FACTS
Pete Rock's Return of the SP1200 album sparked my interest in this beautiful machine
Since 2010. This is the first proper uniquely official beat making video I seent on youtubez. Man that was pure bliss, start to finish. I was so tired of "How to make a HIPHOP Beat Tutorial". You don't get tutorials in hiphop, you follow the feeling and make it.

its almost to the point you want to get one and do it like that yourself, until you realize im so digital i cant go primitive now, i need my daw. but i will start using 12 bit on all my shit from now on
Thats one of the first beats ive heard in a long time made by a producer these days that sounds legit oldschool mad props most people these days don't seem to have the patience to mess with equipment like that

Aint about equipment its about money u can basically do the same shit in fl with a midi keyboard chopping samples etc. I never owned a sampler but i hope to one day preferable the asr10 or mpc 3000

fl studio can't give you that 12 bit lo fi feel....nothing can, 1200 is magic machine
The limitations force you to be uber creative with these oldskool samplers.
And limitations in your wallet prevent you from using them. x)

The 12 bit monster. It's crazy how the sample artifacts add that warmth. I bet they didn't realise how nice it was back then. Now we have that sterile perfect software sound.

Software was around it was just too expensive. Hardware was cheaper
I only like computer software for recording and editing for beat making I still like to sounds of hardware
Software was cheaper.
The issue was that software was very limited, even though hardware also was limited, until about 1995. The primary limiting factor for both was memory, as RAM and ROM were super expensive.
that mutilevel delay type trick for the second horn is pretty creative

What's a multilevel delay trick? What does it do, was hard to work out in the vid
@@aabapowerful8681 Multilevel mode means that one sample is layered on every trigger button with volume from low to high, left to right. So when you play that horn sample 8-7-6-5-4 you get the main sound, then 4 steps of delay trail.

Just like the 808 and 909, some of these samplers are just magical, the AKAI 950, the MPC60 and the SP1200, all different sounds, all feels "real", never could replicate this with software

Being born in the early 2000s and liking this music is extremely lonely. My dad got me jamming to this music before I could even walk, newer hits are mostly always disappointing.

Eu. I haven’t tried it myself but you could try pitching up the snare a few semitones and maybe add a little reverb (cathedral/hall reverb, low cut) if the snare doesn’t already have a reverb in it. Although to have the grimey SP sound you’d have to use some bitcrusher plugin.
@@Olovlig hmm i also thought about layering the original snare + one pitched 6+ semitones and one down -6 semitones. Then run the pitched ones thru some filtering and applying some plate reverb on them .
