I purchased the truck from the original owner’s daughters, who inherited the truck 20 years ago. They drove the truck a little for the first 16 years or so and just enough to keep it up and serviced. When I bought the truck, it had not been started for 3 or 4 years.
Prior to starting the truck, we drained all the fluids and flushed the systems.
From there basically a frame on restoration process

New Water Pump, New A/C Compressor, New Upper & Lower Radiator hoses, New Heater hose, new belts (all 4), New Spark Plugs and New Plug Wires, New Distributor cap & Rotor, New Thermostat & gasket, New Air Filter, Drain and Flush Drivers side fuel tank & new lines, (Passenger side… new fuel tank, sender, strainer, and fuel pump), New Fuel Filter, Clean & Inspect all Brake Lines & Fittings, 2 new Rear Wheel Cylinders/ Clean Drums, 1 Front Brake Rotor, 2 Front Wheel Seals, Clean & Inspect Wheel Bearings, Replace 2 Axle Seals & Pinion Seal, Service Transmission including fluid & Filter Kit, Complete Chassis Lube. Also, New passenger side power window motor, new headlamp dimmer switch, new correct interior carpet, new wiper blades, New Body Side Molding from Brothers, New Exhaust & Performance Muffler (converter deleted), underside complete detail frame and front and rear, spare tire cleaned/inspected/re-installed after detail. New Wheels & Tires Road Force Balanced and mounted. American Racing VN215 Classic Torq Thrust II 1-Piece Mag Gray Machined Lip 15x8 all around with Cooper Cobra GT P255/70R15’s with all new lug nuts. All paint was buffed out to a mirror finish (4 STAGE)
This is a KILLER truck. It turned out better than I had hoped for. It rides, drives, and performs excellent in every way. I would not hesitate to drive this truck cross country or anywhere right now. It runs strong, Blows Cold A/C, smooth easy ride, great looks, and a true pleasure to drive.
There is some paint patina on the lower white as you will see in the pictures. There is no rust anywhere, only the weak lower paint which has been buffed over and is not dry at this time. It gives the old truck a little character. The interior is very nice and original although the dash does have two horizontal cracks on the top of the dash. The dash is not dry and too good to replace for me.
What's the difference between a C10 and R10?
Answer: Chevrolet switched their normal naming in 1987 from the K series (K10, K20, K30) for four-wheel drive trucks and C Series (C10, C20, C30) for two-wheel drive trucks to the V series (V10, V20, V30) for 4WD and R series for 2WD (R10, R20, R30) This same change was made to the Suburban and Blazer and the GMC.

Square body Chevy pickups are extremely hot right now. And even more so the 1-year only 87 R10's because they are the final year of the square body pickups, and the first year of the fuel injection. This 1-year only TBI V8 is highly desirable among truck enthusiasts.

R10 is the same as a C10, Chevrolet switched the letters because of something having to do with the new body style. In 1987, they were called Rs and Vs instead of the usual Cs and Ks. R10 meaning 2wd, V10 meaning 4wd.

1987 was the last year for just the regular cab pickups "half tons & three quarter tons only" but the one ton regular cab pickups on the other hand were still in production up through 1989, & same with the crew cab pickups, Suburbans, K5 Blazers, & Jimmys except they stayed in production up through 1991.

I have a 1987 Chevy Custom Deluxe long bed. I love it. I do not want a short bed. Although my 1995 Silverado has a 6.5 foot bed. Thanks and take care.
