@@learnesrajdilrubaonline1088 i have played guitar and cello and violin and all sorts of stringed instruments for more than 20 years..... i can not figure out how to tune this instrument i check online all over the place, and they all say "there is no specific tuning" like... what? and so i was like.. im just going to follow this guy, did exactly what you did, and broke a string also dude, why not fix your string that you are going to make a video about tuning, hahaha "this one is broken so just dont tune this one" lol
@@daneguitarist1 Where did you buy the string? Im sure its a cheap string. Where did you buy your Esraj or Dilruba? if its the one that came with it when you bought 9 time out of 10 its not that great. Ive been playing for many years and havent broke any playing strings yet. all mine are the original. I didnt change the string because I moved out of my country and dont have that particular string anymore. Aslo that string low pa is mainly for resonance so not really effecting the overall sound.
@@daneguitarist1 sa re ga ma pa da ni sa same as do re mi fa so la ti do. so youre asking me what note is So. Depends what sa or Do is? Is your Esraj tuned to C? tuned to C#? D? D#? E? It depends on that
The bridge on the Esraj and Dilruba has a Radius to it just like the instruments in the Violin family because it allows you to play each string individually with the bow.
2:42 This Low String actually popped so you may have to replace it. They make amazing Esraj Strings that'll sound amazing on this instrument and the Ellora Strings are amazing they even have a Tuning Chart you can use. Actually it's supposed to be ma Sa Pa Sa (or Fa Do Sol Do in Solfedge) like the 1st 4 playing strings on a Sitar.
It's the same tuning as a Sitar but you use a Bow, I use a Cello Bow because it allows me to play Choral arrangements of songs such as a Carpenter's Christmas arranged by Roger Emerson
4:21 If you've ever tuned the frets on a Sitar before it's the same thing for the Esraj and Dilriba and even the Taus which is a Peacock version of those instruments.
0:40 The Dilruba has up to 7 extra Sympathetic Strings that run all the way up to the headstock, they're attached to tuners that run down the center of it and they also pass over a Jawari Bridge so that when they vibrate they buzz so they'll sound like a Sitar. Some of them have 6 playing strings.
It has frets just like a Sitar which are moveable so you can temper each note of the Chromatic Scale to be more in tune depending on the key you're playing in. This is a really old idea that came from western instruments like the Lute and Viola da Gamba so yeah another East meets West instrument.
3:57 That last Sympathetic String tuner broke so you may wanna consider changing those friction pegs to guitar tuners cause they're designed to avoid that problem
@@learnesrajdilrubaonline1088 Nobody that I know off also whenever I play the dilruba the sound produced sounds weak and scratchy, could it be because of the rosin?
@@zorawarsingh9326 if you have instagram, send me a message on there and send me a pic of your Dilruba and the bridge. As to the question on your bow, yeah you could try to make sure it has enough Rosin. and you could try putting a little more weight to the bow against the string. You can bow a little harder that may help also double check to make sure your not bowing with extreme angles. Check out my Bowing Video Lesson #2 if you havent seen it yet
Sir, I am 55 now, a doctor by profession. I want to learn playing Dilruba. Can you please suggest where I can purchase it from ? And I shall be grateful to you sir, if you agree to accept me as your obedient student.
I recommend getting witter fine tune pegs
I did what you said, and broke three strings so far.... thanks...
Either you are pulling too hard and or you have low quality strings.

You can always hold the bow overhand as it'll relieve alot of tension in your right hand

If you replace all the friction pegs for the Sympathetic Strings with mechanical ones it'll hold tune better.

Which scale generally should we tune the instrument
You can tune to the tonic of C-E depending on the instrument and its capacity. as far as the frets keep it like mine as you see in the video.
Thanks,where do you live sir?
I live in Saigon, Vietnam
can’t hear background sound ..
I hear the drone in the background and havent gotten any complaints before. Try using headphones when you listen
Is this a violin bow???
This is a Cello Bow
What should I do if my bridge has ripped through the leather?
Do you know someone that can replace the leather for you?
