- Too big...too heavy...too slow?
DAMO bought an Africa Twin Adventure Sports. Part camera mule, part project bike, and part dream purchase that goes back a long way. But did he make the right call?

"i just want one of those"
Perfectly said mate, lot of emotion involved in choosing bikes
No better reason!!
never stop, I'm 70 and just got back to the UK from the Sahara in Morocco.. Fantastic
Just an amazing video... I'm a rider and found this channel researching ADV bikes. This was so beautifully filmed, edited, and written... I actually found myself getting emotional at the end of it when you described what I bike can do for you and where it can take you. I don't have friends that ride and my wife doesn't get it, so it's wonderful to hear and see someone so eloquently deliver the message... Keep up the good work, your channel should grow profoundly. Cheers from San Diego, CA.
Very professional and yet genuine and moving, thank you for your work filming it, you’ve surely managed to convey what motorriding is all about
You motivated me to also buy an Africa Twin. An older 2017 DCT model, though. Absolutely smitten and love it. Does everything my DR650 could do. Mine is named Toto. Good name for an Africa Twin with a rider from Africa (Southern Africa). Love your videos.
You’ve captured so much of what I’ve felt astride my AT but failed to put into words, let alone pictures.
Thank you for taking ADV films to another level.
So happy you enjoyed it! Great to see some AT love. It tends to get a bit forgoten I think.
Great video. Thanks for taking us along. Cheers from Seattle
Beautiful cinematography. Makes me want to emigrate.
Absolutely love the fact that you bought it because it made you feel a certain way! I lost a deposit on a bike I ordered because when I was my bike in the show room I couldn’t walk away
I love a content provider that doesn't take himself to seriously yet gets some good points across. Spot on 👌. Just bought myself a Tuareg 660 can't wait for my own adventures to begin
The 660 is a great bike mate. Have fun with it!
@@advlife thanks mate i definitely will.. in fact fun is the one word I'd use to describe the bike. Keep up the good content bud you should have 10x the subs you got 😎
Just stumbled across this video, outstanding scenery and video production
i REALLY enjoyed watching your videos on your TH-cam Channel, Even I do love Japanese bikes since childhood, I don't know why but I really loved Japanese Bikes. God Blesses you always and enjoy your safe ride...
Always so jealous of the sheer amount of trails and off road you guys have access to. Here in the UK there’s very little, and what there is is constantly being removed from use.
Damo, you have excelled once again, setting a standard for humour, humility and a thoughtful review. The cinematography and production are excellent, whilst your narrative is outstanding. Really looking forward to more videos of your journey with Murray.
Thanks mate!
Thanks for sharing your adventure! Great filming and editing.
My ATAS is parked for the winter here in Norway now - good to see fresh videos from the southern hemisphere during this season, while longing for spring to come.
I'll keep riding while yours is in hybernation!
I grew up loving Honda Motogp bikes, so in February I got a CBR650R. At the beginning of this month (8th of July) I test rode a 2024 Africa Twin with manual transmission and electronic suspension. On the 25th of July I was leaving the dealership on one having sold the CBR. There is just something about the AT that made me feel at home on it. Absolutely great bike
Right on ehhh! I have the same bike 2020 tri-color version. 21000 km and still smiling. Honda reliable, and with es suspension, able to transition on the fly. Canadian Rockies is my home turf, with plenty of adventure throughout BC. There are more capable single track warriors out there, but for multi-week camping throughout mountains, highways, cities, and ocean road ways, I'll take the AT every day. Like you, I grew up a Honda Patriot, and living my dream. Cheers bud, from Canucksville 🇨🇦 :-)
You lucky bastard... i see your video and think "a dream for every Biker"
Greetings from an Africa Twin AS Rider from Germany ✌
The "Todd Carney cocktail", brilliant, along with the rest of the video. Murray suits you and the fact that you know how to ride it is a bonus.
Never accept a random drink from Todd 😂😂
Outstanding video production. Really great work. I had never considered ADV bikes when I was younger, but understand their appeal now.
That’s the problem with those big bikes, they are not made for the difficult terrain. Anyhoo great show😊
Thanks for a fantastic video! I have not had curry since I travelled in India 1984!☺
Great video brother! A good overview and reasoning about the bike, a nice road trip, and excellent videography and editing.
after 6 years and having 5 Triumph im going back to my Honda after this video. i wasn't just sure is this a bike for every day in traffic but you right ,who cares buy the bike when you look at it every day it give you smile .good rereview mate
I'm so happy to own an AFRICA TWIN 1100 ADV SPORTS DCT EL SUSPENSION in black matt.
I'm in love with that bike-the GOAT bike!!!!
Excellent content and well put together. I think we take ourselves way too seriously sometimes when it come to bike choice, so love your outlook.
I’ve recently transitions to a 2020 ATAS DCT Yes it’s too heavy for my 69yr old body but I don’t care. I love it.
I love at Cooranbong so familiar with your ride
Ace video and cinematography! Your Culinary guidance and wisdom is set to stir many Emotion and is somewhat inspired! 😂
The amount of editing and time required in creating this video should also be recognised and applauded! 👍🏼👌🏼😎
Thank you mate. Always happy to handle any cooking questions too 👍🏻
Winner winner chicken dinner. That was epic mate - well done. Test rode a 21 standard/manual the other day - loved it. There will be a 23 AT AS manual gearbox in my near future, just got to sell 2 other bikes to make it happen. Love the “loin” skit haha. Cheers from NZ.
Awesome video. Thanks for posting. Ive had a 2016 Africa Twin since the month it was released and I’m getting ready to upgrade to a 2023 your video answered a lot of questions for me not to mention right out entertaining. Love the blooper reel at the end.
😂
Thanks for stopping by mate. Your content looks great too - just subscribed :)
I was choosing between T7 and AT and my heart went with AT. No regrets, awesome bike!
Great video! And as you mentioned, it is not about the best motorbike according to any review. It is about the motorbike you want to own and ride. This is a very personal and emotional topic. I ended up with a 2019 AT with DCT and I absolutely love it. Keep riding!
Michael
Spot on mate. It is personal and there are no wrong choices if you're happy with what you have.
You mentioned the best reason to get an Afrika Twin; it was the bike YOU wanted, regardless of pros and cons. Glad you love it -many do.
Spot on, the almighty brain battle between an 890R, Tuareg and T7 for offroad agility, yet here we are, a 16 DCT, 17DCT and now the 1100 as the RouteBike. It's not a BMW on the road, nor a Kato in the bush, it just sits square in the middle.
Great way to put it mate. You'd know them pretty well by now!
@@advlife nudging 140,000kms of AT Life :)
I really liked your riding skills and the entire ride centric video editing! Thanks for the amazing video.
Loving your vids, Damo 👍 Great quality and always a solid laugh.
Damo, love your story telling and videography! Beautifully done and narrated! Subscribed for more! Loved the bloopers!! 😂
4 minutes in and you absolutely nailed it. The outtakes at the end cracked me up.
Wow, deep, tears, amazing, inspiring to ride the planet, I own the 2023 ATAS at 7400kms and I love it...
I love my 2016 AT with no bells or whistles and you've nicely captured what it means to have a slightly unhealthy relationship with your bike but I'm equally unapologetic about it. Nice vid 👍
I love the roads around RWD, and the Waterfall way!! I’ve never ridden them but drove them may times. Great to see you ripping them up!
I cannot believe new the Honda Transalp runs the horrible and cheap looking headlight off the CB500X, and I own the CB500X! The dual headlight set up and running lights on the AT, and especially on the black model, is one of the best looking and toughest fronts in motorcycles,
awesome video Damo, love it! Thanks!
The Transalp isn't exactly what a lot of us were hopinbg. But in just under a month I'm going to test one like nobody else has dared so we'll see what it's got.
@@advlife oooooooo noice! Looking forward to it!
Great video. Enjoyed every bit of it. Just checked Adventure 890 and Africa Twin. As you said - I kind of felt that 890 is something I need… but just by checking out - Africa feel much more like something I want.
Enjoy the rides!
Damo, best video yet on the Africa Twin! My sentiments exactly on the ATAS too, she's something I've wanted, so I got one. For me, she's the perfect bike for the "not so perfect" rider! I'm pretty green to all this but she inspires confidence and gives me that freedom I've desired since leaving the aviation industry.
Those locations your riding in, very close to my backyard, it's just heaven out that way! Some of those gravel roads are very familiar!
Great cooking tips, had me in stitches!!
Cheers mate! You're definitely using yours the way it should be - might catch you in our backyard sometime in 2023.
@@advlife Most certainly will! Have a great Chrissy and will see you out there!
Excellent video. I really hope you keep it up. Your video was simply great to watch.
thanks by share your experience...It was amazing.
It's a long time dream of me. The Africa Twin is unique ❤️ you drive in a wonderful Area! Best wishes from Berlin /Germany!
loved how you have cookies on your side . For good mood boost.
It’s grate cinematography…! Nice to watch and had 🤩
Thank you!
2:28 Very beautiful image, it brings together man, machine and nature in the background. Honda should put this picture everywhere.
You're an excellent videographer. Really enjoyed going along on the journey, albeit on my screen 😀.
Thank you very much! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch.
So, I cried. Keep making these, please, my soul requires it. 🙏 ... The ST765R I bought is amazing, but it's the wrong bike; the Honda ATAS, shown here, may just be the right bike. Honda should ask for your film to make ads. I'd buy own just because of this.
I just happen to find this Gem of a Small Channel. No Joke You Keep up the work and make more content like this you will be at 1 Million Subs in no time. Seriously great quality of Work. Have fun Rude safe.
When i started watch your video, i thought: "Hmm...Africa?! ok, look a coupl of minets, rewind ..." But in the and i watched all video this interest! Thank you for this great piece of you wonderful jurney! Great man, great bike, great life! ... good luck from Ukraine! ;)
A very adventure ride, this video makes anyone to pick up a bike and start riding. Amazing ride and video
As a kid I built a Rothmans Dakar Honda bike, Tamiya model , I now own a 2016 Africa and I still walk in the garage to look at it and smile that I own one. I would still love a early 90's 750 Africa.
Thanks for the video and also you may have swayed me to the Karoo 4's
I’d love a 90s model too!
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant...both the content and the bike! 🏍👍
Thanks mate - got to ride some great spots in this one!
This is the best looking bike hands down
Your bike has to speak to you every time you see it! That’s what my 2021 ATAS does ! It says get on and I’ll take you anywhere and bring you home again!
Great editing, filming and story line. All up excellent.
Thank you so much 😊
@@advlife love the part about getting what you want as opposed to the keyboard warriors that yell about DRs all day long and how anything else is too heavy. Being of larger frame and being able to handle a larger bike is part of the fun.
And for those times that you gets stuck, I keep 2 15m dyneema ropes onboard to use as a hub winch. Never had to use them yet but Im always solo.
What film gear did you shoot this with?
Good for you! We should follow our hearts and buy the bikes we want, not what others tell us we should buy. And I bet you have zero regrets with your purchase. If you had purchased something else you would’ve always regretted not buying the Africa twin.
I've heavily ripped on mine on and off-road or 8000 miles now, and have zero regrets other than being 5'8 doing donuts in the mud. As someone my height, it gets tough after a few hours. My biggest negative is show almost immediately around the 3 minute mark. The mud blows right up the back and all over the side of both me and the bike. As someone with a Peral white, I'd love a bit of extra flare out there to protect me and the bike a bit more, but also hasn't stopped me from having an absolute blast of road.
@ 16:50 that's why I always bring two ratchets straps that are about 10 feet a piece. Use them like a winch for either my bike or for clearly paths.
You seem like the kind of guy I’m looking forward to meet off the road. 🤙🏻 amazing video, awesome bike, keep it up!
Cheers legend! 👍🏻
I really enjoy this video, the drone footage is exceptionally remarkable, well done sir. Hello from Alberta, Canada
The Power Of Dreams From The Top Of The World ❤
First of all congratulations for the new Africa Twin and how well you made the video.
The reason n°2 you told was exactly what I tough when I bought my ATAS 2018 DCT.
Every ride they put a smile on us.
New subscriber here.
If it makes you smile - it's the right bike.
bikes are dream machines you own them not for monetary value but for the shared pleasure of therapy for the stress you feel as if you flying through time and space
I found this video, the narration, the scenery, everything about it, so calming, relaxing, like a mental cleansing ritual of sorts. Maybe its the purity of the land of Australia, maybe the narrator is a realised soul, I dont know, but it all materialized together beautifully. Many thanks to the whole team and best of luck for your future. Now I wish I had friends like this - people of calm spirit with a yearning for adventure and exploration.
Hello, I’m writing to you from Italy and only yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing your video. I wanted to give you feedback, in particular, regarding the introductory part, that is the first 5 minutes, when you talk about the reasons why you have always wanted a Honda and, more specifically, an Africa Twin. It’s something you explain very well, something you explain so well that I was even moved because while I was watching the video and listening to your words, I felt a deep empathy with you and your words; to my wife, who was next to me, I said: he’s saying things that I understand very well, things that I can understand and feel very well, it almost seems like he has read my mind and scrutinized my heart. You used exactly the words I wanted to hear. Thank you
Thank you so much 😊
Great filming and perfect narration. Love it! Now if only I could find an Africa Twin in stock where I live.
I've heard a few people say the same thing. It can be super frustrating!
Gorgeous video, this is what realizing an ADV dream looks like
Brilliant video Damo. Loved the outtakes at the end as well. Great production and content. Awesome….
Much appreciated!
Hello, what a nice video. And what a nice scenery where you riding. whe do not have such a nice roads over here in Holland. I have a Africa twin off 2017 and for me its a perfect bike. Thank you for sharing.
Is it legal to ride offroad most places in Holland or are there strict rules like in Austria?
Mind-blowing visuals, music and narration 👍🏼
Thank you so much!
I have an 2020 ATAS and I love it for many of the same reasons that you do, I also love the reliability! I get off into the mountains in western Canada whenever I can. It's amazing to get off the beaten path and challenge myself and my machine to get to places that most people never see. It is quite literally two wheeled therapy for me and is so good for my soul. Thanks for sharing and never stop riding!!
Having ridden in Canada only once, I’m sooo keen to get back there!
Im on my second AT now, just stumbled onto your channel its great cheers 🍻 👍
I thought the video was great until I saw the bloopers. The video is now classed as "AWESOME!"!!! Great job mate 🙂
Same here mate about pictures of Dakar bikes! I am riding 1290 SA now!!! Great video!
Amazing drone videos, quality of entire film is terrific! Well done! Subscribed, looking forward for new videos!
My V Strom makes me feel exactly the same way. Including saying g'day to it when venturing into the garage.
Mate, this is such a beautiful video. What an amazing place to live. Jealous? A little. I’m near the Alps with my 2018 ATAS but the attitude to bikes on trails is a little strict unfortunately. Have to head towards the mountains to avoid the crowds. Glad to have discovered your clips!
I just came across your channel today, subscribed. Excellent quality photography, sound and story telling. How you have only 7k subscribers I don't know. I have UK channels with more who can't match your quality, though they are not ADV focused. Hope it grows. Thanks for the in depth reviews and humour.
Thank you mate - really appreciate that 👍🏻
Beautiful cinematography, mate! Loved this 🙌
I have a 2022 adventure sport es dct. I have been riding over 50 years. I have owned many, many different bikes. Standards, liter sport bikes, Harley touring bikes and still own a Harley Electra glide ultra classic. The African twin is the best bike I have ever owned. The Harley never gets ridden anymore. Ever.
Damn, you are lucky to have such a beautiful place to ride and enjoy nature, on a absolutely top notch bike
Thanks for sharing this. Amazing quality of the production. My ATAS is currently resting, waiting for king winter to depart Norway :)
Keep it up, Damo! Looking forward to seeing your adventures on Muzz. Hopefully will see ya again some day if they ever let me back over the ditch for a bike launch.
We need to come over your way and ride some of those truly amazing landscapes!
@@advlife ever since the T7 launch I’ve been dreaming of the same in your neck of the woods! Grass is always greener on the other side I guess.
Man, THANK YOU for doing this video! Instantly subscribed!
All of the reasons you gave for choosing the Africa Twin, were mostly the same for me. I plan on buying mine late this year, or early 2024.
Trail riding is how I started riding motorcycles, when I was a little kid, all the way through my teenage years. At 12 years old, I got my first "real" motorcycle; a 1979 Honda XL 185. A 4 stroke with a lot of torque down low in the revs.
The Africa Twin reminds me of my XL 185. You're right about the internet "experts" spitting on anything larger than the Yamaha Tenere 700. This had me second guessing my Africa Twin choice. It's been since my childhood, that I've ridden trails and off road, so I thought maybe my thinking was wrong, here.
I've ridden almost exclusively on road since my teens, but I'm no stranger to big bikes, as my current bike is a 2021 ZX-14R. I'm not afraid of the weight; in fact, it provides stability in situations that smaller bikes would be sketchy in.
The type of riding you did in this video is exactly what I plan on getting back to. I don't plan on any crazy single-track or extremely technical riding. To quote 'Roger Mutaugh' from Lethal Weapon, "I'm too old for that $hit".
I just want some fun, relaxing mind-freeing trail riding, on a bike that has all the bells and whistles, capability and reliability to get me there and back again with no headaches. The Africa Twin is still the best choice for this and far more than I want to do.
I have the same😄👍Greetings from Poland!
Great video....very well filmed and edited. I'm looking to buy an adventure bike.... I've been riding a Harley Street Glide for the past 10yrs and it's getting a little heavy for me now ( I'm 73yrs old and had a lung transplant last August ) Been considering a Honda or a Triumph 900
Oh man, I'm in stitches, that was beautiful, funny, serious, and a lesson and a half to follow with you. You have the same humour as I do, seriously. Commiserations, seeing as everyone else is a grumpy bum, whisky throttle most of the time.
What I have learned, is why I wanted an AT in the first place, and it's on that, that I now choose it over the short list. Thanks for clearing the air.
Thanks mate!
Wow man you are lucky to live near all that.
Amigo!! Excelente video! I have the same AT AS in red white and blue. Greetings and respect to all from Durango Mexico 🇲🇽
Bloody brilliant! came here for the adventure left thoroughly entertained 😂 Thanks my man enjoy the festive cheer
Cheers mate! Hope you have a great festive season too!
Great bike and a fantastic video so well put together. Your time and effort put into this is appreciated👌
What a beautiful video!
Thank you!
Fantasic Video mate, I've just swapped my Street Glide for a 1250 GS and loving the change. Now time to learn some offroad skills
Brilliant! Great choice of bike too. Have a look at the BMW Skills days - Boothy and Urk run a very good program that will get you punting in the dirt in no time. Hope to see you out there!
@@advlife I'll check it out. Thank you
As a person who is 160cm tall. I went with the 2020 ATAS because it's actually the shortest seat height (with the lowered seat option!) Shortest adventure bike on the market
Ktm 790/890s 83 cm seat height
@@g.c.5571 yeah ... Ktm Still taller than .5cm. And maybe I'm biased to team red ... My seat height at 82.55cm. I still have to shave down if I were to do any river crossings this year ..
@@sierra659 don't waste my time responding to you then.
My hight is 5.6 feet (170cm) can i ride ATAS plzz reply 😊
Thanks good to know👍 5'8 30" inseem here. Will be looking for a Africa Twin soon👌
Well done! Just subscribed! I bought a 2016 DCT in 2016 when they first came out. Flew to the dealership 1,400 miles away and rode it back. I had switched the seat to the lower profile at the dealership because I’m vertically challenged at 5’6” with 29” inseam. Not the smartest thing I’ve ever done. Lol
Ride safe and looking forward to your next adventure. Ride safe…🙏🏻🏍🙏🏻😎😁
First time on this channel. Excellent work and presentation. I enjoyed riding along and intend to return.
Awesome, thank you!
Fantastic editing, crazy good commentary "Kamakazi Kanga" I pissed myself laughing, last weekend we had one that jumped as high as our helmets! Next Husq Rally in Tassie I'm sitting at your table Damo for the jokes - love your work (I can see the amount of time it must take to put something of this high quality out there, wow)
Cheers mate! Yep- if I get to Tassie we’ll grab a beer 🍻
Excellent script, music and photo work. It shows that you're a pro. Would love to come out to OZ and ride with you.
