In Oct I purchased 900 pounds of Golden Bosc pears for $200 from a nearby farm. I juiced about 1/2 of them to get roughly 35 gallons. I split that up into eight five-gallon Corney kegs. Have of those used Mangrove Jack's M02 yeast and the other half used M12. SG was 1.060. Fermented for a bit over 4 weeks with all basically hitting 1.010. After transferring to secondary kegs, I added 2g blanc tannin and will let that sit until the day before Christmas (minimally). Each pair of four experiments are subtly different. No rush on where I will be going from that point. I wish I had considered one of the pairs of batches having used honey. The problem is that the only honey I have on hand is a westcoast Buckwheat would have been wrong for using with pears.
I’ve done beers cider and meads, etc. I did one braggot about four months ago. If you’re using hops, I would recommend not using Columbus because that one gave the grapefruit flavor. I also did 2/3 beer to 1/3 honey so it wouldn’t end too dry for my taste. Good luck and have fun Trent. 😁🍺🥃
@@ScullyBrewing I tried these relatively young in our taste test we filmed but that was over a month ago and now they are tasting much smoother and mellow. I’m def gonna keep some to age
@TheBruSho I just finished making a gallon of turbo cider. I wanted a mulled wine flavour so added 5 mulled wine spice tea bags. That should pack a punch!
Wait, i Just realized something. Last time you did a "Mead" you used honey alternatives due to following a strict vegan diet. Well I'm glad that we may get some more mead content now if thats changed.
I’ve got to say I’m a bit disappointed. You resisted making mead before because of the vegan aspect, and now when you go to actually make mead, rather than working with any of the mead people you’ve collaborated with before, you choose to work with someone that has promoted dangerous practices and vastly overcharges for problematic recipes and mediocre kits. I’m sure I’ll get some hate for this, but I honestly just expected better.

4:40 oh yeahhhhh theres the HONEY shot!
I made a cyser before, but with the added step of carbonating it.
Took it to the next level, I promise.
Looks fun! I have still yet to even taste a mead or cyser…guess this is my hint to try one 😂
@@ElementaryBrewingCo do it!!
Bro, in Poland we also have plum or pear ciders. The former would do great for a winter recipe!

Thank you!
I just made one with some cinnamon and oak
Maybe i missed it, but how long did you wait before trying these? Do you expect much change as they age?
@@ScullyBrewing I tried these relatively young in our taste test we filmed but that was over a month ago and now they are tasting much smoother and mellow. I’m def gonna keep some to age
very good :)
Cool video (as usual!) Was it just 1 chai tea bag you added to each gallon?
Yup just one, might do 2 next time if I remake it

I honestly thought it was a City Steading Brews video when I saw the thumbnail. 😂

Same!! 😂
Damn don't think we have honey crisp apples in Australia.... what would be similar? Fuji?
@@MrPhoon78 I’d say Fuji is similar but not quite the same
