over your shoulders you’ll find it a lot easier to carry big things as your using your body to do the work not your arms and back.
Keep up the good work and get yourselves sorted to temporary sleep in the barn at least you can have a wood fire to warm over the winter months. Waiting for next episode. Xx

You didn't hear this from me ;P but I would use a long lumber/2x4 as a yoke between two people and tie the IBC Totes to the lumber. It'll be a leg lift vs an arm lift. Awesome content!

Love the videos and following your progress. When building a wall using wooden studs it works better to build it on the ground and then stand it up and brace it. Repeat until all walls are up. Works great on walls 12 feet or shorter. This will also help to make sure all is square. Great job ya'll

Great progress guys. Laying the basis for a special place to call home. It must be so satisfying everytime you walk in that gorgeous wee outhouse.
Here are musts you need when renovating in a remote area aside from obvious supplies for the renovations:
1. a platform dolly (long to push large objects).
2. bungee cords to wrap around transported items
3. electric power drill and long screws with flat top heads to use with solar panel hooked to inverter.
4. cheap solar panel with inverter with at least same watts as power drill you use
5. a pack of wash clothes to clean your hands and surfaces as you go
6. towels for showering in nearby rivers during renovation
7. powerful flashlights (two) in case power runs out
8. candles and matches also needed as the ultimate backup for light
9. paper plates for food
10. disposable forks, spoons, knives
11. napkins
12. inflated mattress (two) in case once gets punctured and bring flat tire patches for it
13. bed sheets depending on the weather
14. sunscreen lotion if needed for the hot sun
15. sunglasses with strap so they won't full off your head when bending to fix things
16. a large trash can bin to put all these things
17. a large square plastic bin with cover to keep your food in to not attract animals with food scent
18. a hand compass to find your way back to camp
19. a hat to keep the sun off your face
20. extra underwear
21. books to read
22. solar powered TV (yes they do exist. Just Google it for options). It's connected to a solar panel.
23. electric grill or stove top that connects to solar panel inverter.
24. pots and pans
25. food and water bottles (lots of it)
26. phone charger for your phone (many unbelievably forget it going out to remote places)
27. a crank up radio for emergency alerts (just spin a crank on it and it works with no electricity or sun)
28. a backpack for hikes
29. a bicycle (electric is better) good to get help if necessary
30. a container with snout with extra gasoline
31. an ax to cut down wood for cooking fire if necessary and for renovation wood cutting
32. a tent (optional for camping or temporary sleeping arrangement during renovation. Large house tent is good
33. binoculars to see if someone or an animal is approaching you from far away
34. commercial heavy large trash bags for renovation and food leftover debris
35. large masking clear tape. Comes in handy for many things
36. zip ties fantastic to strap down tools to walls, etc.
37. toilet paper
38. Bleach liquid is crucial to disinfectant rotted and mold old house renovations
39. work gloves are a must
40. hand sanitizer
41. liquid soap
42. tooth brush and tooth paste
43. large foldable picnic umbrella to keep in the shade is so necessary in the heat
44. solar powered Fan (yes they do exist too. Google it)
45. a Styrofoam large container to keep food and drinks cool as long as possible
46. deodorant so you won't scare wild animals away when you lift your arms
47. for men shaver
48. scissors
49. feminine products if necessary
50. emergency help Flares in case you get into real trouble and get stuck somewhere
I'm sure I forgot many things. What else could be included in this list people ?

You need something on wheels such as a cart, dolly or hand truck to help you to move heavy and bulky things around your property. You can use use planks as temporary "walkways/driveways" to smoothe over rough patches. Keep going.👍

Living off the grid is hard in a conventional manner, you need to be strong and hardworking for an all-day work.
We just moved in to the countryside from the City and started a homestead. We don't have water from the district but we have a deep well. Our drinking water came from a spring which is a littlebit far from our house, phone signal is dead but we have starlink internet working.
Life is not easy, we just started growing our own food so we need to wait months before we make food out of the garden, market is far and we only have 1 motorcycle to transport our supplies.
But this is it, this is our goal. Living off the grid without losing our corporate jobs.

I have pull up bars and calisthenics stuff etc, but your quick easy setup got me wanting to do the same in the garden.. very inspirational video for me and I bet a lot of others.. However! I am curious?? how were you charging all those batteries for the power tools...
Glad you liked and cool that it inspired you to add a calisthenics rig in garden. We have solar panels on van our camper van has a off grid electric set up
LOL! Love the gradual step up from using 'what we had' to new shiny battery tools I might want to buy. Not knocking good tools. They make a big difference. But I think in time you'll be firing up an excavator to complete a new on ramp for your diy home build project.
