Certainly proves that those super agressive treads must suck heaps of power/fuel when you're driving the 'black top", and isn't that where most of our 4x4's spend 90+% of their running time.

I bought a used v6 2010 hilux sr5 5speed auto stock standard, since I've owned it I've put approx 200kg in accessories on it with all terrains tyres 265 65 17. Ive gone from 8.4 which works out to be 11.6 litres to 7.9 12.1 litres to the 100. Really not to bad for petrol i reckon, though this is not living in the big city either, I'd suspect figures would be worse in that case. Enjoyed the vid Anthony great work.

Appreciate you taking the effort in making this video! There needs to be more videos like this with raw data... not just "9/10 on treadlife".

With the way fuel is going it's worth having two different sets of tyres one for road and one for bush. I have the 4L Prado and people were taking pictures of the pump after I filled up the 180L tank. They couldn't believe how much it cost. 🤣

      Not wrong!
      I'm glad I got rid of my 3.4L Prado before fuel sky-rocketed. 17L/100 ain't terrific 😅

I have a 2022 Prado with the stock tyres. I have bought another set with BFG KO2’s for off-road, takes me about 15 minutes and a good sweat to swap them out when I need to

Yokohama GO 15 LT ( brilliant tyres , heaps better than the Mickey Thompson Deegan 38 which were my last tyres) on my 2013 Sr5 tub 4x4 ute, 4 Speed auto.
11.2 litres per hundred unladen & I don't drive it economically!
Yokohama buy 3 get the 4th tyre for free and the Yokohama tyre warranty makes it difficult to consider other brands. Brilliant on the beach.

Savings of about $10-$12 a tank considering the price of fuel nowadays?
Most people probably use a tank a week so$500-$600 a year savings but you have to buy a second set of wheels and tyres and go through the effort of changing them over every time you're going away on a trip.
Main advantage would be saving the wear on the all terrains because they aren't cheap! and the road tyres are easier on the car.

Maybe when you had higher fuel consumption a good part of your drive was into a strong headwind, also road surface can effect the rolling resistance of a tyre.

I am doing cross country with 7000 kms in 3 weeks so far. Showing 13l/100kms long term average. Sitting on 100 kph most times. Wrangler Duratrac tyres, 1500 kg pop top. Worst was 15.5l/ 100kms with strong headwind. Best 12 litres. MY19 auto Hilux. Locked in 5th overdrive.

The Grand treks are a great tyre. Great on the beach and highway. And cheap to replace. My Prado can get down to 8.9 Lt/100km on a long trip.

Thanks for the info! How would those Grandtreks go off-road do you think? Also, given current prices, would it be worth filling both tanks these days when prices are low and carrying the extra weight around?

I’ve noticed fuel economy difference between running the Maxxis bravo 980 ATs vs Maxxis bravo HT770 . The ATs chewing thru the diesel at over $2 per litre

Are you kidding me! 1.67.9 for diesel? We're paying over 2.30 up here in Lismore...flamin heck that makes me mad...

"same size" tyres actually vary between brands and tread type as another thing to consider.
my 4spd auto stock sr5 Hilux with a tub and hard canopy and std height Bridgestone at has averaged 9.3 for a long time and just gone up to 9.9. where as a couple of mates with flat trays and canvas canopies or ally ones seen to sit around the 11 L100km. Seems unlikely but maybe wind drag on a wider tray could also add to less mileage.

Hi everyone,on hilux 2005 the 15" are standard if I go to 16" will be big change driving it and in consumption just want to be the same size what's on my 11 foot caravan or I should just add more leaf springs or give it a lift.Thanks.

    Great info as always.
I have the fuel gauge issue in my Hilux. I have a new sender unit for the tank which I have not fitted yet although I have also heard it could be the resistors in the cluster. Has anyone fixed the issue using either method? Or maybe failed at one and fixed with the other? Still carrying 5 litres in a jerry just in case I get caught out again... in a main arterial tunnel of course, where else.

      @KrayzieRyan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeah I have had the issue when it was 1/4 tank it was actually empty. Resoldered them and it goes below 1/4 tank. 2013 sr5

The cluster needs to be resoldered

I did the re-solder on the cluster on mine a few weeks ago and it fixed the issue. 2014 SR5 120k kms.

If you're not driving the same route with the same load in similar atmospherics, your fuel testing is not accurate.

      New Zealand at $3/litre.
Crazy Ardern closed Marsden Point refinery and out off spite filling the pipes with concrete, which is not required, but she is deliberately running NZ into the ground.
