As a Latvian American. Sadly I couldn't be there. Yet a small group of us at University here in Indiana held a public commons area demostration in support and to draw attention to the plight of the Baltic States. We had a group of 100 Americans join us and we had a mini chain. LONG LIVE LATVIJA! Long Live the Baltic Way.
I just got back from visiting Riga and learned a bit about the Baltic Way while I was there. I wanted to know more and found your documentary. Really informative and extremely well done!
I am Lithuanian myself and every year on this day I love hearing the hymn for the Baltic Way. My family was there but I wish I was there because I wasn't born yet and this day will all be in every Baltic's hearts
This is a very well-done documentary produced by someone so young! I hope wherever you are in life now, you are still creating documentaries like this. Very informative and fascinating!
Its amazing how much power off will and burning hearts in peoples can do. Tears in my eyes, and no shame. Proud to be Lithuanian, and always gonna remember Latvia And Estonia as brothers and sisters. Thank you.
I was 7 years old at the time, and my mother and I participated in the Baltic way. With the war in Ukraine, watching this makes me cry... praying for a speedy victory for Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine in these though days, weeks, months and now years. We haven't forgotten our past, and we do not wish it upon anybody.
Baltic Brotherhood, we are different, but when danger looms we shall always stand as one! Thank you so very much for this presentation! As one of the participants to all those events leading to regaining our independence I throughly enjoyed it.
I knew of the 'Singing Revolution', but only recently learned the context and impact of the Baltic Way and the role it played in the independence of the Baltic states. I found this very informative and hope you received a good grade for this project!
*Fantastic* video, Kristine!! Honestly, one of the best I've seen about the Baltic Way. It is being shared here in the U.S. and in Latvia by those of us who know and conduct the choral music from the Baltic countries. May you continue to carry forward your family's tradition and 'roots' in powerful and beautiful ways!
Very good job, Kristine! This video is not to be viewed just as a school project! Thank you for your well done work! Indeed, the world needs more people like you! PALDIES!
I want all the Baltic countries to know that you are highly respected and regarded by the US and its people and we will always stand behind you and help you stay independent. Our leaders have pledged this and we also are willing to fight as well to help you.
+metsdudenj what is the price for your help? we all know that everything is made for a price! stop pretending that you are helping everyone only for sympathy.
Sityg He is an idiot, they robbed the Baltic countries blind and tried to suppress their language and culture. And they stole everything when they left.
wow great work Kristine! I think you could use this as a project for film school, the fact that this was done for 6th grade school project blows my mind. Keep up the good work and best wishes from Lithuania! :)
Thank you for your work on the documentary! It's a good and concise reminder of the events that happened at that time. Paldies par ieguldīto darbu! Ļoti labs un īss atgādinājums par tā laika notikumiem.
This is the best example of Peaceful Protest in the last 35 years. It could not be assailed or defamed for being violent or anything else. It had to be openly accepted as a basic Human Right.
It makes you cry how they all came together and the soldairity. And the world has massive people cant put everyone in jail .united the world stand and divided they fall. The whole world needs to take inspiration and do this Excaltly the same way the Baltics did it . Peaceful no weapons arm in arm .And proud of the Baltic way is a life changing way to protest that is history breaking and memorable.🙏💯❤️🦁🙏☮️
Paldies, kā tik daudz radīja Latviju šājā. Visu, ko es redzu par Baltijas Cēļu, runa visvairāk par Igauniju, un manu miļo Latviju tikai pimin blākam. Thank you for showing so much of Latvia in this. Everything that I see about the Baltic Way focused more on Estonia, and only mentions my beloved Latvia as a participant.
I'd like to add that the Baltic people were able to achieve the "impossible" - joining hands across a very large span of land. The USA attempted "Hands Across America" a couple of years before the Baltic nations did. While the US was, in some areas, successful, it certainly wasn't as successful as it was supposed to be. The "Hands Across America" campaign was supposed to unite Americans from coast to coast. I hadn't heard that other countries did this as well. I'm glad the Baltic nations were successful in such a feat and that they were able to take a stand and make a statement peacefully! Other nations should remember this event and follow suit - just like other nations did in 1989. We need more peaceful protests, such as this, nowadays. I believe peace achieves greater results than violence!
Hi! I was a part of Baltic Way as a kid. I am from Latvija. All about Baltic Way in your story is correct. But there is something important missing between Baltic Way and Independence of Baltic states. There were protests against soviet dictatorship in Baltic states. Common people were builndig baricades around strategic objects (like radio and television) to protect them from soviet troops. Respectively it resulted in many deaths of Baltic people. During protests many Baltic people were shot to death (including journalists) by russian (soviet) troops and some were run over alive by soviet tanks. However in the end of this blood bath 3 Baltic states (Latvia (LV), Lithuania (LT) and Estonia (EE)) broke out to independence and now are NATO alliance countries. :)
Yes. That was a traumatic day. I remember the violent night at the barricades very well. I was at my grandmas work place and she worked late that day. We had to walk through the adjacent park to get home, not far from the bullet sounds. We could hear them clearly, but didn't dare to look back where the sound was coming from, just walked as fast as we could. When we reached home, we were glued to the TV for the rest of the night and watched as the body count was rising. I was 9 years old at the time.
Watching from Miami 🏝 proud of my people then, proud of my people now! Check out kaiaenterprise.com let’s form another Baltic Way, this time across the continents! #LAVAU 🖖🥰🅿️
I remember that, reminds me of Gandhi's strategy of civil disobedience and also emphasis of compassion for the "enemy". David vs Goliath? more truth vs might.
I was there as a 1 year old, and I have pictures with me and my dad demolishing monument of Lenin! (he worked for the Latvian government and I was like 2 - so it wasn't a bad ass thing - it was a & @#k you we are free thing!)
I stood in this chain together with my 7 y.o. son. Thank you Kristine for this beautiful presentation.

This really is the best ever school project. I see a career in Journalism. As for the content, in these current times this is so poignant.
