    I watched enough of the movie to get the gist of it, and then I washed my bag with a little Dawn (as Coach suggested). It came out beautifully and is now hanging up to dry. There's a lot of white on my bag and but I had very little scrubbing to do after the soaking. I am so thrilled. Thank you! BTW, I also bought mine from a thrift year a few years ago. I tried cleaning with all sorts of thing during this time but never thought of washing it.

      @@TheScottCottage,the hairspray works when the fabric is wet and it has to be the airasol kind. What else would you like to know about repairs? For touch ups on leather I moisturize the bag 1st with leather lotion and if the paint needs retouched up than I use angelus leather paint. Alot of the things that you need to do repairs can be found in walmart.I use tear mender,fabric tack,kiwi leather shoe dye,kiwi or cadillac leather lotion,micro fiber cloth and other things

    I just got a knock off leather coach purse from the thrift store today and it’s adorable. I can’t wait to start using it, but it’s reaaaaally dirty on the inside, like she had carried rocks around and had snacks loose inside it. How do I clean the fabric inside without damaging the leather outside ? I’m really afraid to soak it and have the leather dry out, it’s not like these bags, it’s entirely soft leather on the outside. It only turns partially inside out, too

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can pull the liner out and away from the outside and maybe try to clean just the liner.

    I just cleaned my first Coach bag last week. I actually had issues of the brown leather at the top bleeding a little into the fabric, I showed it in my haul video. I didn't intend on getting the leather wet but it did a little. I used Oxi clean spray. It isn't too bad but def didn't notice it happened until after it dried. I wish I would have had before and after pictures bc even with the slight bleeding it was a THOUSAND times better. Have you ever had trouble with the bleeding? If so were you able to get it out?

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don’t think I have had that happen. Just where the oxyclean discolored the leather as I show. Clearly oxyclean and leather can not be crossed lol. Sorry I don’t know how to fix that. Only thing I would know to try is soaking it like I did my bags. If it doesn’t work you didn’t loose anything 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, if there is some bleeding I would recommend soaking it a second time in warm water. The bleeding is just a surface stain in my experience and it should come out with a second soaking. I hope this helps!

      I unfortunately don’t come across luxury bags (Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci etc) but I am partial to a few brands. I love Coach because they are usually easy to clean up and make new again. They also have a big following on Poshmark and I have no trouble selling them. I don’t make a HUGE profit on Coach but if my cost per item is low enough, it’s worth my time to clean them. I also love Dooney, Kate Spade and Michael Kors. They all sell well for me and I love the satisfaction of cleaning them up. I actually have a few Kates and Dooneys to list right now.

    Great video! Can you use the same technique with a navy and white buffalo plaid canvas bag?

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I probably wouldn’t personally. The navy will bleed onto the white. What you can try is using COLD water to saturate the spots and clean that way. I wouldn’t soak it and if the white part is the lining try to pull it out of the bag just to keep it away from the navy. Otherwise it’s going to bleed while drying. Hope this helps!

  • @ninak8506
    @ninak8506 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This was very interesting. But ihave a canvas tote bag with leather trim. A coke exploded in my tote bag 😱, but when I washed it the leather color ran and stained the canvas everywhere it attached to the bag. I don't know how to fix that. Ideas?

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This can happen. Mine didn’t because it is all pink. If the trim is a different color, especially lighter than the bag, I suggest using cold water. In order to fix the problem the only thing I know to try is to try to soak just the leather straps in warm water and see if some of that will bleed out

    Great video! How do you clean the inside of a bag that won’t invert so that the fabric has to stay inside?

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are a little tricky for sure. If you can soak it with some soap of some kind and then try to clean it with a soft bristle brush (nail brushes work great and toothbrushes as well) Other than that you just have to do your best. Just disclose that the I side has some marks/stains and sell as is if you can’t clean it. A lot of people don’t care about the inside as much 😉

    • @Jesuscoffeeandme
      @Jesuscoffeeandme 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just cleaned one purse like that. I mixed some oxi clean in a small bow, then I applied some oxi with a tooth brush, left it for 10 minutes and came used more wet toothbrush with the oxi water and scrubbed the whole thing, after that, I used a white wet old towel, wiped the lining, rinsed it, clean again, then rinsed it again in a way of trying to get the oxi clean residue as much as a could. I don’t know if that makes sense!? But the key is the soaking part, 10 minutes will do it! ✨

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you do if the colors are complete opposite? I have a sateen cream background with black graffiti and fuchsia poppy flowers sporadically about the “black and white” graffiti. Inside is bright fuchsia. Could so easily bleed into the cream background. Will cold water with a drop of oxy and no friction be enough to not have a heartache on my hands??

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that can be very tricky. Can the liner inside the bag pull out and away from the rest of the bag? If so I would suggest trying to clean the liner separately.
      If that isn’t feasible, yes possibly cold water, cleaner and a little elbow grease may be your only option.

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely. But if you only set it in one spot it may leave a “water mark.” I clean my leather bags by soaking them in arm water. It helps if the bag (or whatever item you have) has water spots to make them disappear. I actually have some leather “Toms” boots that have water spots. I plan to clean them soon. Would that be a video of interest maybe? I can show how I clean leather?

    The lining of the inside of my Coach bag is 100% polyester and is bright red in color (they exterior is firm treated red pebbled leather). I need to clean it but I’m worried about water staining…
    Is water staining likely to happen even if I don’t completely soak the inside of my bag?

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohhh thats a tough one. If the lining can pull out from the leather, I would pull that so its inside out. Clean the lining that way so your not risking getting the leather wet. If the lining doesnt come out I would say you would have no other choice but to wet the whole bag. If you were to spot clean the inside it just would be risking water marks on the outside. Best of luck to you! Let me know what you end up doing! I always ask myself "am I going to be upset if I ruin this bag?" If the answer is yes then maybe you should have it professionally cleaned. If no? Then go for it!

    After washing and the bag started to have bubbles how do you fix it?

    • @TheScottCottage

      What kind of material is the bag? And can you explain the bubbles?

      TheScottCottage canvass I think. Like there’s air in between the exterior and interior lining.

    Ruined 2 bags cleaning them this way. The color bled everywhere onto the bag.

      Ok 2 questions. We’re the bags different colors? As I state in the video you don’t want to soak 2 bags together that are different colors for that exact reason. And second question, did you use hot water? Warm water works best as hot water can damage the bag and make a lot of the color come out. I have been using this method on 100+ bags. I have never had the color bleed before. What brand were the bags may I ask? I have cleaned Coach and Dooney bags with the canvas and never had bleeding to where it damages the bags.

      TheScottCottage I cleaned the bags individually. They are both my own personal bags that I bought new. (Years ago) The bags both had fuschia leather straps. One is a beige colored op art Ashley with pink leather and the other is a brown signature tote with a big pink leather band around it and pink straps. When it happened to the brown one, I thought mistakenly that it was the inner lining that bled out onto the outside. But then when I did my beige one with a beige interior, it happened with that one too. Also, this was my own personal trial and error, wasn’t led to this method from this video. I just found it while I was searching for a video to try to fix the bleeding. 💕

      Ah ok gotcha. Im sorry that happened to you! I have never had a problem with the color bleeding per se. But I have heard that if the lining is a dark color (brown, navy, black) and the outside of the bad is lighter, then there could be a problem there. Because the inside lining may bleed (especially if its the first time the bag has been cleaned). Obviously that color could bleed onto the light part which would not be good! If it were me I would try soaking in cold water first. Some good elbow grease and a brush on the stains and just see what happens. If you notice some color in the water I would rinse immediately. Defiantly a lot of trial and error to find these things out hahah. In your case you way want to try to soak it again in warm water. Since most of the color probably already bleed out it should come off the lighter parts now. Good luck!❤️

    Part of it is leather right? So submerging it in water didn’t ruin the leather?

      No however its important to condition the leather after you soak it. Some leather you do have to be careful. Especially if the color bleeds. But since it was trimmed in leather it was not an issue. :)

    Did u use hot 🔥 or cold water

    • @TheScottCottage
      @TheScottCottage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use hot if the bag has no leather and no areas that are lighter that the color can bleed out onto. If there are those areas I will use warm water and just keep an eye on it.
