Thanks a lot for the tip about Apps Only mode. It's like having a custom launcher with a few quiet ads. I still prefer an official custom launcher, but this is a nice alternative, should they go away.

I think everyone is jumping too fast to leave Amazon firestick. I just got two amazon max. Work perfect. No problems down loading amything. I own at least 5 4k and Max units. All work great. Im pretty sure were fine for at least a couple more years.
I have faith in all the firestick sites.
They all ways figure a way around any issues. Im staying with Amazon.
Yea they see a video of Amazon removing stuff and get scared. I have the new updates on my firesticks and I still have ADB debugging. I have an android box and I love it for the storage that’s the only difference it’s superior over the firestick with

I'm doubting that you have the new system update and still have ADB functioning. What Fire OS # are you currently on?
TechDoctorUK's first video announcement of the issue came out on Sunday, Feb.18th.
I had an unopened '4K MAX, 1st Gen' that I hadn't setup yet for various reasons. I use a lot of apps and absolutely need External USB storage for those apps (otherwise the stick slows to a crawl, buffers, etc.). My preference is to PARTITION the USB with only 15-20% allotted for the app/'device storage', as you really don't need more than that on a 128 GB drive. This leaves me almost 100 GB available for file/video media storage should I need it in future.
I have no computer or laptop currently, so the only way to do the partitioning is to use the 'Remote ADB Shell' app ON THE FIRESTICK!
I knew if the new stick updated to 'OS 7.6.6.9', I would be screwed for getting my External Storage setup. I caught a break because it only updated to '7.6.6.8' initially! I quickly got all this stuff done two days ago and copied all my APK apps from my older stick onto it via 'X-plore' File Manager. Then quite a bit of work to get majority of them moved from Internal to the new External USB.
Well, while I'm doing all this, I check the new stick's 'update' status and sure enough the new one had downloaded and was waiting to install! It probably would have already, if I hadn't been keeping the stick 'occupied' with the above mentioned activity.
Well, YESTERDAY I got preoccupied on my phone only to look up at the TV to see that update was in the process of 'finishing.'
Even before it was done, I immediately tried opening my 'Remote ADB Shell' app and it was already broke! Obviously, my virtual 'Mouse Toggle' was broke (and I use it a LOT!) and now there would be no point in buying TDUK's cheap one-touch Cache Cleaning app (as I intended), as it depends on adb commands to function (as well as his 'App Killer' app). In fact, I found out that Amazon had already preemptively REMOVED THEM FROM THE APPSTORE!!
This leads me to assume Amazon has done this on purpose (and that it's not just an update 'bug', soon to be corrected ... as some people hoped)!
Still, possibly if enough complaints come in they will reconsider, but I highly doubt it! They have shown little consideration for their customers, particularly over the last few years.
So, if you tell me you are using 'OS 7.6.6.9' (or 'OS 8.1.0.3') and your ADB functions are still working ... I'm not buying it!
I wish it was true, because that would mean Amazon had backed off and fixed the coding (and this was definitely NOT true for me!).
Of course, I didn't get hit until 6 days AFTER many other people, so it's conceivable you might have got an update correction earlier than me (without ever realizing you had busted ADB functioning in the first place!).
Somehow, I find this highly unlikely!

Other streaming devices have come a long way N shield is a good alternative as well some of the box's you can get have e everything you need in speed quality ie 4k storage and you can have them set up as you want .The way amazon is going they will lose a big piece of the pie if it carry on with what it's trying to do. You won't be short of a replacement for the firestick.
personal choice I suppose but i dont think I would invest a load of money for a device which is 5 yrs old - N.Shield.
What about a custom launcher on Google TV?

Your videos have helped me a lot. I'm currently using a Fire Stick with Wolf Launcher. I'd LOVE to switch to Android or Google but, incredibly, neither has Tennis Channel, and I don't want to cast it. Onn wouldn't play content from an unformatted flash drive either. Don't know if Android will.
None is perfect. Format the flash drive. I have over 5,000 dad's I have put content on. If I don't Format it,you would not be able to watch any of them
@@victormarrotti2575 Thanks, but my point was that Fire Sticks and Roku TVs let you just view flash-drive content without formatting. It should be that simple with Onn. I don't want to erase all the content then put it back.
The Onn 4K Pro lets users view flash-drive content unformatted, and I found a way to sideload Tennis Channel manually. Apps Only mode is great.
Also your price for the Tivo Stream 4k is off. I'm seeing it on Amazon right now for $24 and change

I've already moved to the onn. Google 4K streaming box, brother. (I wasn't able to get it for the under $20 that you can in America, sir, as I live in the UK, and we don't have Walmarts here.)
I did, initially, experience 'problems' with my onn. box as it kept 'losing' my wired internet connection and the USB Flash Drive that I was using. On further investigation, however, I found that the power adapter that comes with the onn. box only pushes out 5V at 1 Amp. Replacing this with a 5V 2 Amps power adapter 'sorted' this for me. (I currently have 46 Apps added to my USB Flash Drive ... until I see something more that I'm interested in. 😉
Gonna use my cube and 4k max until I break their balls and then go for the real deal,bye bye Amazon and prime and music😂😂

On the firestick you have a sleep mode . How do you turn off the android onn. Does it have a sleep to.
Yes, sort of. There's two things: Energy saver, that turns the display off after a set time, or Screensaver mode.
I have android TV and it is better than Google TV. You can choose the content you want and how you want it. It's supposed to be a universal thing like on mobile phones and you have to decide for yourself whether you want apps or something else. I like that the TV is something like a big phone
