@@BrianVelez lithuanians were always like this. If you look back into the history, we were always like one in the important situations. I don't know if you know this, but this wasn't the only protest to fight the Soviet Union. There was also one which I personally like the most, it happened in 1991 in January, it was a couple of hard days protecting the most important places in Vilnius, but the hardest one was on 13th during the night. People were protecting TV tower from soviet army. There were a lot of deaths, but people still stood side by side not letting tanks get near the tower. It's really important for us, we still remember all the heroes from the fights with soviets each year. You can search for more information if you want. You'll see the unity and love for their country ❤🇱🇹

I am coming to the realization of just how great the Baltic Way event was, not really paying attention to it in 1989. My father was Lithuanian but left home in 1942 and ultimately ended up in Canada. Seeing the resolve of the people from all 3 of the Baltic countries is inspiring. We visited Lithuania last year (my wife and our daughters) calling it our Lithuanian Roots Tour and it is an amazing country with a great history. The former Genocide Museum, now known as The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights, was an overpowering experience giving a glimpse into what life was like under German and Soviet occupation.
Vilnius is a beautiful city, steeped in history, with amazing and resilient people and well worth the visit.

But I remember quite clearly, when it was a decade later when people decided to try to just go out in the streets here Lithuania, and just celebrate the tenth anniversary of Baltic way. Whats even crazier- the whole event was organised barely in month and a week. I mean whole idea was proposed on july 15th same year and officially signed agreement as late as 12th august (although preparations were already underway)!
Let that sink in. 1989, before internet or (at least in this region) mobile phones. In situation, where even in spirit of Gorbachevs glasnost and other reforms, you had to watch your step. Organising a protest spanning 3 nations, gathering aproximately 1/3rd of their population, assigning them so, that there would be no caps, done in so little time.
