    Lisa is one the most underrated singers ever, her voice is a perfect fusion of Whitney and Mariah

      You must mean Minnie Ripperton and Whitney because Mariahs whistle register is not strong like Lisa’s or Minnie Ripperton.. Minnie was the best to ever do it!

    • @helgar791
      @helgar791 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@Jamiesearchaccount First let's understand. Lisa does not use whistle notes but rather a high head voice. Second Mariah IMO could do far more with her whistle notes than Minnie, although Minnie had a few personal tricks she could do very well. Mariah also never uses her whistle notes as much as Minnie and often, even in person, Mariah uses it as an emphasis rather than a display of "look at what I can do" or singing entire songs using it. Now that isn't a knock on Minnie who was really the first to showcase this skill, and is still the bench mark for it. But saying Lisa is a perfect combination of Whitney and Mariah seems valid.

    • @Jamiesearchaccount
      @Jamiesearchaccount 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@helgar791 no that’s incorrect! Lisa uses a mixture of super high head notes as well as whistle register notes!! If you were trained you would know this!!!! Mariah’s whistle registry is very weak!! Minnie Ripperton’s whistle registry is unmatched! The only other person close to her registry is Chante Moore! You clearly don’t know singing! Lisa way out wayyy before Mariah and you can tell that Whitney uses a lot of Lisa’s technical approaches. Mariah always sounds like she’s screaming and her control is all over the place. The others named tone is pure silk. Minnie Ripperton, Lisa Fischer and Whitney Houston are the best to EVER do it! And I’m done commenting to you, I will not continue to go back and forth with anyone who has no idea what they are talking about. So respond to someone with your misinformation.

      @Jamiesearchaccount people like you are insufferable. Lisa doesn't use the whistle register. And Mariahs whistle register Is and always had been leagues above Minnie. Yes Minnie could sustain them longer but that's it, mariahs has always been stronger, agile and more creative with them. Also mariah isn't just whistle notes, unlike Minnie mariahs a VOCALIST just like lisa is. So no she's not a fusion of Whitney and Minnie. Nostalgia has y'all making up fantasises

    She sang with Luther Vandross for 25 years until his death. He is one of the only reasons she even put out a project. She absolutely hated the spotlight and preferred to sing background…which she has done successfully with a lot of icons. She is still touring now.

      @@FCLaneyThat sounds about right UNFORTUNATELY FOR LUTHER VANDROSS. I believe he EITHER TURNED DOWN OR DELIBERATELY AVOIDED "ANY COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS" SPECIFICALLY WITH FEMALES VOCALIST. I PERSONALLY GUESS HE WANTED THE GUYS TO AT LEAST POTENTIALLY CONSIDER HAVING "EYES FOR HIM"? HE HAD THE DUET WITH GREGORY HINES. AND HE HAD HIS BACKGROUND LADIES AND THE ONE BROTHER. AND! This is from A LIFELONG LUTHER VANDROSS FAN . I PERSONALLY COULDN'T SING LIKE DAVID RUFFIN, SAM COOKE OR JACKIE WILSON BUT.....👀 LUTHER'S STYLE OF "VOCALIZATION" LOOKED ALMOST EFFORTLESS WHEN YOU WATCHED HIM DELIVER THOSE SMOOTH AND VELVETY CONCISE RUNS AND CRESCENDOS. I DIDN'T HAVE TO BE A POWERHOUSE TO VOCALLY EXPRESS MYSELF THROUGH SONG THANKS TO SAM COOKE, DAVID RUFFIN AND LUTHER VANDROSS.

      Lisa, Sade & Linda Ronstadt - females
      Luther is top for my male vocalist
      Just listened to "the Rush" yesterday!
      Maxwell is a close 2nd, and Prince for top all-around STAR!
      I have many vocalists I love, but these would satisfy me forever - if everyone else faded away
      Phyllis Hyman was incredible, however I prefer Alyson Williams.
      So many talents over the years.
      Consummate performers: Luther, Prince, Maxwell - saw all 3 of them multiple times and beyond thankful that I had those experiences.
      Chaka Khan is amazing - I saw her at the Apollo and would jump at the chance to see her again.
      Sade - saw her live TWICE - oh how I wish she would tour again!

This song alone is one of those classics that as soon as you hear it playing somewhere, you will automatically revert back to the specific time in your life when you first heard it🤷🏾‍♀️. If you watch the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, you'll understand why you've never heard of Lisa. She was a dynamic background singer. She worked with Chaka, The Rolling Stones, Luther, and Tina Turner. Many suggested she go solo. So she recorded the So Intense album. And she started a solo career. But as she talks about it in the doc, it was a lot of pressure and she didn't feel good about it. So she went back to background work on albums and tours.
    I think she would have continued to grow as a solo artist. But you have to do what feels authentic to you and your spirit. She's now starting to do solo dates again because of the documentary.
    Her talent is truly unmatched in the background biz.

    Lisa was a background singer for the Rolling Stones, but they toured sporadically. Lisa spent most of her career singing back up for Luther Vandross on his numerous tour dates. Lisa was the focus of the movie "20 Feet From Stardom". IMO she is the most underrated singer of her era with a voice comparable to Whitney or Mariah. Lisa is still kicking at the ripe young age of 65, she is still as beautiful as ever, can still hit that F5, performs nationwide, and occasionally in and around her native Brooklyn where both she and I live.

    You asked why you haven't heard more of her. It is because she decided (after going solo) that a high profile career as a "star" was not the kind of life she wanted. So she opted out, and decided instead to work in support of others as backup, and to collaborate as a featured singer. Other commenters have already shared her decades-long association with The Rolling Stones and Luther Vandross, and many others. She now tours as a headliner, but in smaller venues.

    That was great! It brought back the era for sure, so this is a song that I think you will enjoy the groove. Its the Jones Girls track called Nights over Egypt.

    Lisa won a grammy for that performance, but decided she preferred the collaboration that comes with singing background vocals. From 1989 until 2015, Rolling Stones’ tours were her gig. During that same period she also was part of Luther Vandross’ touring and recording backup trio.

    This is my first time to your channel, but Lisa is a powerhouse in vocals and I wish that she’d gotten more exposure for it! Thanks for reacting to her, I’d never heard the live version and she sounds even more amazing!

    she is so underrated, though one of the best singers ever, I dare to put her in the same league as Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Patti Labelle, Stephanie Mills, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, just to name a few
    I love her voice ❤

    Lisa has a talent she can roll with ANY genre. She sang back up for many great like Luther Vandross, goes toe to toe with Steve Tyler of The Rolling Stones as well as can lay it down in jazz as well as musicals/showtunes. She is comfortable singing with a band as well as a major orchestra. She is still doing it now, in her 60s and there are many clips of her on here changing it up to match her mood. She shared a Grammy for this song, timing with Patti LaBelle that year.
    You should check out her and the Stones doing "Gimme Shelter". She brings it to life almost as close to the original singer, Merry Clayton, a great in her own right (Singing this song in while in lat stages of pregnancy in the middle of the night) You can also hear Merry singing background on "Sweet Home Alabama". Anyway for either of them to bring a masterful sound to a song about rape and murder, where most people don't even pay it any attention, you've got to be good...

If you have time watch her singing back ground for Luther Vandross on the song Superstar in the Live from Wemberly concert. Mastepiece. Have you heard any of Rachelle Ferrell or Layla Hathaway music. Another treat

    She was Luther's background singer or years and she came out around the same time as Mariah, she was huge in the rnb market off that 1 album but she never came back, I guess she knew the business was not for her as a recoding artist. When she did that whistle Mariah was the only other singer doing that so that was what made her real famous!
