    Great video ❤️ just had a question. My setup is a z6 with an ftz adapter. Will it be able to hold a large lens like a 27-70 f2.8? Will it handle the load while using the vortex mode?

    Wow that's an comprehensive video. Unfortunately I didn't check much on weebill s before buying it. Have an D4 and an D810 beside some D90. Tried with caution to set up the weebill s with the D810... unfortunately it will just work with light lenses (I had on a Tamron SP 15-30... which is way too heavy). I think I will go for some mirrorless Camera as I really don't want to overwhelm the weebill. Btw it works amazing with a GoPro 10. Thanks for the heads ups. Next time I'm investing in a gimbal, I'll make sure to read all the specs.

      Most welcome! most new model action cams are very stabilised these days, so you may not even need a gimbal if you are happy to invest in one of these?

    Thanks so much this is so helpful. I have a D750 and wanted to balance it on a Weebill S. I was only going to use my lightweight 35mm D lens (do pre focus) it looks like I will be able.
    The reason Im looking at the Weebill S is because of the removable batteries.
    Ive been contemplating buying a Z camera but thought why do that if I can balance my existing equipment

      @@keliusher-holmes2165 I didn't go for it in the end - Ive done a number of hydrid shoots where gimbals were at the shoots and watched how much they were used. Most gave up using them and went handheld like me.
      Gimbals are great but I kind of readoned that I can mostly get round using them. I use my Google pixel 6 for any gimbal like stuff - so far Ive got away with it.

    As Craig was pointing out the best match with weebil S is the D850 ( if using Nikon). You can literally connect the camera through usb c cables to the gimbal allowing you to use more functions, especially focus. That said I have a D810 a D4 and a couple of D90s. Well the gimbal is good, not great, but still plenty of functions and well built. Still with a d810 it becomes difficult to handle without an additional grip. I read a comment of a photography/videography fellow owning a D4 and a d810 plus a Tamron SP 15-30. Well I own the same lens too. First it's impossible to use them with this gimbal as they're heavy and not small at all. I tried my sigma 50/1.4. Still the Weebil S was designed to accommodate smaller and less heavy mirrorless cameras. I barely fit the d810. If you are by any mistake resetting the gimbal the camera will get hit hard. I personally sold my weebil s and bought a bigger gimbal which allows a lot of setup space and suit me very well, being extremely easy and comfortable to handle.

    Good video Craig. Did you keep the focus locked (AF Off) or did you keep changing it using the focus ring? If you kept the focus locked, where did you focus? - infinity or somewhere in between?

    • @ThePhantomPhotographer
      @ThePhantomPhotographer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ravin, definitely AF off on the nikon D810. They video autofocus hunts way to much! If I am vlogging I will focus on a point the same distance as the camera will be to my face then lock off. If it is just general filming then closer to infinity. Hope this helps!

    • @ravinchandra
      @ravinchandra 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePhantomPhotographer Thank you, it definitely helps. I have a Nikon D7200 and I can very much relate to the focus hunting. But with the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens, hunting was considerably less, but the focusing sound was prevalent though. Thanks again :)

    Just a little update re controlling the camera (D810) for time lapse: just use the USB-Micro to USB-C Micro adapter cable that comes with the Weebill S package and you will be able to widely control the D810, i.e. 1) release the shutter, 2) control the aperture, and 3) let the Weebill release the shutter automatically while taking hundreds of pictures for your time lapse with or without automatic movement.

    i'm just a little confused with one thing. i don't have a gimbal but if i was to use the gimbal or the weebill, how can i manage the autofocus on my nikon d850? the autofocus sucks when i'm trying to do a video unless i manually use it. i saw your test shots with the weebill but it seems you don't have an issue with the autofocus. like if i want to do a portrait video, it'll constantly focus and buffer. is there a button on the gimbal or weebill to fix that or to do it manually? because my thought is one hand on the gimbal/weebill and the other hand on the lens controlling the focus. i'm not sure if i'm making any sense to you.

      Hey there Matteo. There is a motion timelapse feature on the app for the Weebill S, however there isn't compatibility with the D810 to take the pictures. I actually haven't tried if you can just set the path via the app and then just start the timelapse timing through the camera...hmm. I'll reckon I'll have a try and see if this is workable or not.

    • @ThePhantomPhotographer
      @ThePhantomPhotographer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Chandra, yes, the full time video auto focus is not good on the D810. Make sure you are not in AF-F and are in AF-S, then pick your focus point. After that, you won't get the focus hunting. The AF-F in video mode is one of the downfalls of this camera. Have a look 4.30 in on this video:

Buy the extra follow focus CMF-04 in addition with the qdslrdashboard app, connect your camera with to your smartphone with OTG and camera charging cable and ........MAGIC.... You have everything you need, aperture and speed control, external monitor, histogram, FOCUS PEAK screen, mcro focus adjustments and many many more. My heaviest setup was d750 85mm 1.4d with large square sinar filters 125mm thats about 2kg more or less, wheebill s could handle it with ease on medium motor torque. the thing you should worry about is the distribution of weight. For example d5200 with the same lens and filters cannot balance unless i add a speedlight on the top which works as a counerweight.

      Hi Felix. On the Weebill S I can balance my Z6 with an FTZ adapter and a Nikon 16-35mm lens. I do have to take the eyepiece off though to move it to undersling mode. The 16-36mm lens is about 13.5cm long. Hope this helps!!

      Hi there. Good Question. I have a battery grip but haven't tried it. I do know that once the grip is on though, there definitely wouldn't be enough clearance for underslung mode. Also the extra weight wouldn't be great for the gimbal, especially if the grip is full of batteries!

I really recommend to download the qdslrdashboard app for your smartphone (about 10Euro) which includes aperture and speed control but no iso and wifi control while filming. @@francisenaje Good question, I don't know of any gimbals that would, for the age of that camera. With this camera's limited video settings anyway, and you are OK using wider video shots when you are moving, then it may just be worth getting a decent new generation action cam with a $20 mini tripod and use that for video. The stabilisation on the newer Go Pro's and DJi action 2 or 3 are awesome, and it'll give you another shooting option as well. I use a DJI action 2, which is small light weight, has great stability, and super value for money!
