Nope... slip sooo fast in mud, wear poorly, balance poorly, hydroplane easily... very not worth the money unless you live in the southwest and are willing to rotate them every 3k miles, or deal with bad ride and noise after the first 5 or 6k miles.
Evolution Glitch I rotate every 10 thousand kilometres, wore evenly and worked very well. Last set I replaced had almost 110 K on them. One of the best all terrain I have found. Ran them on an 08 Tundra. Thought I would try the Cooper AT3 XLT’s this time. Wish I hadn’t changed already. No where even close to the BFG in anything really
I've been running KO2s on my two 4-Runners in WA, CO, UT, NV and CA back country, since they replaced the KOs, and can confidently say your review is spot on. They hit the sweet spot of being really good at everything except gooey clay mud. I am getting over 40k miles before thinking of replacing them, and have never had a flat. I'd add one thought - they also stay in balance remarkably well. I run 275s. Great review.
Love the KO2’s. Just did 7,102 miles from Illinois. Went through Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon, Washington, and back home. Took highway 1 from San Fran north. Lots of curves! They handled everything I needed them to. Great review!
Good luck with them on my Tundra also. All around really good tire on and off road. Tow a 7000 lb travel trailer about half the time. Just installed another new set. Got 50,000 miles out of them. Happy!
Love ko2’s. They have done very well for me on the rocks and sand in Utah. Having a heavy 10ply tire is good insurance when I go into far remote places. Gives me peace of mind that I won’t get a flat.
Living in British Columbia, Canada we get 4 seasons plus we are Coastal so lots of rain/snow to quickly change the dry road you just rode in on. The M+S or Snowflake symbol is enforced regulation over our high mountain passes during winter. Travel corridors such as our #5 Coquihalla Hwy can suddenly offer snow over the summit in May/June when everything else is clear and dry. My work has me driving 3-4 hrs out on a weekly basis so there is always a handful of changing road & weather conditions I face on a regular basis not to mention our own recreational activities. My wife & I run KO2 A/T's on our Jeeps (daily drivers) and on our little Tracker (our street legal side by side). Been using KO2's since they came out in 2015. Not afraid to wheel hard with them. Yes, the M/T's are better for the dedicated off-road & mud however I'm specifically talking A/T's here as we are running a heavy sum of highway kilometers/miles. Summary: Even at less than 75% tread here's my feedback: For light-mid duty vehicles I'm set on the KO2's. For heavy duty, I see them being used however I personally would do more comparing with other brands/types if I ran a heavier duty rig (just my honest opinion) in more demanding conditions. Talk to the logging, mining & oil field operational folks for better feedback. That said ... KO2 A/T's Heavy rain/pooling on hwy - no major hydroplaning issues. Keeping in mind I'll run a set for 3 years, all year, without swapping. Snow - very good traction. Deeper snow, well that depends on your clearance. My Jeep has 4.5" lift on 33's x 12.5 with locker. I'm happy! Carry chains? Our other Jeep (stock) has 31's × 10.5 & 235's on the 'Zuke' ... all are happy all year round. Ice - In the past I ran studded Blizzak tires and yes they were awesome however I'd get pulled over for running studs in the city after driving back down from the high mountain pass. With or w/o studs they tended to hydroplane in the lower valley wet/melt conditions. Running the KO2 A/T's during icey conditions with a bit of weight I'm staying on the road still, starting/stopping with minimal slip. Basically not driving like a moron is the key. No such thing as 4 wheel stop on ice so 'Slow the hell Down!' Mud - KO2 A/T's slip a bit more however it hasn't left me at all devastated. Whereas my buddy with the M/T's (same general tread wear) will keep fairly straight I might fish tail a tad. We're talking +5% differance but not enough for my tears 😭 to start flowing. Again, what's your weight, clearance, capability & experience? And, ...don't bite into more than you can 'chew'! Sandy beaches etc. Not bad! I have a bit more 'float' on the 12.5's especially when aired down however our other Jeep on its skinnier 10.5" wide KO2's does practically as good. Hey, ... pick an intelligent line and don't dig down! Rocks & Rocky Terrain - I have enjoyed the performance of the KO2 A/T's on rock +80%. Have not slit my sidewalls...🤔 yet. Conclusion: Great tires if you do a lot of highway but like to go run off and explore overland at a moments notice. Fairly popular & easy to find them in any town that sells tires if you do happen to destroy one. Reasonable price point. There are better tires for dedicated mudding, rock crawling, stump-jumping, or crushing cars like Bigfoot. For your daily driver the KO2 A/T's are very much worth one's time and money to discover.
I love these tires, we use them on the farm. Pulling wagons out of muddy fields and snow we cut through deep drifts. Wear factor is excellent and road noise is quiet.
I have had my set of K02s on my Range Rover Classic for 3 years now and just love them. I rotate all 5 around for better wear and longevity. The thing is super solid in the snow with the AWD and they've been great wheeling the mountains here in Colorado.
@@JeepTeriyaki True - wheeling in the rainy season is messy up North, but that's the perfect time to head south to wheel in the cool mostly dry desert.
@@tacocruiser4238 Yes - we've spun in the mud in So Cal too - but it does rain a lot more in the northern part of the state earlier (November through March) and that's when we tend to wheel in the south
Up here in Calgary, Canada we have such differing weather patterns that I wanted a year round, winter rated tire for my 17 Tacoma daily driver. I've had KO2's for about 110,000 km on and I do nothing but rotations with oil changes. I love these tires for road use and still might get another 30000! Definitely recommend!
I love the KO2s I put on my FJ Cruiser! They have been amazing in snow, both on highway and off road. They absolutely crush it in the rocks, and do surprisingly well in the peanut butter mud we tend to get here in Colorado. I've had them for 2.5 years, and was very happy BFG made the LT285/70/17 in a C Load Rating after I asked them to for several months. This allowed me to keep most of the acceleration and braking performance, while having a much tougher tire for the off roading I do.
@@xxnatas69xx doesn't really matter what you have, if you have shitty tires you'll barely get by or won't make it up the hill. C coming from someone who has a "18 gladiator willy's with "Kanati Trail Hog" all terrain tires. There not that exactly well known, but they work very very well. Everyone has the ko2's and i decided to go for something different, haven't made a bad decision yet.
Just bought these. I haven't been in the market for at's for over 10 years and A LOT changed. I did research till my head hurt and picked SOMETHING ELSE! The guys at the tire shops talked me out of my other choice and into these. Not ashamed to admit I lost sleep agonizing over my choice. Your video helped set my mind at ease. Thank you sir.😌
Just bought 5 33 inch ko2s for my Jeep. I’m not too concerned with the Mud capability, I only ever off-road here in California in dirt and gravel and rocky terrain. This video made me happy about my purchase!
I have at least 5 rigs with ko2 and I will never switch unless I build a crawler. Best daily driving and off-roading tire on the market. Had these on my rigs for over 3 years only time I had a problem with warring on them was when I put them on my trailer and it would just chip the tread. But other then that best tire ever!
I love my KO2's and while I'm in western Washington as well I knew my rig would see more road miles than dirt so road manners was a must. We just did a road trip to AZ and they were great so I'm happy with mine.
If you’re not hard core in the mud, these are by far the the best overall tires you can purchase. On most any trail on the weekend, and still a good ride to work Monday morning.
They’re pretty loud lol I have to turn up my stereo but hey they look badass asf and they perform very well! I’m on my third set. I had money troubles and couldn’t get a a new set for a very long time. They were bald asf and still got my through tough weather days
Had dura track and grabber at’s get punctured by sharp rocks while running on my wood haul road... no failures with my ko2 tires going on 3rd set since 2017 50k they last
Dirt Lifestyle, congratulations on this video. It is without doubt the most technically objective review of any tire out there on TH-cam. As a long term user of this superb "all-round-do-everything -extremely-well-but-not-perfect-at-any-specific-task" tire, I feel your review is a totally accurate and fair on every point. Outstanding job sir!
I've been running the Goodyear MTR w/ Kevlar. 33x12.5/15 Nothing but praise. They are amazing offroad and handle extremely well on the road. And despite being a daily driver and putting on 40+ miles per day, i end up having to replace them due to age long before the tread wears down enough for replacement. All you have to do is make sure your alignment is set and you rotate them every oil change.
Most all-terrain tires actually perform really well on sand. The close tread pattern allows it to float on the sand as opposed to digging holes. The only thing that performs better is a dedicated sand paddle tire.
That and you must drop the air pressure considerably. I’ve found anything over 12psi in pure sand like at silver lake dunes and your vehicle is working harder than it needs to be
Ron France Airing down is a definite must, especially in softer sand. Just be careful and don’t go too low with the tire pressure unless you’re running bead locks 👍
Having a set of these previously myself I think your rating is pretty accurate. These tires do really good in basically everything except mud IMO. Loved the rock performance of these tires. Easy tire to live with. Good tire for the person usually not in mud or mostly on the hwy with some occasional off-road. Very durable in my experience.
I’ve had my KO2’s for 7 years with almost 90 thousand miles on them in cold winters, hot summers, rocky roads and pavement and I’m finally going to replace them with another set. I didn’t take care of them, I never rotated them and should’ve kept up with my Jeep’s alignment, imo my KO2’s would’ve probably lasted for 110 thousand miles. Best tires I’ve ever owned. The KO2’s that I will be putting on my Jeep now Have been updated with different materials hopefully they have the same quality as original. From what I hear they are also in process of upgrading them again.
I have tried Tokyo Open country, Nitto terra grapplers and Wranglers and the K02s are by far my favorite for mixed road offroad and snow. Took them to Moab and drove them all last winter and have been really impressed. Have not been in too much mud so may be different if I lived somewhere else.
I've had Bfg all Terrains on my jeep for that last 16 years, 33in and now 35in. I liked them enough to put a set of 32in on my expedition. Couple weeks a go I got to try them out on trail 22 windrock park and I was really impressed how they handled the slick clay mud on that trail although nothing was deep like a mud bog just wet rocks and rutted out hills . I had them at 15psi no beadlocks. So if you drive alot and still want a capable tire then I'd recommend the BFG all terrains.
I’ve used a lot of different tires over the years. Always end up back at KOs and now KO2s. No, they aren’t the best for some things, they’re ATs, they aren’t supposed to be the best for some things. BUT, for the price, they wear well and do most things satisfactorily . They’re pretty quiet on the road, they do sand , some mud, they aren’t mud tires , but can get you through normal mud you may happen upon. I live in the south, so snow is just not on the menu, but I’m told they do ok, I wouldn’t know. I run them on everything truck we have, from the k5 blazer to the 2500 Hd Duramax , The wrangler, all out stuff. I’m done trying new stuff, for an AT, these just work for me.
100% Agree. Road, Sand, Snow and Comfort. Low road noise too. And who doesn't love the look? I love them. I have them on my truck. I wheel on the beaches of the OBX to go fishing. It can get very soft. Air down and you're good to go. Between these and the Milestar Patagonias on my Jeeps, hard to beat!
I live in Az. and except for mud, these tires are MAGNIFICENT! I have em on my ‘93 OBS F-150 4x4. Super quiet and smooooth on pavement, long lasting mileage (50K tread warranty) and handles almost all terrain (except mud), like a champ! But…you pay what you get for….they ain’t the cheapest. Nice, fair, and honest video brother.
I'm on my second set, and am amazed how well they wear. The most durable tire I've ever used. Plus, they are practically run flat tires. I unknowingly drove to California and Back to Oregon twice(On and off road) with a big screw in one of them, and never had a flat.
Love my KO2's on my Ford Ranger. I've gotten over 55K miles on them, and still have Colorado legal winter tread. Likely the best all around tire for light to medium suv's or trucks. Above the half ton size, they have wear issues, especially if you do a lot of towing.
Just purchased my 1st set of KO2's for my 2020 Tundra TRD Pro. I do a lot of highway driving but I love the ability to take this rig offroad and not worry about the tires keeping up. I also deal with hurricane season and flash flood conditions in my area of Texas. I also plan to spend a lot more time in the hill country of Texas so it sounds like I am in good hands. Thanks for the review.
I had a set of these on my Jeep for years. After they wore out I replaced them with set of BF Goodrich KM3. After modifying my Jeep during the covid19 bs. I wanted more grip. So I could go to the places I couldn't go to before. These KM3's are pretty good on the highway and definitely great offroad in mud and on these dusty rock covered trails here in northern Nevada. Thanks for the video! 🇺🇸
@@bigslacker666 On the highway they both work great. The KO2's definitely had less noise in my Jeep. Offroad the KM3's definitely more gripping power, the KO2's do well offroad especially when new. I admit the KO2's are better in snow on the street driving, the KM3's are okay, a bit slippery on ice but do very well in snow mud mix offroading. I hope this is what you're looking for.
You just answered my question as to how these tires perform in snow. I have these tires on my Gen 1 SVT Raptor, this will be my first winter with the truck so I'm glad that I found your review. Thanks for doing this video.
Great honest accurate review. Thanks for that .I have run BF Goodrich all terrain tires in their various forms for 40 years. Where I live on SaltSpring Island I am at the end of a 11 km logging road built with sharp shot rock, shale mud and snow in winter . Some of my neighbours have run other tires and eventually switched to the BFG,S . In 40 years I have only destroyed 1 of these tires and it was totally my fault , spinning in sharp shale and destroyed the sidewall. I am 60 now but used to wheel pretty hard had various vehicles over the years that always had front and rear lockers ,winches front and back and custom suspensions . These vehicles were used while I worked in the patch and logging as well and the tires never let me down. My current rides are a chev 3500 crew cab long box with lockers front and back and winches . This unit has a 100 gallon double wall slip tank in it and various chain saws and crap and corruption in it all the time. I use it to pull a 8000 lb 26 ft crew boat on a tandem axle trailer . Tires are often carrying a great deal of weight under severe conditions and they stand up well. If they did not I would use something else. My other ride is a 1953 Dodge M-37 and unfortunately I keep it bone stock so BFG does not make a bias ply all terrain in 9x16 tube type tire otherwise I would give them a try so I am stuck with the military non directional tires that last about 10,000 miles at best and are like driving on billiard balls on wet pavement.
Great review. I would have to completely agree. Ran them on my Ram sport 1500 for 2 yrs. But the Toyo AT3 on the same Ram sport is game changer. The Toyo At3 outperforms on every level I've personally seen and done. Had the at3 for over a yr and still look and feel brand new. Go with the at3
@@thegiant573, haven't done any mudding in them, but still running my same set, 3 winters, lots of ice, no deep mud yet, but they got 55k of hard driving as of now. Super happy
I ran down 3 sets of KO's on my '97 f150 off road. Mostly highway and heavy haul (4-7k loads), and a lot of windy driving on the Missouri Ozark roads. Also, a lot of gravel road driving and the performance in deep snow on uphill grades was beyond impressive. I'm looking for a set of KO2's for my (new to me 2011 ecoboost super crew). What else can I say. Sold for life!
On every four wheel drive vehicle I’ve ever owned I’ve had bfg ko2 on them I feel like they are the best total value in a truck tire. And unless your driving in absolute slop they do everything well and very predictable.
I've had a set of 275 60 20s on my '16 GMC Sierra reg cab long bed for almost 2 years and I LOVE them! Almost zero road noise, handle very well through the curves on asphalt.
I have 265-75-16 KO2's on my 06 Taco, also have 35-12.5-17 KO2's for her when my lift is installed. Plus front DV8 winch bumper, rear Fab4 bumper with spare tire mount. KO2's are awesome. Can't wait to try them out this winter..I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. 4 seasons of fun wheelin'!
I put 50k on a set of ko1 33s and my friend put them on his jeep and he has 90k on them and I confirmed that because I gave him that jeep so they have 140k and still have a little ways to go to the wear bars and they wore perfectly. Those tires wear like iron and work ridiculously well. My friend is going to get at least another 10k out of his probably more because he doesn't want to buy tires or can't. That's the second set of tires I've given him lol he's not getting another set. I just put a new set of ko2's on my wife's Cherokee so hopefully they do as well as the ko1s. I run Goodyear mtr's 33s then 35s on my jeep they wear fairly quickly I've been through 3 sets in 80k probably maybe more but I don't wear mine all the way down. Also the mtr's dont wear very evenly unless you rotate them religiously
BFG tires have been around for decades I’ve had multiple sets. They aren’t great in super deep mud but other than that they are some of the best tires you can buy. Dont be afraid to buy them
Living in Spain, I ride a Discovery 300tdi with KO2 on snow, highway, rocks, sand, mud and dust tracks. I agree en"tire"ly. Good video buddy! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🤗
I have lived in Colorado, Nevada and now North Carolina and have always used these tires and love them on any conditions. Have them on my 2008 JK 35's.
My family runs K02s for all our vehicles, mostly street use. Great mostly street tire, perfect for dirt road and jobsite driving, not something to take on the trails. On the street the most miles we've got out of a set was 160k with no weird wear patterns
@@jonnyhilljackson5788 We drive for a living, lots of highway driving so our tires last about a year, year and a half max. There's a lot of little things you can do to almost double your tire life
I have these tires on 3 4x4s, and absolutely swear by them. Living in the region of Canada that I do, and given the amount of traveling over the highway I've done, these have never let me down. That being said, they are less than stellar in real icy situations on the highway. I think, you summed them up well at the end. They are an outstanding tire, but no tires perform at a level 10 in all scenarios. Thanks for the video!
No tire is good on ice. Studded snows can get you home. Everything else is at your own peril. That being said I live in Northern New England and I've never had a bad experience with KO2s on icy roads. They will still slip and slid but no more than a non studded winter tire.
I love my BFG’s. Also in the PNW. I have mounted these on my last 4 LT/SUV rigs. Favorite story, I bought an 2014 New FJ Cruiser TRD, the BFG was mounted from the factory. I sold the rig at about 180k miles, same set of tires. It was a daily driver South Puyallup to Settle daily commute. Never has an issue.
I have 35” on my wrangler for 50k miles, still have enough tread for another 12k to 16k miles. Rotate and balance every 6k miles. Incredible tire. Going to try the 37” next.
Traded in a 4runner with KO2s for a raptor with of course KO2s. Happy to have them again, they do well on and offroad + good in the snow up here in the mountains where I live. Really good allrounders.
Pretty spot on. I keep buying sets of these. Took my 100 series to the beach this year and was shocked how well they did without airing down. It was extremely convenient. 👍👍
Same experience. Some people air-down way way too often. They loose sight of the pavement and out they get. Gotta be a shock to there style if they ever took up driving a log truck...😄
That first 1m30 totally summed up the difference between mud and AT perfectly!! Also gave my brain a picture of how tread patterns actually work🤩thanks man!!
I love these tires, I’ve used them for about 10 years. I daily drive these on my work truck. Much better than a highway tire but definitely not a mud terrain tire.
I run the load range E versions (10 ply) through corn fields all day and they are the only tires that I have run that withstand the cornstalks. On my second set and not a single flat.... Amazing.
I just watched another video, comparing the KO2s vs Cooper at3 4s and you can see the identical suv loose control for a split second with the ko2s on wet road. However, it was a light suv, which could be the reason.
very helpful. I'm central canadian and thus we get a stupid amount of snow and during the winter we like to drive out onto the lakes for ice fishing. The huge lakes here can get massive snow drifts and ice ridges so knowing as much as I can is great. awesome vid
What you said at the end it was meant the most to me. A tire that always balances and my truck always can align means the most to me. Tbf every AT and MT tire I’ve owned has done very well but not all of them have given me the easiest experience when it comes to typical maintenance except for BFG tires...
I am on my second set of K02s now for my wrangler JK. I had 33s before and now running 35s. Used the first set for 80K kms and still had plenty of life left. Used them mostly in sand including the empty quarter crossing (worlds largest desert). Never had a puncture and rode them in 4-5 psi in the sand.. Rock solid
But keep in mind it was a 2 door sport stripped out without backseat or hard top and no bumpers front and rear. Min weight for max performance for the tall dunes. On my 4 door rubicon with steel bumpers and winch I don't run below 8 psi with beadlocks.
@@John-uo1qf There are two load ratings E load C for 35inch tires. In the middle east they sell E load only and it does not even bulge / flex at the sidewalls at 15 psi. Also, In the sands the risk of cuts and punctures is minimal unlike rock crawling
I remember when the BFG all terrain came out in 1976 and put a set on my CJ5. This tire has been a leader in all terrain for 48 years and still the best seller today
Your review is spot on! I'm going to comment on all your points as per my personal experience with the KO2's on my 2018 Denali HD Duramax with LT265/60R20 load E. Daily driver, plowed for two years, tow a 36' 5th wheel camper, and just replaced my KO2's with another set after 60,000 miles, probably could have gotten another 10K out of them but I live in Western New York and we're supposed to get a 'once in a generation' snow storm so I played it safe...to the tune of $1,550. Anyway, I love these tires.I run them at 75 psi rear and 70 psi front, only rotated three times, perfectly even wear So here goes: Mud: agree. They suck in the mud. Road manners: agree, awesome on road. Very quiet, fantastic handling on both wet and dry roads. Sand: no personal experience in sand. Snow: amazing snow performance! GREAT for plowing or just for not getting stuck! Unless there's mud under the snow! Rocks: no experience with rock-climbing, but definitely awesome on unpaved dirt or stone roads. And curbs...😉. The BF Goodrich KO2's are definitely a great tire for my needs.
I've pulled KO's and KO2's off of multiple vehicles I've purchased. I hated them in all aspects. Put on some Falken Wildpeaks and they are AMAZING! They're super quiet, excellent in snow, rain, wet trail, rock obstacles, rock trails and they handle on the road like a highway tread. They have been the best all around tire I've ever had on a vehicle.
I search before buy tire and don't want to buy KO2. I usually driving in city but weekends going wilderness.. And in here (Antalya/TURKEY) it can be so rainy. I read lots of comments about KO2 is very bad performance on wet road and it could be noise also in dry road. So i search with tire %70 road %30 offroad performance. And find FALKEN Wildpeaks and HANKOOK Dynapro 2 and decide to choose HANKOOK.. also half price of KO2 and excellent tire (For my conditions)
I loved my KO2's on my XJ. Quiet and smooth on the streets and highways, yet nice and grippy on the dirt, rocks, sand and mud on the trails. They did so well as a "Jack of All Trades" tire, that I bought another set for my JL Wrangler Islander. Hopefully they'll last 50,000 miles or so. The old KO all-terrains seemed to lose tread after 25,000.
This is my first choice tire for any of my rigs, for as much as we all want to be "offroaders" this is a great all around tire for what most us will use them for. Great wear and easy to balance ....My dad ran a set on his daily driven 93 XJ almost 100k, till they finally just wore out and the tire shop sold him a new set . LoL!!
I hear ya about this tire not being such a mud tire…. It works for my highway, dirt roads, snow and icy conditions! I’m super pleased and I’m a fan boy now! Peace Be The Journey!
Your review is right on with my experience with the KO2’s that came stock with the winter package on my 2017 JK Sport. I have 30,000 miles on mine and they still look like new and are dead quite on the pavement. Their snow performance is outstanding. One complaint I have heard is wet road traction and I have found that you need to keep tire pressure below 32 psi for best wet road traction.
agreed on the tire pressure. When discount tire put my 35x12.5R18 on my Jeep they put 42psi in them. Horrible. I have run mine at 30 psi for 3 years now and see zero wear and great ride.
Great review! Originally put them on because I needed a D or E load tire for towing a trailer and this was all I could find for a 20" rim at the time. They've been great towing or in the dirt. This winter in Texas I drove for hundreds of miles on snowy and icy roads and they did excellent. Will buy them again.
been running BFG'S for years on Jeeps, 1/2 tons, and a 1 ton and been very happy with them. they do wear faster than duratracs but well worth the extra money living in the BC Rockies. every tire is a compromise but the BFG's check the most boxes for my needs. i towed 30 foot holiday trailer from Jasper Alberta to Radium BC through 2+ feet of snow with no plows in sight and never felt less than confident.
Just found your video tonight. I put a set of these tires on my brand new Chevrolet Crew Cab 4x4 about 7 years back. Now in Michigan we have the Silver lake dunes for All terrain vehicles to go on and they are challenging for sure! I had my wife and two sons and our golden retiever with me! I have never been on these dunes so . Why not buy a orange flag and take my brand new truck up some crazy sand hills🤷😅. They have a test hill for everyone that after you make it up your on to the big stuff! Everyone was airing down their tires so I figured I must to! I kept hearing others passing me yelling 10 & 8? At first I had know idea what they were talking about and then it clicked💡👈. My tire pressure!!! I thought dam 8 in the front they yelled & 10 in the rear! Sounded pretty low to me, but I did it. Now they had some really supped up rides on these hills and here I am with my family and shinny new truck! I walked straight up the test hill as many couldn't make that one! Then I see the next one 😳🙈. It was big! It started on top of the hill I was on dipping and going straight up the next which was BIG! I watched many built rails heading up and 3/4 way and would just bury all 4 in the sand and have to back down! Now once your past the test hill there is no turning back that I saw! My wife is yelling take her back saying she doesn't want to do it! I said back where? Everyone is at the top lined up waiting to go! I told her we have to go! So I put my truck in low and watching many vehicles trying to get up it failing badly and I'm thinking I really do not want to back down that hill!!!. I decided I have to do something so I went and at the bottom between each hill as I picked up speed to climb the big one there is a pit dug from everyone starting at the bottom between the hills! You can't see it either! I hit that 3 foot pit and I could hear and feel my shocks all bottom out hard! My wife is screaming as our 80 lb Golden Retreiver bounced off the back seat straight up to the roof of the cab and back onto the seat! The dog was screaming along with my wife then to let him out too! (Joking) It took him a bit to return back to the correct zip code too! 🥴😵😅🤣. I headed up this massive sand hill in low 4x4 and I could feel myself slowly loosing speed until 3/4 way the truck just died??? I didn't expect that one!!😮😫. I can see all the vehicles lined up at the top who made it watching us fools have to slide/back down the hill which was not fun! I thought as I backed half way up the hill in front of the big one that low is not giving me enough speed!! I put it in 4 high and was ready to give it hell as my wife & dog are yelling let them both OUT! I said hold on and took off as I see vehicles ahead of me already getting stuck part way up! I literally had to shift a little to the side to get around the cool sand rail that was kicking sand up on all 4 again and my truck just walked right past him and straight to the top with all the cool built trucks! I seemed to be the only new crew cab up there as I heard many clapping and cheering us on that a stock truck with a leveling kit on the front made it up no problem! I even had a few guys walk up to us after we made it to the beach part and parked asking me about my truck & how they saw me walk straight up that hill! So yes these tires are very capable in sand as long as you air them down pretty dam low as far as I thought. Our dog has recovered from putting his head threw my cab roof too!😆😂🐕. Thought I'd share this story as you said in this video you didn't have any sand hills to properly test it! I did for you! Never went back and sold my orange flag pole and that truck years ago now! Thanks for your video! Greg Michigan!😎🤙
I have them on both my Dakota and Full size Ram. I love them! I actually ran over a 2x6 with nails(A LOT) sticking out and didn't pop a single hole. On gravel they kick up rock like no business even at a slow speed, the traction is unbelievable compared to standard tire. I tend to be in a hurry some days and my cornering has improved lol. I have stopped white knuckling when it's icy out, not saying that these tires make me invincible but they sure as hell improve shitty road conditions. When it comes to the dreaded Hydroplane the possibility has decreased considerably. But these are just a small town MN, hold my beer and watch this shit, Lady's opinion. Each person will find a fault with something given the chance it's how you deal with it that matters
I’m in Western WA too, I’m getting some KO2’s for my dually. Overall solid at anything my truck will see this winter and fall. My truck is from the early 90’s which means I don’t have some driver friendly technology newer 4WD trucks have so my tire choice matters more. I’m confident in KO2’s and I would trust them to save my family if needed in a pinch.
I've ran the Ko2 and the Toyo A/T over the years, and I'm actually *super* impressed with the Falken Wilpeak at3w. They even handle sticky mud pretty well, if you air down.
@@East_Coast_Ghost86 agree. I was very impressed with them in the snow and icy roads. Haven't had them in mud but I'm looking forward to it 👍i recommend these tires to anyone looking at ATs
I put Falken AT3W on my truck that sees rocky trails and forest service/fire roads in CA Sierra Nevadas as well as street and towing. Best tires I've had on that truck by far. For the price, really hard to beat.
We’ve found on our company trucks (70+ half tons) that these don’t wear well and our tire supplier says that he hears that a lot and rarely brings them in anymore. I’m not sure if it’s just the 10 plies or if the 6 and 8 plies do the same, we only put on the 10 plies because of the harsh environment our equipment is used in. We’ve found the coopers to be a far more durable tire with better wear characteristics.
Absolutely...our pipeline company trucks run the ST Maxx. I was going to run them on my daily driver JK, but the STT pro was actually less expensive, so I went with a set of those this time.
I've had a set of ko2s on my Taco for close to 40k miles now and love them. I disagree for the snow part though: they are too hard to grip when it's cold (-10c ~ 14f). On ice they are literally close to being dangerous. Goodyear's Duratracs are way better in snow and icy conditions.
I have had them in deep snow aired down and they're ok. On ice is another story, but that is to be expected they have a real hard tread compound. You almost never get punctures with the KO2's. The ice traction problem is easily solved with a set of chains, and a good quality set is very easy to install. If you're in any western state, your supposed to be carrying them anyway. I wouldn't give up every thing else that a KO2 does extremely well for that.
@@markcarpenter3600 I'm in Quebec, north eastern Canada. In my region, we average 50%+ humidity all year-long, so icy roads in the winter time (mid November to end of March) are common. Snow is a daily thing here during 4 months here, so having them aired-down isn't a good thing. Wanted to point this out in case someone in the winter-country was considering those for winter-driving. In Oregon they might be good with the aforementioned precautions though!
@@windex23 I 100%. I see far more sand rocks and dirt than snow. They wouldn't even be up for evaluation if I had to deal with snow and ice on a daily basis.
I bought my first set of bfg all terrains in I believe 1977 back when a 12.50 15 were huge they were great long lasting tires my son had a set on his 2014 GMC 40,000 miles looked nearly new
I live on the Kitsap Peninsula and have these tires on my Jeep Cherokee.. 255/55/18.. I was out at the same beach in heavy rain and had absolutely no issues out there even with the load I was carrying. Snow up on a logging road in the lower Olympic Mts this last week in a foot of snow with also no issues. Had to chain up all four to pull a steep hill but otherwise love these.
I have loved these tires for a while. I have been using BFG ATs since the 70s they have always performed for me better than any other. Growing up in Santa Barbara California and wheeling all over the Mojave and death valley they are outstanding in the rocks sand and snow. We don’t really have much mud at all so I’ve never really had any experience with mud. But for everything else and the great on highway characteristics make this a truly amazing AT Tire
Not the best at anything, but really good at everything.
Nope... slip sooo fast in mud, wear poorly, balance poorly, hydroplane easily... very not worth the money unless you live in the southwest and are willing to rotate them every 3k miles, or deal with bad ride and noise after the first 5 or 6k miles.
@@evolutionglitch4739 You should be rotating ever 3k miles anyway... these are all terrains not mud terrains
@@GamingwithIinfected true, fair point. Its just easy to forget to do it that often, when oil is every five.

Good to know I live in PA and just bought a jeep TJ that had these on them watched this video to get an idea of how well they'd handle snow
I had a flat only once, it was a nasty 3” screw tho. Great tires.
Mine have never balanced well. No matter what i do/try, theyve travelled from uk to india twice now and just 1 puncture!
Will you get the KO3 tires?
Love the KO2’s. Just did 7,102 miles from Illinois. Went through Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon, Washington, and back home. Took highway 1 from San Fran north. Lots of curves! They handled everything I needed them to. Great review!
Kash Tinsman they are quiet to my ears. No roar when ya go down the road.
Kash Tinsman mine are very quiet on my tacoma
Got 60,000 miles on mine so far on my Tundra! Lots of back roads and highway. Love these tires!!
I got a set on my tundra and they are excellent all around and they last so long. Almost impossible to wear out.
Got them on my Tundra too. Liking them very much.
Good luck with them on my Tundra also. All around really good tire on and off road. Tow a 7000 lb travel trailer about half the time. Just installed another new set. Got 50,000 miles out of them. Happy!
Did you have any issues with balancing? I'm looking to buy a set and that's one issue I've heard of.
@@thollingsworth4910 none what so ever! Going on 66000 miles now!
Summary: Even at less than 75% tread here's my feedback:
For light-mid duty vehicles I'm set on the KO2's.
No such thing as 4 wheel stop on ice so 'Slow the hell Down!'
Mud - KO2 A/T's slip a bit more however it hasn't left me at all devastated.
Been running ko's since 2001.

Just bought 5 33 inch ko2s for my Jeep. I’m not too concerned with the Mud capability, I only ever off-road here in California in dirt and gravel and rocky terrain. This video made me happy about my purchase!
I rate them up highly in Australia.. I use them ..
One of the best technical and categorical analysis of ANY product out there, not just tires. Awesome.

Outstanding job sir!
I've been running the Goodyear MTR w/ Kevlar. 33x12.5/15
Nothing but praise. They are amazing offroad and handle extremely well on the road. And despite being a daily driver and putting on 40+ miles per day, i end up having to replace them due to age long before the tread wears down enough for replacement.
All you have to do is make sure your alignment is set and you rotate them every oil change.
I put these on anything that drives in the snow. Drove out of 3ft of fresh snowfall last winter.
@@ronfrance4041 u need to come to Eastern Wa. No mud. Most of the time.
Mud and ice
@@RadDadisRad Getting additional sipping added does a lot for these on ice. But nothing is going to make them a mud tire.
Two full years on the Tacoma. Commuting, gravel road driving, snow, hunting etc. Still going strong. Love them.
Looking forward to put these on my 2015 tacoma
Windrock? Tennessee? Awesome place 😊

How many miles did you get from them?
Love my KO2's on my Ford Ranger. I've gotten over 55K miles on them, and still have Colorado legal winter tread.
Likely the best all around tire for light to medium suv's or trucks. Above the half ton size, they have wear issues, especially if you do a lot of towing.
I've had mine for five years and they have been a really good tire. Mine are a mixed use with a lot of highway miles. I would buy them again.
My 15' Z71 Silverado loves the KO'2s!! Colorado native with all kinds of crazy weather and mountain roads.
Have had ko all terrains. 30 years and never left in the mud any place.

Great evaluation, I work for BFG. And I put the KO2 on all of my trucks.

Dude thank you for an honest look at these tires! A great review showing your concerns from your neck of the woods!
Ove mine on my Silverado. People ask me about them too lol.
BFG tires have been around for decades I’ve had multiple sets. They aren’t great in super deep mud but other than that they are some of the best tires you can buy. Dont be afraid to buy them
I can hear the black top.eating them away every time I accelerate lol

Great mostly street tire, perfect for dirt road and jobsite driving, not something to take on the trails. On the street the most miles we've got out of a set was 160k with no weird wear patterns
160k? Got 14 years out set ko version pre ko2. 40k
Thanks for the review. I have heard a lot of people recommend them, but never a review like this.
My raptor came with a brand new set of these. So far I like them.
Love them on my Raptor too. Great tires.

British rig with the hood up, this is the most honest video I have seen in a while.
Amazing.
I've had 2 sets of KO2, skittish on wet tarmac, pretty good off road. I went with Coopers ST Maxx next and love them.
The ko2 is the best sand tire I could ask for and they ride nice on the road. The tread lasts a long time.
Rock solid
5psi with or without bead locks?
@@John-uo1qf with beadlocks
But keep in mind it was a 2 door sport stripped out without backseat or hard top and no bumpers front and rear. Min weight for max performance for the tall dunes.
On my 4 door rubicon with steel bumpers and winch I don't run below 8 psi with beadlocks.
@@saifuddinahmadable My JKU is right at 5000 lbs. I never go below 15
@@John-uo1qf There are two load ratings E load C for 35inch tires. In the middle east they sell E load only and it does not even bulge / flex at the sidewalls at 15 psi. Also, In the sands the risk of cuts and punctures is minimal unlike rock crawling
Love the break down in the categories and legit getting out ther on the terrain
Anyway, I love these tires.I run them at 75 psi rear and 70 psi front, only rotated three times, perfectly even wear So here goes:
Mud: agree.
Made in china too
I search before buy tire and don't want to buy KO2.
@PUREOWN they are not made in China
@@jasonbrushett2005 falken wildpeaks are.
@PUREOWN made in Japan by its parent company Summitmo
I loved my KO2's on my XJ. Quiet and smooth on the streets and highways, yet nice and grippy on the dirt, rocks, sand and mud on the trails. They did so well as a "Jack of All Trades" tire, that I bought another set for my JL Wrangler Islander. Hopefully they'll last 50,000 miles or so. The old KO all-terrains seemed to lose tread after 25,000.
Old Ko in 31 had 18/32 or 19/32 if dropped down 30 15/32. Big diff
Mine are super loud. But I love them anyways.
Are they really quiet on the highway?
This is exactly the review and information I was looking for on this tire as I’m considering switching from KM2’s to these KO2’s. Thank you !
Unless you consistently find yourself on wet clay mud the KO2 should serve you very well. Just bought my second set.
I had KOs for 75000 miles, they got hard before they wore out.
Best tires in my opinion, I have 31s on my 93 pathfinder
I'm pulling 12 ton every day 285 65 r20 ko2
been running BFG'S for years on Jeeps, 1/2 tons, and a 1 ton and been very happy with them. they do wear faster than duratracs but well worth the extra money living in the BC Rockies. every tire is a compromise but the BFG's check the most boxes for my needs. i towed 30 foot holiday trailer from Jasper Alberta to Radium BC through 2+ feet of snow with no plows in sight and never felt less than confident.
How well did the KO2s handle in the snow and slush ❄️ ❄️ ❄️????
I got 55,000 miles on my first set of BFG AT KO Tires, and they still had some good summer tread left on them. PA Winters are more demanding.
How well did they do in the heavy snow and heavy rain???
I too Love these Tires! I have been amazed by how they do on rocks. I'd love to see a comparison with the KM3's.
Been driving BFG's for years. Really the only tire I really trust. Here in Africa it's the only tire that I have no problem with punctures at all.
gold standard tire for “general” use
I absolutely LOVE these tires and it’s nice to see that u agree. I’m ok with it not being recommended for mud.
Yep; have realistic expectations, and you won’t be disappointed.
I've ran the Ko2 and the Toyo A/T over the years, and I'm actually *super* impressed with the Falken Wilpeak at3w. They even handle sticky mud pretty well, if you air down.
I ran a set of KO2s and didn't like them. On wildpeak at3w now and love them. They're awesome in snow
@@nickstewart1218 yeah. The wilpeak is a dramatically underrated tire. Best AT I've ever used in mud as well.
@@iamblaineful I definitely see myself getting another set once these are toast 👍
The best tyre for me. Using all seasons. Got the first generation for 12 years ! Now with the second one. Great tyre and style.
I have these on my JK Unlimited...and I’ve gone up my 7 degree hill in 18” of fresh snow with No problem....love these tires..
Kustom13racing The Cooper S/T Maxx?
I've heard that too. The older generation BFG's AT/TA's did not have that problem from what I've heard.
yall recommend cooper st maxx?
How noisy are thd Coopers on the highway?
Absolutely...our pipeline company trucks run the ST Maxx. I was going to run them on my daily driver JK, but the STT pro was actually less expensive, so I went with a set of those this time.
I've had a set of ko2s on my Taco for close to 40k miles now and love them. I disagree for the snow part though: they are too hard to grip when it's cold (-10c ~ 14f). On ice they are literally close to being dangerous. Goodyear's Duratracs are way better in snow and icy conditions.
I heard the Duractracs get really loud and noisy after a while
I have had them in deep snow aired down and they're ok.
Yea Duratracs have better traction but they are super loud after 20k. Had a lot of flats with duratracs too. KO2s are better overall.
