Well at the time of the cancellation of it cancellation the f22 cost about the same as a base model f35 and would have been set to become cheaper as production was streamlined

+PhantomTiger105 Agreed it's an incredible feat of engineering. Also Harrier and F35 can both vertically take off of they're empty. With combat load they don't do it with either type really as it's too much strain on the engines.

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AFNS)
Years ago, Lt. Col. Brad Bashore flew against the F-22 Raptor as an F-15E Strike Eagle pilot. Now, as an F-35A Lightning II pilot at this year’s exercise Northern Lightning, it was his turn to deliver fire from the clouds.
“It’s not a fair fight, and that’s exactly what we want for our adversaries,” said Bashore, the 58th Fighter Squadron commander. “To be on the offensive side this time and getting a chance to employ (those capabilities), I couldn’t ask for anything better. It’s like fighting somebody with their hands tied behind their back.”
Bashore and his wingmen at the 58th FS, which belongs to the 33rd Fighter Wing, have been employing the capabilities of the F-35A, scoring as many as 27 “kills” in a single sortie at Northern Lightning, a large force exercise where fifth- and fourth-generation aircraft engage in a contested, degraded environment.
“I remember the first time I flew against (fifth-generation aircraft),” Bashore said. “It’s a change in mindset because you can’t target anything on your radar because it’s not there, and by the time you do potentially find something, it’s too late and they have already shot you.
“It’s frustrating, but at the same time understanding that it’s our asset is invigorating and gives you a lot of hope for the future as far as how successful this platform is going to be.”
While sharing many similarities with the F-22, the F-35A’s main advantage is its robust suite of sensors that give it the ability to process and share information with other players in the battlespace. These capabilities make the F-35A more lethal and survivable than any legacy aircraft, and eliminate any safe space for the enemy to hide.
“We took off out of Madison (to join the fight),” said Lt. Col. Bart Van Roo, the commander of the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 176th FS, which has F-16 Fighting Falcons. “We went to our simulated airfield out in the far part of the airspace. As the two ship from the northern half of the airspace we turned hot, drove for about 30 seconds and we were dead, just like that. We never even saw (the F-35A).”
Van Roo has been flying the F-16 since 2001 and as red air during Northern Lightning for 13 years. Red air is a formation of aircraft acting as the enemy for air-to-air tactics training.
“For us, as a capable fourth-generation fighter, we are used to being able to see and counter most adversaries that we have out there when we are playing red air,” Van Roo said. “Versus the F-35, it’s completely different. The most difficult thing is we just can’t see them like they can see us. It can feel like you are out there with a blindfold on trying to find someone in a huge space.
“We have been reliant on visual pickups of the aircraft only, which is extremely difficult to do, and at those ranges we are already dead before we could shoot back.”

Monster LMA I just read about that. Badass missle, says it will mount on the F-35, however its nearly 4 meters long and the STOVL's have smaller internal bays because of the lift fan. Sounds like the missle has link 16 if it does then I would mount it on a typhoon and let the RAF F-35B guide it to target 120 miles ahead of launch point. Good stuff

This thing is basically a replacement for the flying fortress if you think about it (A ass kicking bomber that can protect itself) The f-35 is scary as hell in Un-steathy mode most people do not read about its payload and distance out of stealth mode if Think about it{ if ten of these took off to bomb your house they would make it because of there internal fuel tank is huge now add a external fuel tank and cruise 1000 mph without afterburners They are super fuel efficient and you got one quarter of a million pounds of precision munitions right above you}. Even if half did not make it the five remaining ones still got 115,000 lbs of precision bombs. Of course this would only happen after the same jets cleared the area in stealth with there measly 8000lb payload that people actually think is not very much. People that think that need to stack 5 small cars on top of each other and think hell that plane cant carry shite internally. Wrong! it can!

I must say to Lockheed Martin that F-35 JSF is a great plane, certainly more capable than normal F-16, but, I do want to say I'm kinda disappointed for F-35A and C, because I think they needed TVN like in Sukhoi Su-30 family for more maneuverability, though yes, dogfights are kinda obsolete, I think it's best to have something to fall back on, especially when your enemy carries much more armament, have higher thrust to weight ratio, longer range, and most importantly, real omnirole capability(capable carrying more than 2 A2A missiles and 2 A2G munitions), and I'm talking about the MiG-35 here, not Su-35S yet, overall, I think F-35 has a great potential, maybe made the A variant more dogfight capable?

How many people still remember that F-16 now belongs to Lockheed?
      So, the story is that.
Lockheed F-16 wins Lockheed F-35 in dogfight. For those who unable to buy a F-35, F-16 have shown itself as a good deal too. Then Lockheed can ask for more capital investment for this still under development F-35 to perfect the dogfight, and sales more F-16 in the same time. Whatever F-35 loose in dogfight, Lockheed wins, and taxpayer loose.

    • @milisha98
      @milisha98 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

+Yenlung Lo If you read the pilots report, you'll find that media claims that the F-16 and F-35 were even in a dog-fight (let alone the F-16 winning) simply isn't true. Meanwhile, the F-35 provided its own anti-air in Green Flag, and as part of the Marine IOC, 4 F-35B's took out 9 enemy fighters (thought to be Marine F/A-18's) unscathed.

Just one question? How come Italy, which is buying 90 F35s, gets a full on assembly plant with parts shipped in from all over the world and the UK, which is buying 138 at least, invested £2.3 Billion and makes some 25% of all F35s wasn't given that opportunity? So much for being a 'Tier One Partner' with the Yanks then ...

    • @kushdaddy144

Not sure I follow. My point is that as a Tier One Partner surely we should be getting priority? The final specification isn't the issue. We make the rear fuselage, tail fins and tailplanes, wing tips and a whole bunch of other stuff for EVERY F35 built. So why give Italy a Final Assembly line? they are buying fewer aircraft and never paid any development money ...

Sorry my friend the Italians have a Final Assembly Line T Cameri where they are building both Italian and Dutch customer aircraft. Apparently Japan will also produce its own aircraft under licence.
The Italians have also won the major maintenance and upgrade contracts for all European F35s.
Which again begs my question why is all this work not being given to the only 'Tier One' partner who invested all the big bucks up front years ago....

Thats right my friend. The whole rear end is basically British: Fuselage, vertical and horizontal tailpanes, folding wing tips for the F-35C. The vertical tailplanes were actually designed and tested at BAE Systems here in the UK and they have a complete airframe under stress testing. We provide most of the avionics and warfare structure software, ejector seats and much of the fuel systems. The LiftSystem for the STOVL 'B' is Rolls Royce and we put up some £2.3 Billion in development money up front. It was a British RAF pilot that flew the first X-35 STOVL test in 2001. Seems a very long time ago.
500 UK companies are involved in the programme, building 25pc of each F35 produced. BAE claims it will support 25,000 British jobs over the next 25 years.I have no idea of values but as we supply every F35 maybe get paid what we pay for our 138 fighters!

This plane gets constantly ripped by idiots who read military journalists who are also idiots who are trying to break controversial story to get their own names out there.
The facts are that the airframe is capable of great maneuverability. It is inherently unstable. Once the software for the flight envelope is finished this plane will be many times better in a dogfight than any fighter except the F-22.
The avionics will be unsurpassed for battlefield situational awareness. The pilot will eventually be able to control drones from the cockpit.
Admittedly there have been delays and mistakes made. It will get fixed and when it does, this will be the most capable fighter jet to ever fly.

+Packo_ Hubu stealth is used only in first couple days its the f-35s un-stealthy configuration that makes this plane grow fangs 23,000lb precision payload with air to air weapons internally, external fuel tanks combined with its massive internal fuel tank super cruising at 1000 mph not using after burners therefor using least amount of fuel carrying the most. Imagine when the all clear is given after first wave and 30 fully loaded f-35(bombers) take off cruising 1000 mph with more fuel than most fighters and 600,000lbs of precision weaponry(sucks to be anywhere near target) even if 15 get shot down you still got 300,000 lbs of precision weapons falling on your head.

So much for the claims the F-35 can't dogfight. A Norwegian pilot's perspective. theaviationist.com/2016/03/01/heres-what-ive-learned-so-far-dogfighting-in-the-f-35-a-jsf-pilot-first-hand-account/

      Fun fact.
Western pilots often dismissed the advantage of the cobra manouver of russian jets. As high angle of attacks always mean you lose a lot of energy
Now the norwegian pilots is saying the F35 is good because it can do pretty half decent high angle of attack manouvers(not even close to what SU 30's and SU 35's have been showing off)

You have no way of knowing that, even if the T-50 would exist into service. Which it doesn't. There's only a couple of prototypes yet. Now go be drunk for the rest of the day, like 70% of your fellow nationals.
