There's a ton of Larps in the New England area. It's been awhile since I've played in any personally (been looking for a new one since my main game ended), so I don't have any specific recommendations.
Am a part of a family friendly larp, up in the Midwest. I've had some really great times and met some awesome people. Currently I created story elements and weekend long escape room-esk puzzles for the group to solve. Last event. I disguised a radio to look like a magical gnomish device. And when you turn the dial to a specific number, it started playing a magical recording to That pointed them to the part. Watching that group run around and try to find parts to the device and then trying to run around and solve it was the highlight for me. My next event is in roughly a month and I haven't even bigger puzzle planned for them. That will involve something that looks and feels like real magic.
I've been looking forward to hearing about your experience, thank you! It's made me want to get back into larping (it's been a few years 'cause covid and other reasons). I'll be trying out one called Awakening in Franklin MA in the fall!
I dont do LARP, but I think you would really enjoy the SCA. Its a more historical group based in many time periods, pretty much up to the invention of gunpowder. My gtoup is mostly composed of viking era, but their are samurai, medieval knights, everything. Look for your local chapter I garuntee you would have a blast. Especially in heavy combat.
This whole adventure was infinitely more compelling than basically every blockbuster/hollywood movie to come out in the past decade. Someone convert their LARP tales into a book, it is more than worthy of such an honor. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole telling.
I was one of the Vadurkin. We paid 70 silver to get the Crown from the Suzak Mar and gave it back to you. We backstabbed the Hadrians cause they only paid us 10 silver for the whole Warband literally 20 minutes after we had been approached by the Rivlans for an alliance. Maybe next time they won't hold their allies so cheaply.
Thanks for the heal during that horrific field battle where we were brutally outnumbered -- I remember the respect all the hadrians had for you and the others healing!
Thanks for this. I recently lost both my parents to cancer and am suffering from nihilism. Listening to your tale of intrigue and adventure filled that hole in me for a moment and gave me a little inspiration.

Hey guys. I've got a recipe for your bananas. Slit the peel the long side (on the inside curve) and put bits of chocolate in the slit. Then put the bananas in the embers of your camp fire for 15 minutes. Then you can eat chocolate banana with a spoon right out of its peel. Enjoy 😘
It’s awesome to hear your twos perspective! I was with the Hadrian’s myself and to hear your alls experience is great just to see the difference in between our factions.
I got to hear about LARP via people making fun of it and calling it cringe. And this yeah I signed up to do LARP myself. 1 for the Larpers, 0 for the haters.
Omg you guys were the banana guys! I was the joker across the fire pit. Lol! You were awesome thanks for laughing with me. First LARP was fantastic in part from you both. I still need to make you that Hadrian wife banana comic for you guys.
Does anyone else expect to see him make both a banana blade and banana bow before the next one? And arrows with tiny little banana arrow heads! Also you should convince the LARP runners to allow a new spell akin to Grease from D&D: Banana Peel: causes everyone to walk near it to slip and fall!
I really enjoyed this pair of videos! I’d like to see more conversations between the two of you; you have great chemistry together. I find myself wishing there was a LARP group in my area, and exploring the back catalogue for costume ideas for a D&D character I’d like to bring to life.
I was skeptical about doing larping, but I can say with confidence that I will be attending Reckoning next time it comes around and be amongst the ranks of the Hadrians.
this was amazing to listen too. I'm so happy that I stumbled upon here and now ive got to watch the first part. and then this one again. it was really fun to listen too you guys, thank you for making this video
Found you guys after trying to find anyone talking about Reckoning and ended up binging your channel! Definitely looking to go to Reckoning next year and join up with Rivlan!
I had your ranger cloak video recommended to me by TH-cam and after watching it I started watching your other videos and subscribed. I have enjoyed this 2 parter about your LARP experience and it has made me want to check out what might be local to me! Keep up the good work, both of you, and I look forward to more LARP stuff.
That was awesome! Not sure if I'll ever manage to go to a LARP, but LARPing vicariously through you is definitely the next best thing. Between the awesome making and this, you got yourselves another patron! Thanks for sharing!
In my system we refer to the depressive whiplash at the end of the event as 'post larp blues', as in 'the PLBs have hit in hard. And it's definitely true that people are different from their characters. I didn't 'meet' a lot of my faction until after the event was over, some after a year or so of play, because I never got the chance to say hello to them outside of Time In.
I've wanted to go to a larp for about a year now and this one sounds awesome plus I live in Indiana so it's not that far from me! So I will see you guys next time.
I definitely enjoy your maker content, but this larp two part has been my favorite content from you so far. Even though I’ve been a D&D geek for around four decades, I never would have seriously considered larping, but your description of this event has me considering looking for a larp in my area to go to!
Sounds fantastic! Your descriptions of the action and intrigue really make me want to do it! Can you try to make a small under cloak backpack? It would be good for rouge gear but be very stealthy itself. I want more Maddie in future videos! Both of your excitement is infectious! Keep leveling up You Two!
I've been waiting for thus next video what feels like ages! Update: a dnd friend of mine and I have began to make plans to attend the next event including following the Reckoning Facebook page and the website to dive into it. Also I'm excited to come up with garb 😀
Glad you enjoyed the Larp. This is something I really wish I could have tried before now, as thinking I got a bit too old to get into this, as shortly approaching 50.
Don't let that stop you! I think the oldest person in this larp was in their mid 50's and I know others who have been enjoying LARPS for a long time who are in their 60's. There is 100% a place for everyone of every age in these games! I do hope you give it a go!
I got to a Post-Apocalyptic LARP where there's a lot of running, screaming, and chaos, and have met a couple of really cool people 50+ years of age playing with us. Please don't think your age can stop you from a wonderful new experience!
I really love this sort of content, and don't mind the occasional break from crafting and DIY projects. And I'm not saying that JUST because we need more Hadrians. (We do, but I also love DIY crafting!) Fun aside: Well before lunch, Lord Edwin returns to camp with a priceless Golden Bowl, sacred to the Empire, and some magic sword of minimal interest. The Golden Bowl must be displayed proudly for all to see, so he rests it upon the water barrel in the middle of camp. Around mid-day, me and my best friend Gregori stroll into the camp to see our brothers-at-arms preparing to crush the Vadurkin. We give them what magical blessings and protective spells that we can, and wish them well. About an hour later they trickle back in ones and twos, claiming a hard-fought but narrow defeat against superior odds. While they were away, I move the Sacred Hadrian Artifact to a more fitting location, atop a metal torch post near His Lordship's Command Tent, and in its place on the water barrel I leave a tasteless brass chalice that I had lying around. For two hours Gregori the Hadrian Sage haggles with various folks that have come to buy, barter, or steal my tacky brass chalice, and I giggle to myself. Then in the afternoon I got beaten unconscious by the possessed body of my dear friend Radovan, Lord Edwin's personal guard. It was a day of ups and downs for Navarre the Sage, and a fairly typical day of LARPing for Craig the player.
This actually made me want to Larp. And I never thought I wanted to Larp. Apropos of nothing, If you're still taking requests to build, I would LOVE to see you create a backpacker guitar case.
I hope you do more storytelling of your larp adventures! This has all the qualities of a good friend spilling the best tea about the most drama fueled event that happened to them. 10/10 would listen again!
I really enjoyed this series of video. I think both of you on screen was great to so definitely would want more of that. And, yes more videos like this explaining your experiences doing things. Go to more LARPs and make more characters. Also, maybe do a video detailing your costumes and talk about what worked and what didn't work and what you would change about them for future events. Thanks for the content, keep having fun
As an introvert, can confirm rping a social character is DEFINITELY a way to get me out of my shell. (Granted all of my experience is with text-based rp on MMOs and such, but the concept is the same)
We got to hear the highlights. From outside it's people in costume swinging foam weapons. It can look a bit silly. LARP is really something that you have to do, not just watch. But I understand your sentiment and appreciate it.

We will for sure! We weren't allowed to take pictures during the LARP so most of the images we will show are being taken after. The thumbnail images are accurate so far tho!
@@SkillTree great, and Ash can add and refine her costume for the LARP. She only had a few days to prepare right ? May I suggest a field churgury kit, never know when Knits has to patch up her lil Ranger sidekick. 😆
If giving these adventure summaries allows you to write off larping as a business expense, I'm here for it 😂 but honestly, I really enjoyed hearing about your experience from both of your pov and it just makes me want to take part in a LARP myself even more. It's not big where I live, there are occasionally small (usually 1 day events) every now and then but nothing on the scale that I see from other countries, at least none that I'm aware of. I was meant to attend a long weekend LARP many years ago and after putting a ton of resources and effort into my gear the organisers just fell off the radar and it never happened.
What a delight! Lamentably, there doesn't seem to be any comparable LARPs within my range... but perhaps one day my travels will carry me to distant shores, where worthy adventures (and worthy adventurers...) aren't quite so scarce!
That was epic! Totally book-worthy tale! I would absolutely join the banana cult with you. When I was at a game jam a few years ago I was myself crowned the banana queen because I've brought a supply of bananas that nourished our team throughout the entire 48 hours lol
@@SkillTree Such a story, wow. Having two different perspectives really made it interesting. I wasn't expecting the inclusion of monstrous races, but was surprisingly pleased.
Prop up a 'chest of preserving' to bring along next time. Start working a new series about organizing the tent for one, the other, or both with updates as the LARP progresses? As a treat?
I don’t know if you read these comments since this video went out over a year ago, but as far as camping and setting up your tent so is organized there are a lot of things you can make on sight as long as the resources are available, like hang a shelf from your ridge line or tent poles it only requires stick and twine or bank line to do and very easy, same with cots, just bring burlap bags and put to poles through the bags and put them on two logs cut to width and put it across them like a stretcher on a stand. That way you don’t need to take that in your luggage. Lots more you can learn from bush craft videos
I like this sort of video as well. I enjoy hearing new stories from LARPs, even if they are from ones I will never get to go to. A long time ago I went to SOLAR fairly often. I'd say it is a bit more combat focused, but there is still tons of roleplay too. SOLAR is in Georgia, but I can't say if it is still running. Last time I was there the world had sorta ended, twice. I had been gone a long time so it was kinda hard to get my bearings, but I loved the vibe of: the quest to stop the end failed and now we live in a swamp world. There was a deathcult that worshiped the Crone (Standard death goddess of the Maiden, Mother, Crone type trio) And they just murdered people and turned them into zombies. Their chant still sticks with me today: Life leads to death leads to life. Anyway, hearing stories makes me want to get back into it. But I need to make a new costume because I was a smaller man back then haha.
In 1994, while stationed in Orlando, I had the opportunity to LARP Vampire the Masquerade. As it happened, I had gone to the Con that was hosting the LARP in my Fancy Boy Clothes. This was 1994, mind you, so I was wearing a dress shirt, tie, and double breasted suit, but the tie and suit had a subtle (for 1994) iridescent sheen, and the suit jacket had shoulder pads sown in. Over that, I wore an Australian duster, and I rounded it out with a black fedora with what I would best describe as having Pollock-esque paint splatters on it (white thread woven in) and a pair of fingerless weightlifting gloves. Mind you, this was not planned with the knowledge that there would be a VtM LARP! I was a 24 year old idiot kid who had watched too much Forever Knight! So, they made me a Toreador elder, and I missed most of the action because I was being expected to kind of sagely advise and involve myself in the consular intrigue. It was still a LOT of fun, but I apparently missed a pretty cinematic chase through the hotel lobby and a lounge...
I know I'm really late to comment on this video. Larp drop is a real thing, and I have found that if you find a small trinket or something that held meaning for your character to hold it and reflect on the game you had with them for a little while. Then you can store it for however long till you need it again for the next game. I have a necklace that belongs to my first ever larp character and every time I hold it or see it I am reminded of the fun and friends I had at the game. I'm currently looking for another game to go to to experience new games, but money is tight right now.
Sounds like a great event. I have wanted to get into Larping. I use to play D&D. I do post apocalypse airsoft larp events. But I'm making a shaman faun costume I want to larp with. I can't find a larp group in or close to the town I live in.
Funnily enough, I had a character called "Tyro" who eventually got called "Ash" because he set fire to things, anything, for any or no reason! He once ended an entire campaign because he set light to the enemy leader's tent, burning him to death!!
I think it would be really cool if you could write all of this LARP experience down in a novel format. Following different characters and tie the whole thing together. Just a thought.
Glow sticks to represent spells? Taht way there's a visual indicator of the spell currently active. Or More expensive, LED light with a timer set for the spell in question, this device would look like a cylinder with two rings, where turning the one selects the color code for whatever spells you have ready, using presets. The first layer is for the spell, the second is for the level of the spell. Then pressing the ends of the cylinder together will "cast" the spell, and then LED lights up with the spell color, and an auditory signal that mainly only the one wearing it can hear, that signals the time left on the spell. Then until the caster fulfills whatever the requirements to recharge the spell slot, that spell, is unavailable. IRL you bring it to a well designed kiosk that displays a list of spells relevant to your character, and using a NFC connection or USB - C to reprogram the slots in question, and if you have spell nullify, or anti magic, the one with whatever it is active, the cylinder will broadcast through Bluetooth at a particular range according to the spells parameters, and any cylinders within that range will go dark aside from the one who cast it. There would be a small screen that displays the name of the spell. This would also be a convenient object for regular TTRPG campaigns. There are probably other uses for it too, that would make it even more versatile. Some could be in the form of a spell scroll case, others could be attached to a staff, or possibly a crown... The ideas are techy, but sounds like a fun way to increase immersion overall. Maybe even include a GPS chip so people can find the cylinder or help find someone who got lost.
It's dangerously hot where I am as well as I write this. But I'd do "tavern nights" like mini roleplay events at someone's house or a reserved area at a restaurant. Full soft kit no combat but lots of banter and oath making and such. The Game of Thrones isn't just played on the battlefield. :)
Next time you roast a banana add chocolate to the top of it pull one part of the peel away add the chocolate to the open banana an eat it after it’s really good if you like chocolate

great story, fun times. thanks for sharing. maybe someday i will join.
Are y'all going to show the costumes you wore ?
We will for sure! We weren't allowed to take pictures during the LARP so most of the images we will show are being taken after. The thumbnail images are accurate so far tho!
@@SkillTree great, and Ash can add and refine her costume for the LARP. She only had a few days to prepare right ? May I suggest a field churgury kit, never know when Knits has to patch up her lil Ranger sidekick. 😆
This was definitely some amazing content! Thank you, both! Keep up the great work!!
I enjoyed your recap immensely!
Hey, I see a Pennsic video. Can't wait to hear your take on it.
So when is the collab vid with Living Anachronism coming?
Soooon! He is traveling currently but when done we are hoping to work something out.😁
@@SkillTree Hope there will be a vid with him on your channel and a vid with you on his channel.
I know this is late but I loved these videos and this really has really gotten me interested in participating in a LARP.
I've been checking back almost every day for this episode though I knew you only post once a week
Love this video and makes me want to LARP for the next Reckoning. Great job!
That was epic! Totally book-worthy tale!
I would absolutely join the banana cult with you. When I was at a game jam a few years ago I was myself crowned the banana queen because I've brought a supply of bananas that nourished our team throughout the entire 48 hours lol
I’ve been waiting for this! Woot
Let us know what you thought!
@@SkillTree Such a story, wow. Having two different perspectives really made it interesting. I wasn't expecting the inclusion of monstrous races, but was surprisingly pleased.
I loved this story, I would listen to more things like this
Moar LARP stuff plox!
I'd love to see you go through your full ranger getup.
I'd like to see your try at making a Viking fur Cloak. Like a full length cloak. Like cheaply lol
Finally working my way through this video.
So....I was the guy with the human-sized sword...I'm really sorry about your bow.
Prop up a 'chest of preserving' to bring along next time. Start working a new series about organizing the tent for one, the other, or both with updates as the LARP progresses? As a treat?
You know, we were thinking a some videos along those lines would force us to be a little more organized the next time we go LARPing 😂
I like your talking episodes. I woldn't mind at all if you make more of them.
Been thinking about larping for a few years, I may show up at the next reckoning.
But I need to make a new costume because I was a smaller man back then haha.
great little series for reckoning it really makes me want to go.
The more this story goes on the more I like the Hadrians
We did our best! With like... twelve people 😄
This sounds so awesome a lot of it sounds like something out of a action/fantasy movie or book
Please talk more of larp!!! If you ever have the chance, please try refuge larp too!!
Any chance that if you co to the next chapter of this Larp they would have drones to record it.?
Damn! Now I need to find one in California or convince my friends to join.
Yeeeees, join us!!! Become the LARPer you were destined to be!
That last night sounds so damn wholesome and funny.
if you glue some fuex fur in your scabbard it will help for a smoother draw but you may need to add a catch to stop it acidently faling out
It's like a video game or movie I would love to do that
Funnily enough, I had a character called "Tyro" who eventually got called "Ash" because he set fire to things, anything, for any or no reason! He once ended an entire campaign because he set light to the enemy leader's tent, burning him to death!!
Love having Maddie in the videos
Absolutely interested and really want to try one!
I completely forgot there was a yoga ball involved in this video and was utterly confused as to why she kept bouncing when she talked..
I think it would be really cool if you could write all of this LARP experience down in a novel format. Following different characters and tie the whole thing together. Just a thought.
how big of an area did this cover ?
Glow sticks to represent spells?
Taht way there's a visual indicator of the spell currently active.
Or
More expensive, LED light with a timer set for the spell in question, this device would look like a cylinder with two rings, where turning the one selects the color code for whatever spells you have ready, using presets.
Wait, who did the wolf pelt video?
Larpshire! A friend of the channel. Check out the video here: th-cam.com/video/e90g0xh8p-E/w-d-xo.html
@@SkillTree thanks for link, heading over now, will say y'all sent me!
1:11:40 this explains when I finish a long backpacking trip.
I want more of these videos and like, just go ahead and do more LARPs and tell us about it lol
Let me live through you it's too hot here
It's dangerously hot where I am as well as I write this. But I'd do "tavern nights" like mini roleplay events at someone's house or a reserved area at a restaurant. Full soft kit no combat but lots of banter and oath making and such.
The Game of Thrones isn't just played on the battlefield. :)
Bananas were unexpectedly and repeatedly relevant to this larp
Next time you roast a banana add chocolate to the top of it pull one part of the peel away add the chocolate to the open banana an eat it after it’s really good if you like chocolate
... your sorcerer, I just might
Some video of the actual event would have helped make clear what you were experiencing.
I could make a movie surrounding your characters in this event
I guess since since I'm allergic to bananas I will never play a rivlan, ah, alas alas *dramatically poses*
I wanna know how you find these larps I'd love to see and interact with you guys in character I feel like woulf would enjoy you guys lol
watched them, one after each other, bit slow down under
We need a better way to differentiate Kit and Kit. Kit C. and Kit L.? Big Kit and Little Kit?
I'm *all* for calling Cl3ver Little Kit, you *are* the one with Big D energy after all...
@@Madimistred If Kit thought Stabs was a downgrade, just wait until we start calling him Little Kit.
@@LarpShire Even better... Little Stabs
I DISAGREE. I am not to be stabs. I will accept little kit as it can be like Little Jon. Which I suppose would make Big Kit Robin Hood
@@SkillTree She already has the distinctive hat for it!
