Most of the things he mentioned are issues with the earlier 2 series that has the N20 motor. Stick to 2017+ for the B48 or B58 and it will treat you well. Parts are more than a Japanese car. I would like to know whether the steering is similar to the 3 series (same year)in terms of feel and how heavy it is please, or is it lighter, 3 series has heavy steering?
I own a 2017 240i and it has adaptive suspension. The steering is light in comfort mode (maybe too light with a little soft spot in the middle) and firms up in sport mode. In sport it is too heavy for a parking lot but better than comfort at high speeds.
That's not the new 2 series 😃But seriously my 2009 Z4 30i has cost me only oil changes brakes pads and new tyres in the 4 years I've owned it. The car is now 14 years old and totally reliable more so than my 2017 Golf! The new drivetrains in all formats from BMW are pretty bullet proof!
Can someone on here please tell me if i should buy a 230i xdrive or not. I have a friend who sold his 3 series bmw due to lots of problmes and 1 that was going to be a 10k fix, it was a 2017 or 2018 i think. Would this 230i be a reliable car long term given the fact i keep my cars for 8 to 10 years. Or play it safe and buy a camry?
Those are very different cars. Its up to you what you think is worth it. Also why X drive when the Camry is front wheel? Test drive a 230i rwd. Rwd has better steering, suspension and handling. Even better braking with less weight. If you can live with something less fun after driving it, don't buy it. It has to feel worth it to you. You could always get a TRD Camry with the v6. Or an Elantra N, civic type R, etc.

I've owned a e28, two e34s, a Z4 and now a e60, and I've never had the constant and expensive disasters that I've see on your site regarding these cars. Of course, I do my own maintenance and anticipate problems. The one thing universal with folks who bitch about their BMWs are those that are constantly running to a dealership and then complaining about how the vehicle costs them so much money.
Own 1999 328i love it run it until the wheels fall out around 165,000 yes I did had some tiny oil leaks but that was around 100,000 miles. I miss the old inline 6 but Im planning to purchase a 2 series.
I've heard one of the main reasons for BMW's sudden improvement in reliability is their partnership with Toyota in the Z4/Supra projects - Toyota simple wouldn't accept BMW's products as they were and pretty much demanded BMW step up their quality to meet Toyota's standards. Kind of makes sense when you realize just when it was BMW's reliability started to improve.
You people should spend more money looking after your cars. The first 2 series is one of the most reliable coupes around over here; loads have been sold, our roads are pretty bad and congested so are harder on the cars than a life in Germany.
What do you think about a used reliability of 2020 330i xdrive with B48 engine which has 13k miles on it for 37kUSD fully loaded? Or should I get the new 2023 330i xdrive?

@@japanwatchconnection bmw is literally the best when it comes to aggressive performance, nobody tops them on the streets especially the ///M engines these vehicles are just not for everybody, because they require immediate maintenance, and attention, when a bmw engine low oil light comes on, the average dummy thinks it’s the best idea to top off the oil level, and this is exactly how to damage the engine, because you absolutely cannot top off your oil levels without a dipstick, so bmw low oil light means, you need to do a complete oil change, topping off dirty oil that already peaked its viscosity is a recipe for timing chain failure, running old oil on a cheap budget, you get more friction, oil won’t lubricate or keep the engine cool during hot operation, and this is why bmw is not for broke folks, if you daily drive bmw, and cannot change your oil every two months, leave these machines alone, get a Kia 😆

I had 6 BMWs and 1 Mini Cooper. Its an absolute blast to drive (ok probably because its lowered) . Best car since my 2004 X5 w the 4.4.
Would you recommend purchasing a 2018-2019 740i xDrive or same year Audi s8? Which is more reliable or better overall car?
Had a 1.8 turbo, mini. Ran great till about 50k miles, and then the frequent oil changes started to happen, time chain issues, carbon build up, etc. God rid of it before spending more, repairs were never cheap.
Great review
Bravo
Thanks a lot for watching Craig.
What about a 220i 2014?
Is it bad for daily drive?
Great video
I’m looking to buy a 6 series, can you recommend the best year/model/engine for reliability & longevity?
TIA!!
Any 2011 and newer 640i. Avoid the v8s and cars over 80k miles.
@@jw6188yep i believe you’re right but I think you meant to say 2012 and up
Can I ask what years you recommended to buy and which to stay away from?
Probably stay away from earliear year models and focus more on 2017+ model years
Yes paddle floppies lolol Excellent content, Great video as Always!!
Haha, thanks so much. Cheers
nice. But didn't they come out with the new, less attractive, more angular design for the newest 2-series coupe? It has 255 hp and 295 ft-lb of torque.
Yea on the gran coupe only and FWD
I’m not going to lie I wanted a 2 series & have been driving around every everyday in a bmw 1 series 2012 se manual model for last 8 years got it with 20k on the clock now has 50k on the clock has had a few issues along the way a coil spring went once and last winter 🥶 the epc unit went and wouldn’t start from Cold however ran as normal when warmed up hopefully we will get through this winter season ( I think 🤔 I will go for a new generation 1 / 2 series next time around just saying lol 😊
Nice. Hopefully the next one is a little more reliable and fun
According to the traditions configuration should be 220 I for the 2 liter engine
Nice
Out of the curiosity, are the M2 or M3 with a Manual transmission any good?
BMW: we got two major drivetrains that are ULTRA reliable.
Toyota: 🤣🤣🤣
Haha
I would like to know whether the steering is similar to the 3 series (same year)in terms of feel and how heavy it is please, or is it lighter, 3 series has heavy steering?
I own a 2017 240i and it has adaptive suspension. The steering is light in comfort mode (maybe too light with a little soft spot in the middle) and firms up in sport mode. In sport it is too heavy for a parking lot but better than comfort at high speeds.
Not current G42 issues.
I would agree but the V8s are still a bit risky
I wish to hear more about this particular model and its issues, if any, than you're talking too much about all BMW issues in the past :(
The 2014 series 2 coupé is a good car??
A little rough on the interior, still Love my 228i.!!!.
Looking at a 2014 228i here in Virginia USA. This channel is legit. I have an 83 supra that runs like a top but i dont want to drive everyday. Any thoughts on the 2014 228i??? Any thoughts would be helpful.
i was looking into those as well. asked on a few forums. they said to stay away. the n20 motor in those early cars are problematic and tend to eat timing chains and then blow up. the reliable motors are in anything past 2017. they'll all be marked as 230.
wrong engine.
@@francostrong202 N20 timing chain issues were fixed in 2015+ 228i models. 230i models feature the newer B48 engine.
Skip all N20s
Where's Bimmer-Life (aka David Jean) to start harassing anyone who has anything critical to say about BMW. He raved about his M2
I have owned 6 BMWs of multiple generations so my authority stands. Thanks
@@ECPPOnly six!? So most of them lasted more than one year... 😆
About X-drive... When do you need it? Foremost when it snows in the summer! In the wintertime you have winter tires, with or without studs.
A second case is when you don't trust your driving skills!
So I always have a towline with me, because as we know all don't stay on the road at all occasions. Then I have some kind of X-drive use! But the towline is more useful than any X-drive...
@@ECPP lol, same. 20yrs of owning them and I'm done. Much like a hot girlfriend, you can only put up with their crap for so long.
What do you think of the new 2024 X5 50e? worthy buying it?
Beautiful vehicle but I would go 40 series instead for more durability and almost as fun drive
@@ECPP Excellent call! B58/ZF8 combo!
The m2 is pretty sick . They’re maintenance and repair costs keep me away.
The M3 is amazing to drive especially the competition version

Just buy the M240i or 340i for a lot less money with the bullet proof B58 motor! Perfect daily drivers, and seriously fast and fun as hell!👍
@@mikelowry5012 Price is reasonable for what you're getting! Keep that in mind if you can afford one!
G20 330i from 06.06.2020 - Turbo failure at 22507 miles :D
After watching this video, I think I'll stick with public transport as it may be more reliable and get me to where I need to go.
Very Good.
Who going to buy which car?
This all depends on the orientation of that person.
We need to know what we really want and can like.
When we follow what friends own or see on the street can be a huge mistake and pain.
To make a judgment we need to see all kinds of Cars Forums
They're going to discover about 70% of people who do not own a TV and spending social life only saying or asking unknown
About 30% we find know something or really good knowledge contain in their brains.
Nothing is for free * At the same time do all car owners perfect and take care of their own?
The biggest mistake is when car owners become dependent on mechanics' opinions.
Do mechanics are really kind and trusty?
Businesses changing people's personalities and navigating direction where can get $$$
Never use words expressing your selves my Mechanics told me = same time he owns you.
Thanks for watching and yes different strokes for different t folks
Wow, bit of a first, in other words, first time this guy hasn't blanketly call all BMWs pieces of crap.
It’s a good er
I've owned a e28, two e34s, a Z4 and now a e60, and I've never had the constant and expensive disasters that I've see on your site regarding these cars. Of course, I do my own maintenance and anticipate problems. The one thing universal with folks who bitch about their BMWs are those that are constantly running to a dealership and then complaining about how the vehicle costs them so much money.
this guy really explains well haha
Thanks
Own 1999 328i love it run it until the wheels fall out around 165,000 yes I did had some tiny oil leaks but that was around 100,000 miles. I miss the old inline 6 but Im planning to purchase a 2 series.
Bmw's are to lease. No one with money buys one for the long haul.
One would think that could have helped but the B58 was already used well in advance of the collaboration with Toyota.
You people should spend more money looking after your cars. The first 2 series is one of the most reliable coupes around over here; loads have been sold, our roads are pretty bad and congested so are harder on the cars than a life in Germany.
If u have a good income get any german car,
If ur income is about average stick to japanese or korean cars,,that's it
Yes yes yes
THIS IS THE OLD 2 SERIES
Cheers
Better buy Malaysian Perodua Bezza. Far cheaper than BMW !
Really?
What do you think about a used reliability of 2020 330i xdrive with B48 engine which has 13k miles on it for 37kUSD fully loaded? Or should I get the new 2023 330i xdrive?
Honestly for that price I would personally gone unless they tacked on some extended warranty
The more expensive models are junk, so imagine this "starter" pile must be a real rolling turd. The ultimate bankruptcy machine. The best place to store any BMW is on the dealer lot.

@@ECPP My brother had two X6 SUVs and they were in the shop all the frickin time. The last one was repossessed and good riddance. He loved it when it was fixed and BMW performed tons of warranty work on it (electronics) because it is a money pit!
The 2015 and older N26 2 series is much more reliable than the 2014 and older N20 engine you keep on saying is so horrible, it's very similar to the B48.
The 240i is identical to the M2.
Well…..
Let's just call it a good compromise between performance and reliability. The sweet spot between 230i and M2.

DIY TH-cams are your friend.
