Could you to a video on maximizing mid-wide canti power? How big of a factor are pads on them compared to other rim systems? Having mid wide cantis on my commuter is a statement in this age, I know there are more reliable rim brakes but something feels kind of wrong on replacing them with vi brakes.

I’ve tried to do a video on canti set up before, but I never published it. There are videos on TH-cam that capture the basic principles for most types, but there are so many factors at play. The most overlooked aspect is lever pull. Not all short pull levers have the same pull distance. This has a huge effect on canti performance, apart from straddle set up and pad positioning. It’s kind of a daunting subject. Nearly all different brands and models of canti rocker arms have slight differences in geometry. This has a massive effect on performance too. Some rocker/lever combinations work awesome, and some are just terrible, and can never be set up very well. It’s a really difficult subject to broach in detail. Maybe I will try again one day.
My general recommendations are to: Use the best cable and housing you can get. Use the best pads you can find and set them up as perfectly as possible. From there, you can adjust straddle position and straddle cable to get the best feel possible.

@@ReferenceBicycle thanks for your input, mid wide cantis are iconic brakes and very good looking, it's a shame that their setup is still a mystery, I've watched most of the videos on their setup and I set the straddle as low as possible and pads as wide as possible. Hoping to see your video on cantis.

    Thanks for sharing!
I'm trying to find technical info on the Mesa Runner, any idea what:
    - BB Type/Specs?
    - Stock wheel freehub or freewheel?
    - Wheel axel standard, are they 9x135 R, 9x100 F?
    Cheers

      Thanks for watching!
Originally, this would’ve had a cup and cone BB. The shell was BSA threaded. Probably 68mm width, but I can’t remember for certain.
The original wheel would’ve had a 5-speed Shimano freewheel threaded on.

I’m certain it was 100/130mm spacing on this bike. Both wheels were probably bolted on, IIRC. I converted to a 9mm q/r set.
