Personal opinion that you can disagree with: this is how they should’ve done a dragonball live action.

the cloud demon became the cloud that Wukong usually rides. didn't see that coming, but its really cool they made the backstory of the cloud.

This is one of the most fascinating adaptations of Wukong's story. Really a unique take, and I never even would've found out about the movie if it weren't for this clutch channel.

the monkey king is not a demon, he's considered one of the immortals who hold a reverence place in Chinese culture like gods. the tale is a battle between monkey king, and the god of war (usually but not always depicted as a jade dragon) Monkey is indeed the champion of the mortals, kind of like Hercules or Apollo are in their tales. (as two of many such examples)

Ive always loved the Mokey king stories. This explains why he has a cloud to travel on, as well as how his staff has changed over the course of this movie. Ive always heard him fighting "destiny" as a rebelious kind of thing, instead of a hopeful kind of thing like in this movie. He is gathering all those that dont agree that life is already predestined, and that is really cool of a thought.

I’ve always liked the stories of Sun Wuckong. I don’t know the full story but heard different versions of it. From what I summarised, he came upon a certain power which turned his fate upside down, was a mischievous troublemaker who caused issues to everyone but after hardships became more mature, got stronger and became the hero of humanity. Like I said, I don’t know the whole story but he’s definitely my favourite mythological hero.

This reminds me of the fact that Sun Wukong is theoretically stronger than every being in the universe other than Buddha himself

missed a great part, where the Juiian wrapped his invention of body amour around the young girl sacrificing himself to save her. when the group arrived they find her body in the next room cause the body amour didnt work. they lied to him saying she is alive and he is a hero in his last moment.

Wukong was so Badass in mythology that Erlang Shen the only guy who is close to Wukong in terms of power needed an entire army of Gods to help along with a couple of divine treasures to suppress Wukong they couldn't even kill him at that point too

This is easily my favorite live action adapted Wukong. Had a good balance of seriousness and humor. Great visual art direction and designs. Casting was spot on. Well paced stand alone story for cinema.

So many different versions of Wukong. I passed on this one for a while then watched it on Chinese tv. Really enjoyed it, although it really could have been another character. Sun Wukong was just used for recognition factor.

The turning point of Tian is when he found the mortal reincarnation of the goddess he loved in the ruins of flower mountain, only to see her killed by the celestial assassins at the order of the General. As he died fighting the General, the stone he was holding on to is the farewell gift given to him by the goddess before she was cast out of heaven to become a mortal.

Always amazes me that over seas they can make these wonderful adaptations, but any time NA tries to adapt something they literally strip away the lore to make it more believable, more relatable, and in doing so absolutely ruins it.

the first time I saw Wukong was from an old Chinese TV series called The Journey to the West adapt from a Novel with the same name, Despite the bad CG effect, the series still good and did an amazing job describing Wukong's Journey with his Master and his comrades along with his truly Amazing powers

The movie deviates wildly from the original "Journey to the West" book, but this is definitely the most badass film adaption.

What’s with Wukong being overpowered? In the myths he took on the entire heavenly army without breaking a sweat!
