In all honesty, even though this video is a bit old (4 years at the time of this comment.) A few tips when doing the connection points. Don't use those orange tips to secure the connection, they're more inclined for house connections than vehicle connections. Instead use heat wraps, and even before using the heat wrap, I'd recommend using soldering to make sure the connection never gets loose in the future. This ensure a strong connection, and with the heat wrap, to make sure it does not touch any other connections in the future. Overall, a very straightforward video installation process.
If your rear camera shows up on the rear view mirror then yes, you do not lose that feature. There is a way to integrate that signal to show up on an aftermarket radio but its very difficult. Stock USB will not work UNLESS Metra has an adapter that let's you keep your OEM port.
nice... wish had that on my frs but now i have 2020 brz ts and 2020 sti so it comes factory now with it.. this units now are getting cheap and get lots of features.
Anthony Wang i currently don’t have a backup camera but nothing affected how the headunit should work, i am looking into getting a rear view cam and i’ll do an upload for that
ConnorxDavid nah, when i bought the car from the previous owner he somehow broke the USB inputs there so i used the USB extension that came with the headunit
Thank you! It should be exactly the same since they all use the same wiring harness by toyota. Just make sure you buy the wiring harness and dash kit in the description!!
I havent installed a backup camera yet, but im going to get to it. But it should work as long as you connect the long green wire to the reverse sensor wire. Once I get a backup cam ill post a video up!
yours is a brz limited right?, im looking for a frs/brz but i want the dual climate and push start. So far I've only seen brz limited with that interior.
Great vid- will the car microphone still work for hands-free calls? Also- I already have an after-market dash mounted backup camera screen.. Wondering if I could unplug that, and run the backup cam to this unit, or would take some splicing and stuff..
Micah Williams sadly no, it needs the usb to be able to read the car play functions off your phone, basically apple car play is powered off your phone, the headunit is just displaying it to you through it
Dude really used wire caps to make a connection 😂. Those are used for home or industrial use. The least you can do is use crimp connectors. There is a reason why they get loose, even worse that you have a moving vehicle.

2 questions. 1- does your backup camera still work through the rear view mirror? 2. Does the stock usb port work

Does the back up camera still work ?
That's what I was going to ask. I'm guessing not
nice... wish had that on my frs but now i have 2020 brz ts and 2020 sti so it comes factory now with it.. this units now are getting cheap and get lots of features.
For the carplay usb, did you have to purchase that separately/ or is that an adapter or just plug and play old one?
thank you, very informative video!
amazon says that this dash kit won’t work for 2017 86, which one do I get them?
Will it remove the backup camera?
i noticed you didn't use your 28 pin connector. is any feature missing, like backup camera, reverse light, etc?
Anthony Wang i currently don’t have a backup camera but nothing affected how the headunit should work, i am looking into getting a rear view cam and i’ll do an upload for that

Where did you plug the other end of the usb into? Was it the usb plus next to the climate controls?
ConnorxDavid nah, when i bought the car from the previous owner he somehow broke the USB inputs there so i used the USB extension that came with the headunit
Great video explanation, Do you know if this is the same for a 2013 Scion Frs with the block radio?
Thank you! It should be exactly the same since they all use the same wiring harness by toyota. Just make sure you buy the wiring harness and dash kit in the description!!
Did anything happen with your subwoofers on the side doors? Did they still work
Matteo Usma nope, if anything the new headunit should send more power to the subwoofers and they should sound better
did you ever try with the block head unit?
hi, we have a 9inch car radio for this car. would you update to 9inch? we could send sample to you to review it.
If you guys send me one I can do a review on Instagram
About the USB cable you can through the inside of the cabin; what about the built-in USB’s? Aren’t they connected to the head unit?
not sure why but when i bought my car the built in usb wasn’t working, not sure what the previous owner did so i just used the cable to be safe
Do they have one with a knob
Does it come with the wiring for the reverse camera
yes and no, it comes with some of the parts you need to get it working, the rest comes with the backup camera itself
Does the backup cam still work fine?
I havent installed a backup camera yet, but im going to get to it. But it should work as long as you connect the long green wire to the reverse sensor wire. Once I get a backup cam ill post a video up!
Nate Reyes thanks man I’ll definitely watch
Those it connects to backup camera
Hey man know this an old video but thanks for the info. Question. Where’d you get the red AC knobs? Those are clean. Wanna get rid of my silver ones
Will the harness work with 2020 Toyota 86?
Also did the system come with that aux looking cord?
Awesome vid bro, what did you do with the 28 pin? I'm installing mine tmrw
Does the backup camera work with it?
Really Informative! Thanks for the cool vid
Josh Fabella No problem! You’re welcome for the help

Does it work for a Scion tC 2015?
yours is a brz limited right?, im looking for a frs/brz but i want the dual climate and push start. So far I've only seen brz limited with that interior.
I wanna say he has a scion frs from 2013-2016 and thats just from looking at the interior pieces he has
But yes limited brz and series frs have the dual climate
i have the 10 series frs which is a special edition, only special edition frs have the dual climate
Does it work for a backup camera too?
Ulmt GrindZ yee it should if u install it correctly
I have a 2015 frs you think the harness would be the same?
arnoldo pleites yes, it should be!
what size did you get for the screen?
Great vid- will the car microphone still work for hands-free calls? Also- I already have an after-market dash mounted backup camera screen.. Wondering if I could unplug that, and run the backup cam to this unit, or would take some splicing and stuff..
did you ever try it out?
What did you do with the green parking brake wire?
i left it alone until the day i decide to buy a backup camera
@@n8six ok. It didn’t limit your ability to use any of the features besides the camera?
“one day. i might have it one day”
Does it bring a camera
What size is that radio
I Love the vid
How well does this work with maps? I was wanting to get this rather than spend the 500+ for the frs nav upgrade
Daniel Garcia works amazing! just make sure you have the phone plugged in directly to the usb extender
@@n8six quick question I'm doing this tomorrow! Any idea on how to retain the stock USB?
Does it connect with a back up camera?
Damian Perez yes, it should
hello does it fit 2013 Scion FR-S?
yes my car is a 2013 frs
@@n8six thank you...

Micah Williams sadly no, it needs the usb to be able to read the car play functions off your phone, basically apple car play is powered off your phone, the headunit is just displaying it to you through it
How much?
Tristan N about $300
can you do a video on how to turbo the brakes?
Dude really used wire caps to make a connection 😂. Those are used for home or industrial use. The least you can do is use crimp connectors. There is a reason why they get loose, even worse that you have a moving vehicle.
Those are not the correct wire connectors to use.
