If youre just starting out and asking because you are thinking of buying one, I highly suggest to take my first course as I cover all of that in detail and play and demonstrate the difference in sound between the Dilruba, Esraj , and Tar Shenhai. Keithbeber.com . But in short a Dilruba has more strings so its a little more resonant than an Esraj. Because of the extra strings and shape of the sound box its a little more twangier and has a "boxier" sound producing a sound slightly similar to the sound of a Saxaphone....tendency to be a little more sharper in the upper frequencies. an Esraj has a more rounder sound a little more smoother, at least the smaller version.
Where can I find the full version of this video? Seems like it was cut short for some reason.
This was short video I did covering the basics. If youre at this level then I suggest taking my beginners course 1 here at keithbeber.com
