Idk why they nominated Eren's VA rather than Grisha's. Eren barely said anything out of monotone this season, while Grisha's performance in 4x20 was heartwrenching.
It comes down to how one would define good voice acting. Is it portraying the exact emotion of the character or is it hitting the high emotion lines that resonate to the viewer. Eren is tired with all the bullshit he's been through throughout the series so it turned him into this callouse person. It would've been out of place if he did anything but. Grisha on the other hand, has been pushed to his wit's end so it makes sense for his VA to react accordingly and boy did he do a great job at it.

The Rumbling was such a banger opening, my most played song of the year, and it served as a thesis for Erin with where he's at in the story. And without spoiling anything, if you can create a thesis statement for Eren in this moment, then you're also essentially creating a thesis statement for the entire story of Attack on Titan (which is one of my favorite stories ever). Also, with it being hardcore rock it serves to disprove a lot of the stereotypes people still have with what anime is i.e. childish/immature. The opening with its visuals, lyrics, and genre are as far removed as childish/immature as it gets. Best opening of the year imo.
CSM and Bocchi would absolutely dominate this year if they were included. I can imagine why they decided not to include them. Just imagine best ED and 3 out of 6 are definitely going to be CSM lol
Fall anime is just way too powerful Even going with the "popular" anime alone, it has MHA, Bleach, Mob, SpyFamily and Blue Lock And if we try going for the "niche", there's gundam, eminence in shadow, akiba maid wars and pop team epic
I think something that really works against it, its that the 3rd act is quite a downhil from the previous episodes... and the last episodes usually leave a bigger overall impact, epsecially in a mystery show
Summertime Rendering also couldn’t be in the Awards because of rules Crunchyroll made (not for the same reason that Fall 2022 isn’t there, I think it has something to do with Disney+ not releasing the episodes earlier).
The fact that Shadows House only got one nomination for anime song and wasn't even nominted for best score when it has one of the most atmospheric is just absurd.
Probably because it wasn't actually a new song, in fact the show made it popular. It was actually from a radio station inside the game. If only they released the game and the show together, it'd actually have broken the internet.
@@informatikabos5481 You mean part 1 of the 1st Season? 86 never had a Season 2 lmao, it’s just 1 season split into 2 cours. Though part 2 is easily better than part 1 in terms of art direction, symbolism, and storytelling.

@@TropiKalBoards the thing that completely turned me off about aot is that at the end it became a competition of who can do the most eugenics/genocide and it felt like that flew over the community’s head and where all “oh erens doing nothing wrong blah blah blah” instead of going “yeah there’s no good people in this situation.” 86 (as far as the first season) made a better narrative as it’s about people who where forced to become soldiers for a country that sees them as subhuman, and that backfired on the country as the legion advanced and shin and his group were finally able to make the choice of fighting on their will in order to not let their dead comrades down and find a meaning for themselves, all while trying to save humanity, and the country that gave them a helping hand after leaving the 86th district.
The funniest scene from My Dress-up Darling was when they talked about that game "Slippery Girls" in public and strangers thought they were talking about something irl. You're right - uncle from another world is the funniest that's come out in a long time, I'd say.
Chisatos VA substantially contributed to Lycoris Recoil‘s overall quality in my opinion (besides the stunning animation, engaging characters and very well written and entertaining story). The performance was so far away from any kind of generic trope acting that I‘m actually kinda surprised that you didn’t put some respecc on her name.
Hadn't thought about this until later, but since Urusuei Yatsura wasn't on the list for best OP and ED i hope that its there next year. Those songs and also especially with the animation FRICKIN SLAP.
Kevin penkins deserve every praises and compliments man some song that stood out to me were old stories, belaf's lullaby, narehate and many more hes just so good
Honestly I've stopped caring about the awards simply cause the popularity contest always wins. There's a minority of anime fans who vote purely after watching most of, if not all, the anime's nominated. Whereas majority just vote on the big titles purely cause they didn't watch anything else. Not to mention the nominations don't do justice at all to the amazing animes that came from 2022. It is kinda crazy how different this list would be if fall was included. Like almost every category would be completely changed and opinions would be completely different.
it was a bit confusing to know what was eligible for nomination or not, but as I was going through the list I felt like there were multiple categories where the nominated anime didn't even fit and a lot of others were missing.
Ignoring the fact that fall season hasn't been included (which includes top notch quality like CSM, Mob Psycho 3, & above all, the real legend - Bocchi), the nominations for AoTY still sucked. Only Cyberpunk edgerunners here makes sense, other than that the ones which should actually have been nominated are definitely Kaguya Sama S3, Made in Abyss S2, and Summertime Rendering (which surprisingly Crunchyroll completely forgot even exists). Ngl, nominations this year are even weaker than the previous few years.
Summer Time Rendering and SAO: Progressive weren't nominated due to only recently coming out legally. Thus they missed the cut like the Autumn shows. Which BTW if they can't include those because of time restraints, just move the awards!
Everyone talking about demon slayer this, made in abyss that, or summertime rendering not being nominated at all, but what about the opening for Yakuza's guide to baby sitting? Op for harem in the labyrinth of another world? Op for shikimori's not just a cutie? Op for bastard? I don't know why I even look forward to these awards every year 😭
No offense, but this is a popularity contest, none of those are even close to being popular enough. I was surprised Shikimori even got any nominations, considering how mediocre the reception to it was. Personally, the only opening out of those that I even remember was Bastard and that was cause I was interested in it before I realized it was a continuation of an old series that I didn't want to bother watching.
you know that voting contest is just the competition of popularity and have nothing to do with the quality. Most people don't watch all anime in the season and just vote for the one that they watch. And most people pick their anime to watch based on popularity.
So I'm confused because the voting is closed, but you can look at the winners, even though the livestream announcement hasn't happened yet. The only tab that can be open is the Anime of the Year tab and it shows thar AoT won. You can't open any other tab to see any of the other winners, and something tells me that this is a fuck up on Crunchyroll's part and they didn't actually intend of this to be accessible yet.
Taking out fall 2022 was a mistake, because now they just automatically spoiled who is going to win anime of the year 2023, and that's Bocchi the Rock.
In the west, they pretty much have a monopoly as far as trying to seem like more then a company, as other companies that bring anime to the west are generally more corporate and don't even really try to appear like they aren't most of the time (Amazon, Highdive, etc.). I imagine there is other places that do anime awards, but they just aren't going to be big enough for people to really notice them.
@@otter1268 I mean don't they already have that built into their website? Nothing would be surprising as they'd just go off of the popularity on their website.

@@crud8177 True the ending was kinda wack but ngl I can't think of a better way to end it so I was happy enough still was such a good story
@@crud8177 last episodes are great lol, I prefer the first half a lot more but they definitely didn't bring anything down and it's still aoty contender
@ConClasher3 I agree with ya. The ending felt like another plot armour for the MC. Other than that, it is still my best anime of 2022.
I'm pretty sure that because it just released in the US it wasn't eligible this year. It was in Disney prison and just released on Hulu so it had better be in next year.
Thank you for mentioning Summer Time Rendering!! It was one of my favorite anime this year and so few people are talking about it.

Garnt on Made In Abyss for AOTY: I don't want to wish depression on people
Also Garnt: I'm voting Edgerunners, it made me depressed.
No it’s all chainsaw man
@@izakiko not in comedy, no
Fall anime is just way too powerful
Even going with the "popular" anime alone, it has MHA, Bleach, Mob, SpyFamily and Blue Lock
And if we try going for the "niche", there's gundam, eminence in shadow, akiba maid wars and pop team epic
Because they are paid to make sure shows like AoT win in multiple categories. Can''t have any strong competition.
Aot would easily win still
Summertime Rendering was incredible. Can't belive it's flying under the radar so much
To be fair, it was hard as hell to watch without some Yar-har-har.
Disney is proven evil once again.
The fact that it's only available on Disney+ might be a big factor. I only heard about it from Garnt and will definetly give it a try.
The fact that Shadows House only got one nomination for anime song and wasn't even nominted for best score when it has one of the most atmospheric is just absurd.

He's fighting it coz he don't want to vote anything AoT MERELY because it's popular.
The fact that "I really want to stay at your house" - Cyberpunk: Edgerunners wasn't in the best song category was a crime.
Probably because it wasn't actually a new song, in fact the show made it popular. It was actually from a radio station inside the game. If only they released the game and the show together, it'd actually have broken the internet.
i really hope 86 wins something, it needs more recognition, its easily one of the better good shows of this year
Yea ... though first season of 86 was way better, the whole "lets ptsd kids fight because they know nothing else" reeeeallly felt a bit too edgy.
@@informatikabos5481 You mean part 1 of the 1st Season? 86 never had a Season 2 lmao, it’s just 1 season split into 2 cours. Though part 2 is easily better than part 1 in terms of art direction, symbolism, and storytelling.
@@informatikabos5481i prefered the second cour. Honestly, the anime wasnt all that great, untill those 2 episodes, which were a work of art.
@@informatikabos5481 you really didn’t understand it lmao
Thanks to that popular demon slayer ruins it.
19:15 This year we also had 86 episode 22... and it's a real shame that it didn't get nominated as it's really a piece of art
All I want to see is a descendant of Tojiro has a rom-com with Bocchi while defending her rock band. The animation will melt our minds.
I think Yofukashi no uta would have won anyone, but I really feel like Koumei deserved a nomination for best ED. Kibun Joujou is an absolute banger, and it does that thing I love with theme songs where it evolves over time as the cast grows, it was pretty much the only ED I listened to all the way everytime I watched the show
Dude i love kibun joujou no one ever talks about it
Kaguya deserved an ANIME OF THE YEAR nomination
and My Nonfiction for the win😭
Once you reach a certain amount of years watching anime, only about 1-3 series a year will actually captivate you, eventually you rather spend your free time browsing TH-cam than watch some 7/10 anime for the millionth time

they should rename it shounen anime awards at this point
Aot is my favorite show 100% but goddamn it hurt my soul not voting for 86 for best drama. That show is incredible and doesn’t get the hype it deserves. It made me feel things that no other show has before
It got snubbed hard. I don't understand how it wasn't more popular
It’s def a better drama than Aot
@@thisninja11 eh, to each their own. Personally, i think aot edges it out but it’s a fair take to say 86 is better, because it genuinely is that good
@@TropiKalBoards That's the thing AoT is just edge.. no substance
Sao progressive would be best anime move if it was nominated. It was a really good time
Everytime Demon Slayer wins an award, I die inside
If Made in Abyss doesn't win an award then I'm going to riot
The funniest scene from My Dress-up Darling was when they talked about that game "Slippery Girls" in public and strangers thought they were talking about something irl.
You're right - uncle from another world is the funniest that's come out in a long time, I'd say.
the edit of "IT'S ABOUT CHILD ABUSE" just caught me off guard
I've said it every time and I'll say it again:
Summertime render not being anywhere to be seen should be a fucking crime
Chisatos VA substantially contributed to Lycoris Recoil‘s overall quality in my opinion (besides the stunning animation, engaging characters and very well written and entertaining story).
The performance was so far away from any kind of generic trope acting that I‘m actually kinda surprised that you didn’t put some respecc on her name.
Ty for mentioning summer time rendering. It just doesn't have enough people talking bout it
Mushoku Tensei season 2 was such a banger. Haven’t seen made in abyss yet.
Pedo isekai
Made in Abyss is amazing, and the soundtrack is as well (Kevin Penkin makes so very good soundtrack for any anime is involved with)
Where the fuck is my Bocchi Award man, it deserves Anime of the Year.
10:44 " the funniest thing about comedy, is that it's funny " - anime zone 2017
it was a bit confusing to know what was eligible for nomination or not, but as I was going through the list I felt like there were multiple categories where the nominated anime didn't even fit and a lot of others were missing.
"Where is Rebecca?"
She's here... and there... and there... and a little bit is over there, too.
2:58 THANK YOU! Definitely deserves it. Jojo needs a win.
Ngl, nominations this year are even weaker than the previous few years.
why is summer time rendering not there :( its so fucking underated
> LET HIM COOK
"Where's the SAO film?"
> WHO TF LET THIS MAN COOK
Summer Time Rendering and SAO: Progressive weren't nominated due to only recently coming out legally. Thus they missed the cut like the Autumn shows. Which BTW if they can't include those because of time restraints, just move the awards!
Maybe the Anime Awards shouldn't take place immediately after the year is over then. Summer Time Rendering was my favorite anime of 2022.
I like how the chat says Genshin Time after the list is done
Everyone talking about demon slayer this, made in abyss that, or summertime rendering not being nominated at all, but what about the opening for Yakuza's guide to baby sitting? Op for harem in the labyrinth of another world? Op for shikimori's not just a cutie? Op for bastard? I don't know why I even look forward to these awards every year 😭
I mean, Made in Abyss was heavily slept on this year
Because they are a sleepfest
Cyberpunk and ds clears
No offense, but this is a popularity contest, none of those are even close to being popular enough. I was surprised Shikimori even got any nominations, considering how mediocre the reception to it was. Personally, the only opening out of those that I even remember was Bastard and that was cause I was interested in it before I realized it was a continuation of an old series that I didn't want to bother watching.
you know that voting contest is just the competition of popularity and have nothing to do with the quality. Most people don't watch all anime in the season and just vote for the one that they watch. And most people pick their anime to watch based on popularity.
Without the Fall lineup, this award show is pointless.
kotaro is the one who needs the most protection
So I'm confused because the voting is closed, but you can look at the winners, even though the livestream announcement hasn't happened yet.
The only tab that can be open is the Anime of the Year tab and it shows thar AoT won.
You can't open any other tab to see any of the other winners, and something tells me that this is a fuck up on Crunchyroll's part and they didn't actually intend of this to be accessible yet.
Smashing that like button for choosing Uncle From Another World as best comedy! Thank you Garnt!
Was the song "I Really Want To Stay At Your House" not nominated as best Anime Song because it was all in English?
the song wasn't written specifically for the anime and has been out for years so i think thats why
Made in abyss season 2 is by far penkins best soundtrack to date so far. He's my favorite composer by far
7:54 famous last words
Taking out fall 2022 was a mistake, because now they just automatically spoiled who is going to win anime of the year 2023, and that's Bocchi the Rock.
Can we have someone else do the next anime award? Or do they hold the monopoly over anime awards?
In the west, they pretty much have a monopoly as far as trying to seem like more then a company, as other companies that bring anime to the west are generally more corporate and don't even really try to appear like they aren't most of the time (Amazon, Highdive, etc.). I imagine there is other places that do anime awards, but they just aren't going to be big enough for people to really notice them.
@@nicholasjacobs6605 what about Myanimelist
I'm pretty sure Crunchyroll started the Anime Awards.
Nothing stops other companies from running their own, I guess they just aren't interested?
@@otter1268 I mean don't they already have that built into their website? Nothing would be surprising as they'd just go off of the popularity on their website.

How are there so many categories, and then the same, like 10, animes over and over?
Alright I’m gonna say this if no one will. I don’t skip anime openings or endings. I watch them over and over again even with HxH 2011 I never skipped lol
I did skip at the beginning of anime watching career but then I went to go back and rewatch some of the openings and endings well I regret skipping some of the bangers 😢 so now I made a promise to never skip no matter what 😂

What I do is watch the OP and ED for the first 3-4 eps and judge from there. Most times, I either instantly love them or at least like them enough to watch every ep. Rarely, I'll just skip the OP and/or ED after that 4 ep threshold.
HxH I never skipped, Naruto I only skipped one of the Shippuden OPs and watched the rest, Bleach TYBW I skip the ED etc etc

Rebecca FFS she didn’t even appeared at the show. Hayasaka saved their relationship
I don't understand the hate for popular anime. I understand that Demon Slayer is mediocre (because it is), but in animation it's definitely top tier. AoT is the killing it in many categories but each time it's on the screen I feel like you keep thinking of things to justify not voting for it, MERELY because it's popular. It's kind of ironic that you want smaller anime to get recognition and yet you didn't even watch Kotaro Lives Alone, which is arguably one of the best stories in a long time. Not surprised you voted for One Piece in best continuing series 🤣🤣
